What If Naruto Wasn't Alone?Added:
Naruto being the only Genturiki in Konoha gave him a unique backstory that nobody could really relate to. He was alone for the large majority of his early life. This is where many of the tragedies of Naruto occur. But what if he wasn't alone? What if he had some people to bond with from the very start?
What if there were others who were living a similar life? What if there were people that he could share his life experience with? That's what I want to focus on today. So, grab your favorite tailed beast plush and sit right back.
We are about to dive in. But first, this message is sponsored by Raycon. I cannot get enough of this beautiful spring weather. By now, I'm sure you already know the story of Naruto, the tragedy that was his birth, how he came into the world screaming and crying, and how his parents were taken out of this world by forces beyond the village. How agreed and lust for power stole away the innocence of one so small and helpless.
This story remains accurate. Naruto was turned into the Ninetales Genturiki. But what you don't realize yet is that he is not the only story here. Years ago, when Kakashi was very young, he lost the boy he would have called his best friend.
And he lost the girl whom that best friend loved. Something neither Kakashi nor that supposedly dead best friend could forgive Kakashi for. The death of this friend occurred in the Hidden Leaf when Reed Nohara, who at the time was unaware of her status as Gingeri, accidentally released the Three Tales into the village, dying in the process.
Thankfully, the leaf managed to seal the three tales up and upon doing so retained control over it. This had been a big risk for the hidden mist to take one of their strongest weapons and put it in an enemy village only for it to fail and be lost to them. Further yet, Konoha now had a grudge against them, which saw reprisal and a longer spanning war. The third Shinobi World War extended even longer than originally it would have. Konoha now had two chakra beasts. The one they had always had and one that they retained control of as spoils of war. But it didn't end there.
Under a hidden operation, Konoha managed to send a division of Uchia led by Fugaku himself into battle against the village hidden in the clouds where they proceeded to find, defeat, and strip their ginger of the two tales. Bringing the spoils of war back home with them.
They were rewarded with the chance to host the two tales as the Uchiah. Fugaku gave this honor to his secondborn son, Sasuke. Matatabi was sealed within his own infant in hopes of making Fugaku's two sons the strongest Uchiah to ever live. Perhaps the strongest Shinobi to ever exist. And Konoha accepted this.
And as for the three tales, Isobu, fate would have it fall into the hands of a baby girl whose name was Sakura Haruno.
All of this explains how our heroes obtained the power of the tailed beasts.
For the most part, these three children were uninfluenced by the tailed beasts.
But the same is not true of the people around them. You see, with the ninetailes breaking out as Naruto was born and the three tales attack only just prior to that, Konoha was a little shaken by all these tailed beasts, and fears began to circulate, especially with the appearance of the Sharinggon in the eye of the Ninetailes. This caused, as I'm sure you remember, the Uchia to begin to be pushed out of the village, and they weren't happy about this, but tensions rose far more quickly and harshly. You see, it was believed that the Uchiah had misused the Ninetailes with their sharing and had planned to use it to destroy Konoha and take over.
There was no proof beyond circumstantial evidence. But military leaders do not work like a court might. There is no innocent until proven guilty. The only thing they thought about were the risks existing and what needed to be done to best protect the people. The Uchiah were currently in control of a tailed beast of their own. Fugaku's own son was the genturi of the two tales. This in essence made the Uchia under Fugaku a world superpower. Now of course the Uchia had nothing to do with what happened on that October night and were merely the ones blamed for it. But sometimes through fear one can create a self-fulfilling prophecy. The Uchiah knew that they were in a precarious position. And though the higher level tensions had left Fugaku speaking more deeply with the Konoha Council, their fears were not alleviated. And that meant that Fugaku's fears were also increased. Itachi remembered watching his father in his office, seemingly crying over reports, the stress and strain getting to him. You see, Fugaku knew that the Uchiah were now considered a threat to Konoha. And knowing how these things worked, this meant that the Uchiah were very possibly on the chopping block. What was the alternative, though? The only way to remove themselves from Konoha's sights was to give up Sasuke. To stand and watch as the village killed his son, tearing the chakra monster from the boy, and watching him shiver to death in the cold of his own body without that warming flame that he'd come to rely upon. Fugaku was caught between his duty to his clan, his duty to his village, and his duty to his son. The three sides of him, the military leader, community leader, and father all disagreed with each other. But the one thing they could agree on was that the Uchiah were in hot water, which was why he was crying now.
