“I'm Gonna Die in Jail” — Woman Breaks Down After Judge Rejects Probation

[00:00:08]>> It's said we got black people and we got white people in the jail. The white people want control over everything.

[00:00:13]They want power over everything. And when I speak up for us, you know, let us watch TV. Let us watch what we want to watch. Let us use the tablet. When they get up in the morning time, they grab two and three tablets for their friends.

[00:00:26]We were last here on April 8th, 2026 where the defendant pled guilty to amended count one of the indictment attempted illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility a felony of the fourth degree with a forfeiture specification. Count two, possession of cocaine, a felony of the fifth degree.

[00:00:47]Count six, tampering with records.

[00:00:49]Amended to include the dates August 5th, 2025 through August 12th, 2025, as well as the initial dates. And amended count 7, identity fraud, a felony of the fifth degree. Also amended to include the dates August 5th, 2025 through August 12th, 2025 in addition to the initial dates. And we are here today for sentencing.

[00:01:12]>> Miss Harris is requesting to be placed on community controls. [clears throat] Uh as the court is aware, she is currently on community control in Kyhoga County. Um initially, uh the plan in Kyhoga County was for her to attend the CBCF, but unfortunately due to her, uh medical issues, uh she was denied entry.

[00:01:32]Um we are hopeful that uh the court will uh place her on community control here.

[00:01:39]Uh perhaps she could even uh be supervised by Kyhoga County as that's uh more where she uh resides.

[00:01:48]Um she does have a number of concerns regarding her uh medical issues. She has experienced a couple of uh blood sugar drops in the jail indicated [clears throat] that she was uh coming very dizzy, sweating. Um she does have a number of medical appointments uh that she needs uh to get to and uh is hoping that the court will fashion a sentence, your honor, that allows her to continue with her medical treatment with her uh existing team of doctors and uh maintain some sort of regulation over all of those issues on the outside.

[00:02:38]>> Um, I would like to apologize to the courts. Um, I hold full responsibility for my actions.

[00:02:45]>> What What actions are you taking responsibility for?

[00:02:48]>> The charges that was brought upon me.

[00:02:51]>> All right. Well, you indicate in this pre-sentence report that you really didn't do anything, >> that you you didn't you didn't know anything about those drugs that were taken into the jail beyond the blood pressure medication. um >> that you had uh permission to uh have your uh sister's cards that you that you uh [clears throat] >> Those were my cards.

[00:03:25]>> And uh [clears throat] so you didn't really do anything wrong. So what is it you're taking responsibility for?

[00:03:30]>> Um [clears throat] Yana, those were my cards. Um I do >> they have your sister's name on them?

[00:03:36]>> No, they had my name on them. Katherine Harris.

[00:03:40]I just use my sister name when that was spoken to at Walmart.

[00:03:45]>> Um, far as the drugs, you honor, that was my proper take that behind my high blood pressure. Um, >> that was in that purse, right?

[00:03:55]>> That that you that that you said belonged to your sister, right?

[00:04:00]>> The p my my blood pressure pill was in a a bag >> in the purse.

[00:04:05]>> Ziploc bag. Yeah. I put it to in the side of the purse cuz I got the purse out because I didn't want nobody to just look in there think money was in there and I think it was a piece of pipe. Um like they say cocaine residue was on like a piece of glass from a pipe.

[00:04:21]>> All right. Well, >> where before you put the the blood pressure medication in the purse, where did you have it?

[00:04:28]>> In my pocket.

[00:04:30]>> Why did you take it out of your pocket?

[00:04:32]Because when I got out to use the bathroom to go in, when I sat down on the toilet, you know, I didn't want it to fall out, so I just stuck it like >> on the side of the pocket purse.

[00:04:43]>> Yeah.

[00:04:43]>> So, who who was it that that you went to Walmart with that day?

[00:04:48]>> Um, it was my [clears throat] sister.

[00:04:50]>> What sister? What's her name?

[00:04:51]>> Cassandra and her boyfriend.

[00:04:55]>> Yeah. And I stayed in the car cuz I wasn't feeling good. And I was just asking them what was taking so long. And they were like, "What we doing?"

[00:05:00]>> Where is Cassandra now? She's in Alabama.

[00:05:04]>> What was she doing at Walmart that day?

[00:05:07]>> Well, they came up here to visit. They was a relative had a funeral. They came I had a previous incident with that store. I didn't even I don't even go in there without they was taking too long.

[00:05:20]And then the officer said that the lady said that I had to show receipts and I kept calling them and nobody answer. And they left me and they said, "We need the bags." And I gave it back to them. I didn't want no problem.

[00:05:33]>> Where did they why did they give you the bags to take?

