Spending $150,000 on a restoration means nothing if you neglect the basic engineering of a simple hood latch. It is a stark lesson that aesthetic luxury can never replace the functional reliability of essential safety components.

Never Thought This Would Happen To My $150,000 Truck 🤦🏻♂️追加:
What is up YouTube? Welcome back to the gas show and welcome back to another video guys. And today, well, today is a good day, but yesterday wasn't too good.
As you guys know, and you guys seen, and I want to make it clear here before we start the video, this is uh if it's anybody's fault, I feel like it's my fault uh for not double-checking. But if you've been on the social medias, you seen that the C10, the 1972 truck that we just picked up from Harvey, I had a little incident on the freeway, headed to uh headed to the house. I am going to say this, I was speeding. I was going miles an hour. Uh, and it was a really windy day. And uh, and I guess it happens to everybody because I've seen a bunch of stuff on the internet that it's it's happened to a lot of other trucks, a lot of cars, trucks. Tito called me.
He's like, "It happened to me on a Mustang. It happened to Manuel on a on the F-150. It happened to a buddy of mine, a 454, uh, on C10s, Impalas, all kinds of stuff." four guys. I was driving going 80 miles an hour headed to the house at night and the hood just came up on me on the 1972. Now, my reaction was since I do a lot of no prep racing and truck goes all over the place and I be going sideways with the burnouts with the trucks with the cars.
It wasn't too I didn't really panic as much as you might have thought or other people might think cuz I got some cars like bro everything, you know, how was it? You know, uh did you [ __ ] your pass?
I was like, no, not really. I just, you know, had to react pretty quick. Um, so I was driving, headed home. The hood comes off on the 1972. It doesn't come off completely, but it I guess it wasn't latched correctly. And boom, it hits the roof. Luckily, the window didn't break.
And what's up with all these love bugs, bro?
They're everywhere, bro. The love bugs.
>> No wonder Alex is in the back fighting and [ __ ] Look at this [ __ ] Um, headed home. Hood went over, you know, it wasn't latched correctly. It went up on me. It ended up uh messing completely.
Every the hood was it's gone. I don't think we can replace the hood. Luckily, it didn't break the window. It did hit the roof. Uh nothing else was damaged. I mean, it could have been a lot worse, guys. Um I could have slam on the brakes, lost control, hit the wall, hit another car. Take in mind this is at night, 9:00, 9:30 p.m. at night. Now, like I said, and I want to make it clear, I don't think it's uh if it's anybody's fault, it's my fault for not double checking. Now, I did pick up the truck from Harvey. We did tow it, put on the trailer, went 40 minutes, 45 minutes on the trailer. We were also hauling ass on the Raptor. You know, everything was great. We got to the shop, unloaded it, went to the gas station. There's proof.
We drove it. I drove it home that night.
Went all the way home. I live 30 minutes away. Hauling ass as well. Came back in the in the morning. The next day, woke up, go went to the gym, drove that thing to the shop, went to the alignment place. It did an alignment right there real quick and I was like, you know what? I feel like driving this truck again. I'mma take it home. So, on the way home, now that that day, the second day that I took it home was windy. Uh, and I believe it was just too much air coming through. Maybe it wasn't lashed correctly. Maybe it was. I'm not too sure. Who knows the But we know is that the hood came up and it ended up messing up uh the hood and a little bit of the top of the truck. And the good thing is that we are here at Alamo Customs and it's going to get fixed. And with us being here dropping off this 1972, well, we're also picking up the F100. As you can see, it's ready. Uh, and I think Robert here at Alamo Customs is the perfect guy to fix the 1972. So, enough of the talking. Just want to put, you know, explain what I think that happened. I'm not too sure. What do you guys think? You think it was latched?
>> I think it was latched, but I mean, it was real windy that day.
>> It was really windy. Now >> they now they said it's a pretty common thing with those with OC10s and aftermarket latches as well.
