Adams moves beyond simple reactions to offer a surgical analysis of the moral ambiguity that makes *The Sopranos* a masterpiece. He brilliantly highlights how the show uses human vulnerability to make its most monstrous characters hauntingly relatable.

>> Yeah, Ralph. You can't be blaming other the other kid. I mean, though. Yeah. I don't know why they would ever want to be shooting with a damn arrow. But yikes. That's a rough situation, man.

>> It's my son.
>> The nights before he has to go to your house, he can't sleep.
>> Ronnie, don't.

>> It's crazy that this show just showcases what happens in the orbit outside of being in the mob.
>> Like how human things just happen.
>> HEY, [ __ ] IT OFF. THIS IS NOBODY.
>> WE WERE JUST FOOLING AROUND.
>> JUST FOOLING AROUND.

>> I love that the camera pushed in on that one. Went right to a nice little medium shot right here.
Conversation is getting intimate, personal.
>> You know how to do a good one. But when I'm ready, >> I understand.
Thank you.
>> Now see Ralph at >> Let's pray >> is vulnerable. We only would see it if he's like offended, but now he's truthfully hurt. It's like vulnerability in a different way.
>> Although to see him like that and Justin hooked up to those machines didn't interest AJ.
>> Yeah, because you just don't want that to happen to your kid.
>> No. Fooling around with blondie. Huh?
Of course.
Oh, look at a guilty look on it. Yo, the way he's always he's smacking around his son. He's just like ah, it's like, damn, boy.
Yeah, man. That's one of those things where you're just like, yeah, I got to I got to put both arms around my son. I have to hold him because like my goodness, it could just be like that.
Florida.
So high on Coke, I forgot to call him.
>> Godly, man. Yikes. You ain't got to tell me this, man. My fries are going to get cold.
Seeing Tony's reaction to all this is almost just as incredible to witness as Ralph breaking down. Both of these characters doing something that is like complete opposite of one another's nature.
>> Seeing that girl you used to date and uh Valentina.
>> Why would you tell him that? Why would you tell him that?
H I guess I mean at this point he's like man it >> maybe if I met a girl like Camela I my life could have taken a whole different trajectory.
>> Meanwhile Tonyy's like I did it. I'm still seeing other girls.
You're just not built like me. Okay, man.
>> Thanks for the flowers. They're beautiful.
Yep. Doesn't say anything to Paulie.
He's like, "Nah, man."
>> That gives him a pass.
>> I don't care if he's got a 100 kids in the ICU with arrows in their heads. He's a piece of [ __ ] You know it and I know it.
>> God damn. Did you see Wait, he's That is a crazy thing to say. He said, "I don't care if he got a hunch of his kids in the ICU with arrows in their head." That is crazy. She was in the hospital unit for an hour and a half with nervous bowel syndrome.
>> Whatever happened there? That uh that was [ __ ] up.
>> [ __ ] up.
>> This man wants to laugh so bad. He's like, "Man, not going to lie, but Rob did was kind of funny."
>> You lay your hand on him and you're going to answer to me. If you can quote the rules, you can [ __ ] obey him. You hear me?
>> He said, "Bro, if you want to step, you better you better get active. Better understand the consequences." Did you hear what I said?
>> Yes.
For all of you.
>> It's like It's like he blinks a little bit after he does that and it's like him shutting down. It's like him stop seeing Red.
>> Whoever did it.
It's been too long now. Want to go pay my respects.
>> It's crazy, man. Tony is surrounded by a bunch of straight up psychopaths. Low key, man. All of them have called bodies and Tony is still able to strike the fear of God in them.
>> Let me give you a hint. We pledge allegiance to the >> United States of America.
United States of America.
>> Who was the president of the United States?
>> George Bush.
>> And who was the president before George Bush?
>> John Kennedy.
Yo, this man is this man, Uncle June, is hilarious, bro. Damn. Just booty cheeks, man. What the hell?
>> But uh I can't find Ralph.
>> He sticks to himself nowadays.
>> There was a fire at the stables.
