True expertise is shown by turning complex radar data into simple, life-saving information for everyone. This is a rare example of high-level science being used for public service instead of just showing off.

LIVE: Tracking StormsAdded:
Hi everybody. Coming up on 7:23 right now, I'm live here in the weather center tracking severe weather moving through the area right now. We've got some strong storms and a risk a risk for some of this turning into um you know some severe weather with gusty winds being the primary threat, but also we can't rule out uh the possibility of a spin- up tornado in this type environment. I want to tell you things are behaving so far, but we've still got a little ways to go before we're kind of out of the woods. Probably another hour and a half.
There's a couple of cells I'm watching here in North Georgia. So, please let me know where you're watching from right now. Please share this with your family and friends. I got the chat up here so I can see your comments. There's a little share button right there. If you'll go ahead and hit that, share it with your family and friends. That'll help more people see this, more people um you know, heed the potential of some warnings. And speaking of warnings, uh let me know this is coming through loud and clear. I think you guys can hear me. All right. We've got a stronger storm across Greenville County. It's now moving through Greer, uh Taylor's P-sized hail as we look at Lyman, Spartanberg. That's kind of the leading edge of storm number one. Uh we're watching some of this activity though that's in North Georgia. Uh it is really packing a punch right here near Blue Ridge, Blairesville. Uh this is in fact a severe thunderstorm warning. Uh it's got winds up to 60 miles per hour. Uh we do have a watch in place right here. As I look at the text with this severe thunderstorm warning, it's radar indicated uh wind gusts and hail right now. They do not have, it appears, a tornado possible tag on this, but I'll tell you, this is a beefy storm as it moves off toward the east. So, we'll be watching this as I put it in motion. You can see just how strong that is as it moves on through the area right there toward Blairesville, Hayawasi, uh, and very shortly into Raven County. That will eventually cross out of, uh, Georgia and go into Aone, Pickkins, and Greenville County if it can hold together. So, we'll be watching that closely. You guys should know that there is a tornado watch in effect for the area. Now, a tornado watch means conditions are favorable for a tornado.
Doesn't mean that there's one on the ground right now, although that is a possibility as we move deeper into this evening. U I think we're going to see this kind of peak now through about 9:00 and then between 9 and 10, there's still some areas that are a little suspect that I'm watching and then things kind of come on down as we go deeper into the forecast. But you see there are some severe thunderstorm warnings uh in North Georgia uh that are close enough to us that I've got those turned on for our alerts that you can see at the bottom of your screen as well as that tornado watch that is in effect. Okay, so let's go through some of the different u severe parameters, some of uh what I'm tracking right here. And again, let me know that you guys can hear me loud and clear and that uh this is coming through just fine. And I'll switch things over to the models at this point um as we move on through. Uh, looks like my computer's trying to freeze on me.
Hopefully not. What are you doing to me?
Getting the the Mac spinning rainbow.
There it goes. We're back. Okay. What you're looking at here is the highresolution rapid refresh model.
Okay. Uh, HRR as we call it, or as John used to always say, her the her. Um, it's done a really nice job at kind of sampling the atmosphere uh, as we've as we kind of see it right now. Uh, National Weather Service indicate there's some uh, let's go through eight, nine. Here's nine o'clock. Severe weather here and there. Uh, some of you guys are saying I'm glitching. I don't want to hear glitching. Oh, man.
Make sure I'm on the right Wi-Fi here at the company. Uh, yeah, I'm on the good.
This as it moves through. Looks like I am glitching in and out. Not good glitch in the algorithm. It just stopped. All right.
Hi everybody joining right now. Starting a new live. It appears we had a little glitch. Uh I've refresh the system. I I hope that uh can help get us back up and running. So let me know uh if this one's a little bit better. Are we coming through louder and clearer? I don't know.
It looks like it's okay.
Trying to refresh my own phone. What's going on here?
Either way, I'm going to show you the models. I'm going to show you the radar.
We're watching this sell in North Georgia. I mean, it's it's packing a punch. It's it's certainly it's certainly letting everybody know it's there. Um, all right. Resetting everything. Let's see if this goes through. So, uh, let me know. Let me know.
There we go.
Looks like we're up. Okay, I'm getting some thumbs up. Looks like everybody's back. We're cooking.
We're back to it. Um, okay. Yeah, more back through North Georgia. All right, so let's get to radar first. I want to show you that.
Got a couple of warnings right here. A warning is issued for our area. You'll see it. You'll see it pop up. So, what we've got right here is some scrub stuff. This is this is this is some heavy rain. You probably heard it come through. Maybe a couple of claps of thunder through Greenville, Malden, Simpsonville. We'll be watching that.
But the main kind of core of this severe concern is moving through Georgia, uh but through Malberry, Lawrenceville, Gainesville, moving right along the I85 corridor right here. Then you also got this bad boy that's up through parts of Blairesville. Uh this warning goes another 15 minutes or so and I' I'd expect it to continue. That is heading toward Chattahuchi Coney National Forest, Helen, Georgia. Uh and it's pretty rough and rowdy up that way.
Still laggy. What is going on? I might have to reset the whole computer. I don't want to do that. You guys are saying you can hear me. Some of you are saying you can't hear me. Okay. Don't love it. Don't love that. Why don't I uh get to the warnings right here? You got that? Let's switch over to the model.
Let's look at what the model's doing here as we move on through.
