A food forest is a self-sustaining ecosystem that mimics natural woodland environments by creating multiple layers of fruits, herbs, and vegetables that enrich the soil and replenish themselves year after year, providing a sustainable solution to food insecurity by enabling communities to grow their own food using available land resources.

What is a Food Forest? | Blackenomics | Black HistoryAdded:
I'm standing here at an outreach garden that's sponsored by Mobile Street Methodist Church.
And I don't know whether you know it or not, but one in 10 people and that's a statistic for Georgia and particularly across the country, general people, you know, are suffering from food deficiency, don't get enough food. One in seven adults, you know, have a problem with [music] food. And then one in five children, you know, suffering from hunger and what have you.
>> [music] >> Then you know what Don don't mean? With all this land, you know, and all the opportunities, people can grow their own food.
You know, I mean, we got all this land, people got backyards, >> [music] >> they got vacant lots next to them, and you can grow your own food as this church is doing here in downtown Macon, and I'm sure that they are addressing the food desert, [music] you know, with this garden. And that is an organization called Show Me Cooperative >> [music] >> that assists churches, organizations, institutions, and schools in providing the knowledge that they need and the information that they need as it relates to what they can do to grow their own food. Maybe this is something that we can address because it saved your money. People having a problem, you know, buying groceries, people having a problem making ends meet, but these people, many of them got land that they can grow their own food, and they've got a resource where they can learn how, [music] you know, to grow their own food. There's a thing called a food forest. And what you can do on that land is you can have a food forest with trees and berries and fruits [music] and vegetables all in a certain area, then it will replicate itself year after year. So, I think that as it relates to economics and blackonomics and self-sufficiency, one thing that we need to think about, particularly with that percentage of people who are hungry, is look at what needs to be done to grow our own food. And that, you know that puts more money in our pocket it makes us healthier it makes us secure matter fact I got a neighbor and I was just amazed at all of [music] the things that she's doing and I'm going to show some of these products that she's growing in her backyard.
You know and her husband is thrilled to [music] death and then you can be too by contacting Show Me S H O M E Cooperative in Macon, Georgia and [music] become educated on what it takes to grow your own food. So my advice to you is >> [music] >> don't just stand there do something.
Let's get it fixed. Let's get hunger fixed in 2026.
