[00:00:38]Mental health-wise, I know people get on me for like this is who Dexter is and whatever.

[00:00:46]My point is there's always a way to change, almost always. There's some people that seem unchangeable, but it's time to take a call and answer the call to doing life differently. But, now he feels so connected with Lumen. I think this could be This may be his new relationship.

[00:01:05]It's been over a month since I freed Lumen from Boyd's, but she's still reliving it every day. I brought food.

[00:01:11]So much trauma.

[00:01:13]She is such a good actress. You're very controlling. I need to be.

[00:01:20]Mhm, she scoots over. Sometimes I didn't even know if he was there until I'd hear this watch by my ear. And then he'd lean in and whisper, "Tick, tick, tick."

[00:01:29]That's the sound of your life running out.

[00:01:31]Anyone else? Suit and tie. Oh, has names for them. The suit guy I'd know.

[00:01:37]He always took the blindfold off. I guess he thought I'd be dead soon.

[00:01:40]>> He was wrong. It's important to understand trauma and I know this is a show, it's a series, there are these intense situations, but this is a real good look at trauma. She's giving people the best look at trauma, PTSD, CPTSD, actually.

[00:01:55]Just a, you know, um, complex trauma going on that you can find.

[00:02:02]And her reactions, her mannerisms, her reliving, her retelling, because when you retell, you relive.

[00:02:11]And when you relive, the body remembers.

[00:02:13]And so, the body viscerally reacts to it. And you can see in her body her reaction to the situation of sitting in the chair, tick tick tick, of taking the blindfold off, watching him unfold his fold up his suit.

[00:02:28]She's reliving those moments, and that's what trauma does. Enters the brainstem, which is the very first thing that that's formed in our brain, and then our brain builds and grows all the way to the cortex, which is a complex thinking brain, which we have as adults. Don't get that till late teenage years, maybe early adulthood, fully done.

[00:02:45]But as we grow, our brain starts to think a little bit better.

[00:02:48]But when trauma hits, like something we've been through that's scary, a car wreck, or a loss of someone, or abuse, or any kind of heavy trauma, and we're back in a scenario that reminds us of that, goes straight to the brainstem, and sometimes it's hard to get out of the brainstem. That's fight or flight. That's the thing, the Neanderthal brain that makes us stuck.

[00:03:06]Uh, fight, flight, freeze.

[00:03:08]And we feel like we are in the middle of a battlefield. So, some people are going to fight through it, some people are going to run from it, some people are just going to catatonic and freeze.

[00:03:17]But that's the part of the brain that doesn't think super well, it just reacts.

[00:03:22]If it's not a heavy trauma, we work all the way through the brain Oh, this isn't that, you know, it's not a big deal to worry about this.

[00:03:30]That's I'm not in danger, I'm fine.

[00:03:32]But when you've had trauma like this, she is back in it, you have to be very careful because she can very easily think she's being traumatized again.

[00:03:40]She's safe enough with him now though to say, "You're very controlling." She obviously communicated there that she's more comfortable with him, which is a great sign, and Dexter is safe, like he is okay.

[00:03:51]But she can't trust anyone. Great picture of trauma and the reaction to it here.

I don't know that it's great for her when it comes to trauma like this.

[00:05:07]I know this is fantasy. Let's please be realistic about that. As a therapist, please don't take what I'm saying as this is what I'm advising clients in my office. And it is a fictional show. It is pretend. It's fantasy land. So I'm treating it as fantasy land.

[00:05:24]But when I look at it, I see him saying, "Number one, I need to do what I do alone cuz it gets too messy if I don't.

[00:05:37]Um and so I think he's protecting her in a way.

[00:05:40]She is going to want, I think, the resolution. She's going to want to close this chapter in her book. And she thinks she could do that by getting to them. I don't know if that's true.

[00:05:51]You want these men brought to justice.

[00:05:54]And I can't go to the cops because of you, so you're going to have to be a little flexible here.

[00:06:13]He takes them out in the truck, gets them to get the barrels out of there, but what do they just walk off in the wilderness?

[00:26:57]Sometimes people who are meant to be find us, and as much as we try to push them away, they work their way into our lives regardless until we finally realize how much we need them.

[00:27:15]I mean, she's like the next version of Rita, only the advanced version in terms of what she's been through in life, and she is not a um You know the same thing with Lumen?

[00:27:27]She's very smart, she's very quick, she's very [music] um street wise, but she's had so much trauma, she doesn't want it doesn't seem like the intense, [music] the passion, the sex, that that kind of stuff from him because she's been abused so much and traumatized. So, it's a perfect scenario for him to keep distance, but be connected. Like they're attached. They seem more attached than Rita and Dexter were.

[00:27:54]They seem like in sync, like they kind of think alike, like they have the same drive kind of thing, and I feel like these two are quite the team and the way that Harrison came in and she just immediately loved on him.

[00:28:13]This could be his new partner in more ways than one, y'all. And look, the shootout at the OK Corral there in the bar in Miami was a horrible mistake. La Guerta, I like you a lot, but that was a big mistake.

[00:28:30]The cops [music] in there with guns should not be anywhere near somebody that that could get found out. She should not have sent her in if she knew she had a pistol up her skirt, by the way. How the heck did she even fit that in there strapping it to the thigh. And then the gunfire starts.

[00:28:52]What is going on in this place?

[00:28:55]That's lawsuits galore. It's crazy town.

[00:28:58][music] Like LaGuerta, she's going to go for this. She's got to go for this cuz she's the one that ordered her to go in with a pistol.

[00:29:05]That's just bad news, bad scene.

[00:29:07]Should have called it off in the beginning.

[00:29:09]Could have left it with the one witness person in there, but I think they might have found her wire anyway. I don't know. It's just bad news.