[00:05:35]>> When I came in the store, I met them to see what was taking them so long and they was had their buggy with the bags.

[00:05:41]So I they were like, "We done. We got to go back and get something else."

[00:05:44]>> Where did they go?

[00:05:45]>> They said they had to get some school supplies. So I took the bags onto the car. And when I went back to the stores, he you know the officer was coming towards me and he said the young lady said I didn't have a receipt but I had spoke to the officer and was talking to the officer on my way out and he was like we need the bag. I said sure. I gave it to him. I'm like they need to call them told them they needed the receipt and nobody answered and the security lady said um your ride has left you.

[00:06:15]>> Where' they go?

[00:06:16]>> They left me at the store. Where they went? I don't know. After that, they just left me at the store.

[00:06:23]>> No.

[00:06:23]>> You ever done this before? Use Cassandra's name?

[00:06:26]>> Um, once I did it cuz I was pretty mad, John. I'm I'm not going to lie. I was mad because they I felt like I was a fall guy and it's, you know, I know people do a lot of things. I have done a lot of things in my life and I got my life. I turned it around. And >> so, had you ever done that before? Used her name?

[00:06:46]>> Used Cassandra name?

[00:06:48]I I think so.

[00:06:50]>> You think so? Or you did?

[00:06:51]>> I don't. Yeah, cuz I used her name.

[00:07:00]>> I just thought they wanted to talk to me, you know, by the people at Walmart.

[00:07:05]>> Okay. But why did you >> Oh, because they left me and put me in, you know, they set me up for that. They left me. They went answer the phone and bring their receipt. You know, I know.

[00:07:14]I'm trying to figure out why you plead guilty if you didn't do anything wrong.

[00:07:19]>> Um because I felt like that was the way that I can get my case over listening to my attorney. He said that's the best thing for me to do.

[00:07:28]>> That's what Mr. M >> Well, if if if you had done these things, that was a pretty good result, pretty good resolution of the case. If you had done these things, problem is you you're insisting you didn't do these things. No, I was but I felt they I don't know how to put it.

[00:07:47]>> I I don't know how to put it. Yes, I did push that buggy out that store. I sure did. But when they said they needed a receipt and I didn't go in there and get anything, I gave them their bags back because >> Where where were you uh living between the summer of '09 and the summer of 23?

[00:08:11]>> Yeah.

[00:08:12]>> Uh back and forth from Alabama to Cleveland. The 2023 I was here in Ohio.

[00:08:18]>> Right. You were in Willoughby Court for a theft.

[00:08:20]>> Yes. Mhm.

[00:08:21]>> What did you do on that? What was that theft?

[00:08:23]>> That's what I'm saying. That's why that was that I had a problem with that once before. That's why I didn't go in that store.

[00:08:29]>> I know. What you stole from Walmart?

[00:08:32]>> We went through the um check check out line.

[00:08:36]>> Uh-huh.

[00:08:38]>> Yeah. and a couple things that we didn't pay for.

[00:08:41]>> Who's we?

[00:08:42]>> Oh, some friends that I used to hang with that I don't see anymore. You know, >> what about this this uh robbery and drug possession in Kyogre County that you're on probation for?

[00:08:54]>> That was what happened there.

[00:08:55]>> I um gamble a lot. That's my problem.

[00:08:58]And I never rob nobody, your honor. They had had it the CHH police put it like a robbery. Somebody said, "I took $40 from this lady." And that's a lot of people I help out when I got it. And some when I don't give it to them, they do a lot of things to me. Just like over here in this jail. I have been through so much in this jail till I feel like you just sentence me to death. That's just how I feel right now.

[00:09:23]>> So what why did they charge you with robbery? Why did you plead? Did you plead guilty in that case?

[00:09:28]>> I don't know.

[00:09:29]>> Or did you go to trial?

[00:09:31]>> I didn't go to trial. No.

[00:09:32]>> So you plead guilty to robbery?

[00:09:34]>> Yes, I did. that I was doing trying to get it over with.

[00:09:37]>> So, what happened? What was the robbery?

[00:09:38]>> The um the girl owed me $20 and she was hesitating to give it to me and my Uber ride was waiting for me. And so, I sort of like got, you know, while she was trying to give me the money, I was like, "Hurry up." So, I got the wallet and got my own $20. And I see on there they said 40, but it was 20. And then I left with her boyfriend. They do drugs. [music] They the boyfriend or the nephew or whatever pushed her up to say that I'm in the in the apartment gambling and I'm outside talking to CHH police that they robbing me while I'm in there, you know.

[00:10:15]But no, it was I don't I ain't that bad.

[00:10:20]No.

