In Marvel Rivals, character roles (DPS, Support, Vanguard) are not determined by comic book origins or physical attributes like height, but rather by gameplay design and the Chromium system, which allows developers to alter characters' abilities to fit specific roles; for example, Cyclops' 6'2" height matches several tanks, but this alone does not confirm his role, as the game has already shown creative liberties with character designs to serve gameplay needs.

Cyclops Might NOT Be DPS in Marvel Rivals... Here's WhyAdded:
So, now that Cyclops is available for us to see in game, not necessarily as a playable character, but in the new Alchem Doom map, you're actually able to go up to Cyclops and see him. He he's being held captive right now according to the lore. He's in some kind of tank.
Not that that's any foreshadowing, at least I don't think so. You know, he's being held captive in this tank and they're doing a lot of experiments on him, but you're actually able to go up to his model and see him in the game.
And people have actually pulled his model out from the game and opened him up in Blender. And they've been doing a lot of different comparisons and going back and forth in regards to what they what role they think he might be. And there's some people that are saying that there's still some hope that he could potentially be a vanguard. Not to say that he probably won't end up being a DPS or that he couldn't be a support, but some people seem to be leaning more in the Vanguard role, but I do think it's really interesting. So, let's talk about it.
YouTube. What's going on, man? It's Father Dark here on a beautiful Monday morning. I hope everybody had a great weekend. Um, having a great start to your week. If not, I'm sorry to hear that, but let's go ahead and get into the video. So, like I said, a viewer of mine actually sent me a link to a Twitter post where people were taking like size comparison charts and comparing Cyclops in-game model to all the other characters in the game. And there was people who were saying, "Oh, well, there still could be hope that, you know, he's going to be a Vanguard."
uh you know, and this isn't the only post that I saw about it. I actually shortly after that saw a post on Reddit where people were saying the same thing and they were all leaning in the Vanguard category. Now, the thing is is that I just have to preemply warn people. Uh we don't know what any character is going to be. I do this pretty often with most characters that are coming out, especially because that's one of the more fun things about this game is not knowing what certain characters are going to be. We we'll know that a character is coming out, for example. They'll let us know ahead of time, but they don't actually say what role that character is going to be. So, you know, that's something that we do here on this channel. We'll we'll usually take characters and we'll look at them from the comic book perspective.
We'll look at the history of certain characters in the game and we'll talk about the fact that NIS usually uh has a way to kind of alter or change a lot of characters, especially newer characters to the game uh to kind of fit the fact that not everybody can be a DPS. So many characters in the Marvel universe uh would be DPS if they stuck to their comic book origin. And that wouldn't really be fun for people to play the game. if every single time a character released they were predominantly just DPS with just a little sprinkle of support, a little sprinkle of tank here.
But like I said though, looking at this post, I did think it was interesting because a lot of people are seeing here comparing the sizes. Now the thing is is that Cyclops, his model apparently is 6'2. And also too, I want to add I don't know exactly how they're doing these measurements. You guys can let me know in the comments if if you know. Maybe on the Marvel website there's some official like height ranking or maybe they're just using like they they have like a starting height or something from one character and they they've altered that based off of what the other characters heights are in comparison. Uh maybe it's in the heroes tab in their bio somewhere. I don't know. Personally, I couldn't find that myself, but if you guys do know where that is, please feel free to let me know in the comments. Um but his height apparently is 6'2. Uh and the thing that's interesting is that there are multiple tanks that are 6'2.
Now, the tallest tank that we have, I'll put this picture up here for you guys.
as you can see, is 810, which is Groot.
Um, and the shortest tank that we have, um, technically Penny is the shortest if you count Penny herself, but Penny is not the tank. She's not even in the actual game. Uh, she's she's using, uh, like some type of psionic link, I believe, to be able to communicate with her mech. Um, so yeah, we're just hearing her like through a microphone.
It's not like she's actually inside the mech or anything like that, but people were counting her. But like, you know, her and Banner, I think Banner is 5'7, Penny is 49. Um, but the actual just tank that's actually in the game that we play as, uh, the shortest one is also 6'2, which is Rogue. And actually, there's three 62 tanks, which is Deadpool, Emma, and Rogue. Now, the thing is is that those are those are women. Um, no offense or anything like that. It's not saying, it's not saying women can't do anything that men can do or anything like that. It's just saying that like women are usually shorter than men. And I think the only reason why Wade Deadpool is the same height as these women is simply because he's like an exception to the game. He's the the you know the fourth wall breaker. He's the only character that we have so far who's in all three roles and his height doesn't change based off of or his size doesn't change based off of which one it is whether he's heal pool, DPS pool or tank pool. Now uh the actual shortest male that we have is Magneto in regards to tanks. Magneto is 6'4. Now it's not saying that technically because of his height he couldn't not be a vanguard. Uh and it's the same thing with like the DPS as well. The tallest DPS that we have is Iron Man at 6'4. Now, Iron Man, I don't really like to count him uh simply because I would believe that that's not Tony Stark's actual height.
