[00:00:23]>> Our reading from the Holy Gospel according to John 6:51 to 58.

[00:00:30]Jesus said to the Jews, "I am the living bread which has come down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever. And the bread that I shall give is my flesh for the life of the world."

[00:00:43]Then the Jews started arguing with one another.

[00:00:46]"How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"

[00:00:50]They said.

[00:00:52]Jesus replied, "I tell you most solemnly, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you will not have life in you.

[00:01:01]Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood has eternal life. And I shall raise him up on the last day.

[00:01:09]For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.

[00:01:13]He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I live in him.

[00:01:18]As I, who am sent by the living Father, myself draw life from the Father, so whoever eats me will draw life from me.

[00:01:27]This is the bread come down from heaven, not like the bread our ancestors eat.

[00:01:32]They are dead, but anyone who eats this bread will live forever."

[00:01:43]Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.

[00:01:59]When I read John Tauler consuming and being consumed I reflected on being [music] consumed.

[00:02:10]I now see that in the current reality experienced by many of us.

[00:02:15]We are being consumed.

[00:02:17]Not chewed up [music] and munched on by God.

[00:02:23]When we are painfully and continuously stripped of pride, self-absorption, old habits, thought patterns and behaviors.

[00:02:33]The dying of old self.

[00:02:37]When in times of trauma, doubt, confusion, uncertainty and waiting we are forced to depend on God alone and not cling stubbornly to self-reliance.

[00:02:51]In the hardships and trials [music] God uses to purify us. So Christ may live more fully in us and we in him.

[00:03:01]On this feast [music] of Corpus Christi in Tauler's words I pray for trustful and loving surrender to the Lord.

[00:03:11]The key in allowing ourselves to be consumed and more fully transformed by these God-ordained trials in our lives.

[00:03:20]Amen.

[00:03:25]>> [music] >> Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, it's now and ever shall be a world without end.
