Kane provides a sharp, evidence-based critique of nutritional reductionism by highlighting the crucial difference between total nutrient content and actual biological absorption. It is a necessary reminder that health is defined by metabolic context rather than marketing labels.

They Told Me These Were Healthy…They LiedAdded:
Man, this thumbnail.
Oh my goodness, man. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the channel again. Thank y'all so much for coming over. We are back on the Lily Kane channel.
>> [sighs] >> I'm so glad I found her channel cuz she is helping me out a lot.
Uh everything that I'm trying to get out of my life as far as food and stuff that's unhealthy or that I thought was healthy, she has helped me a lot.
This video here says, "They told me these were healthy.
They lied." In the thumbnail, she has all these vegetables, man.
And she talking about like is it being sprayed?
I don't know. Hey, we ain't going to waste no more time. Let's jump right into it.
What vegetable does vegetable oil have in it?
None. Zero vegetables. [music] There's literally no veggies in this vegetable oil. It usually comes from seeds like cottonseed, soybean, [music] canola, sunflower, safflower, and corn. And last time I checked, none of those are vegetables. Corn's not actually a vegetable, it's a grain.
>> yeah.
>> call it vegetable oil?
Marketing.
Back in the early 1900s, companies like Procter & Gamble wanted to sell cheap industrial seed oils, so they Gamble?
A company called Gamble? That's all you need to know.
slapped on the label vegetable oil because it sounded clean, natural, and healthy [music] like something you picked out of your garden, not something that comes out of a factory. But, here's [music] the kicker. This stuff is often chemically extracted, refined, bleached, and deodorized before it even lands in your food. And this stuff, it's everywhere. Chips, [music] salad dressings, nut butters, restaurant meals, vegetable oil is just a marketing trick to make it sound healthy when really these oils have been linked to inflammation, obesity, and higher risk for heart disease when [music] eaten in excess.
See what I mean?
Right now, we all got vegetable oil in in our in our uh cabinets.
I I'm hoping she's like like what is she going to say about olive oil? Please say something the uh solution. Oh my goodness, man.
I know we mainly use olive oil. So let let me see. Please. I'm Lily. I'm a certified nutrition health coach, and today we are pulling back the curtain on some of the biggest health lies I once believed. Starting with this sneaky little bottle right here. It's not made from real vegetables like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, or carrots, and it's definitely not great to cook with. I used to cook with it every day because it's cheap and labeled [music] as heart-healthy. But the reality, these sprouts or carrots, and [music] it's definitely not great to cook with. I used to cook with it every day because it's cheap [music] and labeled as That's what I said. I go to the grocery store, and you get this stuff that says heart-healthy.
Whether it was like oatmeal or just whatever.
Now now it's oh my goodness, man.
I just been bamboozled.
Damn, this sucks.
heart-healthy. But the reality, these oils are loaded with omega-6s. They're heavily processed, extracted with high heat and chemicals. This breaks down the fats and creates harmful compounds that can damage our cells and cause chronic inflammation. That's linked to everything from joint pain to heart disease. I thought I was eating healthy, but I was cooking with and eating this stuff constantly. Vegetable oil was the first health lie I fell for and now the second one is vegetables are the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet.
[music] We've all heard that the more veggies you eat, the healthier you'll be. But let's take a closer look. Okay, hello. Not that close. Back it up. Take carrots for example. They're famous for being high in vitamin A, but carrots don't actually contain vitamin A. They contain beta-carotene, a precursor that your body has to turn into vitamin A.
Now compare that to beef liver, which has the preformed vitamin A, the active form your body can use right [music] away. Veggies do have nutrients in them.
>> I heard about I heard you know, every man everybody may not like the taste of liver, but actually me and my wife were talking about that in the car the other day how liver is actually good for you cuz we were just having a conversation about what we grew up eating, what was being cooked in the house and I was like, man, we used to eat fried chicken at least three four times a week and she said that they used to eat liver a lot.
Damn, dude.
