Vortex filters work by creating a swirling water motion that causes solids to settle at the bottom while clean water rises through a media layer, providing mechanical filtration; fish health can be significantly improved by isolating stressed fish in smaller volumes of water with proper filtration and addressing temperature-related stress factors.

Is It An Eazypod?! New 'Old' Filtration Equipment And More...追加:
Hello everybody. Hope you're all doing well. In today's video, we'll give you a few updates on what's happening around here. Uh we'll have a look at some of the new equipment that I picked up uh that I sort of mentioned on one of the last videos and yeah, just bit of a general update on things uh moving forward. So without further ado, let's spin you around. Right, so in here there's only a small volume of water, but that's because it's easier to treat a smaller volume of water. Um I'm giving these one of the gill and body flute treatments.
that I used on the other tank just as a precautionary measure. These were a few fish that were in the main pond and they just I don't know. I I don't know if it was to do with the temperature drops at night or whether there's another issue underlying. I'm not sure, but they're just they're not doing very well.
They're not they're not growing. They're not really doing much of anything at all to be honest. And uh the bigger one in here, the heat sur he's got um sort of excess mucus and again I think it's just these cold nights um the water temperature dropping is not not really handling it very well. So what I've done is I've bought them in here, put them in this smaller volume of water combined in here and the filtration. There's about 200 L of water, which makes this really easy to dose because this is treatment for 200 L over a it's a 10day period, but five treatments. So now that they're in here, they actually seem to be doing better.
So I think it is a temperature related thing but it won't hurt to uh give them that treatment anyway.
So that moves me on to the equipment in here. Pressure filter that I picked up from that job uh or from say the job from the uh person I bought it from a few weeks back. That's still running perfectly.
Absolutely no leaks whatsoever. Can't fault it. Uh same with the pump came with it.
been running nonstop, no issues.
Now, this is one of the bits of kit I picked up from the other location. And what it actually is, I believe, is sort of a almost like a rudimentary uh easy pod. It's an old clover leaf filter. So, the water comes in through the back there.
It sort of vortexes around and any of the solids drop down to the bottom where you've got this waste pipe and then it goes up through there's like a grill here and in in sort of the first section there's a load of this almost star- shaped media. Uh I've never seen it before but plastic media.
And then there's another grill about here.
And as it fills with water, this media rises in a block just like the K wanders in a in an easy pod. And it gets trapped at the top of that grill. So I can only presume that's like a static bed, like a mechanical filtration almost to stop the particles getting through. and then they come out on top through the other grill and then they gradually overflow into this pipe.
So, what I'm thinking I'm going to do in here is I'll probably put some some alpha grog in there at first and then um what I might do is put a load of clay balls on the top or not fully decided yet, but I might plant that full of full of whatever and have a really nice sort of plant filter in the top of that. I think that'd be pretty cool.
but also it's got an airline um between the two layers where the media is at the bottom. I don't know if it was added after like retrofitted afterwards or whether it came with it originally cuz I've not actually seen one of these before, but it's all um someone's put like a it's like a square that they've it almost looks homemade of like PVC piping with this tube attached into it. And if I take you up there and then uh blow into the tube hopefully what you'll be able to see is it sort of boiled.
So, I can either rig that up to an airline and constantly have oxygen running through that media, which would be really beneficial for it, or I could use that as a means to um blow the dirt out the media just like you would with an easy pod to um give it a clean and uh then obviously let all the dirty water out the out the drain pipe. Anyway, so yeah, that's one of the bits I picked up. the other bits outside because it's a bit bigger. But we'll have a look at that one later. Uh I'll just jump across this one while we're here. Uh these goldfish doing really well.
Um this has actually cleared up a hell of a lot as well. Um a lot of the biological cloudiness seems to have gone from it. And you can see the goldfish swimming about in here a lot more now.
tend to hang out towards the back, but they do come that he's got a great big twist in his body, but obviously hasn't affected it because he's he's still huge.
Um, but yeah, so goldfish doing really well.
Uh, and then this is just going from strength to strength again. Really do a trim. I think it's really starting to grow in and come over the edges now.
I just I'm really really putting it off because I just want to build up a bit more so I can then fill in these gaps. But to be honest, other than that one there, maybe a few bits around the back, it's starting to do a pretty good job of filling itself.
So yeah, really really happy with the way that that shower is growing now.