That would just be Iron Man's height. I would believe that obviously because he's wearing a giant metal suit that there's going to be a bit of a height discrepancy there simply because like, you know, it's it's like if you're wearing shoes that have really thick soles or something, uh you're going to be taller than you would without those shoes. So, it's not going to be like your true height, right? But as far as like actual height, we have Punisher which is 6'3 and then we have DPS pool which is 6'2. Then you got like Blade Neymar and then it goes down with like Hawkeye at like 61. I believe the shortest uh DPS that we have is Squirrel Girl. Once again, don't really like to consider the women because obviously there's always going to be a height difference with men and women for the most part outside of characters like Wolverine, which is just always been a shorter character. I believe he's only 5'7 in the game. But as far as men though, I believe the shortest one that we have is Iron Fist at 5'9. But then this whole kind of like logic starts to go out of the window when you start to think about uh supports. Now the thing is is that the tallest support that we have is Ultron. He is 6'9. Ultron once again wouldn't really like to count Ultron because Ultron is a robot. So that's not the same as like human height versus you could make Ultron whatever height you wanted to. Uh but we we do have Gambit which is actually an inch taller than Cyclops because Gambit is actually 6'3 in the game. And then next to that in regards to men we have Loki which is also 6'3. And then right after that, we have tank pool, I'm sorry, heel pool, which is 6'2 and the sizes get crazy from there because we have everything from like Jeff and Rocket to, you know, all the other supports. So, you know, that's kind of my thing on that. Uh, when you have like a rule or you're trying to make a rule of thumb, it kind of has to apply pretty much all across the board. Now, there can be like exceptions here and there. Like for example, if you were to say like this was a height thing and then we were just comparing like Jeff and Rocket, but all the other like actual human characters were around a certain height or something like that, that would be different. But like I said though, from looking at these height charts, you actually see that they're they they overlap a lot. So like I said, you have someone like Gambit who is a strategist, but he's foot taller and like I'm sorry, not a foot taller, an inch taller than Cyclops and he's pretty much like an inch shorter than Magneto. So like to me that doesn't really pan out very well.
That's not something that you can say like, oh, okay, well, he's he's this, you know, height or whatever or this size, so this has to be the case. But I would say that the tank role is kind of like the only exception simply because of like hit boxes. So, this is why a lot of the women in the game get kind of like the what a lot of people like to call like the the the buff mommies or whatever you'd like to call it, but they they do get an increase. You look at like Emma Frost, she got an increase in height, I would say, and like well, I don't I wouldn't necessarily say it's height. I don't know exactly how tall she is in the comics, but she definitely got an increase uh from her her lower regions like her thighs and stuff like that uh purposely because she had to be.
And this is even something that we were able to see if if any of you saw like the art they did before they released Emma back, like you know, whatever like I guess like the concept art when they were kind of sketching it out and trying to figure out how they could take Emma Frost, who is usually more of a petite character, and kind of buff her up a bit. Same thing with Rogue. Rogue clearly in this game is a lot more buff than she is in the comics or however she's portrayed in movies or or TV shows or anything like that. And that's just one of the interesting things about this game is that you don't want to have a tank that has a very very small hitbox.
