Man sought after Queens house explodes, injuring 11Añadido:
talking about it all morning long. A massive explosion [music] um and fire at a home in Queens and the details are really haunting. Um it started out as a 911 call for a domestic dispute and [music] it quickly turned into much more uh when that home exploded, injuring eight police officers, some even blown off their feet.
>> It felt like all morning long the details kept getting worse and [music] worse and worse as they've been coming out. This is near the intersection of 130th Street and 109th Avenue in South Ozone [music] Park. It is still obviously a very active scene. Multiple agencies responding to this. So, let's get to Eyewitness News reporter Ja Patel. You've been keeping us updated all morning long. What's the latest, Ja?
>> Good morning. Well, we know that officers were called out for a domestic dispute. suspect was armed with a knife.
And when officers were trying to make contact with that suspect, the house literally exploded and a sergeant and seven officers were just hit with that direct impact from the explosion. They were knocked off their feet. They were slammed into a fence nearby. So this morning, officials say those officers are just very lucky to be alive. And if you look behind me, you can see that this is still a very active scene. Hours and hours later, you can see heavy machinery has been brought in as this investigation continues because the suspect still hasn't been found this morning. I want you to take a look at the video from earlier that just shows how intense this fire was. This is a fifth alarm fire here on 130th Street.
And just before 3 this morning, officers were responding to a 911 call placed by a woman inside of the home. and she said her husband arrived at their home intoxicated, armed with a knife, and there was a smell of gas in the home.
Her husband has been identified this morning as 50-year-old Enroop Paris. And he was in the basement apartment of the home where his wife, daughter, and two grandchildren live. And police say that video actually shows him carrying two garbage bags filled with canisters containing an unknown substance. He forced his way into that basement apartment by pushing the air conditioning unit. And once he was inside, the wife, daughter, and the two grandchildren managed to run away, but his wife gave officers the key to get into that basement apartment. And when those officers tried to get in, that's when the explosion happened. We know a sergeant and seven officers were injured. Also, 11 people living inside of the home in various different apartments were able to safely get out miraculously, but three residents were injured. in Paris still has not been accounted for this morning and officials share just how dangerous this situation was.
>> Our officers were at the front door of the resident attempting to enter when suddenly a massive fiery explosion erupted at 2:57 a.m. The officers were violently and multiple officer were thrown off their feet with some being launched into gates at the front of the residence. There are three expired order protection against Mr. Pasaram. The most recent one expired in 2024. All three of them were filed with one relative.
We know at least 16 people have been displaced. Uh the Red Cross is here on scene trying to help those 16 people, but again it is just miraculous that no one was seriously injured. Again, Paris still has not been accounted for. It's very possible that his body may be in the basement here, but that is not confirmed. And this was just a very tough fire to battle for firefighters this morning because this was a gas-fed fire. So, we had uh National Grid, we had Coned on scene here. They had to literally dig up the ground so they could cap the gas so that they could actually make their way inside and investigate what exactly happened. This is still a very fluid situation, an active investigation, and we are told that fire crews will be here for the remainder of the day as this investigation continues. So, we'll continue to stay on top of this story for you.