>> Yeah, exactly. Yeah, that's what we're going to get. I was going to get to that point. The latch, it's aftermarket latch. Uh Harvey did recommend to use the res original one. The original one doesn't look as cool as the aftermarket one, but who knows what really happened if it was latch if it wasn't. Um but it was really windy that day and luckily nothing happened to the truck except just the hood. Um and we're going to get the comments like, "Oh, what do you mean nothing happened to the hood?" Well, yeah, but it it could have been a lot worse.
>> Yeah. You could have hit the wall, [ __ ] flipped over.
>> Exactly. Yeah. So, I mean, at the end of the day, it's just material parks that we could fix. And no, it wasn't pero's good.
>> As long as you're safe, bro.
>> There you go. There you go. Um, so yeah, it wasn't. I seen all the comments like, "Oh, pero was had nothing to do with it, you know. And if if we did unl if we did open the hood and we did close it, I mean the the hood was shut correctly cuz I mean I could see if it was if there was a if there was a gap there was a gap in the hole.
>> Yeah. Yeah. I got a pretty good eye.
>> Did you notice that when it was at the shop? Remember when you closed it?
You're like, "Oh [ __ ] it didn't it didn't close right." So you picked it up.
>> Yes. And I closed it again. Yes. Yes. So I mean I could see if that it was unlatched.
>> But I mean we drove it. A Costa was with me. We picked it up. We drove it. It was good. I mean, everything looked kind of, you know, sealed or not sealed, but everything looked pretty shut. Uh, like I said, I don't know if it it was latched or it wasn't. Whatever it was, I mean, it could have happened to anybody.
Luckily, it it just messed up the hood.
I was able to, you know, get out of the situation without getting hurt.
>> Yeah. You didn't you didn't bust the windshield. You didn't bust the the the drip rail on the top.
>> Rolling down 45 South Paul Nash. Boom.
You saw you saw me cuz I disappeared. He was behind me. I got on the freeway and just booked it. Uh I was on the fast lane, so I'm going I see the hood kind of like go up like this a little bit.
Boom, boom. You know, and then I was like, "Oh." And then it was just just too quick to I mean, it was just it was just happen too fast.
And then pass, right? So I'm like, "All right, so what do I do?" You know what I'm saying? I can't hit the brakes, you know? I can't panic hit the brakes. I got cars right behind me. So I kind of stick out my head real quick. A >> ventur style. Yeah.
>> Excuse me, gentlemen.
>> Pop the pop, you know, pop my head out the window to make sure everything's good. You know, I kind of let off the gas, break a little bit, get on the on the Is it the medium where the walls at?
>> That's Yeah. No, the median's in here.
>> I got in the middle, but that So, there's a wall right here. We got a little bit of space, bro. So, I park real quick.
>> Like the shoulder?
>> I at the shoulder, but not not on the not on the safe. Not on that side where you got more space through the wall. So, I park I, you know, get to the side real close to the wall cuz I I mean, it was tight. I get off. I'm like, I'm trying to close the hood. So, I close the hood.
It's all bent and everything. I close the hood. I was like, "All right, cool.
This will make it." Get back on the truck, look back. There's a lot of traffic coming through Holland as well.
I There's a little bit of space, a little bit of gap. So, I was like, "All right, I need to get to the to the other shoulder to the to the safer shoulder and then just ride the shoulder all the way to to to exit the freeway and get off on the feeder." So I take off 30 40 m an hour. I take off. Hood comes up again though.
>> Boom. Slams again against the the the the twice.
>> Twice. Yeah. So I'm like, "All right."
So now I was like, I just drive it like this. So I drove it to the other side.
Got off, shut down the hood again. It just rode the shoulder all the way. Got off on the first exit and just went through the back roads, bro. You know, with the hood all kind of like this.
>> I thought I thought you were so pissed off. You ripped the hood off.
>> No, no, no. And then I got home.
>> Left it at the gas station.
>> No. And then I stop at the gas station and uh then I take a picture and I send it to the guys on the group that we got.
>> We thought it was AI.
>> Yeah, everybody thought it was AI.
>> Show me how to use AI.
>> He's trying to he's trying to get us back when we did gaps.
>> No, this time was this for real, bro.
>> Nice try, buddy.
