The Untold Story of Rash Behari Bose, Indian National Army and Japan

This was 22-year-old Indian revolutionary Rash Behari Bose, whose story every Indian should know. Born in 1886 in Bengal, [music] Rash Behari Bose grew up under British rule. As he grew older, he became a part of the underground revolutionary movement and believed that [music] freedom would not come through words alone but through courage and sacrifice. And that's why in 1912, Rash Behari Bose [music] carried out a bomb attack on the British Viceroy, Lord Hardinge. Then in 1915, he planned to spark a revolt across the country but [music] British intelligence agencies got wind of it and arrests began all over India. Bose was no longer just a [music] revolutionary but had become one of the most wanted by the British Raj.

[00:00:43]He kept changing disguises, [music] moving from city to city and finally escaped from India to Japan. But even there, the danger [music] did not end.

[00:00:49]British diplomats were pressuring Japan to arrest him and send him back. Police, spies and everyone was searching for him and just when [music] everything seemed to be over, an unexpected door opened.

[00:00:58]Aizo Soma and Kokko Soma, who lived in Tokyo, [music] read about his story in a newspaper and decided that he was not a criminal but a soldier of freedom. Under a secret [music] plan during a gathering, Bose was taken out of police surveillance and quietly hidden inside the Nakamuraya bakery. Outside, the entire Tokyo police was searching for him and inside, an Indian revolutionary was living in silence. But he was not just hiding, he was living in his homeland. [music] While staying in the bakery, he would sometimes cook food. At that time, British curry was popular in Japan but Bose added an [music] Indian soul to it.

What was once a revolutionary's meal [music] has now become a cultural legacy. But the man behind this aroma never forgot his true purpose. Even while living in Tokyo during World War I, Bose connected with Asian leaders, gathered support for India's freedom and inspired Japanese youth who respectfully called him Sensei. Later during World War II, the same Rash Behari Bose became one of the key figures in laying the foundation of the Indian National Army.