He needed to find a way out of this. He needed to find a way quickly. Fugaku made the decision that he would not let them take away his child. He wouldn't let them kill his son. He wouldn't let them kill his clan. And he wouldn't let his village be destroyed either by the greed of various people on the council.
In this way, Fugaku felt that he was saving his village. Saving his people.
This was the only reasoning he could use to justify his next actions. And so on a very particular night, the people were startled when the two tales was released. What was to be a bloodless coup erupted into infighting and civil war. Most villagers ran for cover, trying to get to the shelter as fast as possible, including Naruto, who hid in the corner, away from anyone and everyone, out of sight and out of mind, keeping to himself for fear of what the villagers might do to him. Now, it should be known that in this world, the reason why Naruto is hated is known to him. With so many Gin Churiki running around, it's not like the village can necessarily keep this a secret. There's a good chance that they would all learn this, especially with Sasuke having been told all this information and being within arms length of Naruto and Sakura.
So, they found it best to instead prepare the three with knowledge beforehand so they wouldn't have that mental shock that would risk the seal breaking. But right now, Naruto was afraid. It was because he knew what he was that he was scared because he knew that if the two tales was rampaging, they might try to kill Naruto too for what he was. Sakura was, as of right now, being guarded fiercely by her parents as others were gathered around, blaming all of their life troubles upon the gentury of the village. Sakura was crying behind her parents as all of this was happening. It was because of this that Naruto snuck around the side, getting behind her parents as they argued with the others and reached out his hand to her. She looked up at him from her tears and saw his hand. She took it. Naruto snuck her away and let her sit in his hiding spot where nobody would find them. First time? He asked.
She looked up at him with a sorrowful curiosity. He then spoke. Look, people are mean. They don't understand us, which is why they're like they are.
They're scared of us. And because they're scared, they try to push us out of their lives to feel safe. They're afraid that we'll do what the Uchia are doing above with Sasuke. But we would never do it. Sakura said, "They don't know that, though, so they're scared.
Please try not to blame them. I've been in the position Sasuke is in right now.
I mean, I don't remember it, but the Ninetailes in me rampaged once, and a lot of people died. They got scarred by tailed beasts. Even the one in you rampaged. All three of us have that in common. Our beasts have killed people and those people are afraid of it. That doesn't mean we're bad people. It just means that they're afraid of being killed too if it happens again. But we didn't mean to do this stuff, Sakura said. Naruto shook his head. We didn't.
People used us, much like how people are using Sasuke now, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened. We know we would never willingly let these beasts out, but others around us who hate the village might. Why do we have to be this way? What did we do to deserve being turned into these monsters? Naruto looked down as he had in times asked himself the same question. He recalled the conversation he had with Hirozen a while ago that sounded just like this.
As they sat around a fire eating fish and telling stories, Naruto recalled this as being one of the best times of his life, but it was tinged with a bit of melancholy. "What's the matter?"
"You've gone quiet," Hisen had asked Naruto. The boy was reflecting on the things he'd experienced to this point.
The way people treated him, his life as it was. Why did I have to be made into this? He asked. Why did I have to be turned into this monster? People hate me for it. Why? Hi took a deep breath as his face turned dark. He spoke. When you were born, the Ninetailes escaped and we had nobody to seal it into at the time.
Your parents were dying and the only chance they had was to seal it into you.