>> There's no no AI over here, bro. So, I get out the guy. I go to the gas station right before the crib. I get off, slam the truck, pop the hood open, take a picture, shut it down, take another picture. And Sashi, if you want to drop those pictures right now. Those are the pictures that I took. I got home, took off the hood because it just looked ugly, bro. And then I took off the hood and it didn't really look too bad. So then I called Bud Light the at night. I tell him, "Hey, hook up to a trailer and come and pick this thing up in the morning. Bro, I don't want to see this truck at my house. It needs to go to Alamo. It needs to get fixed right now just so I can feel better." And not me, it's not fixed. It's still here, right?
We're going to be checking it out right now. But I know that it's going to get fixed. You know what I'm saying?
Exactly. I know it's at the doctor already, so I don't have to worry about it. So, >> and that hood look like somebody got choke slam on that hood.
>> Grab somebody and JUST >> two big dudes too. You know WHAT I'M SAYING?
>> But it look like But for >> real.
>> Oh, man. I just see Sashi doing the little All right, enough of that. Let you go guys want to see. I'm sure you want to.
The Ford is is cool. Y'all seen that?
It's fixed. I haven't seen the truck. We got to check it out what exactly they all did to it. But let's let's go look at the damage.
>> Oh, >> man. It's like going to visit someone at the hospital, dog.
>> For real.
>> But you already had plans of bringing it here. No.
>> Yeah. So, and then I was like, man, why why, you know, why did this happen? You know, but I always try to look at everything positive, you know? So, I was like, "Okay, this is God sending me a sign that I need to do it for a paint job, >> you know, and it, you know what I'm saying? Like, yeah, God, you know, that's how I see stuff." You know, it like I said, it could have been a lot worse, but it was just the hood and the cow panel that was going to get replaced anyways because we're going to do the the wiper delete stuff. So, he was like, "I'm just going to order you a new one.
We're not even going to do body work on this one." So, let's check it out.
>> What's going down?
>> Go, sir.
>> How we doing?
>> Good, man.
>> Yeah. What's up, man?
>> All right. So here we got we're just explaining the the story of what happened. Now you you worked on a lot of these trucks. Is this is this normal to happen? Like it happens on a lot of not that you guys built but you know is is it normal? Right. It's normal, right?
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. If you know cuz these are aftermarket latches and they're not made like GM makes them and they uh >> they're sometimes they fail.
>> In this case, this is what happens. Now I did say it could have been a lot worse.
>> Oh yeah.
>> You know uh luckily I acted pretty quick. Uh the windshield looks pretty straight. It's only the hood, the cow panel that we were going to replace because we were going to delete the wipers and then we got a little bit of damage on the hood.
>> So, let's go ahead and show it. Show the damage, you know. So, here it is, guys.
Um this thing went up all the way up like this. Came and hit right here and a little bit of the hood. Luckily, we did not hit the windshield. I mean, if we would have I mean, if we would have break the windshield, we put a new one on. But luckily, we can save the windshield. We just got to repaint the top. And then this was going to be replaced cuz we were going to delete the cover up these holes because we don't we don't have wipers and we're not going to be driving this truck in the rain anyway. So, so what are we going to have to do here? We're going to have to paint uh just to match everything up. Uh we got some scratches right here as well. A scratch over there as well. So, we're going to have to kind of repaint the tubs. This is new.
>> Uh to cover up all the lights that Harvey did, uh the I guess the the harness and the the whatever. So, we're going to have to repaint this. He can just prime. Yeah, he primer these just to >> cuz I told him I was going to bring it over here once he was done. So, he was like, "All right, I'll leave it like this." Um so, yeah, new cow panel. Kind of repaint this. Repaint this right here. I guess we're going to have to repaint the whole wood. I mean, the whole roof.
>> Yeah.
>> Right. Uh Bud Light was telling me about the lines.
>> Yes.
>> Do you want to get all that fixed?
>> Yeah, we're going to have to >> cuz the door chipped here.
>> The door chipped. Yeah.
>> But you know, he was showing me some stuff yesterday and and and for sure this door over here.
>> Uh-huh.