>> Oh no. Oh no.
>> She survived. But >> why did you tell me math only back from lunch?
>> I'm sorry. We did everything we could, but she had to be destroyed. She was too badly burned.
>> She had to be destroyed. What do you What do you mean? What do you mean she had to be destroyed? What are you talking about?
Can't find Ralph. Oh, he probably did that because he was sleeping with his girl.
Oh man, this is horrible.
Oh my god. Tony loved that thing, too.
>> And the hay was a natural accelerant.
They'll investigate, but it's a formality considering the value of the stock.
>> A that was actually really kind of Tony to do right there.
Goodness gracious, man. That's so sad.
No. Well, I'm happy Carmela was able to see her, but damn, that is heartbreaking.
>> Oh, look, T. I um >> He's not even looking at him. He's not even He's not even looking at Tony.
>> He wasn't even looking at him. Ralph, I don't want to believe you did that, man.
There's no way you did that. There's no way you still have enough anger in that vessel. In that exhausted vessel to do something as heinous as that.
>> At this point, the fire marshall says that it looks accidental.
>> What sick [ __ ] would do something like that on purpose, huh?
>> Ah, man. I don't know. I don't know, man. Ralph, you looking kind of sus. You looking sus. What's your hand? What's your hand? Huh? What's on your hand?
>> Toast.
>> Yeah, >> Tonyy's going to kill this man if he finds out that he he killed the horse.
>> [ __ ] ANIMAL. 100 GRAND A PIECE. MY KIDS IN THE [ __ ] HOSPITAL. I DON'T HEAR YOU COMPLAINING when I bring you a nice fat envelope.
>> Dude, they are acting their ass off right now. Damn, I love these two, bro.
>> It was a [ __ ] horse.
>> Better watch it, Ralph. You better watch it.
>> Eat beef and sausage by the [ __ ] Carlo.
>> Damn. Yep. Yep. He's going to kill him.
Yeah. He's Yeah. Someone's going to die here, bro.
>> YOU FAT [ __ ] DUDE, the [ __ ] scrambled eggs at him.
Whoa. Got the knife. OH MY GOD.
DAMN, THIS is brutal as hell. Oh my god, this is raw as hell right here.
Beautiful creature. What does she ever do to you, >> bro? You just blinded a man full of rage. Now he doesn't have to look at you while he's killing you, bro. I >> [ __ ] killed her.
Damn, he killed Ralph, bro. He killed Ralph with his bare hands, man.
Oh my god. Wow. That close up at the end there. Jeez, that was crazy. I can't believe that. I can't believe it.
Oh my god. That was insane, man.
Meanwhile, Chris is just over here getting high, man.
Again. Not even high in a good way. High in a very bad way, dude. He is not getting up.
He is not going to be able to get up.
>> Yeah, >> it's me.
>> Hold your head for [ __ ] >> golly, man. This man passed out.
Oh yeah, Christopher is high as hell. He's just like, "Yo, what the hell? What is happening?"
He said, "I found him like this, man.
Stop it, bro. Look at your face."
>> Should have happened a long time ago.
So, what do you want to do? Get rid of the body.
>> Christopher is like, "Bro, I cannot believe how you are doing this, man. I don't know how you're moving like this.
>> Look at you. Your nose is running, you [ __ ] junkie.
You promised me you wouldn't do that [ __ ] anymore."
>> I didn't. I did that. He said I did that. I did not.
Oh man, dude. The situations these people find themselves in is just incredible.
I think that's another word to describe The Sopranos is just like hilarious situations that are just so darkly rooted, man. It's insane.
>> Up. Up. Get the [ __ ] mop. Get them draining.
Damn, I cannot believe Ralph is dead. I can't believe it. He was a big dog there, too.
>> See, he's got some [ __ ] nobody's [ __ ] killing me.
>> He sprayed you with that rad that that rad spray. That freaking uh cockroach spray, man. Oh, they are. Okay. Wow.
>> They had no idea. Did you?
>> Of course I did. You're so high on SKG, you wouldn't know if he had your mother's muff on his head.
