The Holy Spirit teaches that holiness is a matter of personal choice and focus, not dependent on external circumstances such as health, wealth, or family success; believers must actively choose to prioritize spiritual growth over worldly distractions, as every moment of life presents an opportunity to grow in holiness through prayer, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to Christ.

[music] St. Paul's Multimedia presents Lives of Saints. Episode 189. St. Matias, [music] the 12th Flame. After Christ ascended into heaven, the apostles gathered in the shadow of Judas's betrayal. One place among the 12 stood empty. Among the disciples was Matias, faithful from the beginning yet unnoticed. [music] Peter spoke, "One of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection." Two names were placed before God. From the 72, Joseph Basabus and Matias. The apostles prayed, "Lord, show which [music] of these two you have chosen." Lots were cast. Then came the moment that changed Matias forever. The lot fell upon Matias and he was numbered with the 11 apostles.
The unassuming disciple became an apostle of Christ.
Matias did not celebrate his calling. He understood what it meant. To be chosen as an apostle was not an honor. It was a sentence of sacrifice. He walked [music] dusty roads carrying the gospel into hostile lands Judea, Ethiopia, and Macedonia. He preached Christ to strangers who mocked him, threatened him, and drove him away. Yet Matias spoke gently of the one he had seen with his own eyes. The blind receiving sight, [music] the broken finding mercy, the crucified Christ rising from the tomb.
[music] In lonely villages, and crowded marketplaces, he repeated the words of the Lord with unwavering conviction.
Years passed. [music] Empires shifted.
Persecution grew darker. Still, Matias refused to abandon the mission entrusted to him. According to ancient tradition, he preached in Judea and far lands beyond. Some say he was crucified.
Others say he was condemned and beheaded in Jerusalem. But all traditions agree on one thing. Matias remained faithful to the very end. The man chosen by Lot had already chosen Christ long before.
History remembers great kings, warriors, and rulers. Yet heaven honored a quiet disciple who simply stayed faithful.
Matias filled the empty place [music] left behind by betrayal. And through his witness, he became a reminder that God often chooses the unnoticed, [music] the humble, and the steadfast. Today, the church remembers him not only as an apostle, but as a martyr who gave everything for the gospel. [music] A man almost hidden in scripture, yet eternally numbered among the 12. And perhaps that is the beauty of St. Matias. He was not chosen because he was famous. He was chosen because he never stopped following Christ.
Reflection.
[music] For me to live is Christ and to die is gain. I desire to be dissolved [music] and to be with Christ. A thing by far the better. St. Paul Philippians [music] 1:21-23.
I will give [music and singing] thanks to thee, oh Lord, among [music and singing] the peoples.
I will sing praises to thee among [music] the [singing] nations.
For [music] thy steadfast love [singing] is great, is [music] great to the heavens, and thy faithfulness, thy faithfulness to the clouds.
[music] Be exalted, oh God, above [music and singing] the heavens.
Let thy glory [music] be [singing] over all the earth.
Be [music] exalted, oh God, above [music] the heavens.
Let thy glory [music] Let thy gloryy [singing and music] Let thy glory be over [singing] all the earth.
[music] >> [music] >> I will give thanks [singing] to thee, oh [music] Lord, among the Jesus, [music and singing] we enthrone you.

When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews.
Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you."
After he said this, he showed them his hands and his Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you.
When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit."

Dear brothers and sisters, we have heard a very beautiful passage from the Gospel of John.
A passage which is relevant to our lives.
Very often we too live in situations where for fear of the future, for fear of what is happening around us and because we are overwhelmed by our situations, we prefer to close the doors of our hearts and live in fear.
in anger and sometimes in guilt.
It is at this precise moment that Jesus desires to suddenly appear in something that the Holy Spirit taught me through an experience in my life.
It is not just a testimony but it is the most important learning that I have received from him.
Some years ago as my husband and I were in praise and worship in the house of one of our missionary family members.
I experienced a sudden severe pain in my chest.
As I went home, I discovered I had several lumps in my breast.
