Fibroids are non-cancerous tumors that can develop in the uterus, often causing symptoms such as abdominal growth, weight gain, leg pain, shortness of breath, and back pain; they are common, with approximately 80% of women experiencing them in their lifetime, and require medical evaluation to determine appropriate treatment options.

PART 1: FINDING OUT I HAVE FIBROIDS AND THE SYMPTOMSAdded:
What's up, y'all? Welcome back to my channel. Welcome back [music] to another video. Okay, so um the last video you guys watched, I actually recorded that video back the very end of February, early March.
Um that's when I recorded that video. I just had like a imposter syndrome. I'm not sure why. But I had like imposter syndrome and I didn't want to post it for whatever reason. Um that's why the video is kind of like choppy like that. It's so many different parts that I was like, you know what? I'm just going to I'm just going to do it. And then to find out that I actually forgot that I put the video up to be posted. Um I believe it was on a Thursday. I was actually at a soccer game, so I completely forgot about that. Um so I am here to kind of like give you guys a a small little breakdown and also to show you guys what's in my hospital bag for my surgery day, uh which is coming up very, very, very, very soon. Um so first things first, I wrote me a list, actually. I am my mother's daughter, so I just get to yapping for no reason. If you guys have not watched my video um explaining, I think it's titled enter the answering the question if I'm pregnant. Um I'm just going to give you a short brief rundown uh for the ones that may be watching this video just to get some insight on it um and everything like that. So no, I'm not pregnant.
I found out that I have tumors um which are fibroids in my stomach.
>> [music] >> So I have about five or six. This is what they're saying now. I have about five or six um tumors that are very large. One is about 21 cm, another is about 13 cm, and then we have a few other that they know are pressing on my spleen and one is pressing on like a iliac nerve. I think I said that in my other video.
Um so I I do have what they are saying is non-cancerous tumors. They will check just to double-check and make sure that they're non-cancerous, but also I also have a hernia. So, they're going to repair that hernia as well >> [music] >> without mesh, I think they were saying.
I guess my stomach had expanded. You guys can't really see it. But like I had like gained [music] gained so much weight. I think I told you guys it was probably about 65 lb within just like maybe 4 months. And it's very unusual for me because I'm very active, but the hernia with me gaining so much weight also caused me to have a hernia cuz I was very active in the gym. I was lifting weight, different things like that. That's what I really thought the issue was. I didn't think I had fibroids at all. I just thought I had a hernia because one of my sisters, she had a hernia. And it caused her stomach to protrude. So, I thought that's what I had. I didn't think at all fibroids. Didn't even know what fibroids were, never heard of it. Never knew that it was such a thing to have tumors in your belly. So, um Yeah, I found out I had fibroids. And I think it was probably in December, November, December is when I found out.
Um didn't know how many until like February. Got my date in February. Got I basically got everything in February and I just got on it. I really thought I was going to have my surgery like February or March, but my surgeon, he is 10 weeks out. So, they had to push me out to to May, which I'm fine with that. It gave me enough time to get my stuff together.
Gave me enough time to get my ducks in a row. And so, yeah, it it just gave me enough time to do everything. So a lot of people were asking what were my symptoms and what's some stuff that that came about. I'm going to see if I can put like my stuff on the screen somewhere when I got my first blood work done. All my blood blood work was fine.
>> [music] >> When I got it done I think it was in like July of last year July August of last year. Only thing that it showed up it was vitamin D deficiency.
Um [music] which I now learned it can cause pain in your legs, can cause uh hormone imbalance, it can cause all of that and not to make this about race but black people, black women, we have to get more sunlight, more vitamin D than our counterparts, right?
Um even though we absorb a lot, even though we have a lot of melanin in our skin, we still have to have like so much more vitamin D than others. And so and then I found out that was also making me tired, kind of sluggish, not having vitamin D. Um so I started taking vitamin D, got those levels up and all my blood work was good. I just had blood work done um I believe on May 7th. All of that was good. That was my pre-op appointment. Um I didn't take any videos from that. I just kind of just wanted to get all the they were spitting so much information at me so I just wanted to get all my information together um just so I can have it for surgery. So yeah, so all my blood work was good then. Um back then it was good and here today it is good. My hemoglobin is good.
They did check that and just everything is pretty much good. I haven't heard anything so far as like a blood transfusion or iron transfusion. I know a lot of women do have to have that if their hemoglobin is low or um iron or you know, if it's a deficiency or something like that. Um [music] What else? Sugar was good, potassium sodium levels, everything was good. So, that would kind of eliminate that.
[music] But, my symptoms um to start off was the midsection gain.
So, if you don't know me personally or you haven't been following me for a very long time, um you may not know that I'm very very active. [music] So, I was running maybe 2 or 3 mi a day and that may not seem a lot to a lot of people, but to go from running a mile in the morning to running a mile in the afternoon or running 2 mi in the morning and a mile in the afternoon or doing two and two, I was very very active, [music] like scarily active. Um I always watch what I ate. [music] I'm not a sugar fiend. Um do I indulge a little bit? Absolutely.
