Cockpit Preparation FinalAdded:
[Music] hey this video is dedicated to the cockpit preparation both the captain and first officer should perform the cockpit preparation in accordance with the defined panel scan sequence and task sharing the cockpit preparation can actually be split up into six distinct sections number one is the overhead panel number two Center instrument [Music] panel number three pedestal number four fmgs preparation then when both pil Pilots are seated number five glare Shield number six lateral console [Music] panels the captain will always perform steps 1 through six the first officer completes steps 3 through six on their respective side while having abbreviated versions of the captain's flows just like in the preliminary cockpit preparation as a warning do not not pressurize the hydraulic systems until clearance is obtained from ground Personnel now that we're familiar with the overall setup we will begin with the captain's cockpit preparation the first step of the captain's cockpit preparation is to set the cockpit lights next the atus is obtained and reviewed if a digital atus is available for the airport of departure you may obtain it via atsu or cpdlc videos are going to be done separately for these procedures after these two initial steps are done we will continue on to the overhead panel or step number one as we discussed previously as a general rule the captain will extinguish all white lights except those white lights in the maintenance panel note that during the scan sequence of the overhead panel the only Amber lights that should be illuminated are the generator fault lights or potentially also the pack fault lights if you're not using any air conditioning at the time then we will flow the overhead panel from left to right down to up starting with the oxygen panel verify crew Supply is on then the captain will perform a recorder test verify recorder Ground Control push button is on then ensure the parking brake is on set the loudspeaker volume knob off on both sides then set the a ACP interphone radio switch on both sides to interphone position release the interphone volume reception knob and turn it down to the minimum Volume last but not least press and hold the CVR test push button review the expanded on the right hand side to determine the different indications depending on your CVR model continue upward to the Evac panel verifying the captain and Purser Captain switch is in the captain position next we will flow all the way back down to the exterior Light Panel verify the strob switch is in the auto position the beacon switch is off the naven logo light is set as required depending on who the pilot flying will be for the leg since first officer will be the pilot flying we will set the naven logo light in the two position then verify the remaining exterior lights as required Wing Runway turnoff nose lights to off the landing lights to retracted then on the signs panel verify the seat belt switch is on only after fueling is complete the emergency exit light is set to armed and the no smoking light is set to auto please note that leaving the exit or no smoking selectors to the on position will prevent the charging of the emergency battery verify the probe and Window heat push button switches in the auto position on the cabin pressure panel verify the landing elevation knob is in the auto position on the air conditioning panel verify the Pack Flow selector is set as required we have three different settings low high and normal low will be selected on a 319 if your passenger occupancy is less than 138 passengers 320 less than 141 and 321 less than 168 high will be set for abnormally hot and CID conditions normal is for all other normal operating conditions now we will go up to the electric panel where the captain will perform the battery test select the electric push button on the ecam control panel push the battery one and two push button switches to off then back to the on position this action will initiate a charging cycle 10 seconds after setting the battery push button switches to on verify that the current charge of the battery is below 60 amps and [Music] decreasing next we will go to the fuel panel verify the fueled mode selector push button switches are in the auto position make sure that if you are refueling the fuel pumps remain in the off position [Music] next the captain performs an engine fire test for engines 1 and two just like we did on the Apu fire test verify prior to initiating the test that the engine fire push button switch is in and guarded that the agent one and two lights are off then push the engine one test push button you should be observing the following indications whenever you push and hold the test push button verify you hear continuous repetitive Chine the master warning lights will Flash the eam will display an engine one fire message all fire lights on the engine Master panel will come on the engine fire push button switch will come on red and the discharge and squip lights will illuminate as [Music] well after completing the fire test for engine number one we will do the exact same for engine number two start the test by pushing the test Bush button on the engine two fire panel check for all the previously described indications to finish off the center part of the overhead panel we will verify the audio switching selector is in the normal position now we will go to the lower right hand corner of the overhead panel to the ventilation panel here we verify all white lights are extinguished then then go all the way up to the third ACP to verify the PA knob is set to reception this will allow the flight attendant announcements to be recorded on the CVR to finish the overhead panel we will flow up to the maintenance panel and verify all white lights are extinguished after we're done with the overhead panel we will go to the center instrument panel we'll start with the Isis adjust the brightness indic at air speed altimeter readings altimeter settings and attitude display next we verify the clock is in GPS mode if GPS mode is providing us the incorrect date and time you would set it up as shown on the expanded section verify nose wheel steering is selected to on at the completion of the central instrument panel we will now flow down to the pedestal verify all rmps are on the green nav light is extinguished the select light is appropriate and the com frequencies are tuned correctly use ATC for VHF 1 and VHF 2 for all other frequencies next we