When building block extensions, the Damp Proof Course (DPC) must be installed at the correct height, typically measured in brick courses from the foundation, and must lap into the existing DPC of the main structure to ensure proper moisture protection and structural continuity.

Back on the DPC block work - 3 Extensions in 1 - Episode 24Added:
Morning. [music] Morning. Morning.
>> We're back again on the station today.
You know, >> so I'm going to show you guys what we've been doing.
So, as you can see, we laid some blocks yesterday to about that height which is one two three four four heights you know that's the brick layer there yeah you know he's doing well you know he's doing well he's just marking out the vents the vents are going to go you know >> so we managed to find our DPC height which is basically here I think is 1 2 3 4 5 6 so we going to stop on here we're going to stop here this height And I'll show you guys.
There we go. Found a DPC here. And also we found one.
Well, where is it? About here. You know, we found it. But some cardboard build, but it should be a bit higher. I don't know. It's too that too too too deep, too low, I mean. And also, we found our DPC height here as well.
So when when we're laying the blocks, obviously our DPC height is about here.
Just did a we just did a measurement. So when we're laying our blocks, obviously we're going to put our DPC to join here.
There was meant to be a DPC here, but you know, we can't find it for some reason. I don't know if then other builders didn't put it, but obviously our line is here, which is matching that line. And also we found one here as well. A DPC height there as you can you guys can see from the ground to that DPC height. So that's what we've been up to this morning. You know busy busy busy as always trying to get this done. You know Darren is doing well. So you got to go now.
>> Oh struggle is real. Ah, >> yeah.
>> All right.
>> Just trying to work hard so I don't get fired, you know.
>> Yeah. So, I guess I let you go.
>> Don't fire on you.
>> I'll let you go today, you know.
>> But yeah, guys. So, we're trying to finish this last bit of the the block. Then we're going to go for lunch. So, yeah. See you guys.
>> Are you creeping, man? Early [laughter] morning we up on the scene. First [music] day up on the yard and clean standing on the blocks in a line [music] fire but we can't fall behind. Small work then we pass it through one by [music] one but stay up from the [music] ground real heat wave come UP WE NOT STOP one more block then we [music] up and dirty but the we [music] [music] drink we want to get it done First day on we go.
[music] [music] Mix up the motor. Keep it just right.
Level [music] them straight. Make the line look right. Every pound every corner lock [music] foundation strong from the first place. Block man passes respect. You know we just smile back.
Let [music] the progress show. Little by little the wall climb high. Even when the heat made the whole place fry, heat wave [music] come, WE NOT STOP. ONE MORE BLOCK then we lift up top and dirty [music] but the plans get tight. We can't know we work till night. Block day. [music] Block day. We late and stay block day. Block day. I see us rise today. Cold drinks till we get [music] it done. Block day. First day and we come [music] it up line by line. [music] Make it strong. Make it fine. Tomorrow come we go do it again. But today we set the frame.
>> Black day. Black day.
>> We [music] stay.
>> Black day. Black day.
>> Today some cold drinks we want get it done. [music] Black day.
>> First day we come.
>> [music] [music] >> Mhm.
[music] M [music] oh [music] p oh [music] up pop.
>> [music] >> Moo.
[music] [music] Oh [music] [music] hey yeah again yeah again yeah again yeah again yeah again yeah again yeah again yeah again yeah again yeah again yeah [music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> D.
[music] Nah.
>> [music] [music] >> down.
The >> [music] >> a a a [music] [music] >> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Hey, hey, hey.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> Hi guys, we are done for today. Oo, today was not too bad. We did quite well.
Almost did two pallets. A pallet has got 66 bricks in it or blocks. So, we did close to two pallets. So, we did quite well actually, just a little bit more than we did yesterday. Um, so I'm going to show you guys what we did and um show you what we got to do next. Right. So, this is where we are on the back as you guys can see. Now, I checked this. It's actually seven six blocks. Sorry, it's actually six blocks because if you look here and the things are all over the place. So, this is an extension, guys.
This is an extension. So, pretty much from from this wall here all the way around is an extension. Now, for some reason, they put the DPC at different heights than the original house, it's lower for some reason. So, I'm going to have to I'm going to tie into it, but we're going to come up higher just like the rest of the house. So, when we connect, [music] it makes sense when we connect the rest house. So, you can see here is a DPC. I had to break out to find it. Okay. Okay. So, they've done this in in brick here and then they've done this with actually they've built these again just like the other in extension that we took down on the other side. They've only put 140 mil or 200 mil thermalite blocks I think something like that. There's no cavity. It's just solid wall just like the original house. They've just done it and there's no insulation. It's not insulated internally and it's not insulated externally which you can't do today in rigs. Okay. Uh, I think this wall is is we meant to internally insulate it anyway.
Um, but the problem we have here is [music] the DPC should really be sort of about here. Another two [music] brick courses up to to match with the rest of the house. So, this is where our DPC is going to come. We are going to lap down and lap into that. So, that brings us to basically the top of that block which comes to about here. So, that's six blocks. So all we got to do on this side externally is just couple blocks here and then we're done here and then I can do the internal the course which is just to run across here and run up to there.
What we done as well is we've allowed some space for some vents of space or four vents out the front here. So we'll build those vents details up with a couple of bricks and stuff and then otherwise this section is pretty much finished. So we're moving around here and this is where we are here. We've got to do three courses of block.
Uh three three courses and one course of brick, I think. Cuz yeah, here is our here's where our DPC is meant to be. So, we got one more brick to a row of brick engineering brick to put on here. That's DPC.
I can't seem to find the DPC on here.
This wall's got to come out anyway. But the red bricks are the foundation bricks. And then where you've got the yellow bricks. So London stocks this is where the DPC is meant to be where transition from the red to the yellow.
So our DPC line is basically here which is that line there. So we're going to go same thing again. You can see DPC here which is one brick lower. Same like the other side. We'll lap down into that.
And then you can see it a bit clearer on this side.
Um yeah. So here we go. This is the original house and there's DPC. So this is same level of DPC. So what we'll do is we'll be cutting into that and lapping in DPC straight into there. So this is actually the level for DPC.
We're at DPC level here. We're going to have a vent here. And we've got another vent support here as well. Um so I'm going to put three vents here. So we got we're going to have a vent somewhere here, one in the middle here somewhere, and then one there. So we'll have three vents here. And this is this area here is to extend the living room and make the living room wider. It's going to come out to here. And then it's also going to go two stories up. So it's going to make these two bedrooms bigger.
There's two bedrooms up there. A bedroom on this half and a bedroom on that half.
So they're actually going to come out as well. I think this one is going to be the bathroom for that bedroom. The on suite. It's going to be above this area in the second story. So that's where we are. So we're almost here. We just uh that's the end of the mix for the day.
Got a couple more bricks here and then do the internal course.
So that's that this took us half lunch to do. So that's half day. Um then this area will be done basically. And then we'll have to put the steel to put in at some point and then uh then we can take this wall down basically later on. Yeah. Once we've built obviously built all this up. So, that's pretty much where we're at, guys.
Um, good good progress on the blocks that we've started so far. Um, as I said, once we get these some of this internal block work done, we can do some back filling and make some more space. So, when we do finish that last bit over there, then we take our attention to this side of the house, which we will be pretty much working from from that from up there. and we'll run our two courses up there and round to our toilet. So, this is the third section that we're doing. But, so far so good, guys. Happy to progress so far. Hey, guys. So, that's it. We are off. [snorts] Time to take a break for the weekend. So, I hope you guys have enjoyed this one. If you did, please like, share, comment, subscribe. I will see you guys soon.
Take care. Thanks for watching.
