The video offers a grounded perspective by distinguishing between mere athletic performance and long-term biological health, particularly regarding neurological risks. It correctly frames longevity as a holistic outcome of lifestyle and social integration rather than a simple byproduct of physical exertion.

The Truth About Athlete Longevity (Best and Worst Sports)
Added:I watched one basketball game and now I'm running and I'm going to live to 300 years old.
>> The power is within us. We can make [music] this better. Forget divide and conquer. Weather the storm together.
>> I used to be an avid basketball and hockey fan, but once I moved to Thailand in 2017, I was like, I no longer live in Toronto.
I don't care. I have no cable TV. I can't even watch your games anyway, so it's like the Toronto Raptors and Maple Leafs died in my life and in my heart.
And so I was like, okay, we're done with sports. And I didn't watch. I didn't care. When I came back, the Raptors were in the playoffs and we had cable, so I was like watching it and we won the whole thing that year and didn't really care much. It's like it's a very empty thing to care about sports.
Like it's meaningless. Your team wins or loses, your life doesn't change. Even if you win the whole championship, the very next day you're going to be like, yeah, whatever. What's next?
So it's like it's such a waste of time, but for whatever reason, this year in Kingsville, I'm losing my mind and the NBA playoffs start and I'm like, okay, let's see Raptors. All right, we're in it. So I would just watch the highlights the next morning. I'm not going to spend 3 hours watching all this programming and such a waste of time and it's on so late. Like I'm trying to get to bed by 10:00 and all your games go past 11:00, sometimes overtime and it's like, I'm not staying up watching this, getting all excited [music] and nervous.
So it's like the next day I'll watch a 10-minute highlight of what happened.
Hopefully I didn't ruin the [music] results.
I didn't have a stroke mid-sentence.
So that's when that's my life now. And so during this NBA playoffs run, I'm watching some games here and there and for whatever reason I'm looking up like things about sports and all these older athletes I remember and I was looking up old basketball players.
I'm thinking like, okay, is he still alive? Michael Jordan? Yeah, he's still going.
All the guys from the older era.
I was noticing the ones that did die, died late, like 80s and 90s, like respectable lives. Usually, the life of an athlete is like cut pretty short.
Like bodybuilders, you're never finding like, oh, there's that 120-year-old bodybuilder still going.
It's like Arnold Schwarzenegger, I don't know how long he has.
It's not going to be 90 years, but it was just a pattern I was noticing of all these basketball players living quite long.
And I was like, why is it the running?
Like they're all into cardio. It's like, okay, they have good heart health.
They're not dropping dead of heart attacks, at least, unless [music] they got those Woah. So, I was doing some research.
Apparently, gymnasts live the longest, and it's a strength-based sport with zero cardio whatsoever, but if we ignore that data, and I think we should, it's the [music] really like the concussive sports, like football. You get all these concussions, and like the average age is like [music] 50 years old or something. They just drop out, like they're dead. Your brain has been damaged over the course of your career.
And NHL [snorts] is quite a contact-heavy sport, so they're not known for longevity, but basketball, you don't really get hit that much. It's just it's mostly running, skirting around, shooting balls. But it just got me thinking, moving the body is probably [music] a good thing. I did enjoy I started running last year in Toronto, and I was doing it all winter long, even [music] like shirtless in minus 25° weather. I don't know why I was doing that. It was like a Wim Hof thing, but he's a criminal, and that's probably killing [music] me, but this summer in Kingsville, I just doing it again, and feels good. It's I'll be honest with you. I've never really noticed much benefit from running. [music] Like, I just I jog, I get a sweat going, it does not improve my skin, my digestion isn't improved. Like, almost nothing happens except my legs feel a bit stronger.
But, I could, one day, feel benefits, and I think it's a good thing. And basketball players sometimes live long, and they run. And so, I'm going to run and [music] live to 300. I mean, there's a lot more important factors for longevity, like [music] having a nice community, and you're laughing a lot with all your friends, and that's like probably number one, and then there's the diet, and getting sunshine, and like there's all this stuff.
Who cares? Just go play basketball. But, that's why I started running again, and I'm flubberized anyway, it'll probably help. Just like burn off some of the flubber mass around my gut.
So, it's like, okay.
This could be good. And I enjoy doing it. I really enjoy going for a little run, and then like ending up at a berry patch.
That's fun times, and you're sweating. I feel like it should be so good for the skin. I just I've never actually seen [music] that work.
But, like, you sweat it out, and you're good. Some people, like, they start running, [music] and their life is changed, and it's like, I can't believe how good I feel once I started running.
I'm like, I never [music] felt one benefit. What do you Maybe I don't go long enough or hard enough. I [music] really do do a slow jog for about 2 and 1/2 km, and then I come home.
But, I'm not going harder. Like, I I went hard in the beginning, my ankles were hurting. I was like, no. And then, I learned the slow jogging of Japan, [music] and it's like, okay, old man pace, never get any knee or ankle pain like you longevity people [music] running like marathons.
How are your knees now? Not good, are they?
>> [music] >> So, it's like I think of that. So, I'm not trying to pound the pavement for hours fast. You go slow, things are good.
And then maybe you get no [music] benefits whatsoever. There's a lot of sprinting in basketball.
I don't sprint. I I jog slowly acquiring zero of the benefits of movement.
But still 300 years, anyone?
That's me.
Thank you for the thumbing up the video.
You could thumb it down, but we all know it's because you sometimes run to bring cats to different neighborhoods.
That's not very ethical, is it? Oh, you find a cat. Let's go for a run, Here is your new home.
He'll find his place home, unlike you.
You stupid ass, you don't have the instincts of a cat. He can smell rat meat, and he'll come to your house cuz you're a carnivore, you stupid rat meat Olive, thank you for the Bitcoin donations.
