In 2019, it suddenly dimmed so dramatically that astronomers thought it might be about to explode as a supernova. When it finally does, it could shine as bright as the full moon, even visible in daytime. It's about 640 light-years away, so we're safe. But here's the part that messes with your head. If Betelgeuse exploded 600 years ago, the light just hasn't reached us yet.
