The Wolverhampton Pillar, standing 14 feet high in the grounds of St Peter's Collegiate Church, is one of the last and oldest remaining Anglo-Saxon monuments in the West Midlands region. Dating from the 9th or 10th century, this pillar was originally the shaft of an Anglo-Saxon high cross erected after Viking raids in the late 8th century. The pillar features seven bands with carved animals, latticework, vine scrolls, and Ancient Greek-style acanthus. It is believed to have been taken from the Roman city of Viriconium near Wroxeter by Anglican carvers. The pillar was cast in plaster in 1877 and displayed at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and is considered the only surviving example of a southern continental baroque style cross in England.

There is one of these, a replica of it in the British Museum. In the late 8th century, Vikings came to Britain and they started taking over and pillaging and stealing stuff. And in the 9th or 10th century, this pillar was erected. I think it would have been a cross at the time, but this is all that remains. I am right in Wolverampton city center. The gardens here at the church are so special and historic. Let me show you.

Wolverampton didn't become a city until the millennium. It was a millennium city. It's the year 2000. It became a city, but the Anglo-Saxons were hanging out here in the 8th and 9th century.