By the next morning, it had become extremely painful.
And as I went to my gynecologist, she said, "This may not be cancer.
But we need to rule it out.
Get a sonomorography done.
Even as I was returning home, my heart was filled with fear.
What if I am suffering from cancer?
And to make things worse, another thought came into my heart. Even if you are not suffering from cancer, there is no guarantee that you will not suffer from it again in future.
As I kept worrying about myself, about my family, I remember trying to repeat every verse in the Bible which promises healing.
But none of those prayers gave me any sort of relief.
From the beginning of that year, the Lord had been telling me, "Rejoice in all things. Give thanks.
Pray without ceasing.
And the peace that surpasses understanding will guard your heart in Christ Jesus."
I was not aware that the words of the Lord were going to be so relevant to my life.
I was not feeling like rejoicing.
I could not pray.
What is there to give thanks to God for?
My heart was filled with fear.
I remember my husband checking on me on the Sunday, the day before my mam mamography and how I shouted at him because I was extremely anxious.
And even as I shouted at him, my heart was filled with guilt.
And I spoke to the Lord and I asked him, "What should I do, Lord?
Why am I behaving like this?
It is only the great concern that my husband has for me for which he came and asked me about my condition.
Why did I not reply him lovingly?
And I immediately heard the Holy Spirit speak to me. Yes, he spoke to me in my right ear. He took my name and he said, "Deepa just focus on holiness."
The moment I heard those words, it was as if something that had broken in my spirit was suddenly fixed.
It had fallen into place.
I was reminded of how often the shopping cart gets stuck and you give it a kick and the wheel starts rolling.
I was very thankful to the Holy Spirit.
I went for Palm Sunday mass and as I returned home I picked up my rosary and I started asking Mama Mary for her intercession.
And in that onehour rosary, the Holy Spirit gave me a beautiful teaching about why I should focus on holiness only.
He asked me some questions.
What if you do not suffer from cancer?
Even at an old age, you might die.
Will that make you holy?
Even if your husband starts earning well, will that make you holy?
Even if your children do well in life, will that make you holy?
Let not any situation, whether it is a blessing or a suffering, distract your spirit, your mind, your heart from focusing on growing in holiness.
He continued to say, "Remember the choice to become holy, the choice to walk with me on the way that the Lord has shown you is in your hands.
Even the devil does not have the power to take that choice away from you.
If you are not focused, it is because you have given the power to the evil one to distract you.
My heart was filled with great joy as I realized that like Peter who was sinking in the water, I had started looking at the situation of my life.
The first thing I did of course was to apologize to my husband.
And the next day when we were on our way to the diagnostic center, there is this fear which was in my heart for a very long time when I would ride behind my husband on his scooter.
What if there is a road bump and I am thrown off the scooter and a truck crushes me underneath?
This time again on our way to the diagnostic center that fear rose up in my heart and the spirit reminded me of his teaching and by the grace of God I was able to respond.
Even if I am thrown off the scooter, even if a truck comes and crushes me under it, it does not matter because I am focusing on holiness.
Of course, when we went to the center, the doctor declared that the cysts were not cancerous.
But believe me brothers and sisters, I did not experience a different level of peace or ecstasy because already the peace that surpasses all understanding was guarding my heart.
And in Christ Jesus, the spirit had given me the power to rejoice, to be thankful, and to pray without ceasing.
It is the same spirit who is inviting us today to look into our hearts.
There are times when we go through situations which are beyond our control.
There are times when for no fault of ours we have to suffer.
But as the Lord says, every suffering, every humiliation is an opportunity to grow in holiness.
In fact, every moment of our lives is an opportunity to grow in holiness.
Let us spend some moments reflecting on the quality of our lives.
How often we have lost out on precious moments where we could have used God's grace to make us holy.
Let us ask the Holy Spirit in the silence of our hearts to give us this grace to respond to him instead of keeping people, the things of the world, our own selves, our achievements above all.
Let us endeavor to keep Christ above all. Let us spend some moments in silence.
We will ask the Holy Spirit to come as a refiner's fire upon us.
