The state space these systems would inhabit makes 300 cubits look like a rounding error. You might say the system is not actually storing all those states simultaneously in physical locations.
But the paradox is that the computation demonstrably takes place. The correct answer emerges from a process that if classical would require examining an astronomical number of possibilities in parallel. The mathematics of quantum mechanics requires that the intermediate steps involve something operating across the entire superp position simultaneously. Where was it? You cannot store that many amplitudes in the atoms of our universe.

What if there is no collapse? What if when a quantum measurement occurs, every possible outcome actually happens, not sequentially, but simultaneously in parallel branches of a universal wave function that never collapses. The measuring device, the laboratory, the planet, all branch into separate versions, one for each possible outcome.
Each version is real, each unaware of the others. This is the many worlds interpretation. In 1957, it was dismissed. Everett left academic physics entirely deeply unhappy and never saw his idea rehabilitated. But David Deutsch took Everett seriously.