I >> actually had no idea as well. What the hell? Now he looks like his Matrix character.
He looks like his Matrix character. Oh my goodness. This man wanted the state this badly, huh, bro? Doing that while you're high on meth and other extremities is probably not ideal.
Tragic.
Oh my god, bro. The way that that replaced the bowling ball, dude. That is a visceral shot right there. Oh my god. just just a bowling ball bag and putting the remainings of Ralph's body parts within that. That is some grizzly right there, man. That might be the most grizzly we've seen so far.
I mean, this is literally like what?
Breaking Bad episode two, three.
Let him do a tray flip off a mountain.
That's crazy. Damn.
Bye-bye, Ralph. Sayan, man. Yikes.
So much for trying to reform yourself for God.
>> Let's go. Follow Mitch's farmers all the way up to [ __ ] slaughter spark.
This was a hell of an episode, man. Oh my god. Oh man, that is crazy.
>> [ __ ] wishes.
>> Can you hop this thing?
>> Christopher's forklift certified. He'll figure it out. No drugs needed.
Those little chuckles, man.
I'll tell you what, that was much better than shoveling. My goodness. Okay, Tony forklift certified. Gotcha, bro.
>> Friends of ours like it could happen to them without, you know, the protection of the boss.
>> He's like, "What if you kill me?
What if you just snap and kill me?
>> Take these out back later and burn them.
>> Oh man, I love how this shot looks, man.
Oh, should we linger in that room a little bit more?
>> Hi, Mr. Soprano.
>> Can I have some ice cream?
>> What?
>> That is hilarious. He does know.
>> Can I have some ice cream?
Yo, >> what are you doing? Come here. Come back here. Come in the house. You'll catch cold. Come on.
>> I was getting the paper.
>> Yo, low key, this man is the funniest dude in the show.
He is the funniest guy in the show, man.
I cannot I can't I just can't, man. This guy is incredible.
Wow. Yeah. Yeah. That was that was that was a crazy episode, everybody. And that wraps up episode 9. Man, golly, this was a crazy episode. Yeah, I can't wait to get to the other ones. This is this is a fundamentally just just altering episode here, man.
Ralph just got killed by Tony Soprano, man. In the same episode, he found out that his son was basically, you know, potentially could have been a vegetable.
You know that. I mean, it it's just wild. It's wild. Now, do we think that Ralph started the fire? Who knows, man?
I don't know. I don't have enough conclusive evidence. I don't. Was it leaning towards that? Yeah. Because I mean, him ranting and saying all that stuff about how the horse is just an animal, it's like, ah, man. It's like you like I get what you're saying, bro.
And it probably came from a place because he feels that his son, you know, uh, is in the hospital and that's like a lot more difficult to deal with, which, you know, obviously, yeah, 100%. But man, did he not read that situation correctly because my goodness, this man snapped. Tony Soprano has an a like a a stronger connection with animals than I think with humans, cuz he killed that man with his bare heads. That was a brutal fight. I love the choreography with that because it was just raw, man. It was just in the kitchen. Dude was making scrambled eggs and and that was it. That was it. I don't even think he was able even to finish cuz he had to use it as a weapon to fend off a wild Tony.
Yeah, that was a crazy episode. I feel like a lot happened in this episode, but I'm so captivated by that. And then the visceral nature of getting rid of the body, chopping up Ralph's body, and then taking out his bowling ball, putting his head in it, and then burying that while you're dumping the rest of the chopped up body in like a lake of some sort.
That's crazy, man. This show because of its like tandem with, you know, being within the mob and like also being a human being. I mean, this show does a great job. is probably the show that does this the best. But man, the duality, you know, the duality that we're able to just flip back and forth in is um is one that will always never come off as like brand new to me. It's always going to be just as striking and I think that's the intention and it's working. So, I'm very excited to jump into the next episode. Guys, if you're on the Patreon, I'll see you all there.
If not, I'll see you all around. So, no worries. Stay healthy, stay hydrated because we just getting started.
