High pressure systems from Canada create sinking air that clears clouds and brings sunny, cooler conditions near the Great Lakes, while rising temperatures and humidity return as the system moves away, leading to rain and storms later in the week.

Sunny skies on Tuesday in ChicagoAjouté :
alert forecast looks absolutely fantastic. Another day of sunshine, cooler lakeside conditions. The rest of the week, rising temperatures. You'll start to notice that tomorrow, and by Friday, more humidity creeping back in, and the first chance of widespread rain and storms that we've seen in some time.
Certainly no rain and storms here on our Navy Pier camera. A beautiful day brought to you by this this big blue H.
That's a surface high pressure sliding down from Canada. As you can see, that leads to sinking air and a real vacancy of cloud cover and rain across the Great Lakes. This is what's leading to great weather over the next several days and more days like this. Temperatures right now, 63 in Waukegan, 69 in Crystal Lake, but a little warmer as you get away from the lake. Overall, we're talking about highs today in the 60s along the lake shore. Really not bad for meteorological summer. Here we are on June 2nd. But temperatures really ramp up thereafter.
Average highs are about 76 this time of year. Tomorrow, we surpass that.
Thursday and Friday, it's hot out there.
88° highs before we only come down slightly as rain chances return this weekend. The rain chances actually start late Friday, and new high-resolution data is showing that it's most likely late in the day. It's from a pair of disturbances. The first one zooms our way from Kansas City Friday evening.
Showers and storms do look likely at this time on your Friday evening plans.
No severe weather risk yet, but we'll let you know if that changes. Saturday, another disturbance. This one a little bit more uncertain in the models. This could keep rain chances going, although rain is slightly less likely Saturday than it is on Friday evening. Today's forecast, sunny skies, cooler lakeside conditions, 75° in town, only 69 in the loop, but 83, a warm day out in LaSalle County. Overnight tonight, windows open, almost as cool as last night. Clear skies, light winds, 52 with nice low humidity. The ramp up in temperature starts tomorrow from the 70s to the lower 80s, albeit cooler near the lake.
Then that lakeside cooling is erased.
Friday and Saturday, scattered storms.
The rain chances do drop, but that's a little uncertain Sunday, Monday. So, we'll keep you posted on that.
Potentially drier weather.
