French Farmhouse Transformation!

[00:00:04]I'm Chris and this is my French farmhouse restoration project.

[00:00:23]Morning everyone. Well, you join me from a different perspective or being the French word for today. We haven't done French word of the day for a bit, have we? Um, I'm back to work because I had a bit of time off sick and I was doing a lot of work on my house as well. But, as you can see, I've got my work van behind me and this lovely little property behind me and I'm going to convert the top floor into bedrooms.

[00:00:51]I'm not doing the whole job. I'm going to put all the um insulation and boarding in and make it into a space.

[00:00:57]Let's go and take a look. So, this is the house.

[00:01:02]It's lovely, isn't it? It's a cute little little cottage.

[00:01:06]Very nice. They're having some work done because a swimming pool is going in. So, they've carved a nice big trench through the through the garden. And um as we head inside, this is a classic Krzo property. It's actually got the same coin stones as as my uh garden room at the front there.

[00:01:27]It's actually the same age and same style as my place, but they fully rendered it on the outside so that there's no stone showing. It's a lovely, lovely job. Let's take a look inside.

[00:01:41]So, there's no staircase at the moment.

[00:01:44]We're going up through a loft hatch.

[00:01:47]And this is what I'm going to convert.

[00:01:55]It's just like my bedroom. For those of you that um have followed me from the beginning, or if you haven't, you can head back through the playlist and look at some of the earlier videos, and you'll see that this is exactly the same as my bedroom.

[00:02:13]And my bedroom started off in this condition and now I'm going to do exactly the same thing to this as I did to my bedroom. Nice, eh? It's an exciting project. Um I'm kind of up against it timewise, which is why I'm going to film this for a little while and step away from my um leanto project for a little bit. Keep calling it a lean time, aren't I? I need to stop doing that. Garden room. Um I need to step away from the garden room just for a week or two.

[00:02:43]And I mean, I'm still going to work on it, but I'm going to be working here all day. And then on the days that I get off, I'll be working on that. And I figured you guys probably want to see me doing this as well, because it's interesting. And we can see the before and after of this uh of this loft conversion on a classic French cottage.

[00:03:04]Right. First things first, we've got to establish whereabouts we want this to be showing. I've got my hangers, and I've already noticed this one's way too long. I want that to be I want it about here. As a matter of fact, I want about that much showing.

[00:03:30]So, what's the length of that?

[00:03:38]So, I'll go from there to there.

[00:03:42]200 is what we'll call it. 20 cm in new money.

[00:03:49]So, these are longer than two 200. These are 240, which means I got to do a bit of trimming.

[00:04:02]Let's get the correct angle of the dangle using this little beauty.

[00:04:09]We're going to put I'm going to put a rail across there and then one down there. So, let's make that our first one.

[00:05:44]So, where are we up to so far? I've stuck my string line through and um I've got my hangers on on one, two, three, four sections. Now, I've just got a few more to put up the top there.

[00:06:00]And uh and then I've got to get the my tower set up and do the same thing across the top and then we can start insulating it all.

[00:06:11]Weather's absolutely horrendous though.

[00:06:14]I'm really not impressed.

[00:07:05]These are only 170. And they don't have a hanger on them.

[00:07:26]They've got this bit which pops out for the insulation once you've got the insulation in.

[00:07:52]Why do the cycle?

[00:08:13]It's kind of cloudy and a bit misty, but um I think it's going to brighten up.

[00:08:24]Gray at the minute, though.

[00:08:27]I do love where I live, though. It's so green and lush.

[00:08:31]And this time of year, it's perfect because all the the fields are all planted. So all the uh all the grain and all the different products are starting to come through. It just looks it just looks brilliant.

[00:09:01]For those of you wondering how to fix a laser up and adjust the position, this is my technique.

[00:09:11]Grab my saw, screw it to the beam, and then I've got all of that travel there to adjust it so that I can get my line all the way around the roof.

[00:10:07]Right. Well, I've just got back home for my lunch. First things first, I need to go outside and check on my chicken lickens.

[00:10:21]Hello, Gastings. You're still uh stay keeping a safe distance from your sister there. I noticed you three are like the terrible trio and she's over there just doing her own thing.

[00:10:37]What's going on anyway?

[00:10:40]How's it going? She's like, don't touch me. Your beard's looking pretty damned filthy there. Your one's not too bad.

[00:10:49]You look quite clean. So do you. You look quite clean now. Then, how are you doing, young lady?

[00:11:00]You're looking very healthy. I'll give her I've given her bottom a bit of a clean because she was suffering a little bit with a with a dirty backside, but you look nice and healthy now.

[00:11:12]Your your your crest your crest is looking all nice and red, and your backside's looking cleaner.

[00:11:20]She was a bit under the weather. Bless her.

[00:11:41]Need some new snips. These snips have really worn out.

[00:11:47]Need to go to the builder's merchants and get a new pair.

[00:11:52]because they have had it.

[00:12:00]It There we go.

[00:12:26]So, that's one section done. Ta. We can see it from there. This is just a um a first fix just to make sure that everything gets in there properly and it's all the right sizes. I've got to put a bar across the back so that that will sturdy it. And I'll do that in in the next video when I carry on doing all the rest of the walls. But um that's that's about as much as I can do for now. Um because it's the end of the day.

[00:13:00]It's just about to close. I need to get some uh some new tin snips. So let's go find some. Question is where are the tin snips?

[00:13:17]I got these ones. They look very nice.

[00:13:21]Oh, there's those ones, which I've already got. I've had loads of pairs of them. Those ones are pretty nice.

[00:13:35]But they look very nice, don't they?

[00:13:43]sold. I'm very pleased about that. These are good ones. I actually have got a pair of these, but they're very old, so I'm just going to treat myself to a new pair. I've just spotted something up here, which has been on my mind for some time.
