FINALLY Finished the Retaining Wall..Next Step Concrete!!Added:
All righty, guys. Welcome back to another video. We're picking up in the same day as last video. We're back at the shop and we're going to work on the retaining wall for the rest of the day.
Man, that's nice.
Heat.
Heat.
All righty. I just got the rest of the block, the caps, the pins, and we're going to head down to the job.
Should not take us too long. We got on a really good roll uh yesterday or last video for you guys. So, I think we can kind of knock this out pretty darn quick. This is a lot of weight in the trailer. I'd guess uh 3500 a pallet for there. So, 7,000 and then we've got 9 400 lb stone. So, 3600. So, 106 pallets.
Yeah, we're pushing close to uh 11,000 lb back there.
>> All right, guys. cuz we're back down to the job going block.
A little windy, but the temperatures have climbed up so it feels pretty good out.
We're back at it.
I'm going to start laying these while those guys are uh getting everything unloaded.
Heat.
Heat.
Thank you.
Heat. Heat.
All right, guys. Let me try to find a Oh, there we go. Out of the wind. So, got the wall done. It looks fantastic.
Just have a few details left and then the caps. So, it's crazy windy. You guys would not be able to hear me if I was talking if I walked out by the wall.
Luke's just moving pallets around to bring them over. And we got a nice stepped seat wall. This will hold back that dirt there. And then the stairs are going to be coming down here anyway. So, they probably won't even really be using any of this. They might use that as kind of a seat wall. But this is uh this went really good now that we got the hang of it.
It's a little bit Yeah, right there.
All right, guys. We finally finished the wall. Both walls are completely 100% done except the back fill here and clean up. But I was going to do a couple different methods for this return, but I think this ended up being really, really clean. is uh just turning one of the caps down like that. It just kind of ties it all in. And when this is all stamped, it'll look beautiful.
Awesome. We're going to get picked up and we're going to get out of here for the day. We'll be back tomorrow to finish the back fill like that and then hopefully set the steps. But I'm not quite sure how that's going to go without a fancy jig. We're just going to have to do it the redneck way with a strap or something or lift it by hand. I have no idea. All right, guys. Let's get out of here for the day. It was uh I don't know what time we got here. I think 12's freshness.
>> 3 hours. That's not too bad. Yeah, it was probably a little more than that.
Probably 4 hours. But again, this is our first wall project. So, we're learning a ton. We're getting faster. We're getting straighter and better and more plum and everything. And that looks awesome. I can't wait till this is all done and I can get some drone shots. I was going to throw the drone up right now, but it's so windy it would probably just fling my drone. All righty, guys. Just pulled into the shop. Going to call this a wrap for the night. We will pick back up tomorrow. We're going to clean up today's pour. We're going to finish up the retaining wall project. We'll finish up the hardscape aspect of it. They're going to build the deck and then we'll come back and pour the stamped patio afterwards. So, we'll see you guys bright and early for some more awesome work.
Good morning, guys. We are back at it today. We are heading down to the wall to work on the steps. So, I don't know how long it'll take. I don't think it should be too bad once we get the hang of things. I'd say maybe a half day job.
And then if we get done with that at a decent time, we'll probably finish the day off just planting some trees. The guys with the patio and driveway extension from yesterday picking everything up. They're stripping forms and stuff like that. I'm going to head to 8 point to get some more stone. That way we uh definitely have enough for this.
Man, these dirt roads are just terrible right now. This truck's going to snap in half. Um what was I even saying?
Hold on. I'm heading to 8 point cuz I want to make sure that we have enough stone to finish these steps today. So we will get some 6A and get on our way to have a great day.
All right, we got the 6A. We're going to head down to the job. Beautiful morning.
Should be a awesome day to work.
Starting off about 48Β°. I think it's going to get up to 60s.
All right, guys. We're going to get this back filled. The guys just texted me they're done cleaning up the job. They made pretty pretty good time.
Um, but I'm not going to set the steps by myself. So, I'm going to start by doing the 6A and compacting cuz that's pretty easy by myself. And then when they get here, we can tackle the steps.
This area is going to totally change um by the end of the day, having the gravel. And then we're going to regrade this and regrade this. It's going to look awesome. So, I love uh love these parts of the projects, too, cuz you really get to kind of see the finished product instead of just stacking a block, stacking a block, stacking them.
