After cold finish to May temperatures head up in the MaritimesAdded:
It's Monday, June 1st. I'm meteorologist Kayla Mitchell in the CTV News Atlantic Weather Center. Well, things a little bit improved for the Maritimes to start off the month of June. There's a fair bit more sunshine in the region for today. Temperatures in a lot of cases though are still a bit below average for the start of this month. We do have some cumulus clouds developing in the southwest of Nova Scotia. There will be a low chance of a couple pop-up showers with those as we make our way through Monday afternoon to Monday evening and a low chance that a few showers could develop in northern areas of New Brunswick. We do have parts of the region tonight that are still going to be on the chilly side and some frost advisories remain in effect for parts of the east of Nova Scotia where some low temperatures tonight may fall into range around 0 to 3°. Let's take a look at our forecast timeline. I mentioned a low chance of showers for a few areas. You can see that showing up here through these flecks of green around northern areas of New Brunswick as well as the interior of the southwest of Nova Scotia. As we move towards the mid to late evening hours, there will be a chance of some of those showers drifting a little bit further south in New Brunswick including potentially into around Miramichi, the Fredericton area or even McAdam and St. Stephen in the southwest of the province and a low chance of a few showers getting into parts of Prince Edward Island. During the overnight hours for the Maritimes, partly cloudy conditions and be a little bit of patchy fog and those chillier temperatures in the east of Nova Scotia where those frost advisories are in effect. That takes us into the forecast for Tuesday.
Mix of sun and cloud and scattered showers. But with the showers on Tuesday especially moving through the afternoon into the early evening, there is a risk of some small thunderstorms developing with them. So in general for the Maritimes on Tuesday, scattered showers with the risk of a thunderstorm.
Temperatures do start to come up in western areas of New Brunswick, low 20s.
That's about average for early June remaining still a bit below average for the remainder of the Maritimes. But that is the start of a trend of temperatures coming up in the region as we move a little bit later into this week. We still have what's left of that blocking pattern from last week set up over North America. It's creating some issues in some areas. Still some heat warnings out for parts of the prairies and now a very rainy situation in parts of Alberta.
Some rainfall totals 50 to 100 mm as they are stuck with a wet weather system on the backside of that block. Out here in the Maritimes, we're still waiting to shake the last of that chilly air, but that's going to be happening as we move towards a Wednesday, Thursday timeframe.
So, taking a look at the trend for temperatures around the provincial capitals in the Maritimes through this first part of June, you can see for Fredericton in New Brunswick, they're both rise to and then above average as we make our way towards Wednesday, Thursday of this week. Above average on Friday. Does cool on the weekend. Little low pressure system moving through with some rain and some showers before climbing again next week. For Halifax in Nova Scotia as well, the trend is upwards for temperatures moving into Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Little bit of a dip on the weekend with that low coming through with some rain and some showers and then once again climbing as we make our way through next week. And for Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island, temperatures headed up as we head towards Thursday and then cools on the weekend with that low moving through and then temperatures trend warmer again through the first part of next week.
