Installing a water tank on a vehicle for fire protection requires proper mounting techniques including securing the tank with straps, adding support blocks to keep it level, and creating custom brackets from repurposed materials like bed frames; the installation process involves removing the vehicle deck, positioning the tank, welding support structures, and ensuring the tank is anchored to prevent forward sliding during braking.

Tilt Deck Off, Water Tank On for Fire Protection May 31 2026Added:
Okay. Sunday morning in the kingdom. And make sure you clean your vacuum. Yes.
There we go. I remembered it. And I have to set it over here. Yeah. Got talent.
All right. Let's get ourselves centered now because we don't have to place the vacuum. All right. This morning we woke up to plus 16 Celsius. It feels like who cares on the yo-yo scale. Plus 60 Fahrenheit. But who cares? Yeah. Who cares? All right. Today we have a busy Sunday. So, we didn't go live because we knew the boss would plan something big for us to do on a Sunday. Yes, we can't do it on a Monday or a regular workday, but always on a Sunday for us. All right, so no rain for us last night, but Grief Rapids had lots of lightning strikes in the burnt areas. The staff was following along on the lightning strike follower thingy Bob app on her me phone, but they got some rain. They got heavy rain over there, which is good.
Hopefully, we get some rain today because they've been forecasting it for how many days now? It's supposed to get hot and then rain. Hot and then rain.
We're getting the hot but not the rain.
All right. And I'm very impressed with the Arctic Captain. Yes, that thing was amazing. Now, if we used the Pro 38 Plus from Princess Auto Oh, proof it's not AI generated. it with the project would have taken twice as long cuz we'd be fighting to get it to cut and then banging it apart and chop sawing it to death to get it to work.
But we got it handled. We're very pleased with such a small little machine at a third of the cost of the big, how do you say pro 38 plus from Princess Auto. So, Arctic Captain for the win.
Oh, yes. Did I get that? Yes. Look, my notes. I wrote it in a colored marker.
Yeah. All right. Let's scroll this way.
Staff's coming over early this morning.
We got things to do. Yes. We got lots to do. We got to keep going. Get this stuff going. We're going to put the water tank on the 45 Chevy while we work on the deck. Yes. Yes. Take the deck off, work on it, and then drive around with a water tank on the back cuz we know the wagon we can't back up. So, we have a truck that needs to run and drive and get worked in. Yes, we got to, how would you say, get it broken in again after that motor's been sitting since 2009 when we recovered it off the cano rally road out of a vehicle accident. So, I got to get it working. The more you use items, the better they are. Yes. Keep them lubed, keep them fueled up, and keep them more working. Yes. That's why I'm out here every day because if I stop or slow down, I'll probably seize up at my age. All right, there we go. One full rotation. I'm dizzy. Yes, I'm dizzy. All right, let's get to work before the boss finds us. Yeah. And then he'll find more for for us to do. All right, we got to go.
Sunday morning in Whoville. It's just after 9:00 a.m. and as you can see, it's actually pretty cloudy out here right now. Hopefully, we get some rain today.
Now, I will get the quad out and head over to the kingdom. We're going to do a few things this morning in the yard and then get the deck off the truck and couple other things. We're going to do it this morning before it gets hot this afternoon.
9:30 and I made it to the kingdom. Looks like my dad is ready to get the skis and the frame off of the truck here. And then we will be taking the deck off as well. And then doing a few other things.
So, we are going to drive this over by the van trailers. That way the mini and the green toy can pull off the skis.
made it over by the van trailers. Now we will hook the mini up to the hitch and then my dad is going to bring the green toy around and hook onto the chain that's on the top there. That way we can slide it off and hopefully the whole thing doesn't fall off as one. I will be setting up the tripod since I'll be on the mini or the green toy.
Holding it. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
We were able to get the skis off no problem. The deck on the truck tilted, so my dad was able to get a measurement underneath for the hydraulic, which worked out perfectly. And the deck didn't fall off when we were pulling the skis off. Now we'll head back around over by the welding sleigh and take the deck off. And then we have to come over here, get some timbers, and then that silver tank we were using last year for fires is what's going to go on the truck over at the welding sleigh. And now we will hook the green toy up to the deck, lift it up, and then my dad will drive the truck out. We have to put these two barrels at the front here to keep it up and level. And then there's two blocks on the back to keep it up off the ground. I will be switching over to the tripod. That way I can give my dad a hand.
Set it down.
10:00 a.m. We got the deck off. No problem. Hopefully the tripod picked up the video. Now we will head over to the tomb barge where the two timbers are.
We'll put those onto the truck and then we have to pick up the silver tank with the green toy.
My dad is just bringing the truck over.
He ribbon the two timbers we need. So, we'll be slinging them with the green toy, and we'll just swing around and then put them onto the truck.
Got the timbers on the back of the 45.
Now my dad will drive it up to the shop and park it. And then we will go over to the silver tank and hook it on to the green toy.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Got the tank up to the shop. We are not going to put it onto the truck just yet.
My dad has to size up the boards and do a little bit of welding on the frame and a few other things. But when he's ready, we will just swing it over and set the tank on. This is the tank that we used last season with all the fires and stuff. We were in the bush with it.
That's why there's rims on the side.
That way we could hang our hoses on there.
10:30 and I'm done in the kingdom for now. I will come back this afternoon when my dad is ready to put the tank onto the truck. So, let's head back into Whoville and put the quad away and let the puppies out.