I'm sorry, Naruto. The reason why you are what you are now is because of necessity. Naruto looked down sorrowfully. The words Hisin said next brought him comfort. It seems like a curse, but it's a blessing. Not for you, but the people around you. They don't understand you, but you carry on your shoulders a responsibility. Your suffering has a purpose. And that purpose is not for yourself. It's for everyone else around you. He said, "All of the pain you feel is proof of the love in your heart. You suffer for the people who hate you because you love them. It's the same reason why no matter what they do to you, you will never let the tailed beast inside of you out and you're willing to suffer to protect them. Sakura seemed hardly helped by this. She kept crying, and so Naruto did the only thing he could think to do, which was sit beside her and pull her into his arms. All the while, the parents had finally broken free and were frantically searching for their daughter. That was until Mebuki found her with Naruto in this little corner.
She motioned her husband over to see it.
And like Tushisa guarding the two from all harm, they sat down and kept their eyes on the crowd. All the while outside, Sasuke was in the midst of a dream, more like a nightmare. He saw crimson skies, and his feet were muddied and marred in a strange substance that seemed to stain the soles of his feet crimson. He realized he was standing above the village, but below him was an empty sound, the sound of wind, and the sight of bodies barely visible above the liquid. that he was traing through. For a child no older than six, this is a terrifying concept. A hellish reality, a nightmare he couldn't wake up from. And what's worse, his own father had done this to him. Sasuke was too young to understand. And the guilt in Fugaku's heart was great. But the only alternative to this was his son's death.
Either that or the death of all Uchiah.
But then again, I guess none of that really mattered now. Not with the Uchiah having been killed in combat against the forces of Konoha. This bloodless coup had turned into a bloodbath. And though it seemed that the Uchia had the advantage, the truth was they had no clue the sorts of things Konoha had been working on behind the scenes. The way that they'd been integrating Kekenai into their greatest warriors. They could have never predicted Yamato, who was the main threat against Sasuke due to possessing a small fraction of Hashiama Senju's power. Besides that, Konoha had been experimenting with strange summons and various forbidden techniques which the Uchiah simply weren't prepared for or able to withstand. The sad truth was the Uchia were all killed. Maybe they didn't have to be. And surely Hien didn't want it to be so. But Danzo refused to allow the Uchia to have their way with the village and walk away scot-free. And at last, Sasuke was the only one who remained. He was freed from his father's control when Fugaku fell on a route Shinobi's blade. And after Sasuke was freed from his grasp, Yamato utilized his wood release to calm Matabi down, which in return transformed Sasuke back into his regular form. Danzo had considered having Sasuke killed as well and just taking the two tales away.
After all, how could anyone have known?
For all they knew, Sasuke was just killed by the transformation and saw the two tales set free. But no, that's when Kakashi Hate, a member of the Onbu, a loyalist to Hirozen, stepped in to protect the boy and bring him back to the Hokag. Hi to inform Sasuke that the entire Uchiah clan was killed, that he was the last one. This news hit Sasuke like a truck. This was to the point that for the next few weeks, they had to keep him in a special room that was covered from floor to ceiling in ceiling formula. At the age of five, Sasuke had lost everything, his family, his innocence, and had been left with a legacy that would follow him for his whole life. With whatever Hisin could get out of Sasuke, he came to the realization that Sasuke was not culpable in the crimes committed against the village, and as such had no legitimate reason to keep him locked away. Hi tried to help Sasuke get set up in an apartment by himself. But can you really expect something like this to go smoothly? Being alone, being scared, not knowing how to survive on your own.
Sasuke's life was in shambles, and he couldn't ask a neighbor or any adults he met for help because they all blamed him for the most recent attack where many a person had died. Even at the academy, kids who had witnessed the attack now kept as clear from Sasuke as possible.
Fears abounded that he might lose control again and kill people. This left Sasuke very alone and much of the class unable to focus during the school period. This was until a hand reached out for Sasuke. That hand was attached to a smile. The smile on a face that understood the face of a boy named Naruto. Sasuke had known Naruto for a bit. He had seen him, heard him, watched other kids bully him, heard his father mention him and Sakura as two other Ginguraki. This hand took Sasuke's and held it tightly. "Hi, Sasuke," Naruto said with a smile. "I'm so glad you're back in school with us," he said. Sasuke questioned if this were real or if Naruto were just trying to befriend something that scared him in hopes of surviving it. Some children did that.
