In professional wrestling, match quality depends on pacing, storytelling, and character development, while career transitions like retirements create emotional moments that can overshadow match outcomes; successful wrestlers build momentum through consistent presentation and audience connection, making retirement announcements significant events that impact both the performer's legacy and the broader wrestling narrative.

Reacting to Brock Lesnar's "Retirement"Added:
Oberfami versus Brock Lesnar. Dare I say this is the match that people have been looking forward to the most out of the entire weekend, especially if you take into account the YouTube views. Obami Brock Lesnar segments have been getting the most views throughout the month uh by far as well. And of course, this is going to be um this was simolcast on ESPN or ESPN 2, I don't know which one it was, the cable version uh for the first hour, as was the ladder match, so the most people got to see this as well.
Tell us what you thought of the match and the aftermath.
>> Well, it definitely lived up to the hype we were hoping about, the anticipation.
Uh they took some spots from the Goldberg Lesnar match where Goldberg ran through especially the the shoulders and then he pushed him off like he you know he just like like kind of like you know blew off the the shoulder blocks. But man, Brock did a great job putting Oba Femi over. He made him look like a million bucks and definitely afterwards we you know we'll get to the aftermatch stuff. He put everything out there to basically pass the torch. And I know Dutch doesn't like that way of putting it, that metaphor, but basically he gave him the stamp of approval in this match.
Obami did not cave under the big lights of Wrestlemania. Obami definitely got himself over, went over with the match.
Spoiler everybody. And definitely the only thing I would say is like obviously this was going to be a greatest hit smash in a way. there wasn't going to be any rest holds or you know downtime.
They were just two big guys going at each other. And the fact that Obami kind of no sold but he sold a little bit the F5.
I the the old school guy me goes you got to sell that. But I understand if there's going to be the F5 kick out.
Brock can't believe an NXT face that it kind of gets that moment of disconnect and ruins the, you know, the the just the impactful spots they're doing right up to the finish. But man, this was definitely right up there with for what it was presented as and what it delivered was one of the best matches on Wrestlemania both nights.
>> I might have an unpopular opinion here.
I could have done done with it going longer. I wanted to see more. I suppose that's what you want is is, you know, leaving wanting more, but I could have done with a couple of extra minutes of that. But but what you just said for what this is and where Brock is going and where Oba is going after this match, you want to see more of Oba Femi and what happens. What you just said is exactly what we want on every single television show that we don't really get. Man, I need to know more about this. I need to see where this goes. The match could have went longer. I would love people to say all the time, I wish they gave me more instead of stop, stop, please stop. So when you said unpopular, you just really cemented that this match did exactly what it was supposed to.
>> Just on the entrance alone with Ober Fei. Uh I've heard live reports as well as just, you know, my own ears and eyes as well. And my god, this dude is popular. like I to be honest I don't know if it was just Dutch because Dutch is just like I don't get it I don't get it with Hob Fei but for me I was kind of teetering on will he be able to you know continue on this momentum you know from his debut January or wherever he was on the main roster to now because am I just it's probably me just being cynical and think WWE is going to ruin it somehow but no he's just built he has built and built and built on that popularity I mean people are dancing I think in the aisleways people were just screaming the heads off for this guy not just for the match but for the for his entrance as well and the postmatch everything like the the world's oyster this fell now >> absolutely and don't do anything WWE and Oba Femi don't do anything to screw this up please as a matter of fact every every attention to detail with his entrance presentation and everything is exactly the care they should put into almost everybody because you can elevate everybody body with a really good coordinated entrance that that that enhances their character. By the way, even shooting at like the Andre the Giant or the Great Collie, they shoot to make him look every bit as big as Andre as Hogan or any of those when they shoot with that camera angle, which they need to use sparingly, it really does matter for the whole uh presentation. The only thing I would say about Oba Femi in WWE, he doesn't need a title right now.
Please don't rocket ship him to a title and then we're stuck in this. He has a title, but he it's getting stale. We have to have him do it. Put him on the Goldberg route. As a matter of fact, I take that back somewhat. Do not put him on the Goldberg route where he has to wrestle Goldberg in order to to continue the undefeated streak. Can you kind of see how they can look at that and go, "Oh, Goldberg, we can have input over."
Please don't do that. We will get to uh Brock Lesnar in a second uh because that's weirdly the story of this match which uh we can talk about in a second.
One thing with Ober Fei and I know this is a tiny little thing and you tell me one way or the other. I'd get him out the biker shorts and have him either in trunks or long tights. I don't know why those little things bother me, but I don't think he suits the bikers style.
