BELGIUM TO NETHERLANDS (Hitchhiking to Amsterdam)

[00:00:00]It's around 10:00 a.m. now. We're  about to leave Belgium. We still have a couple of hours to get towards the border, but today Shish and I are going to try  something new. Hey, we're going to Netherland.

[00:00:56]We're trying something new for the first  time in Europe, which is the hitchhike. So, our friend Edwin just dropped us off here outside  of his town, and we now have about 300 km of a journey to make all the way to Amsterdam. And  we have never hitchhiked here in Europe before.

[00:01:13]We've only hitchhiked in parts of Asia and Africa  until now or the last couple of years. And we've always uh not had the very best impression of  being able to hitchhike in Europe. It's uh it's always been can we do it? Can we do it? Because on  the internet we haven't seen very positive things.

[00:01:30]So today we thought we'll give it a try. But also  we have a backup plan. In case it doesn't work, we take the bus or the train. Yeah. A lot of  our friends from Europe actually told us, "No, go for it. Just give it a try. It's not as  bad as what you see on the internet. There is still a small possibility. you'll find a  ride very quickly to go to the next place. So, yeah, our friend printed out these for  us so that we can hold it out to the road and people can read it. So, this was the  spot that Edwin told us to wait at. So, he also gave us those cards that we're  going to now hold out and give it a try.

[00:02:54]So, we just made it through our first  hitchhike in Europe successfully. Uh we have now come to a place just outside  of Gent and we got dropped off at this uh gas station and now we're using the  second sheet our friend Edwin gave us to get to Antwalk and then to Amsterdam. So the  kind lady who gave us a ride um she told us this is a good spot. She also suggested if we  can find cars with a Dutch number plate then it would be even more helpful because they  might be going all the way. Uh so we're now going to give it a shot and see which who would  be kind and take us to the next spot. But today is quite cold and also windy. Yesterday was  warmer. It's uh 4° right now. Not the kind of hitchhiking we thought we'd end up doing. What  just happened? I just went and asked if they're going to a sand pup and she said yes. It's a  bit tight. We'll have to adjust for the space.

[00:04:31]Hey, so we've made it to Antworp in Belgium,  which is the the final big city on the northern side of the country. And now we're  on the the biggest stretch of this journey, which is to get into the Netherlands.  Amsterdam, I think, is still about uh 200 km or so away. But the family that just  dropped us off here said this is a good spot to start hitchhiking from. It's still very cold.  It's uh 12:00 in the 12 at noon, but it's 4°.

[00:05:21]And the urban planning in Belgium is also not  that good. So many things are better organized and they live also smaller. Belgium. There are  a lot of people big houses and Yeah, it's it's literally on the other side of the world.  I can fly here. Uh this for YouTube. I hope that's fine. I think it is fine. We're going.  So, we finally made it into the Netherlands. We didn't pass through any immigration again, but we  have a new friend here, Jojo. Hello. Hello. So, just very very casually, we have now entered  the new the next country on our journey. Shish is right there. Hello, Shish. And the only like  the only thing that would quite signal us that we are here in the Netherlands is the windmills.  So, we did catch a few of them here and there.

[00:06:13]And now the the boards also are naming Amsterdam  more often. So another hour or so. Yeah, another hour. Another hour and we should be in Amsterdam.  So for our first day of hitchhiking in Europe, this is actually really good. I think  the longest wait was just the last one where we waited for about an hour or so,  but this was just 15 minutes. Not bad.

[00:06:39]Actually, they do hops nowadays because it's actually that's how most people  in Amsterdam get their bikes.

[00:07:06]Wonderful. Yeah. Hopefully if  anybody uh starts yelling at you, we just speak Chinese and open.  Yeah, just keep walking. No, just don't don't interact. Just keep  walking. Okay. The best option. Okay.

[00:07:33]And we have just made it to Amsterdam.  A successful day of hitchhiking. Yeah, we were so clueless if we'd be able to  do this, but we have finally made it.

[00:07:44]And now we are going into the home of our  friend. Steaming hot biryani and raita.
