Age Concern Recommended Electrician Did This Install?!Added:
Hi there, Delro here again from Eastway.
This morning I'm off to a job in own church. The their sockets are not working on the ground floor. They done me a video call and I can see the fuse board is a split fuse board, but all the switches are up. So I don't know what's going on there. So get in there, get on with it, and see how it goes. Nice one.
So it's >> these plug sockets here. That one and that one there.
>> Only those two.
>> Yeah, that one's >> the cooker. Well, that's working. Yeah.
>> Yeah, that one's working. It's >> right. So, it's just two sockets not working.
>> Yes, as far as I'm aware, all the lights are working.
>> Okay, cool.
That one's not working. Let's just make sure.
Make sure. Oh, let's see. Make sure.
Yep.
Yep. A sec.
Go as tight.
>> What could be wrong?
Look at this.
So, it's going to go through here.
Oh my god.
Right.
Whoever done this look.
So, it's gone from there around to here.
>> Yeah. Round to there.
>> And then from here, it's gone round.
Jenny, right, Jenny. What I need to do is you see see it's going from there.
>> Yep.
>> Over here around to there. And it goes behind here to somewhere. So, I need to get over there, >> right?
Oh, it goes down here.
>> All right.
>> Well, I don't know if it goes anywhere.
Help. Yeah, it goes here, I think. When was this? This wasn't done that long ago, was it?
>> No, I'd say within about the last two to three years.
>> Yeah. Okay. I'm going to unplug this for a little while.
>> Fridge.
>> Oops. What the I wonder if it's this fuse because maybe that's where they're fed from.
from maybe.
Oh.
Ah, hold on. What if it goes through here? This is just stuck on sticky back.
Goes through the wall there.
Let's check this.
>> Do you need anything else moved?
>> Uh, for this move.
>> Yeah.
Right.
Yeah. So, that one's okay.
Mr. Gadget's going to be really upset with me because I can't find that test that socket tester he he sent me. See, that's the trouble when you when you're going from job to job. You do leave stuff behind.
And he was so kind. He sent me two originally and then when I got my stuff, Nick, he sent me another one.
Great guy.
Um, yeah, but I can't I hope I I hope I haven't lost it. I found it's on the van somewhere. I can't.
Really annoying. THAT IS We can go for you know what I'm going to do before I do any testing. What I'm going to do is just in case um why did it trip? Who knows? Could just I just want to make sure that there aren't any loose connections.
So, what I'll do, I'll just only three of them. I'll go around and tighten them. Check make sure it's all right putting the tester in there and everything comes up sweet.
might pay me just to do a bit of checking.
Make sure everything's tight.
I wonder I think it's this one cuz it's a six mill.
>> Yeah, that's it. It's still working.
Yeah, that's nice and tight.
That's tight.
Okay, that's all good.
Oh, hold up there. All right, I know what's happened. I know what's happened.
What they've done, that's the cooker switch. There was probably, let me just see down here.
There was probably a cooker outlet behind these tiles they've tiled over it. So you come into the cooker from the fuse board and then there should be a conduit going down here to an outlet where you'd connect the cooker. So what I think they've done is that cable that would have been connected to the cooker.
They've put it here to feed these sockets.
Yeah. So that's what they've done.
Oh, hold up there. Oh, okay. That one's That's got no um what you call it? Ah, okay. I thought something was Yeah.
Let's see. Yeah, that's broken. Look.
See that?
That's broken. I saw that the thing was loose, but I couldn't figure out what was wrong. Yeah, it's broken, >> right?
How do people do stuff like that? Just stick the trunk in. I think they think they think, "Oh, right. Nice. Done a nice little job there. Quick, just get in and out."
Bloody hell.
What the What's going these sockets?
Bloody hell.
The screw so long.
Oh my god. Not what up there. Why would Right. That's Oh god. I think that's a They've done a terrible job. Can't be sparkies who done this. Must be some DIY person. It's got to be Jesus. Cuz that's probably messed up that all as well.
That's the What the hell?
Oh Jesus.
Wow.
Why would someone do this? This is what I can't understand.
What is the point?
They obviously don't know what they're doing.
I reckon these are both broken.
These are both broken.
Oh Jesus. You know what the hell this guy out?
What?
What the hell's going on here?
Oh boy. You come across some things, man. It's all cheap crap as well. That's the trouble.
Cheap rubbish. These people use cheap rubbish.
Let's hope they use the right ones for this. Jesus Christ.
>> What the Is this coming out or not?
What the Oh, no. I'm leaving this much cuz what's going to happen? I'm going to take it out and I can't get it back and then I'll be here forever.
I'm going to give them some advice.
Whether they take it or not, it's up to them.
Music.
Something's going to hold. Yeah. Look, that was Look, that's pushing that away from the wall. So, the screw is actually hitting.