>> I'm not sure. I'm pretty indifferent to it. You pointed out it doesn't register a red flag on me when I see it. I'm not quite sure what you would put him in. I mean, Keith Lee the work trunk. So, I mean, he's in much better shape than Keith Lee. Actually, you know what's funny? I mentioned Keith Lee all the time with Obey. Brock Lesnar and Keith Lee at the Rumble had the same type of anticipation back then. I think it was a minimum stadium back then. I I don't know why they dropped the ball with Keith Lee, but man, they don't look like they're going to drop the ball with Obami. Obami is what Keith Lee should have been back then.
So, uh my notes were it looked like it was going to be a longer match than I thought it was and then maybe not.
They're just like these are like live notes I've written through. Ober Fei takes German suplexes and an F5 but shakes it off. Take the choke slam and fall from Grace the pop-up power bomb for the clean pin. And then uh Ober goes does a celebration leaves and Brock Lesnar is left in the ring. He starts taking off his gloves. He sits down in the middle of the ring and starts unlacing his boots and he is balling his eyes out. And we all know kind of established whether it's boxing or UFC or whatever it is. You take your gloves off, you take whatever else off that you may take off in the ring that kind of signifies one thing and that's retirement. commentators said way Baron Michael Cole we are going to wait for confirmation but it looks like Brock is done. Do you think Brock is done?
>> It would definitely seem that way. The one the one fake out we got was when uh Ter came out for that anniversary of Raw or Legends Raw or whatever it was and laid the hat and everything in the ring or that I had and everything was in the ring with the with the light on it. I I don't think Brock is going to come back.
He might do other things maybe or he just might be done. The guy's made a ton of money here and in the UFC and who knows what what he what he what can you do after this and and Paul reacted with a real emotion as well. They they embraced in the ring. It wasn't like Paul was like you're not done. You're not you know to continue possibly a babyface Brock Lesnar run. It it feels about as real and genuine without and actually sudden in a way. There was no like this is going to be my last match in any kind of shoot style interviews. I don't recall that. Do you?
>> No. Well, Brock Lesnar a month or so ago did say that he was back in WWE for a short time. So, a lot of people were inferring that 2026 would be his last year. I don't think anyone predicted that he was going to be done. I think a lot of people predicted because um it's SummerSlam in where's SummerSlam this year? Near his home like Minneapolis or wherever it is. Is it?
>> Oh, he actually lives in Saskatoon now.
It's not technically but that's where he's from in that area.
>> So anyway, I I don't know if people were predicting he was going to end his career there, Summerslam, or he was going to wrestle Gunther and then Gunther could continue the Legend Killer thing because I think a lot of people were clamoring for that match. So, um, it's kind more than anything else. I just think, man, what a shame. Cuz I still think Brock's got more, you know, Brock's got tons more to offer, but also, um, I' I'd think a lot of people want to see Gunther and Brock. That was going to be a Wrestlemania match a couple of years ago, I think, and then the Janelle Grant thing happened. He got essentially not so much suspended, but left home for a couple years. And that might be a dream match that we never see. Or we might see it because there's another wrinkle you can put into this that Gunther can start cutting promos to call Brock out again to say you're not done.
I need to retire you. There could be a twist to this where Gunther tries to kind of kind of draw him out. But I can see this. Brock probably in his mind wants this to be a retirement match because how protective has Brock been of everything as far as taking things from people? He's done business, but you know what I mean? He's done a lot more to keep himself elevated. This was a match outside of that Goldberg match from years ago where he completely just was very giving. He gave everything he could to the opponent. What do you do after that? the, you know, he's not, he's still basically formidable, you know, beast opponent, a monster, but with Hoba going over so clean and so quick, how does Gunther twist that around to try to bring Brock back out of retirement? That would be the only Gunther would be the one to have to do it. Brock can't change his mind.
>> Here's a here's a big question. Do you think Brock's retirement or or supposed retirement overshadowed the Ober win slightly?
>> No, I don't because I remember the match. Brock doing what he did wasn't like he also wasn't the last thing of the night that you left with the memory of that. Uh if anything, I mean, obviously you can think the first match overall could be forgotten by the main event, but no, I don't I don't think that's the case at all. And I don't think that Brock upstaged Oba's big win at WrestleMania. I think it was even. I think it was two different chapters within the match and that was it.
>> Aside from taking his gloves and boots off, hugging Paul Heyaymon and stuff, uh Brock Lesnar completely kind of dropped the facade, I guess, of being, you know, unapproachable and was slapping hands with the fans and stuff on the way back.
So, it seemed like a a moment of genuine appreciation. And also, because he was crying in the ring, I don't think he's a very good actor. And he seemed genuinely moved, I guess you would say.
>> Yeah. And then when he went back to the locker room, he he became unapproachable again.
Or he just left. That's what I love about him. Probably just had his, you know, probably when he's going back, grabbed his phone and gorilla play. Hey, is the plane fired fire fired up and ready to go? And he just left.