[00:10:20]>> What was the drug possession? What did you have?

[00:10:22]>> They It was a garbage. It was some garbage that they looked through the um I don't know what it was. I didn't even see it. It was >> What apartment was it? It was um my friend's boyfriend.

[00:10:33]>> What? So, you didn't do anything on that?

[00:10:35]>> I'm talking about the the what now?

[00:10:37]>> Well, you were from what I can tell, you plead guilty to robbery and drug possession in Kyhoga County.

[00:10:50]>> Yes.

[00:10:52]>> Okay. So, what you're telling me is you didn't commit the robbery and you didn't have any drugs. It was in a garbage can in the apartment that wasn't yours.

[00:11:00]>> It wasn't It wasn't in the garbage can.

[00:11:02]It was like when they cleaned the table off and a small um >> Why Why did they charge you with that?

[00:11:10]>> Because when they came in, I had the garbage in my hand. You know, we cleaned the table off to get the um table clean to play cards.

[00:11:20]And they picked the bag up and started looking. It was I don't know what was in it, but they said it was drugs. And like I said, listening to my attorney, I wanted to do a trial, but they said it would be bringing them in. You know, listening to attorneys, just wanted it over with. I My life is not like that.

[00:11:38]You >> Well, looks like it's like that for the last few years. I mean that's yeah I could say I had a little bumps and bruises the last few years cuz my kids got grown, moved out, had too much free time and started going back to the old crowd and you know and >> was there a Miss Canals was there a victim impact statement received from uh Cassandra?

[00:12:02]>> There was not your honor. She didn't call me.

[00:12:05]>> You did you speak with her?

[00:12:06]>> I did.

[00:12:07]>> What did she tell you? Uh, she asked if she had to complete the statement and I told her she did not. And then she told me that her sister does this all the time and she wishes she was a stopper.

[00:12:18]>> My sister didn't tell me that.

[00:12:22]She told me that you guys was trying to get her to press charges on me and she didn't want to. And that >> what what two guys?

[00:12:30]>> I don't know who she spoke to, but she told me that they kept calling her and said, >> "Well, they didn't press charges on you. The police arrested you and charged you."

[00:12:38]>> I know. She said that they was calling her to press charges on me, getting her to press charge on me. And she said she told him no, she didn't want to do that.

[00:12:47]>> When they sent her the package and stuff, >> what >> she said they sent her a package.

[00:12:52]>> Did you When did you talk to her?

[00:12:54]>> I talked to my sister all the time.

[00:12:56]>> Did you How did How did they discover that you were actually Catherine Harris instead of Cassandra?

[00:13:04]>> I don't know. Right. Well, did Cassandra call you or did you call Cassandra when you were in the Kyogre County Jail?

[00:13:49]>> Well, I'm I apologize. I like I said, I went towards the wrong direction. I've been doing so good in my life, especially when I found out I had this heart trouble and stuff. Like I said, I was just angry. Why? Why are you causing such a ruckus in the jail all the time?

[00:14:06]I'm not causing ruckus in the jail, your h I'm a peacemaker. I don't care what my background show. I'm a peacemaker. You got people in jail. We got to live together because we all house together.

[00:14:19]You got some people in a group that want to take control over TVs, tablets, and when I get to saying stuff like share, they get mad and secret kite me.

[00:14:30]>> Well, I mean, there's simple things that you just won't comply with.

[00:14:34]>> What is that? I comply with any and everything. I give them the utmost respect. March 6, [clears throat] you were uh you were charged with a you were locked down for 23 hours because you you weren't ready for the headcount.

[00:14:51]>> I had just got to jail and I didn't know how it went.

[00:14:56]Okay.

[00:14:59]You notice every time I'm locked down is by Anderson. I mean for nothing. I don't even Sergeant Co Anderson. I don't even know why I be getting moved from different sales. People do different.

[00:15:11]You got inmates jail. You surrounded by different type of >> be you got one, two, three, four, five, >> six different things on here, >> right? And tablets, TV, the sergeant.

[00:15:23]>> Usually if I have a sentencing and there's one that that's unusual. You got six.

[00:15:29]>> It's not my fault, your honor.

[00:15:31]>> I know nothing's your fault.

[00:15:32]>> Yeah. I mean it's my only sir when I talk biblical to people like get along and let's share we got to live together these people get mad and then they write secret >> talking to them about this stuff >> they don't want to hear it why you talking to them about it >> because you got black and white that's simple black and white let me just say it then it's we got black people and we got white people in the jail the white people want control over everything they want power over everything and when not speak up for us, you know, let us watch TV. Let us watch what we want to watch.