>> Let me show you. It's uh I don't know if it's because of that, but this thing >> Oh.
>> And see, look at the door. It's cracked.
>> Oh, okay. Okay. Okay.
>> It's cracked down here.
>> Uh-huh.
So to do it, you got to pick it.
Pick it up.
>> There we go.
>> It was It was already like that.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah, it was. I guess it was already like that, >> but we're going to have to do some adjusting on that.
>> Yeah.
>> You see how the paint line here? It's above the mold and it should be in the middle like that.
>> Should be in the middle, right?
>> But, uh, you know, little stuff, you know, whatever you want to get done, you just give me a list and then we'll take care of it.
>> Yeah. I think we can uh yeah, paint pretty much everything, >> you know, take up all the lines to get the lines right, fix the door. Uh the the hood stuff, it looks really really bad, but it's just it's really not not not too bad.
>> Uh it's just replacing panels, replacing that panel, replacing the hood.
>> Good thing is it didn't do the firewall.
A lot of times when they do that, >> they pin the firewall and it didn't get in the firewall. So that's good >> because it it pretty much it was it was kind of stopped right here, right?
>> Yeah. Yeah, cuz sometimes you'll bring it back. I took that to both sides, but it did >> well. Whoever did the firewall >> did a good job.
>> Did a good job. Yes. Um, so yeah. I mean, it was going to I was going to bring it over here cuz we were going to fix a bunch of the little little stuff that was that I've seen on it. Uh, but now that it's here, yeah, we're going to have to fix. This was the stuff that we were going to fix, but now we just got extra work and and and and redo the hood. And the hood, guys, is over here.
>> Uh, and this is not this is not good no more, right? No.
>> Yeah.
>> Um, >> how do you know if this was aftermarket?
>> Uh, the quality that it is, man, is real clean.
>> More than likely, it's an aftermarket.
>> So, this was an aftermarket. Okay.
>> I don't know. Arnold might fix it.
>> Arnold likes to fix things. Arnold can fix that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> But over here, >> but not for this truck.
>> No. No. Not for this one. No. No. No.
But on this one, on this truck, we're going to have to get get a new one.
>> Yeah.
>> Um, and you can get this, right?
>> Oh, yeah.
>> The cow hood or you going to keep it?
>> No, no, no. We got to keep it factory. I don't think a copper would look good on this.
>> No, no, I think factory.
>> Yeah, factory. Factory is the way to go on this. Um, so yeah, pretty much repaint the hood roof. I mean, pretty much the whole truck >> and then the bed. The wood bed.
>> The wood bed. You know what? I'm actually It's growing on me a little bit. The brown. But what you think?
>> You think it looks good like this?
>> It looks good. The interior matches the interior. But if you want black interior, then we're gonna have to do this black wood.
>> Yeah. Well, for right now, I think we should leave it brown.
>> Okay.
>> So, I can work I'll rather focus on the paint.
>> Yeah.
>> Make it look nice. I mean, the little Yeah, it doesn't look bad at all. It At first, it wasn't I'm not a I don't really like brown or tan or whatever.
>> It goes good on this, >> but it it goes with it. I mean, it it >> I think he had to put the trim back in here and put white top.
>> That's another That's another question right there. Go top.
>> Just to make it your truck now. Yeah.
you turn it, you know, change it up a little bit and make it now it's your build, >> you know, like >> this is the first set that I've seen that are fiberglass.
>> Okay.
>> Normally they're steel.
>> They're steel. Yeah.
>> But, uh, we can we can reinforce that to where it's not going to be real flimsy like that. Yeah. Flimsy. We can put some reinforcement in there.
>> You know, fix the little cracks in this guy. That's one thing you get whenever you got fiberglass, it start cracking.
>> Okay.
>> But, uh, that that'll be a a rattle going down the road.
True. Yeah. Yeah.
>> So, what do you do here? Put like a bracket underneath kind of line it up.
>> Yeah. We have to fiberglass it inside.
>> Okay.
>> Take it off.
>> That and also here like this stuff is cracked right here on the bed and hinge or whatever.
>> Okay. Yeah. The other side's welded.