Purify my heart.
Let me be as gold and preious silver [singing] purify [music] my heart.
Let [singing] me be as gold pure gold [singing] refine as fire. [music] My [singing] heart's one desire [music] is to be holy, set apart [music] for you, Lord. I choose to be [music] holy, set [singing] aart for you, [music] my master, ready [singing] to do your will.
Purify my [music] heart, cleanse [singing] me from my sin.
and make me [music and singing] holy.
Purify my heart.
Cleanse me [music] from my sin deep within.
Refine [singing and music] as fire.
My [music and singing] heart's one desire is [music] to be holy, set aart for [singing and music] you, Lord. I choose to be holy, set aart for you, [music and singing] my master, ready to do your will, [music] Lord, [singing] I'm ready to do your [music] will. Yes, [singing] Lord. Lord, I'm ready to do your will.
>> Thank you, Father. Thank you, Jesus.
Thank you, Holy Spirit.
Let us now bring to the presence of the Lord all the needs of the world.
We pray for Pope Leo, bishops, priests, religious, and the Catholic Church, for seminarians, and all who are called to consecrated life.
We pray that each one of them is able to look to you and be holy.
As we await the feast of the Pentecost, we pray in a very special way for ecumenical unity among all denominations of Christianity that being led and empowered by the spirit, each one of them is able to cling to the teachings of the Catholic Church and grow as one united family, working towards spreading God's kingdom on earth for world leaders and our nation's leaders in particular that with integrity, selflessness, honesty, they are able to serve the people under their care.
for all of those who have hurt us, betrayed us, and made life extremely difficult for us. That by the power of the Holy Spirit and through the blood of Jesus and the intercession of Mama Mary, we are able to forgive them and pray a blessing over them.
For those suffering from physical ailments like heart diseases, cancer, chronic conditions, life-threatening situations that the loving touch of Jesus may heal them and bring them to complete health.
This is the time when you also pray for those who have asked you for prayers.
Maybe your loved ones are in the hospital or maybe someone at home is sick.
We pray for families and loved ones of the sick. For doctors and medical professionals that they may do their work in an honest way.
We pray for those looking for life partners, childless couples, broken marriages, lack of peace, joblessness, financial insecurity, that the love of Christ may draw them closer to his sacred heart and help them to experience his power in their lives.
We pray for youth and children, especially those who are in vulnerable situations.
Mama Mary, protect them under the blue mantle of your love.
We pray for all those who are struggling and suffering.
Let us bring our own struggles and sufferings to Christ. As we join these to the cross of Jesus, for the salvation of souls, especially those who do not know Christ, and for those who in spite of knowing him, do not believe in him.
Let us pray a memorary asking Mama Mary's intercession for these needs.
Remember, oh most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaded.
Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee. Oh virgin of virgins, my mother, to thee I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. Oh mother of the word incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
Let us bow [singing] with adoration to thisment [singing] [music] so great.
Here is new and perfect [singing] worship.
>> All [music] the old must [singing] [music] senses cannot [singing] grasp his mother.
Faith [singing] must [music] serve to compensate.
Glory, [music] honor, [singing] adoration.
[music] Let us sing in one accord.
[music and singing] Praise be God Almighty [singing] [music] Father.
>> Praise [singing] be Christ, his son.
[music] >> Praise [singing] be God the Holy [music] Spirit.
Triune [singing] God let me adore.
Amen. [singing] [bell] the divine praises. Blessed be God.
Blessed be his holy name. Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true man.
Blessed be the name of Jesus. Blessed be his most sacred heart. Blessed be his most precious blood. Blessed be Jesus in the most holy sacrament of the altar.
Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the paraclete. Blessed be the great mother of God, Mary most holy. Blessed be her holy and immaculate conception. Blessed be her glorious assumption. Blessed be the name of Mary, virgin and mother.
Blessed be St. Joseph, her most chasted spouse. Blessed be God in his angels and in his saints.
Oh sacment [music] most holy. [singing] Oh sacrament [music] praise and all be every moment.