[00:16:06]Let us use a tablet. When they get up in the morning time, they grab two and three tablets for their friends. We don't have a tablet. You know, they say we all agree to watch a TV uh program.

[00:16:18]We can't watch TV. You know, it's not like I'm taking it a racial thing or that, but it's always about them. You know, we have other inmates in jail. Let us do something. Let all let's all come together you know and and and get an understanding of who can watch where who could do this kite like Sergeant said it's stupid you know Sergeant whatever he said you got it's only about TVs and tablets and you know I can't just these are young kids you know they group up they in a group they want the table all night with voices echoing you know and I don't want to look at it like it's a racial thing but let me say this here I've been through hell in that jail for no reason. I've been through hell in that jail for people riding kites on me by me respecting them, telling them words of encouragement.

[00:17:06]>> What did you uh what what was the drug that you had uh that you were charged with the conveyance with?

[00:17:13]>> Okay. It was a uh piece of glass pipe.

[00:17:17]>> What else was there? Anything else?

[00:17:18]>> No, it was a um sub uh they said a suboxin strip.

[00:17:21]>> All right. Where was that located?

[00:17:23]>> Um the suboxin strip was in between my credit cards. in between my cards >> in the shoe >> in my shoe. Those was my I had no purse.

[00:17:31]It was my business was in there because I had just left the med the hospital and I had all my stuff in my shoe. And like I said, I >> Where did you get the suboxin from?

[00:17:39]>> I who I got I think it from a guy just being around people saying, "Let me get one of them." You know, >> for what?

[00:17:46]>> For what? Why would he give you a suboxin?

[00:17:50]>> I don't know. People take suboxin, I think. And I was on because I be around a lot of white girls that do hairun and I would have probably gave it to them. I don't do drugs.

[00:18:03]>> I didn't have my pill in that suboxin that suboxin's a drug that you didn't that you just can't you you can't have suboxin unless it's prescribed.

[00:18:47]>> I took the suboxin. Like I said, I'd be around girls that do hair run and I know they be talking about suboxin and I would have gave it to them. I I >> You would You were just going to give it to somebody else.

[00:19:06]>> Well, you my conditions I've been I don't even do marijuana with my pacemaker and my diabetes. That's I stopped that. Only thing I do is I like to play cards. I like to play poker.

[00:19:16]Like I don't I mean, like I said, I did the wrong way of going back when my boys left home, but my life has been good, you know. I I've I've had a excellent I've been stable. I've been stable. I don't have a a hunky dory pass, you know.

[00:19:47]>> Cassandra might have just said something out of the way, but Cassandra know I don't keep using her name. She know my sister don't. She She probably just probably misunderstood Cassandra. I don't keep doing this.

[00:21:24]You got uh drugs in your shoe.

[00:21:29]a a pipe in the purse.

[00:21:40]>> So, >> oh my if you were presumably you telling me all that meant you were in the right place to begin with cuz you were just going along for the ride to Walmart.

Things of, you know, it's not how it happened. It's not the way they wrote it. It's not how it really happened. You know, I don't I don't >> That's the >> I don't know what to say. I don't know how to put it, but like I said, it it happened. It happened, >> right? But what you're telling me is these things keep happening to you and none of it is any of your fault or responsibility.

I don't know what happened in Alabama between uh nine and when you came here, but in 23 you got a theft out of this Walmart. [clears throat] Then in uh 25, you got a robbery and the drug possession and a falsification.

[00:24:44]And then you've got this thing. So that this seems to be a a long-standing issue for you.

[00:25:07]And I'm going to sentence you on each of these counts to uh 12 months in prison >> with credit for 71 days. Those sentences, those counts will be concurrent to one another.

[00:25:35]Violating any conditions of parole authority could return you to prison for up to 9 months for each violation up to 1/ half of my sentence. If the violation is a new felony, you could get an additional consecutive prison sentence.

[00:25:47]For the violation, the maximum of which is the greater of 12 months or the time left under postrelease control. The costs are assessed. The remaining counts are dismissed. Anything else?

[00:26:04]You too under Ohio Revised Code section 2921.36 subsection A subsection 2 attempted illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility. Section 2925.11, possession of cocaine. Section 2913.42, tampering with records, and section 2913.49, identity fraud. The court proceeded to sentencing following the defendant's guilty pleas to the amended offenses.

[00:26:45]The court's sentencing analysis focused on the defendant's criminal history, acceptance of responsibility, and suitability for community control sanctions. Although the defense requested community control based on the defendant's medical conditions, including diabetes and a pacemaker, the court determined that she was not amendable to supervision in the community. The court found that she continued to minimize or deny responsibility for both the current offenses and prior criminal conduct.