Look at that. Oh, I know what they've done. I know what they've done. You've got a box behind here and they've screwed rather right. The original box is behind there. So, rather I see what they've done.
You've got you've got a double box behind here. So rather than what they should have done is either drill the box and fix it or screw the box to that original box. What they've done, they've screwed the the the socket on and the box to that original box. Ah, it's a joke.
That's worse. That's what it is. Same over there probably.
Yeah, I think these are working. But I'm going to give you a bit of advice.
Let's have a check.
See what we get. Sorry.
The power is back on.
>> Right.
>> And I'm just checking to see if I get the right results. But what I would say to you, if it goes wrong again, I would redo this because I can see what I want to take them off and check in the back.
Everything's tight. But the way they've done it, if I took it off, it's going to give me a whirl of problem. I'll be here for a couple of hours trying to fix it.
>> So, what I suggest to you, if this happens again to save your problem, just redo it. this part here cuz I can see what they've done but they haven't done the best job cuz look all this for instance that should be screwed to the wall. All they've done what it is you got what they call sticky back trunk and you peel off and you just stick it but >> it doesn't stick very well to non flat surface.
>> Yeah. And the thing is, not only that, my opinion when you're doing 240 volt cable like this is serious. If you're doing like telephone cables that you can't get a shock off or anything, that's I would still fix it, but get away with it there maybe. But when you're doing this type of stuff, that should be fixed properly. You you use the sticky back to get it in place and then you just drill it. And that's that's what I do anyway. It's my opinion. Everybody's got their own.
>> So yeah. So, I'm going to leave it. It's I've got it working. Just testing it.
And yeah, so once if it does happen, what happened was the fuse blew.
>> All right.
>> This one here, that blew.
>> So, is that in that box?
>> You just I'll show you, Jenny. Or >> I don't normally touch it.
>> Yeah. Don't touch. But this is simple stuff. You got you got to know how to change a fuse.
>> No.
>> Yeah, I'll I'll show you. Have to learn how to >> I probably do, but you have to liberate.
>> Yeah. Well, you have to learn to change a fuse. Everybody should know how to change a fuse in and like that. Not mess about with electrics. Cuz do you want to call an electrician out to change a fuse?
>> If it stops from electric shock. Yeah.
>> No. No. You You can't get a shock. you you'll be fine. Just change it. I'll show you. If you if you think it's dangerous, then don't do it. Right.
Anyway, I'll wait for that to Oh, no. I can't take it out until this is done anyway, cuz even that is not fixed back to the wall properly. It's It's not This is It's a bit of a joke, to be honest.
Okay.
1.25.
Make sure I'm going to give you So, that's the fuse that came out of yours, Jenny.
>> All right.
>> Yeah. That's your fuse there.
Dead.
Right. So, that's one. Keep that as a spear.
>> Right.
>> Right. Now, what you do if if it goes again, but like I said, you just need to get something to flick this out.
>> All right. Yeah.
>> Right. Just flick that out. Pull this out. Put the other one in. Simple.
Simple.
>> Does it matter what way?
>> No. No. No. It doesn't matter. And if you're double scared, what you can do, let me just show you.
>> See this switch here?
>> The one next to this here.
>> Yeah, >> that does that. So if you're if you want to change the fuse and you're scared, just switch that off and that will be dead. Yeah.
>> Perfect.
>> And then once you got put the fuse in, you switch back on. Yeah. Okay.
>> I'm going to put the cover back on. Uh let me just do one more test. Check the RCD.
All right, switch that back on.
20.4.
Right. So, at least your RCD is working.
>> Did that trip again? Did it? Oh, I forgot to unplug it. It's doing It's doing another test. That's all right.
That's no problem. Right. Okay. That's cool. Yeah. So, um Yeah. Yeah. So everything's functioning right and yeah. So that's basically what happened.
The fuse blew. What caused it to blow? I don't know. So but like I said, >> yeah.
>> If it happen if it happens again, I would just to redo all this. Oh, let me just get this done and I'll have a chat to you about that. The lady that was I was talking to most of the thing, that was a client's daughter. She's an elderly lady. I think she's bedridden.
And um the Sparky who done that apparently was recommended by age concern.
Oh my days. It It amazes me. I've been in this trade for so long and I still come across thing things that just baffle me out. They why they do the things they do. Because when you work on the council sometime you put those plastic boxes on and you fix it to the original box that was in flush in the wall be a single or a double. But what you do you drill you sometimes the holes of the back of the box match up sometimes they don't. You have to drill extra holes to get to it. But you usually put at least one or two fixings in the wall to make sure. But what they've done, they've used extra long screws and fixed and then it's weird.
They've connected the cable to the socket and then they've screwed the socket through the box to the wall.
Makes no sense to the back box that's on the wall. Makes no sense. This is what people do, mate. This is what people do.
Anyway, it's all done. Nice one. See you next time.
