Loyalist militias, local men loyal to the crown, began gathering at key outposts like Dollard's Tavern near Black Mingo Creek. These weren't just resting places. They were recruitment hubs, supply points, and centers of British influence. This is where Francis Marion saw opportunity. Dollard's Tavern wasn't heavily fortified. It was isolated, and most importantly, it was full of Loyalist militia who believed they were safe. They gathered there like it's a sanctuary. This attack showed that resistance was not only alive, but growing stronger. At Dollard's Tavern, Loyalist militia relaxed eating, drinking, and talking of British victory at Camden.
