While both Christianity and Islam are monotheistic religions, they fundamentally differ in their understanding of God: Muslims consider Christians to be polytheists because of the Trinity, and the Quran explicitly warns against believing in the Trinity or calling Jesus God, stating that those who do so will face punishment; additionally, Islam prohibits calling God 'father' and requires specific prayer practices like facing Mecca, which Christianity does not mandate.

Do Christians & Muslims Worship The Same God? | Raheem Oluwaseun (Jlamp) | The ArticulateAñadido:
Do Christians and Muslims have the same God?
>> Well, to answer this question, sometimes I I I do love to say that this is not one that requires a yes or no answer.
>> In the sense that if we lay the premise, whoever is asking, we'll checkmate and see if truly they are the same God.
>> Okay? One of which we just spoke about.
Now the God of the Christians and the Jews is Yahweh Jehovah and the God of the Muslims is Allah.
Now for Muslims they rever the prophet Muhammad and they venerate him very well. In fact some some Muslims can even kill for Muhammad.
that they will kill for Allah.
The case of Dborah, why did they kill her? It was a blasphemy not against Allah but against Muhammad.
>> Go and check a lot of the killings that this these people did is most times about Muhammad.
Again another thing is that though they claim that they are both a mon monotheistic religion Muslims still feels that >> Christians let me interject you there please by monotheistic there are so many persons who do not understand this our jags.
>> Oh okay >> can you >> yes >> spell it out a little.
>> Yes. When we say monotheistic is a combination of two words mono which means one theistic or let's say tastes is god.
>> So there are those who believe in one god one taste. So if you see somebody who is monotheistic it means that he believes in god in one god. So they both believe in one god. But when it comes to a certain level, the Muslims will tell you that no Christians are polytheists.
>> And that's why later in the Quran, you'll see places that he will use a language for them. We'll call them either disbelievers or polytheists.
>> Meaning that they believe in many gods in different gods. They believe that the trinity is a combination of different gods. M >> so they feel that well Muslims are serving one God but Christians are serving three gods. The concept of trinity is one thing that a lot of them will not get or they do not want to get. And yet they use that as as a theme against Christianity because they feel that Islam holds this pillar that is called the oneness of God. Mhm.
>> So if you believe in the oneness of God, you must not believe in the trinity of another God.
Now in Quran 573, in fact Quran 5 ala did a lot to talk about all of these things.
A lot to talk about all of these things.
And I quickly want to read so that I'm not doing this out of context.
Quran 573.
You know, I read one before I said don't talk about trinity. Stop.
>> Here is another surahul ala 573.
Well, in Islam, in the Quran, you only have surah and ayah.
>> Okay.
>> Yes. The chapter and the verse.
>> So, it says those who say Allah is one in a trinity have certainly fall into have certainly fallen into disbelief.
There is only one God. If you do not stop saying this, those who disbelieve among them will be afflicted with a painful punishment. Those who disbelieve among them will be afflicted with a painful punishment.
>> Painful punishment to say that if you keep talking about trinity, >> there is a painful punishment that will be afflicted on you. To say that Allah distances himself from what you know as trinity.
>> So I'm using this to answer the question of do we serve the same god?
>> Yes sir. So if they do not believe in anything called trinity and you keep getting backto back warnings about trinity means that we are not the same means we are not the same again in that same surah ala he also says that if you teach that Jesus is god you are going to hell you don't say Jesus is god God again. 572. Those who say Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary, >> have certainly fallen into disbelief.
>> The Messiah himself said, "Oh children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Whoever associates others with Allah in worship will surely be forbidden paradise by Allah.
>> Which means that whoever keeps saying that Jesus the Messiah is God.
Such a person will be sent to hell.
>> Because if you are forbidding paradise, what else? Hell is the next.
So if we serve the same God, you won't tell me that me saying that Jesus is God because what did Jesus die for? Or why did they kill him?
While an inscription was to be placed on his cross, it was to be written king of the Jews.
>> And one said no writes that he said I am the king of the Jews. He said no what I have written I have written. just leave it that way. There were times that he claimed to be God and the Jews understood what he was saying.
>> He used the I am statement that was attributed only to God. Because even in the Quran, the things that were attributed to him were things that only Allah could have done. And so I'd have it in mind that I would say that Kai Muhammad was really a smart person. M >> imagine that you came 500 years after and then you had to get everything muddled up to be in wide contrast with what you met on ground.