Now, do some tanks have smaller hitboxes than others. Uh that I don't actually know because I don't know exactly how they do the hit boxes in this game because for example, there's always been this big misconception with games like Fortnite and Call of Duty that uh the female or like the more small like petite characters have smaller hit boxes. But for anyone who's ever spectated like a cheater, the one the cheaters that have like the like the boxes around the characters and you can actually see their their hit boxes cuz that's what those like rectangular boxes are. Sometimes they'll have like the skeletons where you can see them through walls and stuff. Uh but they they always will pretty much have like these rectangular hit boxes. Those are are the actual hit box. So, like whether you're playing a woman or you're playing a man, uh you can actually shoot within that rectangular box and you're still going to be able to hit your target even if the the target is is, you know, visually to us seems like it's more petite or more buff or whatever. That's still what the hitbox range is. Like the way you can kind of think about it is is like with Gan Gray, Gan Gray has the Phoenix that's right next to her, but you don't actually you can't target the Phoenix though. Even though it's there and technically it's like having two characters right next to each other, that doesn't mean like you're gonna have a bigger hitbox with Phoenix. Now, I don't know if in this game if that's how it applies to like tank characters. Like for example, I don't know if like Strange who is much bigger than like I'd say Rogue or something if you were to put both of their models inside of each other obviously has a much more massive torso, much bigger arms and all that kind of stuff. I don't know if like in this game if the hitboxes are all the same for each role. I know there's like certain exceptions that would have to be made like for example like Rocket and Jeff which would kind of lead me to believe that in this game the hitboxes are very different for each character and maybe that's why a lot of these these characters have I mean obviously there's different reasons why they would have more more or less health. You take someone like Captain America who has far less health than like Venom or something right um and Rogue and and Emma Frost. I don't know exactly how much they health they have off the top of their head, but I'm assuming that maybe you would give them less health because maybe they if if they did have smaller hit boxes versus tanks that are far bigger, you would want to give them more health. You kind of like think about like Devil Dinosaur, which is massive and like almost impossible to not hit. You'd probably hit them by accident most of the time. Um, but he has a lot more health than a lot of other tanks in the game. Like I said, when you're when you're thinking about characters like Jeff or Rocket or something like that, they would definitely have to have a different hitbox than like Luna or Cloak and Dagger because they're like a third the height of these characters, if not more. Maybe even like a quarter the height of these characters. But there, like I said, there's usually like trade-offs, though. Like Jeff, I believe, has a bigger head bo uh I'm sorry, head hitbox. So, it's a lot easier to get head shots off of Jeff versus like, you know, someone like Luna Snow or Cloak and Dagger or something like that. Uh who's who's a bit more balanced in their proportions. And you can't even like use the idea of saying like, "Oh, well, this character is someone who I because I'll never forget this is just what people were saying all the time. I've talked about it before plenty of times and brought it up, but I just have to always use Gambit as an example." Uh, back before Gambit came out, pretty much everybody in their mother, yes, I know there was like the 10 people who were like, "He's going to be a support, but they they were really not going off of anything other than like their hopes and their dreams of him being a support or some people it was just cope." Uh, but at the same time though, the majority of people were like, "Gambit has to be a DPS. There's no way that he's going to be a tank.
He's not strong enough or anything like that. He doesn't have any super strength or anything. Uh he charges things and he and he shoots them out and they they explode. That's his power. How exactly does that correlate to healing? And people are literally using the same exact argument for Cyclops. Now, do I think that NIS has the goal to to actually make Cyclops anything other than a DPS?
I'm leaning more toward no. But they have surprised me before. And I have to be fair. Whenever someone has surprised me or done something in the past, I can't just ignore that and act like it didn't happen. Like I said, even with me personally, was I making videos saying how it could be a support or how it could be a tank or anything else? Yes. I really wasn't leaning too much toward tank. I can't lie. It was either going to be support or DPS. Uh, you know, but at the same time though, like I said, I was pleasantly surprised when he came out and he actually was a was a support.
And you know, you have a lot of other people, too, that are saying, "Oh, well, because he's the leader of the X-Men, uh, he could potentially be all three roles." I'm going to be honest with you guys, I don't think we're going to be seeing a three role character again for a while. I think that Deadpool was a massive exception simply because with Deadpool, he was one of the most popular characters to come to the game so far and still is. And I think that they they had an opportunity there because you do have this like fourth wall breaking character and it was even the way that they teased him leading up to the game was completely different if you think about it, right? Like we knew that he was coming to the game way before we actually should have known that he was coming to the game and you know back during like the Game Awards. And I know people say, "Oh well that was the perfect time to do it and it was going to bring all these people." I get all that, but I think that it was just with Deadpool, they had to do everything different because Deadpool is a different type of character than everyone else. He's purposely been written and made that way to where he is the only person that sits there and breaks the fourth wall. Yeah, you have like Gwenpool as well, but still most popular well-known character Deadpool that that actually does that. So, that was something where we saw him popping up and he was in the DPS role way before he actually released and then he swapped over to support. and he was in Tank and that that was the only reason why I was making videos and saying like, well, you know, maybe he might actually be all three characters. But as far as anyone else in the game being like that uh that I can think of off the top of my head, at least any like household name main character type of people, I highly doubt that. They're more than likely going to put them in one role. But I do think there's a reason why they're experimenting on them and and they're making that such a, you know, main point of the story is that's something that they're doing and that we are able to see him on the map. And I don't think that anything about him character-wise, like as far as like design is going to change because there was a lot of people were saying like, "Oh, well maybe by the time he releases he's going to look different or something else." Um, and as far as like his haircut or something.
