Hidden inside those pores are special electroreceptors >> [music] >> that can detect the weak electrical signals produced by other animals. That means sharks can still locate prey even in dark or murky water. Hammerhead sharks have these same electroreceptors, too, but theirs are spread across their entire head to make this [music] ability even stronger. Hammerheads evolved their famous wide T-shaped heads. The wider shape allows the sensors to spread farther apart, giving them a much larger detection range underwater. This helps them sense prey from [music] much farther away than many other sharks, but that weird head shape has another advantage, too. Since their eyes are positioned farther apart, hammerhead sharks gain an almost 360° field of vision. Even in crowded or complex underwater environments, they can quickly spot both prey [music] and danger from nearly every direction.