It's just so repetitive.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat up here.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Good morning. How you guys doing? Good.
All right, the guys are here. We're going to do kind of a finished greed on this wall.
Get the overlap of the fabric.
Man, it's a hot, humid day. I am sweating like crazy already and I'm just running the heat pretty much.
Get a little more stove for the burrito.
Bring the stone up the wall a bit and then cover it with that scrap of filter fabric right by my bucket.
Heat. Heat.
All right, the guys got this area graded real nice over here. We'll still need to do a final uh a final touchup, but this is great for back fill and for any rain we get. Uh can you hand me that saw, please? driver. Need to cut this little ear off here.
Thank you.
We need some wipes to wipe all this down so we don't drip anything. I think it's mainly water, but better be safe.
>> Yeah. Hold on. Let me get right up of it.
All right, that's good. Come pull this. All right, so we got the first one set. That was uh I I knew it was going to be challenging.
Um now we get to just repeat the process. So, we're going to back fill with gravel. We're going to make our mark on this step, and we'll set the next one right on it like that.
>> Nothing too complicated.
That's what my eyes saw, too. Give me a good the good shovel behind you, Ahmed.
Good with that.
Okay.
>> Ready?
Everything good?
Keep it up.
>> Just go like that so your foot isn't underneath it at any point.
Okay. You like your spot?
>> Go to the 2x4 as far as close as you can. Thingama jiggy. All right. Ready, Luke?
Uh, can you pull it to you an inch?
>> So, the whole thing?
>> Yeah.
>> Get really close. One more little pull.
Yep.
Okay.
I'll lift this. Pull. Luke. Pull this out. And Amed. Get the tub by out.
Oh, that's not going to work.
Is that tight?
One more.
Yep.
16th of an inch.
Yep.
All righty. Okay, we're making good progress. We're on step four.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Hello.
Yeah. Where you like where you are, Luke?
Move your strap.
The accountant's here to inspect our work.
What do you think?
>> It looks so good.
>> Why do you sound so surprised?
>> Looks so good, man.
>> Thank you. Very proud of the guys, too.
Look at this. From what this started as crazy.
>> Going to put a nice Trex deck up there.
Stamped patio. This is going to be a completely This will be the nicest backyard in the whole sub.
All right, we just said our last step.
We are just grading this gravel pad here. This is where our concrete landing is going to be. And uh we're getting the last bit of gravel in here.
Heat.
Heat.
All right, guys. We just did a little final grade up. Not a final final, but a final grade for the day. Look at Well, might be too far away for you guys to see.
Look at how awesome this looks. I'm really proud of this project so far.
These are all set exactly to the 16th.
That's the nice thing about these pre-casts. We can glue them, tap them exactly into place, and then they're good to go. And then right here, probably a little hard to visualize, but starting here will be 7in thick concrete landing coming out here. And this landing will match the stamped patio.
Then there's three more steps or maybe four. I can't remember how many I ordered going up here. And then that will be a sidewalk in the future. So, this is kind of why it looks incomplete, but it's going to be even nicer and more custom than if we just kept on going with the pre-cast.
We're just doing a final pickup and we'll get out of here and head back to the shop to plant some trees.
All right, guys. We're going to get out of here and head back to the shop. This is the first like crazy hot day. It's 82Β° with zero breeze and pure sun. It's not that hot, but 2 days ago it was 36 for the high. So, it's kind of a shock to the body. I'm pretty dehydrated. I need to go drink a lot more water when I get home. Okay, guys. We're back at the shop. The guys are getting the uh 2500 hooked up to the tree trailer, the trailer of trees. We've got 20 28 inch trip ball um Norway spruces. And then we have 10 5 foot arboritees. I think I don't or they might be 4 foot. I don't know.
We're going to get some spray paint, a long tape, and a string line. We'll get little paint mark so that everything's perfect. And then uh I can augur the holes. The guys can the arbor buddies will be easy. They'll just be able to pick them up by hand and set them. The 30-inch balls we're going to have to definitely fork into place. They're 500 lb. So, these arbories here are to kind of block the shot view. So, when we're on our back patio, we can't see any of the trucks or anything like that. It's going to take probably 5 10 years before it's actually a wall. But, best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is today.
