First Time Watching *CORALINE* Is A Disturbing MASTERPIECE!

[00:00:00]I was in the mood to rip uh an animated movie today. Coraline's always been at the top. When I looked at my list, like when it came to animated movies, this one just felt like like I'm kind of down to watch this right now. Dakota Fanning.

[00:00:13]I'm very familiar with El Fanning. I'm not as much familiar with Dakota Jennifer. That's that's um fairy godmother. I believe this is like I don't know if it's like stop motion, but it's like similar to Nightmare Before Christmas kind of is what I've assumed.

[00:00:28]I don't know really anything about the movie other than like I've just kind of seen the art style of it and I've heard great things of course which is why it's so highly on my list of course >> Jesus [music] >> I like the animation already like just this looks freaky whatever this thing is with the [ __ ] claw makes these dolls for they make a lot of them A.

There are moments where it feels like it is, but then there's also times where it feels like the frames are really really high. I don't have enough experience with stop motion to be able to tell the difference.

Like this is all just some enticing trap. Like the food is delicious and everything. Even they put a lot of detail into making the normal world look god the worst just to make everything in here in here look so goddamn good.

[00:14:48]God, it does that transition where it shows the contrast between that other world and then where she wakes up and how boring and dull it is. Like, I just I understand from the character's perspective like, god damn, take me back. I don't want to be here. This place sucks. But like I've I've been saying, I just I know that there's it is not as good as it looks. The grass is not greener.

Everyone's always thinking about her. Everyone's always trying to make her as happy as possible. Do everything the way she wants to do things. Selena Gomez realizes that that [ __ ] ain't tight. She don't [ __ ] with that. I feel like that's what this movie is going for. And it works definitely because it's from the perspective of this kid who feels like nobody's paying attention to her and she probably always thinks that things can be better. And they're doing a great job with it. Ju just through the use of color. I think alone really gets that across. Especially cuz she just moved to a new town where she doesn't know anybody. So just it's even more noticeable that her parents aren't paying any attention to her. Nobody's paying attention to her. She's just all alone.

[00:35:08]Honestly, that was a lot better than even I was expecting. Like, I heard good things, but I was expecting like something along the lines of like a Nightmare Before Christmas. And and I know like everyone loves A Nightmare Before Christmas. I'm not the biggest fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas.

[00:35:19]Maybe I I just need a rewatch. I haven't rewatched this since probably like middle school. It's been a really long time, but I was never the biggest fan of Nightmare Before Christmas, and I was expecting something along the lines of that. This was really [ __ ] good. I liked pretty much everything about this.

[00:35:32]I really, really enjoyed just the overall messaging and like following the perspective of this child who feels like she just gets absolutely no kind of attention from her parents or from really anybody. Nobody listens to her, nobody pays attention to her, nobody believes her in anything. She's completely moved across the country.

[00:35:47]She's got no friends. She's just left to deal with the boring, dull, drab existence that is this house and and everything around it and the the the rain. Like there's just nothing to do.

[00:35:57]She It's just boring. So, of course, when you're bored and and feeling completely neglected, you're you're going to as a kid, you're going to your mind is going to wander and think like, "What if like I I want to get this? I want to be paid more attention to. I want my parents to love me this way. I want to do this with them. I want them to do this." And I can definitely understand that perspective, but at the same time, because I'm watching this at a much older age, right? Right? Like I wonder how I would have perceived it when I was younger, but I'm watching this as a grown-up and it's just like it's so obvious from the jump. What we see of her parents is them working.

[00:36:24]They're working hard to make money. Are they neglecting her a little bit?

[00:36:28]Probably. Maybe a little bit. But on their faces and their bodies and their mannerisms. You can see that they are completely sacrificing themselves.

[00:36:34]They're sacrificing their mind and their body to be able to put their family in a position that they can give her what she wants and give her the life that she wants. just seeing her dad and seeing how like slumped over and tired his his glasses are [ __ ] up. His he he he looks sickly. Just for the end of the movie to be able to like it it's something as small as giving her the gift of the gloves that she was looking at earlier in the store while her mom was looking at the uniforms and stuff like that. It's like clearly she was paying attention to that and she saw that her kid wanted those and I think it's just it's really it's an important message for a kid to learn and the grass ain't always greener on the other side.

[00:37:06]like she got too much attention. She got too loved. And that [ __ ] won't it was not tight. The animation was obviously fantastic. It looked like real stop motion. I can't lie. I I don't know.

[00:37:16]There were times where it felt like it was computer animated, but most of the time like I I could feel like it was genuinely really stop motion animated.

[00:37:24]Like there was ways that I was seeing like she when she was laying down and the blanket would just be like moving around her. And like if you're computer animating, I don't see why you would have the blanket moving the way that it would. But if you're stopotioning it, like I I would completely understand it.

[00:37:36]I'm very interested to find out. But I absolutely loved it. I feel like it added so much to the personality and to the emotion of these characters. The character designs I absolutely loved. I absolutely loved like the blue and yellow and and just the very colorful scheme to Coraline's character. The character design of the other mother was absolutely horrendously terrifying and also hot at the same time. I can't really describe it. I thought the vocal performances were incredible. I absolutely loved Dakota Fanning. Keith David was a he was an incredible surprise cuz I caught Dakota Fanning's name. I caught uh Jennifer Sanders name in the beginning as well, but I don't think did they even show Keith David's name in the beginning? I don't remember if they did. I didn't catch it. So hearing his voice was definitely a surprise and I thought it really matched that character like the character of a black cat so well. And I thought he was he's probably honestly he was my favorite performance. I thought the most funny performance was definitely from Jennifer Sanders with the I don't know if she was playing both. What were their names? Angie and Miriam. Miriam for sure. I I don't know if she was playing both, but she was definitely playing one of them. Those two characters were funny as [ __ ] Like just so exaggerated, and I loved it. Wybornne was also a really fun character. I really liked the way that they animated him with like the, you know, the the the head movements and stuff like that. There was that moment at the end there where he already had his head tilted and the cat mimicked him and then Coraline mimicked the cat. And I thought that that was really fun. That was really cute. This was such a just a personalityfilled movie. So much fun.

[00:38:55]Like this movie is art. Like this movie is uh you know basically two hours of just watching a painting a a moving painting and I absolutely loved it. I can only imagine that this has got to be like a Halloween staple. Like this is definitely Halloween coded. If I knew how perfect it would be for Halloween. I would have timed this more and watched it in October. But I would definitely be interested in re-watching it on my own time come October and kind of just really feeling the vibes hit me. And I think that would do really well. That would add a lot. That was Coraline, guys. That was fantastic. That was a really, really, really fun animated movie. I'm glad I chose this one. I'm glad to have finally seen it and really like gotten to know what it's about because I've only ever known it's like, "Oh, is this Nightmare Before Christmas movie?" That's what I kind of always got from it. Thinking it was like a a Tim Burton or Gamro Del Toro type of thing.
