Hypertension is the single largest population-level risk factor for atrial fibrillation, nearly doubling the risk in patients under 60, while alcohol consumption significantly increases AFib risk by 8% per standard drink, with binge drinking being a well-established trigger, particularly in younger demographics.

Hypertension & Alcohol Afib Risk Factors ExplainedAñadido:
Number two, hypertension.
This carries the single highest population level risk for AFib of any factor we know. And in patients under 60, a Korean cohort study found hypertension nearly doubled their AFib risk. A bigger relative impact than in older adults. Millennials of younger Americans have uncontrolled blood pressure right now and don't know it.
Number three, alcohol. Every standard drink per day increases AFib risk by 8%.
At five drinks per day, that's a 47% higher risk. Binge drinking, which is common in younger demographics, is a well-established AFib trigger. And in one study of patients who developed AFib before age 45, moderate to heavy alcohol use was a leading cause in one in four cases.