>> Okay.
>> And they put a bolt on that one to fix it.
>> So, yeah. Just uh yeah, we got to fix make everything look nice. I mean, it is a show truck and we're going to be showing it off. And once we put up with the big boys over there at the C10 shows, >> we gonna get clowned, you know, cuz all their boys, their boys don't play over there.
>> Especially Charlie Brown's going to be over there.
>> Not Charlie Brown, but big Charlie or a Charlie C10.
>> Don't even bring this out if I'm there.
>> Showstopper.
All right, chat. Now that we got the figured out here with the 72, fix everything. New paint job pretty much.
uh fix the lines, new hood, new latch, new hinges, fix the door on one side, fix the roof. Uh we're going to keep the window with the trim just because it fits the truck. He's going to be fixing all the trim as well. There's little gaps between the the trim uh the the body and the trim. It doesn't seal right. So, he's he said he got he got a way to do it. So, um it's in good hands.
I'm glad that it's here. Like I said, nobody was hurt. It was just, you know, some cosmetic stuff and we'll be rolling in no time. But now, let's talk about this F100 that we This is actually my favorite old school truck that I got.
>> More than that one.
>> More than that one, bro. I don't know why. It's just maybe cuz it's different.
And it's a Ford. And we can already tell that the the the trim is really polished.
>> Man, wait. You see the back one?
>> Yeah, back one is pretty big.
>> We took all the trim off. We got it repaired PDR, one of the dents, and I got a Jose Velasquez uh Velasa Detail to polish all the trim out. Chrome grill and all that.
>> Chrome. Yeah. And uh >> cuz back then it was dual, you know, it wasn't too It was It was polished, but it wasn't as bright.
>> Yeah. All this right here was black factory.
>> Okay.
>> That's why it broke it up.
>> Oh, yeah. Look like a mirror.
>> Oo. Almost matches the bumper.
>> Yeah. Have you done an F100 before?
>> Couple of them.
>> Couple of them. Yeah.
>> This this model?
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. It's cuz you I'm asking cuz you you hardly see them.
>> I know.
>> Yeah. But I bet you you've done a bunch of Yeah. They're way more.
>> Okay. So, polished all everything, all the trim and everything. Um, >> you had your ugly gas cap that you could see. I have my guy Marcos.
>> My guy Marcos handm made that.
>> It's got a drain hole on it, too. So, you can just put the gas, click it down.
All the lines match.
>> I'm surprised. I didn't expect to see this. He did say, "I'm gonna cover it up and make it look nice, but I thought he was just BS like everybody else."
>> So, did you have to get that panel off of another bed to match up?
>> He handmade that.
>> Oh, yeah. Oh, [ __ ] >> My guy Marcos Oga, man. He's real good.
>> Is that your like fabricator here?
>> Yeah.
>> And then we painted the whole bed, right?
>> All the bed. You had rust uh stains.
>> Yeah.
>> And stuff like that. We fixed all that.
>> Nice. Yeah. That was one thing here that we needed to fix the bed. Now the bed looks But nothing on this bed. Okay.
>> Nothing. Take it right now to get a bed liner.
>> No, no, no, no, no, man.
>> No bed liner. No, no, this this came out real sick.
>> So, >> they had a lot of little rust in here, too.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> These these were these were like uh just raw metal.
>> Raw metal.
>> We painted painted them. Yeah.
>> That way everything looks even close together.
>> Yes. Came out real nice. Perfect.
>> Got your chrome handles.
>> Oh, yeah. We got some chrome handles.
Yeah, cuz this one was uh a pink. They were all pivoted. So now you got your chrome handles. You got your billet strikers >> right there.
>> This truck is just nicer than the C10. I don't know.
>> Open the door. It feels different.
>> Awesome.
>> Click now.
>> Yeah. Now these old school trucks with the new with the with the rubber with the what you call it the the gasket. You got to you got to >> Yeah. Especially when they're brand new.
You got to work them in. The C10s. They got a another kit that you can buy off of a Honda Civic and put on there and they work perfect, but you can't use that on this.
