The heat index represents how hot the air feels when humidity is combined with temperature, and without adequate air movement, the body's natural cooling process through evaporation becomes significantly less effective, making high heat index values more dangerous than temperature alone would suggest.

Tulsa Weather: Travis Meyer's Tuesday Evening Forecast | July 21, 2026
Added:Uh, it's just kind of pretty out there, gathering place, but it's pretty hot doggone hot, 102. Heat index 117. I spent most of my midday hours outside and doing that hay thing that I do.
Um, and it's just it's stifling. The biggest problem is there's just this is even worse. And I mean because there's just no air, so your body can't really cool off cuz there's no breeze to create that to allow when you do sweat or perspire or glow, however you look at it, to basically get the cooling process of the evaporation coming off your skin. So, that needs air movement. And so, you usually go, "Ah, little bit of air." And even though it's 117 heat index, if you have some air, that helps create a cooling process and we're not getting that. So, what we're watching right now is trees, grass, weeds, mold, smoke, all in the moderate. Air quality is pushing up there a little bit. We're in the moderate in the yellow. Starts to get high as we go into the orange, so we might see some of that this week. We're in the upper 80s to low 100s this afternoon. So, it's the first time we've hit 100 this year as I mentioned top of the newscast.
But, the heat index values they've just been atrocious.
Still 123 down around Okmulgee, still.
And 118 showing up at Claremore. And so, we're put up hay down in this area from Okmulgee and back down to south of Jenks. It's just like, wow, just miserable. And we're talking about temperatures in the 70s tonight. So, there is a little bit cooler weather coming in tonight. That will help out because whether you're man or beast, it doesn't really matter. You have to cool off. And if you don't have air conditioning, you got to find a way to cool off.
So again, cooling center so important.
And then as well, animals they don't have that opportunity in a lot of places, especially outdoor animals such as cattle and horses.
So, tomorrow is a much better day for everybody, again man and beast.
Temperatures being in the low 90s. Big difference compared to low 100s. So, it'll be about 10° cooler. And it's hard to say cooler when we're still in the 90s, but normal high is 94, so a little bit below normal. Don't breathe too heavily because here we go again. As we start to head toward the weekend, it'll start to get really hot with heat index values going back up dangerous levels.
And then to go with that is the fact we do have a slight chance of thunderstorms here. Isolated thunderstorm chance mainly north of Tulsa here for a little while. There's a little boundary you can just barely make it out right here with these little white bulbs that you see.
These are cumulus clouds that are trying to develop. We're at 100 100 in Tulsa also 100 in Muskogee, 102 in Poteau.
It's just hot. And then out west it's not as humid, but it is miserable hot out there as well, just not humid. So, it doesn't feel as bad if that makes any sense at all. Anyway, we're looking at heat advisories, excessive heat warnings, and then we have our tropical system which is barely is hanging in there, but it's not doing too much which is welcome news. So, here's that boundary coming down, so the winds are shifting. In fact, if you're Bartlesville, you have a north wind right now. And notice the temperature differential in Kansas City compared to here in Tulsa. That's a big difference.
And that has a lot to do with a different air mass. Now, it's only visiting briefly, so we don't have a whole lot of help going on with this.
So, we're in the 90s to around 100.
Tomorrow morning we get a break, so instead of 80, we're generally low to mid 70s. We're near 80 though if you're south cuz there's no real cool air coming in. Tomorrow afternoon better temperatures will be in the low 90s.
Slight chance of a thunderstorm Thursday morning in 70, and so that odds of rain are pretty slim, but there is at least a chance of a few thunderstorms even though temperatures will be rebounding back into low to mid 90s during the afternoon. So, the forecast itself is obviously not as bad, but still hot. And then really hot once we get to the weekend into next week. Our Bob Mills Weather Event is not a two-day event, it's just Saturday. But we're going to just kind of enjoy the whole weekend because it will get hot again next week.
That's a look at your 9-day forecast.