Yeah, maybe they'll cut his hair and give him like his more normal like outfit or whatever. I couldn't imagine that they would show him to us with his normal outfit and looking the way that he did and having the reception that it did and then we're just going to get, you know, uh, this haven't shaved, haven't cut his hair, like scar on his eye. I mean, maybe the scar the scar will probably still be there cuz it looks like it's a permanent scar, but you get what I'm saying though. I doubt we're going to get him like the way that he looks on the home screen currently.
And if we did, I would be really surprised. And also too, I just want to add, I know this is random, but there's a lot of people that were when they were looking at the model of Cyclops, they were like, "Yo, they just reused Doctor Strange the model, right? Like in his face." And and I can see how people obviously could think that at first, but here's a side by side with uh Doctor Strange, and you can clearly see that they're two different people when you look at everything. lips, cheekbones, nose, eyes, all the things that that we see when we when we compare faces to people, even the hairline, the type of hair, everything, complete eye color, it's all different. So, clearly they didn't use the same exact one, but I could see how people just briefly looking at it going off of your memory.
Uh, you know, what you would think you would think that that would be that they just reuse Doctor Strange's face or his model or whatever, but no, completely different. And going off of height as well. Obviously, they're a different height, etc. So, but I do think that this is really interesting and I love that people are being creative and that they're finding ways to think about Cyclops and how he could potentially be a uh, you know, support or a tank because I think that that's half the fun of this game. If it was anything else, if this was just like the regular Marvel's Avengers game or something or you know, just a Marvel game where where they just release characters and there was no need for roles. It there you wouldn't have anything like this.
characters would just release and it would be more like what characters I mean I'm sorry, what abilities and stuff will they come with or whatever the case is. That would be the only thing people would think about. But with this game, it really makes you kind of like get creative and really start to think, okay, well, how could they do this or how could they change this? Uh, you know, the chromium or whatever whatever is called in the game, how that can like alter characters and give them abilities they didn't have before. You look at Rogue, yes, Rogue is a tank and and Rogue does, you know, in the comics and in TV shows and movies and stuff like that, she can fly. she's she has super strength, etc. But at the same time, they still gave her extra abilities because of the chromium. And sometimes it doesn't even have to be a situation where they're explaining it that way.
You look at Black Cat. Black Cat, she stole something like some kind of artifact or something and it's given her like, you know, all these abilities because she she's making a deal with some demon or whatever the case is. I'm sorry, I didn't read too much into her lore in this game in regards to how she's able to do all that. I I was busy uh, you know, being distracted by other assets, if you know what I mean.
Nonetheless though, she still has all these abilities. Some people are complaining. That was actually another video I was going to make where I was talking about the fact that people are complaining about the fact that, you know, all these characters that are coming out now have all these abilities whereas like the characters that were in the starting roster. They have like two or three buttons that you push and that's as far as they go in regards to complication. You thinking about like Doctor Strange or Wanda and how Black Cat pretty much has like a a spell book on demand and Wanda has like an or a stun orb that she shoots out. She can fire like magic arrows at you and only like a few of them at a time and and that's like the extent of her abilities.
Oh, she can phase out, you know. But still though, like I said, they're they're very simplistic in regards or in comparison to other characters that are coming out now. So, I do think it's interesting personally, but feel free to let me know in the comments what you guys think. Obviously, I know there's always the group people that are very close-minded and are like, "Oh, anything that other than DPS, it has to be Cope."
And that's fine. You're allowed to have your opinion. There's nothing wrong with it. We'll know soon enough. Today's June 1st. Uh, so what we got like another 13 days or so. I don't exact 13th or the 14th. I don't know exactly when the new season comes out, but they it's been coming out around like the 14th of each month. Uh, so yeah, we don't have much longer until we know, but I like I said, personally, I think it's fun. I enjoy reading all the people's comments, whether it's in the, you know, the videos that I make about it or it's these posts that people make online, um, and seeing people go back and forth and find ways to be creative and and pulling up these, you know, exceptions from other characters and all that different stuff. So, feel free to let me know in the comments what you think. I do appreciate you guys listening to my rant today. A little bit longer than I intended it to be. We're coming up on the 20 minute mark, but still, like I said, I do appreciate you all for listening. That's pretty much all I got for this video, so I am going to go ahead and wrap it up. I'm Father Dark, and I catch you guys on the next one.