Yes, but not all nutrients are created equal and not all are as easily absorbed. Kale is high in vitamin K1, but your body uses the form vitamin K2, the form found in foods like cheese, egg yolks and liver. Mushrooms can be high in vitamin D2, [music] but our bodies absorbs vitamin D3 from salmon or eggs [music] far more effectively. So it's not just about what's in the food, it's about what your body can actually use. I used to think that eating a bowl of spinach was the best thing for me instead of just having a few bites of salmon. Turns out bioavailability matters. But now let's talk about the fiber lie. Fiber is so good for your gut. Eat as much as possible and I believed this. I added chia seeds to everything. I drank green smoothies. I bought fiber supplements that promised to Oh. sweep my gut clean, but No. that fiber is not always your gut's best friend. If your gut is already healthy, meaning you've got a good balance of microbes, then fiber can be great. It can feed bacteria and help them produce compounds that help with the gut lining and reduce inflammation.
However, if your gut is not in a great place, maybe you struggle with constipation, bloating, gas, stomach cramps, SIBO, leaky gut, irritable bowel syndrome, then piling on the fiber may make things worse because fiber feeds bacteria. And so if I cannot tell y'all how accurate this video is. I just heard the garage.
So my my wife just got home.
This video is so accurate because I'm taking fiber pills. I I literally just took some before I started this video.
Literally.
And she ain't lying.
Cuz boy, how she was sitting on that toilet, I damn near fell in.
That is crazy accurate.
Wow.
you have more harmful or imbalanced microbes in your gut, then you're feeding the wrong team. That can mean more bloating, more gas, more inflammation, more cramps. And in those cases, sometimes it can be better to reduce or completely remove fiber temporarily to give the gut time to heal, rebalance, and calm down. Once things improve, then you can slowly reintroduce fiber-rich foods to help support healthy bacteria again. But the phrase that fiber is so great for your gut just isn't true. It really depends on the state of your gut health. If your gut is more inflamed and imbalanced, then even the healthiest fiber-rich foods can backfire. The next health lie, the sun is dangerous.
Lather up or die. Growing up, I was always told the sun would give me wrinkles, dark spots, and eventually skin cancer unless I lathered up sunscreen every day, rain or shine. Now, don't get me wrong, skin protection is important, but here's what I didn't know back then. Many sunscreens contain chemical ingredients that when I spread them all over my skin and I sit in the sun, I'm basically marinating my largest organ, my skin, in chemical soup under UV radiation. To me, that just doesn't sound very skin protective. Here's the weird part, sunscreen use is at an all-time high and so are skin cancer rates. Now, maybe there's the rising rates because we're better at detecting skin cancer than we were in the past, but also it makes you wonder how our ancestors were out in the sun all of the time and nowadays most people are said to be indoors way more and most people are said to be vitamin D deficient. So, makes you wonder, wonder. Now, our skin needs sunlight to make vitamin D, which can help with our hormones, bone health, immune system, and yes, even [music] our skin. But a lot of people are terrified of the sun, afraid it's going to fry them like KFC chicken. Personally, I don't fear the sun. Actually, this [music] Lilly, she thrives in the sun.
And when I do use sunscreen, I'll use a clean, mineral-based, non-toxic sunscreen. And if you're worried about the sun, sun damage, sunspots, wrinkles, I actually didn't interview a year ago with plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn where he said >> I think that if you're talking to somebody who's like, "Hey, look, I live in a rural area. Let's say maybe I have a limited budget. I don't have access to a med spa or a plastic surgeon or dermatologist. What can I do at home that can really help [music] me to slow the aging process down?"
Red light therapy would be one of the first things that I would encourage people to do. There was actually a couple of studies that have looked at red light therapy and skin health and found an increase in collagen and elastin when you use red light therapy on your face. Usually, it takes a couple months to really start seeing those changes, >> [music] >> but it definitely can increase the collagen and the elastin in your skin.
Essentially, if worried about sunspots, then a red light face mask can help with sunspots, blemishes, fine lines, acne, wrinkles, and just overall the appearance of more glowy, youthful skin.
And if you'd like to check out the red light face mask that I use, I'll link it in the video description along with a discount code. I got this red light face mask from Boncharge, who is today's video sponsor. And how it works is I just turn it on, it becomes red, I strap it onto the back of my head with these straps, and then I can wear it while I'm doing my work, watching TV, doing the dishes. And I've had this mask for about 2 years, maybe 3 years now. My husband and I take turns using it, so it should be just a one-time purchase and last us a long time. Again, I'll leave a link in the video description where you can get a 15% off discount code with any of Bon Charge's products or you can use discount code Lilly at checkout for 15% off. The next health lie, don't worry about your food, just do more cardio for weight loss. For years I believed the secret to weight loss was one word, cardio. I was that person who would go on the elliptical, sweat for an hour, and then feel like a champion, come home and reward myself with cookies and pizza. Well, I stayed the same weight.
