[00:00:00]Good morning everyone and welcome back to another video. I really hope you guys are doing well and keeping okay. I have just pulled up outside my nan's care home ready to step into the dementia world again today. I always find it a little bit hard at this point making that move of getting out the car and going into the care home. And I feel like sometimes that isn't spoken about enough of how difficult that process can be because you really just have no idea on each and every day of what you're walking into and how today can look.

[00:00:30]Now, I did want to share something on this topic here because the care home manager had actually shared with me recently that it'd be a really nice idea to share alongside online as well about how you can kind of call the care home maybe 10 minutes before your visit just to gauge how today has been and how things are right now before you step into the dementia world because so much can change in a really small space of time, especially with dementia and it can be really difficult to know how things can be behind the door. And it really is just one of those daunting moments where you're walking through the corridor, you're walking up to the house, you know, you're unlocking the door, you're walking through that door, and you have no idea of what life is looking like on the other side of that door today, whether it's a sleepy day, whether it's a happy day, whether it's a sad day, whether it's an angry day. And it's really hard to prepare yourself when you don't know what you're preparing yourself for. So, I did just want to share that online because I thought it was a really nice way to be able to encourage other people to maybe do the same about calling before so we can kind of prepare oursel for what's happening right now in that moment. And again, so much can change in that space of time. But it just makes it a little bit easier of walking in. But yeah, let's go step into the dementia world and see what today holds. When I last visited my nan 2 days ago now, she was quite bubbly and bright. So naturally, I prepare myself for the opposite end of that because my nan goes through like three, four days of really high energy and then the rest of the week she will literally just be sleeping. So I try and prepare myself for if I've had a good day, the next visit will be like a low day and then the next visit could be a high day. And I'm trying to not like expect too much. So I'm disappointed in a way. I'm trying to feel like I'm not sure. It's hard to explain, but it can be really hard to step into the world.

[00:02:20]And I'm sure a lot of people can understand that feeling. And if you do, I really do resonate with you. But let's go see how Nan is doing today. I thought today we could do a bit of a vlog of the visit of how today is looking and just capture little moments throughout the visit. Um, but also just keep moments for oursel too because it's really important to kind of have a good balance. But yeah, let's go in. Let's go see how she is and let's step into the dementia world again today. I've got a cup of tea for Dorothy.

[00:16:59]>> Oh, we'll have to make sure we get some on there, then. Well, I've brought us some jelly sweets today. These are by the Jelly Drops. You guys might have heard of these before. They've very kindly sent us out a box of some of the flavors. So, we've got six different flavors in here, and they are filled with 95% water, electrolytes, and vitamin B's to be able to get in the fluids if you are struggling. The only thing I will say is how amazing they are. They can be a real difficulty of picking them up for somebody that may struggle, especially like really slimy little jellies. So, what we do is we put them into a little cup and mash them down like jelly, and it's a bit of like a dessert sweet treat. and it just gets in that fluid in a different form in a bit of a fun sweet kind of way. So, I know my mom loves the strawberry ones, so I normally go in with a couple of these and then we just mash them down. I would recommend having a look if you are struggling with getting the fluids down cuz we definitely went through periods on this journey where Nan struggled to drink and >> down.

[00:18:30]>> It's like strawberry heaven. Yeah, I think these are amazing, especially when the weather is getting a little bit warmer out there. And um like I said, you can't get the fluids down. It just makes it a little bit more fun to drink water. And of course, they are filled with the electrolytes in here as well, which is always really good to know that they're filled with goodness. And there's lots of different flavors. We do prefer the strawberry ones, but they've got like orange, lemon, >> no m in your mouth. Mom, >> you've got your jelly in your mouth, haven't you? Lots of different ones. But I didn't want to put your hand in your mouth cuz get ice cream all over it.