I'm not I'm not going to sit here and lie and say I don't. Um I do have my moments, but for the most part, uh clean eating, I stay away from uh like going out to eat. My friends know this. They oh we going out to eat, you going? I'll be like, nah, I'm eating at the house. So, you know, it's just the small and simple things that I do. So, [music] that was the first symptom. This belly would not go anywhere, okay? And I was running in the dead heat of summer in July. Okay? I was run I was doing 2 mi in the morning and I would go to band camp in the probably like a couple of hours after that and I would bust a mile with them and then I would come in and do their conditioning with them sometimes. So, and I was not losing any weight. So, that was my first symptom.
My next symptom was uh I was getting a massage at one point and [music] the guy ran down my back and instantly I felt something protrude out and I was like, oh, something is wrong. So, that was another symptom. Not [music] sure what that's called, but yeah.
Uh another symptom now I'm reading off my paper, y'all.
So, another symptom that I had was bad leg pain, okay? Um again, I'm very active, >> [music] >> so I'm no stranger to like your legs being very tight if I didn't [music] stretch correctly, but this was a different kind of pain and a different kind of ache. So, um instantly I knew something was wrong, right? I was like, I can't walk. It hurts to walk for a long time. And then like if I stood up um just constantly all the time, it it felt like pins and needles that I was walking on. Like my legs were feet were just like hurting. I think I was telling someone else um not going to call his name, but I was telling someone else at that time. I was like, my leg like it's on fire.
Like I've never felt this way before, ever. And so, you know, it was just a a conversation like, "Oh, you're not used to it. Da da da da da." And I was like, "No, I don't think that's it. I think it's something else." So, leg pain.
Um I've already talked about the stomach growth, shortness of breath, y'all.
Oh my goodness. Right now I'm pretty calm, but um >> [music] >> like I could just be having a conversation with somebody and I can feel my neck like bulging and I'm out of breath.
Out of breath. And when I say I'm out of breath, I'm like >> [laughter and gasps] >> and it's probably because um fibroids is sitting on that nerve that is correct uh connected to my heart, which I was told that, so it's probably that, but oh my god.
Going to the gym, walking short distances, going from like the house to my car or going from my car to like somewhere up it does not matter. I am gassed, okay? I am gassed Like >> [music] >> it is like I I can't even explain it. It and it's not even like an out of shape gassed. It's just like you're gassed.
So, I've I've been I've been at the point where I know what out of shape is, you know? Like, "Oh, I'm just out of shape." Like, I'm trying to I'm trying to get my endurance back. No.
Okay? Completely different. Completely different and it feels different. It feels weird. So, that was another thing, shortness of breath. Um Uh back pain.
Ooh.
Like, I've already had back pain before.
Um I injured my back when I was a child um playing basketball, being rough.
>> [laughter] >> Playing with the boys.
And I I injured my back from [music] a young age, but even then, this pain that I feel now is like that times like 20.
And at first I thought I was like, "Okay, so it's probably because I injured my back when I was younger." You know how they say "Whatever you do now, you're going to feel it later." I'm I'm thinking that it's like one of those and I'm like nah, it can't be. It is painful from walking to standing to anything that's I kind of have like a little limp and it's probably because my my um balance is off a little bit and then my legs You know how they stretch your body and your legs are shorter than the other or whatever the case may be, I don't know. But, it's probably a case of that as well, but I for sure know that that back pain ooh ooh it is something serious. So, um I'm probably going to put like a picture up. I don't know where I'mma put it cuz I'm I'm recording on this new thing from Dual Shot Recorder. Shout out to to boy. He made this for content creators and for actors cuz he, you know, pretty dope.
Um so I love it. I love it. So, I'm probably going to put like a picture here just to show like a picture of my fibroids. Um trigger warning.
If you don't like to see stuff like this, please just skip ahead maybe a minute, 30 seconds to a minute. If you don't want to see it, um it is pretty large and I'm kind of trying to cut off like parts of my cuz you know when you go to an MRI, it shows everything. So, I'm it I don't want to show my private area, but so I'm going to show the fibroid.
But um somewhere around there, but it's huge. One of them is like really really big. And then the other uh pressing [music] on my spleen back there and then I got another one that's pushing my some of my organs up. So, it, you know, women go through a lot in their bodies, man. Women go through a lot. So, um good news is I he didn't see I know a lot of people asked me if I had endometriosis and and and something. I don't know. I can't pronounce it. Um and he said he didn't see anything like that. Um they did search for that. None of that. It's just fibroids. So, but he he will double-check just to make sure um the fibroids aren't like on my ovary or anything like that. Um so, he's confident that once he gets it out, which now I he has did all of the checks for like um um like ovulation and stuff like that.
You know, things that you basically go through if you are just checking for fertility or having fertility issues. Um he checked all of that. He said I was good to go.