Um, what I think I'll do is I'll either take some of these plants in the top out or I'll work around them. And I kind of want to put a carnivorous plant or two in there. Uh, either a pitcher plant or sort of the I don't know about the actual Venus fly trap ones because they're all right, but I don't know.
I like the pitcher plants. I also like the um the is it the drosser ones? Um drosceras or whatever they're called with the sort of long leaves and the sticky sticky hairs on them that curl up. I think they could be pretty cool. So So anyway, I'm waffling now, but um it's excitement. So that's all the updates for in this room. So, uh, we'll finish that up there and, uh, I'll meet you elsewhere.
All right, the Cuttlebrook fry. They're not as easy to see at the moment. The the water went very very green because it was all open to the light coming through the the back door there. Um, so what I've actually had to do, see if it focuses at all, is I've had to tape a piece of cardboard to that side of the tank to stop it getting so green.
But obviously, what that's done is it's cut off a lot of the light going into the tank now. So, but yeah, the fish that are in here are doing okay.
filter's nice and uh mature bubbling away there.
Um yeah, so what these are going through now is a treatment basically swapping treatments with what the IBC tank had. So these now being treated for trick cost uh few other bits and bobs whatever it says on the on the bottle. So that's a 7-day course treat on days one, four, and seven. So they've already had one treatment. They'll get another one in two days time, I think it is, and then the final one 3 days after that. So So yeah, uh, Cuttlebrook Fry all still kicking about so far.
Uh, yeah, doing well. Okay, so you'll have to excuse the mess, guys. I want to start to clear the uh the garden up soon. I've just got loads of little plants that need to go in the ground and bought for various projects but just not got in. But anyway, this was the other piece of kit that I picked up.
A very large vortex filter complete with 2-in ball valve which I've opened up, cleaned, uh checked the seals.
Um yeah, got it all all up and running again. Once that's completely watertight, uh, spin you around. Got this bit as well.
Someone's drilled a load of holes in there.
Just balance that on top of there.
So, what I'm planning on doing is uh well, I've got my ideas on what I want to do with this, but I'm also after your your opinions. What would you turn this into?
I already know what I'm going to do with it, and uh the build for that will be coming up shortly, but let me know what you would do with it if you would if you had picked this up.
So yeah, in the future it's actually set up for me to do it a different way.
Um, so it will be modified in the future, but for the time being, yeah, like I say, I know what I'm I know what I'm planning on doing with it, but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts as well.
Oh, they think it's feeding time again.
As for the main pond, everything's looking good. Um, as I say, only the there's only those few fish that didn't really seem to be liking the temperature drops overnight.
So, um, yeah, a little bit emptier in here now.
Some of the smaller ones are around here with a with a bigger lot and the rest of the smaller ones are on the far side hiding. Probably thinking I'm going to have the net in there again. So yeah. Uh yeah, everything's all doing well with this really. Uh can't fault it. There a few bits I want to get done in the not too distant future.
Um, I want to do, as I say, a proper fish video where we get some fish out, we have a look at them.
Uh, almost get back to the basics in some ways.
Uh, yeah, and also I want to move some fish on. And there's also the matter of the 250 subscriber giveaway as well because I said I was going to do that and then before I knew it I was sitting over 300 subscribers which um yeah again just mind-blowing. Can't thank you enough everybody who has subscribed means a lot to me.
Um well you know I've told you before how much it means to me. Um, I don't I intend to be here for the long haul.
So, I I appreciate anybody who wants to follow along.
So, yeah. Um, we'll get all that sorted, I think, for the next video.
Uh, and I want to do a bit of an overhaul on basically the pond. really get it all tidied up, ready to move forward cuz uh big plans this year, but just waiting for it to get a little little bit warmer.
Okay, so I think that'll be all for this uh video. Sorry it was a bit of a short one, more more of a vlog style uh catch up on just a few bits that have been going on. Um there will be more interesting stuff to follow. Um so just bear with me. There's a few bits in the pipeline. Um, life's a little bit busy at the moment, but uh, yeah, should should be getting some stuff done soon.
Obviously, we've got some bits done like this here.
I'm really happy with that. Um, just got to get it finished off. Um, but yeah, still still plenty to do, still plenty to see. So, I think we'll leave it there for now. So, if you could please like, share, subscribe, hit the notification bell, all that usual social media stuff, and I will see you on the next one, whatever that may be. Goodbye.