>> If truly the Quran was to be the final revelation of God to mankind, why should it contradict the previous scriptures that he met?
M >> at the earlier part of his journey in fact he was even told that if you are in doubt of this religion that you are on which is Islam go and ask the people of the book.
The Quran said it >> because they had they have the word from Allah before you came.
>> Who are the people of the book?
>> The Christians are the people of the book. The Christians are the Jews. So the Quran references the book, the Bible.
>> Yes. References the Bible >> as a pointer to truth.
>> A word from Allah. A word from Allah.
>> He said it >> as the Quran said it. So he said if you in doubt of what we have revealed to you or you have further questions. Go and ask the people of the books >> cuz they are the ones who have the revelation before. They are the ones who had the revelation before you came. So go and check with them because to me I believe that Muhammed had interactions with Christians a lot of them and these were the things that formed the basis of some of the things we see in the Quran because how could you have spoken about the children of Israel saying Jesus is the Messiah.
>> M >> that Jesus is God.
So it means that you came after all of the drama of they had to kill Jesus because you must have seen all of those things before you conclude and write something about it.
So it meant that he had interactions with those who lived at that time.
And when he first came and he interacted with the people, he he swayed them to feel like this that I'm bringing is from the long list of the people that Allah has been sending.
He has given the to MS which is the Torah to Moses.
He has given the zabul to dood that's the psalms to David.
>> He has given in to Isa which is the gospels to Jesus and then he had given the Quran to Muhammad.
So that's what the Quran said that these four people God gave them the scriptures.
>> But if you look at it, you've taken the trait which is the Torah.
You've taken the Zabul which is the Psalms and you've taken the injil which is the Gospels. So what else again that shows us a compendium of the whole Bible. So it meant that at the time of Jesus they had the old Bible because at the time of Muhammad rather they had the old Bible at the time of Jesus they had the full Old Testament >> because Jesus also referenced the Old Testament. He referenced the Torah. He referenced the prophets.
So when Muhammad came, he saw all of those that they were available. So he was able to use all of those things to his own advantage.
So are we still saying that we serve the same God?
In Quran 12, it says God does not have a father. God does not have a father. And again in that same surah to almida it tells us that they should rebuke Jews and Christians for saying that they are the beloved of God. Quran 5:18 don't say you are a beloved of God because they are all abdu they are slaves of God. So saying that you are a child of God is trying to bequit upon yourself a certain role that is only meant for those who are closer to God. Maybe like the prophets.
>> So with these pointers now I believe that we can see that there is a wide divide a very big wide margin.
He says, "The Jews and the Christians each say, we are the children of Allah and his most beloved. Say, oh prophet, why then does he punish you for your sins?" No, you are only humans like others of his own making.
>> Don't say that you are one beloved or whatsoever. No, you are just like the regulars. As he said, he forgives whoever he wills and punishes whoever he wills. To Allah alone belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and everything in between and to him is the final return.
>> So the the concept of sunship and fatherhood is only found in Christianity and not found in Islam. If we truly are serving the same God, we Muslims should be able to call Allah their father.
They should be able to interact in that kind of stream to say this is my father.
I'm trying to communicate with my father who is in heaven. And that was what Jesus taught us. Said when you are to pray say my father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth. So in Islam we do not find that kind of thing.
So those pointers and then in Islam you don't just pray.
If I come in here like as a Muslim I want to pray I must look for that prayer point. There is a cardinal of the prayer point that I must get to.
There's a place a certain place I must face before I pray for Allah to accept it.
I can't just face anywhere to pray.
So you have to you have to look for a place that place they have apps on the phone that gives them the pointer of the certain place to face when they are praying something that looks like it was in Daniel's time when they said no prayers and then he goes to the window to go and face >> a certain place and that was where Muslims were actually facing before Muhammad saw that these people are beginning to eat meal I can't continue to be praying in the line at which they are praying and then he shifted to another side where they also face to do their prayers >> from all that you have stated there's just so much to unwrap from it and some of the questions that I have here you've sort of like touched on some of them for instance I was going to ask about um why you I think this misconception is um is popular amongst both faiths.
You sometimes go on evangelism. You meet a Muslim and they say don't witness to me because we serve the same God. And some Christians that you meet also, they say the same thing as well.
