This video demonstrates the rate conversion method for solving Singapore PSLE math problems involving unit conversions and proportional reasoning. The method involves converting all quantities to a common unit, then using proportional relationships to find the desired value. In this example, Mrs. Lee paid $6.20 for 400g of ginger and 1.2kg (1200g) of onion, with a conversion rate of 320g onion = 100g ginger. The solution converts 1200g onion to 375g ginger, totaling 775g ginger, then calculates the cost per gram ($6.20 ÷ 775) and multiplies by 100 to find the cost of 100g ginger is $0.80.

2025 PSLE Math Paper 2 Question 6 Rate Hack #psle #math #singaporemath #ratehack WWW.MODELMETHOD.COMAdded:
Can you solve this Singapore math grade basics question in 3 minutes? This is an actual Singapore math grade basics PSL question in 2025. You can use the red head to solve this question. Mrs. Lee paid a total of $6.20.
So this is the total $6.20 for 400 g of ginger and 1.2 kg, which is 1,200 g of onion.
And we are going to convert everything to ginger because the final question is asking for 100 gram ginger. So the conversion rate is every 320 g of onion is equals to 100 g of ginger. So 1 g of onion will be from 320 to go to 1 g is divide by 320.
So the right side also divide by 320 to get 100 over 320 g of ginger. Next we'll convert 1 g to 1,200 g of onion. Which means that I need to take one multiply by 1,200.
Similarly, the right side also multiply by 1,200.
So, we should have 100 / 320 * 1,200 g equals to 375 g of ginger. So, this 1,200 g of onion is equals to 375 g of ginger. So in total 400 g plus 375 g equals to 775 g.
So this 775 g of ginger will cost a total of $6.20.
Then 1 g will be 775 divided by 775 to get 1 g. So the right side also divide by 775 we would have 6.20 / 775.
Then we want to calculate 100 g which means that to get from 1 to 100 we need to multiply by 100. Similarly the right side also multiply by 100. So 6.20 20 / 775 * 100 that will give us 0.80 or 80 cents or 100 g of ginger. Let me know what you think of this question and the next time you encounter such questions, ask yourself.