When faced with something that terrified them, they tried to get closer to it instead of farther, believing they'd be safer if they made friends with that thing. But this wasn't true for Naruto.
He sat with Sasuke on the playground all by himself. "I'm a Ginger Ricky, too," he said. "When I was born, my monster got out, and a lot of people were killed by it, including my parents. People have hated me ever since. I was too young to remember my parents. So, I suppose it's not fair for me to compare my suffering to yours. But I do understand your pain.
I suppose I just want you to know that you're going to be okay. That you're not all by yourself. I know what you're feeling, Sasuke, and I want to be with you while you recover. Is that okay?
Sasuke nodded because that's all he could muster. He had barely spoken since that night. The only words he had said had been to Hirozen in regards to his own experience and hand in the coup. At this point, the reason why Sasuke couldn't speak, though, was because he was in shock. He was in awe of Naruto.
Naruto's kindness and love toward him had left him speechless, nearly on the verge of tears. Naruto sat with Sasuke all day, whether at lunch, in class, or on the playground. No matter where Sasuke was, Naruto was there, too. He even went so far as to go home with Sasuke. He left Sasuke there for a bit to go to his home and grab some things before returning for an extended sleepover. Naruto knew how bad it was getting used to a new apartment, especially when you were all by yourself. There was no feeling of safety there and it made you scared to sleep.
He wanted Sasuke to get used to this new feeling by staying with a friend. And that's what Naruto was. Naruto was going to be the emotional anchor and the bringer of good memories that would help Sasuke get more comfortable in this place. Naruto would be upbeat and cheerful even when Sasuke wasn't and even when Naruto himself didn't feel like it. He would show Sasuke how to cook his own food, showing him how to read the instructions and how to perform the steps on it. So many types of food have easy to follow steps on the back.
And if you do it enough, you'll realize everything can be that way, he said. He started small with ramen noodles before moving up to mac and cheese. Then he showed him how to make a cheese sandwich and other things as well. Sasuke began to soak it all up. Naruto then showed Sasuke how to clean, how to sweep and mop, how to clean a bathroom, and how to set up using a calendar to remember what needed to be done on any particular day.
Last but not least, he showed Sasuke how to balance a checkbook and how to pay his expenses. I had to learn these things, too. I learned it all a long time ago. By the time I could read, I knew how to balance a checkbook. These are practical skills you need to know to be able to survive in the world by yourself, Naruto said. The good news is is that it's really easy to learn. And so many things you have to do in life come with instructions or give you access to people who can help you understand. That's why I think one of the most powerful skills someone can learn is how to follow instructions. The other most powerful skills someone can learn is how to ask questions. What if people think I'm stupid for asking?
Sasuke asked. People will have plenty of other opportunities to think you're stupid. What matters most is that you ask the questions for things you need to know. If you don't know something, ask a question. And if you don't get a good answer you can understand, something called the internet exists. Go on there and ask the question and it'll make it really easy to understand. In the day and age we live in, all the info we could ever possibly need is right at the tip of our fingers. So long as you get real information from a trusted source, you can do almost anything, including living by yourself. That's why I say asking questions and reading instructions are the most powerful skills one can have because all other practical skills can be learned using them. It's like having the ability to download more skills with just this. How can I properly learn these skills?
Sasuke asked. It's very simple. For people like me with ADHD, we compulsively skip important information as we try and fail to speedread. It's a disability that makes focusing hard, which in turn makes these skills harder to learn. But there are tricks we can use to get around them. The first step is to break large tasks down into smaller steps. This is perfect for instruction reading as that generally does it for you. The issue with that is, at least for me, if I can see the full panel of instructions, I just jump to the end. Because my brain can't focus well, I have to do these tricks to keep myself going properly. How do you do it?
Sasuke asked. Externalizing my brain, Naruto said. Basically, I write things down that I want to remember, especially when it comes to instructions. Something I can come back to later and review.
