Decomposing sargassum seaweed releases toxic gases including hydrogen sulfide (which smells like rotten eggs) and ammonia, posing serious health risks to people in affected areas; workers removing the seaweed frequently experience skin rashes, dermatitis, headaches, and respiratory issues, and prolonged exposure (48 hours or more) can lead to severe health consequences including death.

Bajans’ deaths linked to sargassum? - Deadly to marine life - Hydrogen Sulfide/Ammonia - BarbadosHinzugefügt:
Hi, this is Sherry Veronica. Recently, I did a blog about workers who were working with the sargassum and picking it up and throwing it away. And I've seen in your news where you have made use of it. You think you can make money or you can turn it into some sort of energy. But when that blog went up, someone who works on the beach told me that the sargassum, what is coming up on the beach, looks a little different than the first set of sargassum that came up before. Remember years ago, maybe always happened, but it's in the news now. But they're saying that it looks a little different and people are dying in Barbados.
That's what I'm being told. The whole coast that entertains the sargassum, where it washes up on, they're saying that people who bathe in the water or who may be in the area like selling and setting up their tanks or whatever, they're saying that people are dying. And when you go online and you look, it says, "Yes, workers removing sargassum have frequently become ill, experiencing skin rashes, dermatitis, headaches, and respiratory issues." And it's because of the the toxic gases like hydrogen hydrogen sulfide. That's what they're saying, which smells like rotten eggs and ammonia, which is released as the seaweed decomposes on the beach. And they're saying that if the seaweed is on the beach, if it washes up on the beach and it's there for 48 hours, 2 days, there are There are problems with the hydrogen sulfide and the ammonia and the toxic gases. They're problems. They're not saying anything about anyone dying, but they are saying that they're health risks and I didn't think about it. If I would have asked the person, well, you know, you talked about a pregnant woman working with this particular thing, you know, have people Have people been getting sick? I didn't I didn't ask that. I just asked her to tell the truth when she's telling her blog, when she's giving me her blog.
Yeah, but what I am hearing is people in Barbados who go to the beach and who will live around the areas where the sargassum is flowing up on the beach.
Someone said to me that people are dying. I cannot even try to tamp it down. I cannot try to use a euphemism.
They're saying death. They're saying that Bajans are dying because they're living and inhaling this thing day in and day out. It's right up under their noses. They may be working at the hotels or the restaurants or whatever and hours upon hours upon hours of inhaling the toxic gases from this particular thing.
So, I'm putting this video Oh, they sent me Well, it was just a video. It wasn't much of anything. But I'll put that up with this. But if you know of anyone working with sargassum because I did put up a blog and that engendered this other blog to come in. If you know of anyone working in the beautification agency in Barbados, that beautification environmental thing, and they have been getting sick or even if you're getting sick and don't even know, you could be getting I'm telling you a lot of people do not know their bodies.
A lot of people You could be really healthy and you go somewhere and you may get sick and you do not tie it in. You do not people do not say well, you know, maybe it's because I was at this particular place and this was happening there when they don't tie things in.
They just don't tie you know, they don't people just don't well, some do but yeah, please if you work in this particular area of government and you have been ill or people that you know that work in this area, they have died.
I guess they would give them some reason that they died what a stroke whatever that put on the death certificate but if you know of anyone, you can comment or you can come to my YouTube not my YouTube my WhatsApp and let me know and I'll blog I'll put up another blog on it. Okay, this is Sherry Veronica.