You just lift it up and set it down there apparently.
Yeah. Something must be wrong. This is like insanely slow.
I think that's it. I don't feel like jugging.
That is nice. But man, that's slow.
>> You don't want the horse, right?
>> No, no auger. Where do you want the arbor bites?
>> 6 foot. Honey, >> what is that? 6 ft.
>> Yep. You want to go more or less?
>> You actually on the concrete up against it.
>> Okay.
>> Oh, actually, we don't even need the string. We can use this as the string.
Just hold this on that paint mark and we'll just pull it tight and kind of range.
All right.
What's up, Hank?
Hey, Luke. Pull that. We got to be right on that intersection.
The intersection.
Pull it.
Yep.
Is our med far enough that way?
>> Is he a tree?
>> Yeah. No, he's a human.
Hank, don't the tree. Are you serious?
All right, pull it tight again.
>> Yep. Go down.
90.
Okay. Wind her up. Hitting pressure. I can feel it.
It's pushing back on me.
That is going to explode. How is that?
So much pressure.
So, you take these out of the pot?
>> Yep.
We'll have these planted in 15 minutes.
It's the pines that take a minute, but I think that was it.
Yep. What happened?
You make sure the hoses are good. We make sure the hoses are good.
You can set it in there. Just make sure we want to be about 2 in above this dirt. So, we need to be a little deeper, >> but not too much to We don't want to be too low.
Did he say what to do with this thing?
>> Just sprinkle a little bit halfway up of the back fill.
>> Yep. So, it's about perfect. So, we'll just do something like that. Luke, why don't you get the tape measure? A normal one you can get from the barn and we'll just go from the um concrete to the edge of the trunk 5 ft. You got that open?
>> Yeah, >> we got a all 10 trees. So, watch out, Anky. I don't think you want to be eating that.
>> Yep.
I have to get my >> Okay. Well, then we'll go 5 foot to the far side of the tree.
So, just kind of hold it plum. You don't want any air in those roots.
So, your foot works pretty well.
Can't believe it, guys. Concrete guy planting trees next to his driveway.
Guaranteed work.
We'll be back. Just kidding. These roots are very weak. I don't think the roots would possibly lift them.
Here's five.
>> Okay, just like that.
Now it's time for the real fun.
Got to swap bits for the 30 in. I've never used the 30 on the MT. So, we'll see uh if it's got the lifting power.
Might have to do a couple digs. Drop the dirt. Dig. Drop the dirt.
See about that.
Take my knife. Make sure everybody has a brand new blade.
Oh, it's a scorcher.
I'm just sweating just sitting here.
Glad I'm not pulling concrete right now, I'll tell you that. Oh, those look so good. We left a gap right there for the basketball hoop.
Those will grow pretty quick. We got fertilizer in every hole, and we're going to water the crap out of them, so hopefully they take right on off.
Um, everybody hold on.
I just push.
>> But there's underc carriage.
All right, I'll drive this. You take them to the first spot. You want one?
11.
All right, we got all the holes dug. I'm going to go get the forks and I'm going to have the guys pull the truck along here so we can just kind of work them right off the trailer and set it right into place hopefully.
Good.
Let's try the chain method again. That's what we did for all the rest of the pines. Just loop the chain and hook on two of those hooks.
Hey, it's on the ground.
It probably looks It looked good like the other holes, but there's nothing soft underneath. It didn't squish down.
All right, there we go. 20 lbs. It actually went way better than I thought with the uh augur.
on the MT. I figured it might be a little bit of a hassle not doing it on the skid steer, but it actually was really nice because we had a lot of control and I could talk to the guys easier. So, I think I'll probably stick with that in the future unless it's it'd have to be like a 36 in root ball probably and the machine probably couldn't pick that up is what I'm saying.
Heat. Heat.
Any cars coming?
We made it.
Oh, let's do 20 mph in reverse.
Just like that. All right, we're going to call it a night. We'll see you guys tomorrow to finish this video out and finish prepping that patio.
Hey, buddy. Hi, boys. Huh? Sorry, you were cooped up inside.
We don't want them planting trees with us out by the road.
You Why don't you play?
Harley's just an old soul. Hank's a little too much of a little rascal.