>> Okay, lunchtime in the kingdom and the flags are going, but the green toys blocking it out. Look at that. I'm a professional. I don't know how many times we've done this over the last few years. All right, so drill the holes, drill everything, get it all done.
Hopefully, we measure correctly and hopefully it works. The staff will be over after lunch. Also, too, everybody recognizes the wooden blocks. Yes, I wanted to park it in exactly the same spot because I know the cord lengths.
Yes, the cord lengths, Yogi. So, I knew yesterday working on the uh big ski uh sled or stoneboat, everything worked.
So, I wanted to park in exactly the same spot. So, back after grandpa was done trucking with this truck, I forget what year he got rid of it. He kept it after the accident when the train hit him and they replaced the back of the cab. And then it went to be a farm truck. So we got it off a farm down by Lton, Manitoba near the USA Canadian border and we dragged it home back in 1982 to the pink house in Alexander. So this truck backing up to wooden blocks as a grain truck on the farm. That's a old school.
That's how you know you're always in line with the augur. Yes, the augur. All right, so let's have a quick lunch and the staff will be here after lunch sober. We're going to put the tank over onto the wood and then we can figure out some fenders. Yes, we got to have fenders cuz we're going to go fast.
We're going to go zoom zoom.
12:00 p.m. and I'm just getting ready to make lunch. I'll be having good old KD again. Yes, I had it yesterday, but I'm not that hungry and this is easy to make. So, let's head inside, let the dogs out and make lunch. There is a bee flying around me.
Almost 1:00 p.m. and I'm just finishing up lunch and fed the dogs. Now, I will head back to the kingdom. Looks like my dad is ready to put the tank on the truck.
made it to the kingdom and it looks like my dad is down at the shop and he's ready to put the tank onto the 45. So, let's head on down and do that. I will most likely set up the tripod that way I can line the tank up while he's working the controls or the other way around.
We were able to get the tank on no problem. Not sure what happened to the tripod. It was not recording. I think I didn't press the button or something.
But we got it on no problem. Now we are going to strap it down and center it.
1:30 and we were able to get it strapped down. Now my dad is going to put these on around the tires. So we're just leveling things out and then he can mount them onto the wood and the frame.
I'm officially done in the kingdom. I left the puppies in the room with Eve, so let's hope there's nothing destroyed when I go home.
>> Okay, it was a nice day till 4:00, a relaxing Sunday, just putting away, getting things done. And then it got windy and it's gotten humid like my t-shirt sticking to my body. The ladies will like that with my 6-in bulging biceps. All right, so over here, how do you make junk? Like these plastic spenders are holy crap. And they're do two different sizes and the holes are drilled different. So, and then we're going to anchor into the wood because the wood is just temporary. They call them water just for the fire season. So, just make up your bracket. The staff went and got some bed frames from the neighbor. Make up your bracket and then cut it with the zip cut and hope for the best and bolt it on. So, it looked out pretty good. It worked out pretty good cuz all we want is a visual. Yeah, we know it's going to break off anyways.
So, the Hobart Handler 100 with the gifted drive rollers and the gifted wire performed excellent. We're out here in the wind and it went pretty good and we're going to come over here and this side is the bigger one.
Yeah. So, we got it on and it looked out turned out pretty good. There's some boogerness in that timber, so we had to put all the bolt holes at the top. So, how would you say this was custommade fenders or how would you say magic show making it work? So, very pleased. All right, let's turn the truck around cuz we got to make a support on the front to keep the tank from walking forward or if I slam on the brakes really hard, you know, and the tank will slide forward and bend the exhaust. We can't have that. So, that's what we got to do next.
All right, let's get at it before it's too windy to work out here.
5:00 p.m. and this is the temperature we're sitting at right now. It's still 29° C, which is 84° F. We even have the feels like on the bottom. As you can see by the weatherboard, it is pretty windy out here right now. And it's a warm wind. It did look like it was going to rain there a little bit, but now the sun is shining. So, let's head inside, let the dogs out, make supper, and end my day. Okay, I think it's close to 7:00 or 6:30, somewhere in there. But we got it done. I put air in the tires. The tank is anchored so at the front so it can't slide forward. Yes. Last thing I want is the the tank to come forward. And then I'm in the cab there with the airbags going off. That wouldn't be a good thing. And this bumper has always annoyed me for the last four years cuz it's crooked. And no matter what you did, it was crooked. So, I straightened it. Yeah, we put some square tubing or rectangular tubing in there. Called it good. Yes, that's all we need. And for safety, I covered up the radiator. I'll have to take that off cuz I think it'll overheat. But like, what do you do with this stuff here? Like, you can see that there's two of these original bumper things. One is bent, one is straight.
It's kind of pointless. And there's the bed frames that we cut up quickly to be used the material to get those fenders on. Those fenders look good from afar.
Far from good. And don't please don't step on it or lean on them. They'll break off. All right, let's go back over to see what the flags are doing. We have to refresh the carburetor and put the distributor or the ATI vacuum advance.
Correct the correct that and refresh the carb and gap the plugs and everything.
And then we can haul some water. And look at the flags. It got windy. It got humid. It was unreal. But I worked right through. Feller finished out the shift to make this project a success. All right, let's go walk the dogs. I'm going to cheat. I'm going to take the shortcut. They can run the long way around and back and I'll beat them. I'll just walk slow and I'll beat them back to the house. All right, let's go make a video and we'll talk to you later.