would go to the ACP verify the interphone knob is out and at the appropriate volume verify the transmission reception of your VHF channels are verified lastly complete an HF check if required the fom has more details on doing an HF check and one of the main things to remember on this is to not do an HF check while refueling operations are in effect next we will flow all the way back up to the central portion of the pedestal to the switching panel verify all selectors are in the normal position on the engine panel verify the thrust levers are idle the engine Master switches are off and the engine mode selector is normal then flow down to the parking brake verify the accumulator pressure one more time make sure the parking brake handle is on and the brake pressure indicator is verified to be correct if the brakes are hot and chalks are in place you may set the parking brake off at this point at the bottom portion of the pedestal you have the gravity gear extension knob verify it is stowed then we will flow up to the right hand side of the pedestal starting with the ATC panel verify the ATC knob is on standby transponder code is set if you have the clearance already altitude reporting is on and ATC system is appropriate for whoever is going to fly the flight one if it's the captain two if it's the first officer verify your efb is [Music] initialized lastly if cpdlc is installed in the airplane clear the message record and complete the notification [Music] process once we're done with the pedestal we will go to step number four which is fmgc initialization and verification this step is not specifically addressed in this video but due to its length we've actually compiled a whole bunch of different videos and set them up together into an fmgc tutorial you may see it on another section of this website after the fmgc is initialized obtain and review the clearance instructions on how to obtain clearances via PDC and cpdlc are subjects of separate videos now that we've completed step number four we will go to step number five which begins when both flight crew members are seated adjust your seats seat belts harnesses Rudder pedals and armrests as necessary then we go to the glare shield on the ephis control panel set your altimeter setting the PFD should be within 25 ft of airport elevation and within 20 ft of each other continue on the glare Shield by verifying the flight directors are on the ls push button is as required the ND mode and range are as required then the captain would verify the speed mock window is dashed The Heading vertical speed track FPA push button is set to heading vertical speed and the altitude window is set to the initial expected clearance altitude next we will continue on to step number six which starts at the lateral console you would accomplish an oxygen mask test at this time for the oxygen mask test verify the crew Supply push button is on on the glare Shield verify the loudspeakers are on on the audio control panel verify the interphone reception knob is out and the volume adjusted verify the interphone radio switch is in the interphone position next we will go to the mask itself press and hold the reset test push button in the direction of the arrow you'll verify that the blinker turns yellow for a short time and then goes black then hold the test button and press the emergency pressure selector check that the blinker turns yellow and remains yellow as long as the emergency pressure selector is pressed all this time you are also listening for oxygen flow through the loudspeakers check that the reset test button return returns to the up position the N is at the 100% position and then you will press the emergency pressure selector Again by itself and check that the blinker does not turn yellow this ensures that the mask is not supplied on the door oxygen page the regulator low pressure message should be off at this time and you'll finish off the test by setting the interfold radio position back to the neutral position or as required next you will verify your instrument panel making sure the PFD and ND brightness is as required verify the loudspeaker knob is as required then the captain will verify the ecam control panel starting with the cabin pressurization page make sure the landing field elevation is in Auto position and appropriate to your destination next verify the status push button this will make sure that all of the inoperative systems the ecam may be displaying at this point are accounted for upon verification that fueling is completed the maintenance log book is on board and the departure brief is done the cockpit preparation checklist may now be started now we will highlight the pilot monitoring or in our case the first officer's cockpit preparation the first officer steps are very similar to the captain's steps so the expanded will not be described in this section we will only talk about what the first officer do on a step-by-step basis and if you want to review the expanded rewind this video to the captain's cockpit preparation first off just like the captain did the first officer will request the atus if it hasn't been done so already next the flow begins at step number three which is the first officer side of the pedestal verify the rmp is on and the Comm frequencies on the first officer side are set verify the ACP is set as required verify the transponder is set as required verify the efb is initialized initialize cpdlc if installed then do step number four the fmg C initialization and verification then when both flight crew members are seated the first officer continues on with step number five seat belts seat belt harnesses Rudder pedals and armrests should be adjusted and continue on to the glare Shield verify the ephis control panel is as required starting with the altimeter setting checking the flight director is on verifying the ls push button is as required checking the navigation display mode and range completing a oxygen mask test just like the captain did then down to the instrument panel to verify the PFD ND brightness are as required loudspeaker is set PFD and ND are set and checked doing a departure briefing and reading the cockpit preparation checklist after the captain calls for it cockpit preparation checklist maintenance login tail number on board and checked on board and checked gear pins and covers removed seat belts on aders na fuel uh 7,700 required 9,200 on board altimeters 2992 set 2992 set efb checked checked cockpit preparation checklist complete