All right, we'll actually see you guys tomorrow now.
Good morning, guys. It is Thursday and we are back at it again. Going to do some stuff around the shop. I have some need to go do some building departments, a health department, a zoning, all sorts of places. We're uh working on getting permits ready for a pool. It's turning into a lot of work. I'm realizing it's uh the same level of work pretty much as building a full new house. So, I've been coordinating and trying to push people along, but sometimes those those places are just so slow. So, I'm trying to handle that this morning. So, we were going to go down and prep the patio or we're going to kind of flip it around.
I'm going to have the guys work on the trees that we planted last night while I'm doing that. And then we can all go down and prep the patio. So, I think that'll work out the best. And we have a nice beautiful day. I think it's going to rain tomorrow, so this might be the last nice work day of the week. This finally came. Got the DeWalt battery powered compressor. going to find a way to either ratchet strap it or I don't know, connect it to the sprayer somehow for when we're spraying sealer.
That way it's just perfectly atomized the whole time. I'm actually curious.
I'm going to try it right now and see if it works. All righty. I realized I got the wrong compressor fitting. Got quarter inch NPT cuz that's what I thought it was. But this must be 8 in. I don't know. It's a lot smaller. So, I'm going have to take this to Well, I don't even know if Menards would have something like that.
Well, never mind. Can't check the sprayer, but it's okay. We don't need it this week. I'll get it figured out over the weekend. But, I think it's going to be really nice. I think the compressor is more than powerful enough to keep the sprayer at a high PSI and it should just be like if you're a concrete guy, you know, right after like the first 30 seconds after you really pump up a sprayer, it's just beautifully atomized and then you start losing pressure and it starts getting bigger droplets and it'll start dripping more and it's just a pain in the butt cuz it's hard sometimes to hurry and go fast enough to put it down and repump it. So, this should eliminate all of that headache hopefully.
Okay, I'm going to head and uh make my first stop at the first department. I'm going to get the guys organizing trucks for the day when they get here and we'll just kind of play this day by ear.
All right, we got trucks laid out the way we need. I'm going to head to the second place and get that uh permit filed. while the guys head down to the wall job and start working on that.
All right, guys. Down on the job.
Put the windows down. It's a beautiful day. 64Β°. Not a cloud in the sky. We've got our downspout material so we can bury down spouts. We've got our augur that we used yesterday for the trees. I just rented it for another day and we're going to use it on this job. The guys are getting sidetubes right now from 8 point. So, we're going to get these footings for the deck augured down in.
We're going to get inspection. Then hopefully, fingers crossed, if we pass inspection, which we almost always do, we'll get them poured today. That way, there's not a cave-in issue overnight with the rain. And then, uh, I'm not actually sure if the homeowner wants me to pour the patio first or wait till after they build the deck. The way we're doing the footings, we could do either one. So, I don't know. We might kind of stay on this job longer than I thought and just finish up the patio, which would be awesome for me. I hate going around decks and staircases, but we'll just see what the homeowner wants and do whatever they prefer. All right, so we're going to get this job site cleaned up today and get this whole area prepped. Got a bury Oh, I guess it's just one down spout.
I don't know why I was thinking it's two. I'm going to have them kick this down spout over this way so we are not relying on burying this one all that way. It's just not worth it. So, we'll tie this and then at some point, like after we're totally done, this drain tile, that drain tile, and that downspout will all connect and go to a popup somewhere. And then this one can just go off into the yard sideways for Yeah, that's not much roof load at all. So that can just be a popup over there. And that way we have as few things running underneath our slab to potentially fail as possible. I'm always a fan of that. Just kind of playing it safe. We also have all of those. We only used one actual end cap. And then we have all this. We're going to return these. And then we got about 10% extra block. I just wanted to make sure we had plenty. So I ordered extra that way uh we didn't have to stop the project and wait for more. Can't believe I beat the guys, but I did uh I went to the township and got zoning approval for the pool. So, that is the first step in this crazy set of steps to get approved to build the pool. Then, we have to actually build the pool. So, there's a lot of steps to it. But the first one went about as smooth as possible. Next, we'll get into the health department. Then, we'll get into the building department.
And then, we can start building.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Hey, heat. Hey, heat.