Um is it a function of trying to tolerate one one another? Is that why we have that or is it a lack of understanding of the clear difference like some of the things that you have stated?
>> Okay.
I feel that it's a function of knowledge first.
>> There are Christians who do not know >> and they are yet Muslims too who really are not well read. M >> like for example some weeks back we were returning from a program and then we were in the bus the Lord had showed me that there was likely to be an accident on this journey I couldn't sleep I was trying to sleep but I couldn't sleep I just stayed praying we were almost it was along that uh a year Bad expressway with the new road. So we were almost getting close to Obama and that lady was seated in front. She was going to a she and other people and then while we were going something just happened to the bus and the bus could not move again. The drivers tried to start the bus a number of times. It did not work.
And then she somehow heard that we we we were pastors because I was in a group of pastors coming for the program. And then he said well pastor just pray pray in the name of Jesus. I was like ah you too you can say in Jesus name now.
Said no it shall not be Isa. Said you can say in Jesus name. I said no shall not be Isa.
said, "So what's bad in you seeing Jesus and praying in his name? If you can mention the name of Issa, why can't you pray in his name?" She said, "No, I don't believe in that."
So it is knowledge. Any Muslim who has found knowledge will not say that we are serving the same God. But when we want to sound like we tolerate each other on the guise of maybe interfaith discourse or dialogue, we we want to look for a way to celebrate each other and find a meeting point. So we say we we serve the same God because of this same monotheistic umbrella that I spoke about the other time.
>> Yeah.
But me looking at other things that that is attached. We do not we do not actually I can sit here now and pray to God.
I can sit here and pray to God. I can be in the toilet and pray to God.
But you can't do that in Islam.
>> You must first locate the pibla. You just parked in here.
The first thing is to get your special spot where you put your mat of prayer and your mat of prayer must be situated in that spot. And you must first locate your kibla first that is facing Mecca just like Daniel faced where he faced. You must face Mecca for them. Any prayer outside the kibla is not going to be accepted.
And while you are menrating you don't you don't handle your Quran >> as a woman when >> as a woman while menrating you don't handle the Quran you cannot handle the Quran because you you are not clean enough to do that >> the way we carry our Bibles and then we put anything on it and then no you can't do that you can't do that to the Quran no nothing must be placed on it must be there aloof of whatsoever so if you check all of these things And then they permit that well you can marry four as long as uh you are able to take care of them equally. But can can a man do that? It's impossible. It's impossible.
And then promises about the hurries the virgins that they would get when they get to Aljana is part of the things. We don't have all of those things as Christians. There is nothing like those promises.
It's nothing like those promises and then you can't marry more than a wife, a man to a wife from the beginning it was not. So that was what Jesus said because God made them man and wife.
So you you don't go beyond the line. You don't cross the boundaries. So they they try to bring these things all in the name of let's just show that we are one.
In the west, a lot of people, a lot of Muslims are now infiltrating the west, >> infiltrating the west. A lot of them, a lot of them going all around doing whatsoever. In fact, claiming that Sharia must come in because they want to establish the Muslim Umah.
And that's the community of Muslims where Muslims will be the one to govern every affair, every punishment will be under the Sharia law >> and all of these things. We do not have that kind of thing. Even if we want to spread the gospel to the world, we don't have the mind of doing it with whatsoever strategy or whatsoever other than preaching the gospel >> and reaching out to people. So these are the contrasts that we find here and there. So if you see those who really know and that's why when they blame Boo Haram I look at them and that's why those those boo members too will tell you that you are not doing the religion.
We are the ones doing the religion. He says that you should slay slay the Yei and the Nosara. Slay the Christians and the Jews.
Slay them.
So if you do not that's why if you do not maintain the radical ideology that they carry even though you are a Muslim they will still heal you.
>> They believe that you must be as radical as it was in the beginning because it was a way it was in the beginning with Prophet Muhammad and he kept going about fighting wars and displacing people to make them receive what he brought. So these are the things that those guys radical Islamists are bringing to the table to tell the nominal Muslims that no you are not doing it well. This is how you should do it. You can't hear those people say that we serve the same God.
You can't hear them say that even when the Quran itself is saying that we do not serve the same God. Clearly the Quran has said it that we do not serve the same God.
No.
