[00:00:02]Not for a day or a week, but potentially for months. What would you do? How would you bring it back? Well, this very scenario may have been faced by the people of Denmark about 5,000 years ago.

[00:00:14]And in order to bring the sun back, they did the one thing that they could think of. Make hundreds of tiny representations of the sun. Scientists have worked out that something big did happen in this region at this time. It was the fault of volcanoes. So, when a volcano erupts, it shoots things like sulfates into the atmosphere. This haze and lack of solar radiation causes everything to cool down.

[00:00:36]And it can have catastrophic consequences. So, the authors have theorized that the sunstones are a response to this. That maybe this volcanic winter hit the region. And in order to make it stop, they carved a bunch of these plaques and dumped them in a ditch.
