Hantavirus transmission can occur through close contact with infected individuals, even in enclosed spaces like airplanes, as demonstrated by a confirmed case where a French national contracted the virus after sharing a seat with an infected passenger; the virus has an 8-week incubation period, varies in severity among individuals, and can spread through multiple vectors including birds and rats, making contact tracing and isolation critical for outbreak control.

hantavirus virus update " spread outside of ship" #Orthohantavirus #hantavirus #outbreakAdded:
Ladies and gentlemen, I thought I'd jump back on here real quick.
Um I was getting ready to lay down and I saw something pop up my feed.
There has been a confirmed spread of the hantavirus outside of the ship.
Um A French naturalist A French national, sorry.
He was on board the cruise liner was reportedly reportedly contact contracted the hantavirus after taking a flight with an infected passenger.
Let that sink in.
If that individual was able to contract the hantavirus on the plane, then that means other people on the plane may have contracted it, too.
You know, how many bathrooms are on the plane?
Person serving them food, you know, she goes around or he goes around and I'm just saying is if it's spreading that easy, if you can sit beside somebody and it spreads that easy, then yeah, I think we got a problem. I think we got a huge problem.
No, this was on the freaking plane.
This was a French national.
He was sharing a seat beside one of the infected um passengers. He wasn't on the plane. I mean, he wasn't on the cruise ship.
This guy was coming back from from disembarking and got infected from this this this passenger.
>> [clears throat] >> This is why there needed to be contact tracing and they needed to have, you know, kept these people aside, you know, until we knew they were okay.
Yeah, off the boat. Now, we're talking off the boat here. So, off the boat spread on a plane full of people.
Um You know, I mean, because because because because we're talking 8 weeks here.
A max 8 weeks, you know, everyone's immune system is different.
It's widely different.
You know, mine is, yours is. I mean, like when I got the COVID and whatnot, I mean, I'd get sick. I mean, I wasn't in the hospital or anything, but there's people I knew that went to the hospital.
I mean, you know, I don't know.
But, with this, I mean, you could be one of the lucky ones, but you can still spread it.
And still send it out there.
Mhm.
No, sir, this is bad.
When I saw this, I knew it was bad.
I do. I do. I mean, Ebola, though, like I said before, it's kind of it's more like a dumb virus.
>> [clears throat] >> It takes um a lot of touching and feeling to kind of like spread it. Um You know, I'm sure that person was right up on that individual, but yeah, like Ebola and hemorrhagic fever, they're they're both they're they're they're they're both dumb viruses unless you're like in the course of like the fluids or whatever.
And I mean, the reason why Ebola spreads so rapidly in Africa is because they have their their funeral ceremonies.
Um they tend to kiss dead when they're when when they're after they pass away.
Doctor said his insides were like soup. Yeah, yeah, I know. That's the hemorrhagic fever. That was the Marburg one.
Yeah, that's that's some that was some crazy stuff.
Scary stuff. I mean, we always wondered what Marburg and rabies would be like, but I don't know.
Um we do have we do have some uh confirmation on who patient zero was.
I'm going to throw it on the screen real quick.
Uh >> [groaning] >> Now, this is patient zero right here.
This is the bird watcher.
Um Leo I can't pronounce that name. Anyway, he was 70 years old. Him and his wife were the both of the ones that died to begin with.
Now, here's the thing. They were out here in this trashy with these birds.
Now, birds can trans uh you know ooh we get the flu from the birds mostly.
Um and if the rats and stuff are out here and the birds are out here, is it possible for the birds to carry the hanta virus? See, I don't know about that part.
I mean, because you know, birds they fly across the globe.
And if this stuff is spreading and they're able to carry it then somehow someway, I mean, at least maybe it enters the system or whatever. I mean, this could be another vector for the hanta virus to spread.
I don't know. I'm just saying that that crossed my mind when I saw this. I'm like, yeah, bird watcher, you know, then then then I saw the pictures and I'm like, oh well, if they caught that there, then there's a chance that those birds have come in contact with the same thing they come in contact with. Um But it says right here, it says before boarding uh they were on a 5-month trip in South America. So, they may have not even caught it there. I mean, if it's eight week takes eight weeks to to to to come about, I mean, they could have been you know infected 5 or 6 weeks ago and then got on the ship and then that's when they got sick and they and they died.
I mean So, it's hard to say. I mean, we don't know how rapidly this stuff has been spreading around, how it is still spreading around.
I I mean, we we're hearing the same thing on the news where things are, you know, like it gets quiet a little bit and then we'll start hearing rapid rapid fire cases and and whatnot.
>> [sighs] >> I don't I don't know. I don't know.
Um But yeah, I wanted to I wanted to jump on on here. I saw that. I wanted to throw it out there.
Um this is the hunt is on for a British guy who disembarked with a dead passenger.
Um There's another one a crew member that speaks out from hospital isolation. Let's see what he says.
Yeah, we're going to play it. Here we go.
I think we're going to play it.
Uh there's no sound.
That is not what we want to hear. All right, wait a minute.
Says he speaks out and I figured there'd be a video.
Oh my bad. I didn't see it.
I don't know if cruise ships are scary.
They are.
They look fun, but they're scary.
Um I know there was a video of one of the passengers talking.
I also got played real quick. Like Virgin flight, Virgin Atlantic.
Um That's another case. That's That's That's That's another outside contact. A Dutch flight attendant was hospitalized in Amsterdam.
She's been She's been suspected of carrying it. Now, she said she tested negative later, but she still got sick.
I don't know, y'all.
Uh-uh.
Bloody um No, yeah.
This is my side duty.
Uh it's only duty.
And one of my awesome duties.
So, the awesome duty is like Uh 500 duties.
And then you do not allow us to sleep.
And also Um We are not This is not allowed.
And I talked to my doctor tomorrow and asked him this.
So, the sickness is second in constant air.
Do you think he knew he was lying to him?
Or do you think he actually believed it?
Uh that's my question.
Did this guy actually believe he was believe that these people were not infectious or or anything? Uh I don't know. I mean, I can see you fearing that you might stir up everybody, but this is one of the guys I'm a little concerned about cuz he acts really bizarre.
But, um anyway, like I said, I thought I'd jump on the phone and say say it. Uh let you guys know I will be on tomorrow.
Hell, I might even be back on tonight again. Who knows? Anyway,