Then the guilt would set in and I would say, "Okay, you know what? Tomorrow I'm going to do even more cardio so that way I can actually see some progress." And then I'd come home again and I'd eat some junk. So, while cardio isn't bad, in fact, it's really great for our heart, mood, and overall health, when it comes to weight loss, cardio is just one piece to the puzzle. What you eat can play a huge role in fat loss. You can't out-cardio a bad diet. Right. So, absolutely exercise is important, cardio can be helpful for weight loss, but if you're relying on cardio alone for weight loss and not taking a look at what you're eating, then you might be working harder than you need to and might be becoming more frustrated than you should. Another social media health lie I fell for, juicing.
Juicing. Yeah, she not lying about that cardio, though. Cuz y'all I told y'all how I have some injuries. It's been difficult for me to like run. I haven't ran since August, but uh I also I mean like I don't play basketball anymore, but you know, walking walking has been so great for me. So, so great. I again, my diet is not where it should be, but it's good enough for me to eat.
Kind of keep my weight, but I'm I am trying to lose, so I just got to lock in a little bit more.
And you know, just your fruits and veggies to get all of those magical nutrients in one glass. The only way you could get me to eat a beet is if you mix it in with foods. And so my family, when I was a teenager, at the time juicing was all the rage, and they would juice beets, carrots, and apples together in a drink, and we all thought we were being so healthy. What I didn't realize back then is when you juice, you are stripping out the fiber, and fiber slows down how quickly sugar hits the bloodstream. And so without it, you can get a huge blood sugar spike. And then there's the thing about drinking your calories. Most people will consume more if they drink the fruits and veggies versus if they eat them. Like I can drink three apples like this, but if I have to chew and eat three apples, it's a little bit harder. The first time I saw how many oranges need to be squeezed to make a glass of orange juice, I was like, "Oh my gosh, this whole time I've been eating seven oranges when I have a glass of orange juice?" Yeah.
That's crazy. Now, I'm not saying that juicing is the end of the world. I think having a small glass here or there can be fine, but to think that juicing is like the healthiest thing, the ultimate health hack, not really. For most people, it's just a fast track to spiking blood sugars and overdoing it on calories without even feeling full. These days, I'd just eat the whole food fruit or veggie and let my body enjoy the fiber and nutrients the way that nature intended. Another health trend most of us have fallen for is eating a low-fat diet is the most heart-healthy diet you can eat. Now, I've actually interviewed several different doctors on this channel where I've asked them about the topic of cholesterol, high-fat diets, what causes heart attacks, how to create a strong healthy heart, and I ended up going through all those different interviews, grabbing the snippets and clips of that part of the conversation, and I bundled them together in a short 10-minute video, which I'll link right here. It's quite fascinating. Be sure to check it out, and if you enjoyed today's video, don't be silly, subscribe to Lilly, and I'll see you soon.
I'm so disappointed in those heart healthy signs, man.
Boy, they got me good.
Um I feel like, you know, if you are super serious and you want to get the best results and the fast the fastest results, you have to be really strict with your diet, really strict.
Uh but I feel like, for the most part, people going to have their slip-ups.
Um but like I said, as you as you get older and your diet isn't so great, it's hard to recover.
You know, injuries end up happening, all those things. It's not as easy as it was when we were younger and we could just eat anything and do it and play all day outside and all that. It's different now.
Our lives have slowed down, so we got to be very extremely careful with what we put in our body.
I'm trying, man. I'm trying really hard to take this serious.
It's just sometimes it get tough, man, cuz like I'll be wanting to try so many different foods and you'll be having these places that open up, and I wanted I was like, "Oh, this is a new spot. Let me go see what it is." And like, you can do that, but I mean, some people do that, and there's no working out at all.
You got to find it find a balance, but again, shout out to Lilly.
Um can't believe they lied to us.
I mean, I can't believe it, but damn.
All right, peace out.