Sort of like taking notes in school when the teacher's talking. And as for the instructions on the box, for me to stop myself from skipping to the end, I merely stop, cover the other instructions and read it one step at a time. If I can't repeat it back to myself later, then I didn't technically read it. I should start again. Another thing is to prepare everything before I start. I read the instructions and get the ingredients ready before I even begin to cook. I keep ingredients I haven't used on the left and then move them to the right as I use them.
Further, I keep the instructions nearby so I know just how much or when to add the next ingredient. Everything goes on a notepad. Naruto further said, "If you have a pen and paper, that's great, but here's a secret." He sort of tried to whisper the next stuff into Sasuke's ear. Try to convince Hisen to get you some sort of device, like one of those smartphones or whatever. Always keep a notepad app open on it, and then as things come along for you to focus on, use that pad to externalize your thoughts and create your own instructions. Since our minds go everywhere and can't remember Jack's squat, we have to externalize our brains to put on more reliable tools. Sasuke seemed a little pale listening to it all. It's simpler than it seems. The fact that I just went on a tangent a second ago was actually my ADHD," Naruto said with a nervous smile. "But look, if I can literally go crazy with this stuff for a moment right in front of you, and I can still survive, then you can too," he said. "All you have to do is know when you need to pay attention and have the tools and tricks ready to ensure that you do pay attention. It's not really something to be ashamed of. Our brains process things differently.
Unlike most people, we don't really have trains of thought. We've got spiderw webs. That doesn't make us stupid. If anything, it makes us smart. We just don't know how to use the smart right.
We've got the goods. We just lack execution. But there's all these cool tricks for it. So, creating and setting up systems to help you focus can help.
Organization is key. Eventually, you'll learn how to compartmentalize this information so you'll no longer need instructions. You know what happens when you no longer need instructions? It becomes muscle memory, meaning you can get it done right, even when your brain is goofing off. Sasuke nodded. Naruto continued, "I once told myself I was going to make a bowl of ramen from a bag, but I was busy thinking about everything I learned from the academy that day, and I accidentally made mac and cheese instead. It was the best mac and cheese I ever had, too. Wasn't the end goal, but it was one heck of a meal nonetheless." "Nar, you're doing it again," Sasuke said. Naruto caught himself. "I'm not a very good teacher, am I? At least I can serve as a sort of example. And together, Naruto and Sasuke learned the sorts of things that Sasuke would need to know to survive. The two developed a close friendship, and to some degree, Naruto actually considered just moving in with Sasuke full-time.
But no, he resisted that urge. The reason being that for the first week, while Sasuke seemed to be battling depression, as Naruto's influence brightened his mood, Sasuke had a certain fire in his eye, a need to know that he was able to survive on his own.
and that came in the form of needing Naruto to go home after the second week.
Sasuke approached Naruto and actually asked if he could try to live by himself for a little while. Naruto smiled and nodded. "I need to go home and tend to my own apartment anyway," Naruto said.
"But know that I'll always be nearby."
He then opened a book sitting next to Sasuke's telephone and began to write down his information within his name, address, and phone number.
"Eternalization of the brain," Naruto said as he added this information.
Sasuke smiled and as Naruto went to leave, he stopped him for a moment.
Naruto looked back to see what was up, only to be suddenly embraced in a tight hug. Promise you'll come back and we can have more sleepovers. Naruto chuckled.
How about this? Every other week, I'll show up. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 3-day weekends. Sound good?
Sasuke nodded. Naruto then went home to let Sasuke try his best to live on his own. Naruto had already helped him by breaking down every overwhelming task into a small list of things that Sasuke needed to do to learn them. That being to stop, read instructions, and ask for more information. And honestly, this worked perfectly well with the Shinobi lifestyle. After all, they were intel gatherers, and this practical skill meshed so perfectly with their world that it slowly felt like second nature.
Sasuke quickly began to grow more independent and capable, something Hien was glad to see. Looking to Naruto, he began to believe that the boy had a natural talent with others. His heart was wide open and understanding. Slow to anger, quick to protect, and easy to explain. Honestly speaking, he had the mentality of an older brother, and that almost seemed like the perfect mentality for one who might find their passion helping others to live. "Nar might be the one to replace me, not as Hokag, but as head of housing for orphan children," Hiin said to himself. After this, Sasuke's life began to improve by leaps and bounds. His demeanor was brighter.
