Factorial (n!) is a mathematical operation that calculates the number of ways to arrange n distinct objects, computed as n × (n-1) × (n-2) × ... × 2 × 1, where the numbers grow extremely rapidly (e.g., 8! = 40,320), making it essential for understanding permutations and combinations in mathematics.

Factorials n! Explained Clearly in 1 MinutesAdded:
Most people think this is just an exclamation mark, but n factorial is why you'll never shuffle a deck of cards the same way twice.
And in math, n factorial tells you how many ways you can arrange different objects. Like here, if you have six different colored balls, then six factorial gives you all possible arrangements.
But there's a problem.
The numbers grow insanely fast.
Even eight factorial already means 40,320 different combinations.
That's way too many to list one by one.
So instead of counting them, mathematicians use a rule. n factorial is n multiplied by n minus one, then n minus two, and it keeps going all the way to one.
Because in math, just like this exclamation mark, small things quickly turn into something massive.
