[00:00:09]The Khmer Rouge, led by Pol Pot, declared year zero, the complete reset of civilization. Cities were emptied overnight, money was abolished, schools were closed. The educated were marked for death. [music] Doctors, teachers, engineers executed. Anyone with soft hands was suspected of not being a manual worker. Wearing glasses was enough to be killed. Children were recruited as soldiers and ordered to kill their own parents. In four years, [music] the Khmer Rouge killed up to 2 million people, a quarter of Cambodia's entire [music] population. Pol Pot was never executed. He died peacefully in his sleep in 1998. This is the history they don't teach [music] in school.