To Sasuke, the sky was bluer, the grass was greener, the sun was brighter, and the future was looking up. This didn't mean he wasn't avoided in school, but it did mean that he had far less care. He was learning how to properly take notes when people were talking. He ended up actually taking a course in shorthand, which he believed would be perfect for intel gathering in the field, even better if it was in a style unique to Konoha that the enemy couldn't read.
Naruto wasn't so caught up in that. What it boiled down to for Naruto was just telling people to slow the heck down and let him write what he wanted to remember. In most cases, the very act of writing it down was enough to allow him to remember without needing to look.
Anyway, as it challenged his overactive brain to focus on the instructions, all while his hands were busy tending to something else. These were the differences with how Naruto and Sasuke took notes. Naruto just used angabanga phrases and Sasuke began dabbling in shortorthhand. Sakura, on the other hand, was the one over here with enough skill and precision to be able to write whole sentences in cursive without even looking down. And it was still legible, too. Well, to people who understood cursive, that is. Sakura was just another sort entirely. She had a particular set of skills that made her own management of ADHD a lot easier to handle. She was naturally gifted and intelligent, so having an overactive mind for her felt par for the course.
Having skills to allow her to properly take care of herself this way was easy to do because of this sort of intelligence. Speaking of Sakura, she'd begin to notice that Naruto and Sasuke were hanging out more with each other than before, and her curiosity got the better of her. She was interested in whatever thing they had going on, so she swooped in and flatly asked them what was up. Naruto told her that him and Sasuke had been getting along because they had a lot in common. Sakura asked what things they had in common, and Naruto began to explain. Well, we're both orphans, for instance. We're both ginger and we both have ADHD. Sakura thought about it. I checked two of those boxes. Can I still join the club? She asked with a smile. Naruto smiled back.
Sure, beans. Grab a seat. And this was how they became a single unit.
Sleepovers got a lot more exciting when Sakura was around, especially if chocolate was present. Sakura never let anyone know that she had a little bit of a sugar dependency. All right, a lot. A bit of a sugar dependency. She loved getting that sugar in to hit those dopamine levels her brain so craved. And it became addicting. She was bouncing off the walls, excited for about three hours straight before immediately conking out, leaving Naruto and Sasuke traumatized by Hurricane Sakura's aftermath. This was a secret neither of them were aware Sakura possessed. But a sugar holic indeed is what Sakura was, and how her parents handled her doing this every night was a question. There was the distinct possibility she didn't get to do this every night, which is why it happened so bad at Sasuke's apartment. That's the reason Naruto and Sasuke decided to start spending the night at her house. Not only did it mean that they had parental figures, but it ensured Sakura didn't stand out on the balcony howling like a wolf, setting off the whole neighborhood's animals. Yeah, these were the golden days for what would soon become Team 7. But eventually, they began to grow as kids do. each one becoming more independent and capable in their own right until eventually they graduated from the academy about 5 years after their friendship officially started. During that time, their bonds only got closer.
Naruto and Sasuke began to realize that they were forming their own little family with Sakura, becoming each other's siblings. And by the time they joined Team 7, they finally had a parental figure as well. Things were good for them, and they were only looking like they would get better.
Honestly, this is one that I've been thinking about writing for a while. Kind of similar to what if all of Team 7 had tailed beasts, but this time focusing on them as people instead of the beasts themselves. Not to mention that I got to add in a little ADHD rep. It is a blessing and a curse. Man, it can make life hard, but it also makes things a lot of fun. Or is that just me? People think I'm nuts sometimes because I focus best with three tabs open. One with a picture-inpicture video, another with whatever music I'm listening to blasting, and the third is where I type all while that plays. What about you? Do you have ADHD? Do you know someone who does? Do you have any tips or tricks that might help other people who are struggling? Make sure you put those down in the comments. Anyway, make sure you like, subscribe, and ring that bell so you don't miss any videos like this. And until next time, peace out.
