Canada is home to two of the three swan species found in North America: the mute swan (native to Eurasia, introduced to North America, identified by all-white plumage with orange bills and a black knob, consuming up to 8 pounds of vegetation daily) and the trumpeter swan (North America's largest native waterfowl and heaviest flying bird, exceeding 26 pounds, identified by all-white plumage with a black bill, nearly extinct in the early 1900s and now tracked with yellow wing tags in Ontario).

2 of the 3 swan species in Canada! #travel #photography #educate #birds #northamericaAdded:
I'm on a mission to find every species in the world and recently I found two of the three swan species that can be found in Canada. First was a mute swan.
These swans are native to Eurasia and have been introduced in North America where they now thrive. Considered invasive by some due to their aggressive behavior and heavy consumption of vegetation. As adults can consume up to 8 pounds of vegetation per day. The adults can be identified by their all-white plumage with orange bills and a black knob, which is known as a basil knob above their bills. They are called mute because they are less vocal than other swans, preferring to hiss, grunt, and produce loud wing beats. The other species was a pair of trumpeter swans.
These swans are North America's largest native water fowl and heaviest flying bird, often exceeding 26 lb. identified by their all-white plumage with an all black bill. Here in Ontario, they are usually seen with yellow wing tags used for tracking population, migration, and health due to the fact that they nearly went extinct in the early 1900s. You can report a sighting and help with the research by visiting the Trumpeter Swan Society. The trumpeter part of their name comes from the trumpetlike call they make.
Now I just need to find the Tundra Swan.
Thanks for watching and follow along so you don't miss out on my next video where I find the fastest duck in the world at level flight. Any guesses?