And so, he just wants to get those fibroids out so it doesn't cause a bigger issue, which I'm all for. Um and so, he very confident that once he get this out um that I should be good to go. That my body would probably shrink back. My hormones would balance so the weight would probably just fall off, but if you know me, you know that if I went 10 times as hard in the gym before, I'm about to go 100 times harder in the gym now. So, um that's just me. So, just a rundown on the list of symptoms again. I had shortness of breath, bad leg pain, stomach growth, 65 60 to 65 lbs of weight gain, my stomach was hard, um back [music] pain, shortness I said shortness of breath. But, it's just a couple of things. So, um if you guys have any questions or anything like that, please [music] like put them below. If anybody's going through like this journey um of having a open myomectomy or I hear people having a hysterectomy. I'm not having that. I'm just having a open myomectomy. So, I will have to get cut on my abdomen. He is looking to do a vertical cut. I did not want to do a vertical cut. I have my own personal reasons why I did not want to have a vertical cut, but he ensures me that it's not like it used to be [music] um back in the '90s. My mom has one and I hate it. She had to have a C-section with me and they had to cut her vertical, >> [music] >> but the way that they cut her was like they didn't know what they were doing.
Okay? So, he assures me and I'm going to be a one of the top hospitals. So, um he assures me that he that it's going to be okay. Um and a he's going to make sure that I'm I'm [music] going to be good. So, um and plus I've been praying. Okay? I've been praying. I've been praying. I've been praying. I've been praying. So, that's just a thing there.
Uh what else? Oh, when I So, when he cuts me vertical, he said he's going to >> [music] >> push the muscle back um to make sure that they don't cut the muscle. And then they'll go in and take it that way. The reason why I couldn't get it horizontal is because it's so big and he said he would not be able to take it out um with it being horizontal. I know [music] people I've seen people online. I've seen people on Tik Tok. I've seen people on Instagram and YouTube that say that you can take it [music] out, but I want my surgeon to do what is comfortable for him, that he's confident in. Um I [music] want to uh trust him. I'm going to trust God that he has [music] given him the knowledge to be able to do what he needs to do. Um so, and I've seen like a doctor in Chicago do all of that, but I even when I was looking to try maybe even get in with him with y'all, it was just too expensive.
Insurance was just like >> [music] >> I I don't even know if insurance was an option. It was just too expensive. So, I was like, I'm just going to go with what insurance would mostly cover um and I'm just going to put it in God's hands. So, and he has very good ratings um very good doctor. He's very nice.
He uh listens to me and I know I'm saying he and y'all like uh but he listens to me. He doesn't make me feel rushed. He addresses all my concerns. I was freaking out probably about a month ago and I sent him a message. That man messaged me back within like 5 hours and it was on the weekend.
What doctor you know?
What surgeon you know is going to message you back on the weekend?
Not only did he message me back, the nurse messaged me back. So, uh I'm just very appreciative that I found such a good doctor and he specializes in all of this stuff, uh specializes in blood loss and fertility and keeping, you know, your stuff intact. So, I'm very very very very happy with that. So, I don't know if I'm going to end this video here or if I'm going to continue to do another video. I don't know. Not really sure.
But, um if you have any questions, please ask. This is a little bit short of a video to kind of compact everything into one. Just to tell you guys like the symptoms and what I may be looking at and uh different things like that. And I think he was saying that my um recovery time is probably going to be extensive. Only because of me being cut.
Now, they're going to try to get me up to walk like while I'm in the hospital, but he was saying that I will try to need to walk by myself, but I can't drive. I can't at least for I think it was 4 to 6 weeks I can't drive. I can't lift anything above 10 lb for like 8 weeks. I can't It's just certain things I do. And so, if you know me, I'm active. I play drums at church. I I I just do a lot. And so, a lot of that stuff is just going to be a no-go. Okay, he was just like, "No." And the nurse had looked me in my face and she said, "You better take your time to recover."
>> [music] >> So, I I take that as a warning comes before destruction type of thing. Okay?
I've seen um a couple of ladies rush to get back to doing their activities and I I get it.
>> [music] >> I get it. You can't be still. You're not used to being still. I get it. But, at the same time, I don't want to risk myself having to go back into the hospital to do something and fix something that was caused by my own negligence [music] and just me not listening, wanting to be stubborn, and you know, they say women always, you know, we can carry this.
Yeah, we may be able to carry it, but it don't mean it's it's not heavy. So, I'm not going to do that. But, anyways, y'all, I appreciate y'all for watching this video. If you have any other questions, please just like comment down below. Um if you have any words of encouragement, send them to uh, but yeah, if I miss anything y'all want to know, just let me know.
I'm pretty much an open book with this type of stuff, especially since so many women, black and white, go through this.
And they say that 80% of women will have fibroids in their lifetime. Who knew?
Who knew?
Who knew? I didn't know, so. But yeah.
Peace.