All right, Luke and I got these post holes laid out. These ones by the wall going to be tricky.
That one's easy. That one's easy. That one's tricky.
They're going to do steel beams so that they can span without putting a ton of posts, which I always uh think is a good thing. I think it's kind of goofy when you have a deck and then you're going to spend the money on a patio below it and you have 15 posts and you can't even use it.
Heat. Heat.
Heat up Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
All righty, guys. It's been a hot minute. Literally and figuratively.
Concrete just showed up. We passed our inspection. We're going to pour these post holes. I've got the guys dropping off the block at 8 point and returning the augur. So, I'm just going to pour these myself.
All right. the first concrete in poured into the new machine.
I think just got to wash it really good. Makes me nervous not having this door cuz it can splash the interior and that's just a pain to clean. But it's a machine. It's meant to make money.
You lift your bucket like that. So it doesn't dribble as much. So away we go.
Just going to protect our beautiful wall we just built. Don't want it getting splashed.
Just like that. Now I can go a little faster and I don't have to be as careful.
Heat up here.
I don't really know my height, so I'm just leaving this high.
Right.
>> Yeah. Yeah. I didn't know if there was enough angle.
I was going to help you wash out, but you don't have a hose.
>> I got it.
>> All right. Thanks, Eric.
>> I never had that idea, but I just dropped the bucket in the swale and backed away. That way, we don't splash the machine. We don't have a swale on every job. But perfect for this one. I got to get my laser set up so I can get my heights established. And I need a hand float.
All right. So, this is pretty straightforward.
We are setting the top of these footings to the top of our concrete. So, basically just have to do layout like I'm getting ready to form up 11. I want to be an inch below the threshold. So, I'm going up to 3T.
And then I'd like to have a little bit of cross slope here. So I will go down a half an inch. Your eye won't see that.
And this is this height.
Hopefully we're close.
The survey says perfect.
That's what I wanted.
Oh, that stuff's setting up already.
Wow.
Just a little bit too low actually.
Okay, that is flawless.
Now we are going forward. So we've got to pitch our patio. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 1 in.
1 2 3 4. So an inch and a half.
We'll call it inch and 3/4.
So this needs to be an inch and 3/4 lower than that. But what you do on a laser is you move it up so that the bottom of your laser is going down. So you kind of have to move this the opposite direction of what you're trying to do with the grade.
inch and 3/4.
Boom.
It's hard working down inside the sauna tube.
You can cut through these things. You just really got to commit to it.
Yeah, it'll look a little geeky.
So, what we're going to do is when they get the deck layout done, we'll snap lines and let's say the outside of the post is here, we're going to make a nice square. We'll saw cut horizontally and vertically. I did that backwards.
Vertically and horizontally. And we'll cut a nice square. So, cuz this will be a finished area up in our slab. I think they're going to wrap it with a post or something afterwards, but we don't want a 16inch circle in the middle. So, we'll figure out where their posts are going to be. We'll go a couple inches outside of that, chop it down, and give them a nice square. So, that's why these edges aren't perfect, but it's more than good enough for what we're doing. Wow, that's pretty neat. That's hardly any water.
Thanks, Eric.
Heat. Heat.
Screaming.
All righty, guys. We're out of here for the day. I got an estimate to head to.
I'm running a little bit behind. We got the drainage work dug, not complete. So, we need to tie in this drain. And then we need to wire all these together. We got his drain tile for his foundation patched and brought out here to a tee.
And then we have our down spout here.
And then that down spout will kick over there. So, we still need some more fill.
We're definitely low still, but we got our footings poured. We got most of our gravel in. And we got a lot of the stuff hauled away. We got all the extra block returned.
And it's looking better every single time we come here.
All right, we're going to get out of here for the day. The guys are taking home the Mini X and I'm going to bring home the 770. Everything else will be able to wrap up with the MT100.
All righty, guys. Back at the shop.
We're going to call this a wrap for the video. We will pick back up. Luke and I are probably going to have a shop day tomorrow. And we also have a pretty tricky patio going on next week. So, all of that within the rain. And if it is raining, we also have a pole barn. It's It's going to be a busy week next week.
We're uh starting to get into the crazy summer mode where we're packing in as many jobs as we can handle. So, thanks for hanging out, guys. We'll see you on the next video.
