[00:00:00]Kurtzman initially conceived of the film as a way for K & B to show off their animatronic and makeup work, and because this ended up with a bigger budget than he was anticipating, they really go ham with a ton of really great vampire and gore effects. As awesome as the practical effects work is here, I do have to admit that some of the CGI morphing effects are pretty dated. Not enough to ruin the movie, but every once in a while they'll pop up to remind you you're watching something made in the mid-90s. Still though, the other effects are a ton of fun. You can really tell that Rodriguez and the K & B guys had fun with the extra budget and really indulged in different crazy ways to kill the vampires. You have them getting impaled on table legs, getting stabbed by pool cues, and hey, it turns out you don't even need to stake him in the heart. Instead, you can rip them out Mortal Kombat style and then stick it with a pencil.