>> And then we fixed the >> the cracks >> the cracks here >> that you had on both sides. Yeah, both sides. You had that.
>> Perfect.
>> You had uh you wanted hood hinges.
>> Oh, yeah. Cuz uh we had the original ones on this one.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Okay.
>> Yes.
>> Those are Marsh.
>> Yes.
>> And the first set that we got the strut on it was 400 lb. and the hood was still falling. So, I had to get them to send me this 500 lb each cuz this is a factory hood.
>> It's heavy.
>> And it's heavy.
>> I don't think this is going to go up on me on the freeway.
>> No. And I don't see why they didn't send me the correct ones to begin with because >> piece of wood, >> you know, it's a factory hood.
>> I knew what it was going on.
>> But, uh, yeah, I still got to send the other ones back.
>> And we don't have to worry about that, guys. On this one, we got this. This looks original.
>> That's all original.
>> And this looks factory, too, right? This is paint. Okay.
>> Yeah. All All your grills all polished out.
>> Yeah.
>> Headlight buckets.
>> Nice. 68 grill. 71 bodies.
>> The gap.
>> The gaps. Okay. They they they were uneven.
>> Yeah. Now they're all the way straight.
>> And then this side was painted as well here.
But >> then you had a scratch in the jam down there that we fixed.
>> Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> But overall, it's a clean truck.
Overall, >> you like you like this truck, Robert?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. Because you don't see them.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah. Robert likes it. This green light cuz this guy works on nothing but stuff like oh, you know, stuff like this.
>> Classics.
>> Classics. Um, my favorite part about this truck is the color.
>> Oh, yeah. Yeah.
>> It's a It's kind of like a They say it was an original white, but it don't don't look too white, but it looks cream.
>> Cream. Yeah. It's an ivory color. Yeah.
>> Did we Did we clean this up, too? This was pretty clean, too. Or it was already like that.
>> No, that was already.
>> Yeah, we didn't do that.
>> It just makes this makes this stand out more.
>> The ones on the bottom were done.
>> Okay.
>> Real nice. Real nice. So, big shout out to everybody that worked on the truck.
The guy that did the trim. Uh, >> you say you got Jose Velasquez.
>> Big shout out to Jose Velasquez. Did a badass job on this one. We tried to polish it by hand right there at the shop. We gave it a little bit of shot, but nothing like this. This is This is >> We pulled out the the big Yeah, we took them off. He took them home, polished it out.
>> I was going to take them off, too, but >> we ran out of time.
>> Yeah, it's not easy taking off.
>> No, I mean, we're we don't know what we're doing. I mean, we just do threw a little wheel polish on there, make it look nice, cuz it had a bunch of water marks >> and now no water marks.
>> Hey, when we wash this one, we we got to make sure we dry it. There's a there's some stuff uh it's called uh R renegade.
>> I think it's called Renegade. It's a spray that you put on there. Go.
>> You see them everywhere, >> brother.
>> There's another one here. Red and black one.
>> Ceramic coated. They can ceramic coat it, too, right?
>> Yeah. Yeah. You take it to a detail shop, ask them if they take a ceramic coat.
>> I got that way. You don't have to worry. But that other spray is I think it's called Renegade. You put on a down, you rub it and it >> you just keep on doing it and it won't get >> renegade. Is that the not the name of the the brand?
>> Oh, okay.
>> Okay. Now, we're going to do ceramic coating on this one. Just the paint is ready to go.
>> Ceramic coat the whole >> ceramic coat the whole truck. Um, you guys didn't buff the truck, right?
>> No. Okay. So, I can tell the guy the the detail guy to >> do a polish on it.
>> Do a polish on it. Yeah. Do the >> cuz most of the time they do a buff on it anyway before they do. the other day.
He does the clay and then he does the two two two steps or whatever on it and then sprays and it's ready to go after this pretty much. Uh B All right, guys. We're uh we're pretty much done here. We're not going to be taking this the Ford cuz it's raining by the shop.
Uh, you want to ride with the Costa? You want to put the car in the trailer, bro?
Hey, should we we we uh No, no, no. We can't. We can't.
