Karen's very happy.
Yeah, this >> our little baby first appearance. And this already a heartbeat. Yeah. Very small.
Like I saw it in monitor and I'm so happy that she's okay there. All right, Karen got her first blood draw of the pregnancy today. Was that the first blood draw of your life? No, I did like five more five times more already.
You've done that five times? Yeah. What did they run? Did they run you for diabetes before? Blood sugar or what?
>> No blood sugar. That my uh my blood type and also for my uh UTI. I think that's what Okay, they ran it before. Okay. Yeah, and then earlier she get my blood like this big Yeah.
>> full A vial? Yeah. A vial of blood. So, Karen's got her first blood draw of the pregnancy.
The doctor didn't put uh the It says June on the on the on the ticket. Yeah, maybe it's too small pa. Okay.
Yeah, I like it here, guys, because it's fast. It's only like two to three hours the result of everything. I think I have six or seven tests that I need to submit to my doctor.
And then if I compare to other uh clinic, it's much faster here. That's what I like only here, guys.
Two to three hours is fast for me because I uh experienced before they test my blood and everything.
Uh it took like half day of wait.
For example, they test you eight, you will go back one or two.
Right, B?
Can we go to McDonald's, B? No, McDonald's. You're too hefty.
No, I'm not heavy. I'm only 54 kg. Oops.
All right, let's go to McDo.
I know you like it, too.
But, I'm not supposed to eat it.
Jim said that he's diet, but when it comes to McDonald's, it's always yes.
Palibog public market.
It's getting beautiful now.
>> beautiful.
Sweet behave.
>> [music] >> All right, well, you were so fearless with that blood draw.
I guess you deserve a little McDo treat.
I didn't eat 12 hours. Wow. I Yeah, 12 hours. Where's the unlimited rice? No, I need to eat this. Okay. Not good. Not good?
I thought it was manami. Chicken fillet is much healthier.
Sorry.
For you?
I have ice cream.
Your doctor told you that you can have McDo, just not every day, right? No, I don't eat every day. Yeah, as a treat. Yeah. Okay, so don't get on us, guys. We know. We know.
All right, so this um McDo meal, for you guys that are interested in what things cost over here, was Where is it, Karen?
Where's the total?
400 423? Yeah.
>> [clears throat] >> 423.
So, I had a double cheeseburger. Karen bought some kind of What is that?
Sundae.
And she had uh two two pieces of chicken and rice. And I had the combo meal.
So, there you go.
Good Oh, she's waiting for me to finish, looking very pathetic. What's wrong? Now you're smiling. What?
More rice.
>> More food? Yeah, that's what I thought.
You want more rice.
Are we going to stop and get some mangoes?
I want mangoes. They're so tempting. I want to stop and eat a mango right now.
I can't wait for them to finish that market. That's going to be pretty cool.
Oops.
Why are you running that?
James have fertilizer in front of him, guys.
I'd like to get spreading the fertilizer.
I need like a little tiny scoop. Is there such a thing?
It's like like Yeah, yeah. Like like something that would be like three spoonfuls at once. About that size. Is there anything like that? A laundry scoop? You guys don't use those here.
The dry laundry comes with something like that.
You know what? Like a 2 T cup a bottle.
A 2 T. You see that yellow one there?
You want to cut that?
>> that cut cut off would be perfect.
Okay.
Uh it's on the motorcycle too and on me.
Ooh, you might spill.
So, update to our corn, guys. James have a fertilizer there.
And he's putting now preparing the fertilizer because it gets wet inside.
And put each of the corn because they need it so badly because they look so pale.
They are not very green. They are like yellow green so they need fertilizer.
And Turns very happy.
Yeah, there's >> Niniput's first appearance. And this already a heartbeat. Yeah. Very small.
And I saw it in monitor and I'm so happy that she's okay there.
Even now we are always having adventures, she's still she's still kicking there. She's moving a little bit and I'm so She's already for adventure already. All right, good good.
Very strong. Very strong like James.
And there's two rice.
>> believe what you're doing here. So you're ordering an extra quarter pounder. I I I ordered two rice, one fried chicken and this one. Wow, Little Niniput's really starving I guess. Go ahead.
Whatever you feel like eating. Yeah, go ahead.
You're spoiling me.
And you're eating for Little Niniput, too?
673 Wow.
Expensive having a kid in the Philippines? Yeah, expensive if you're not going to go for a church on the mountain.
>> [laughter] >> I hear you. All right, all right, all right.
Oh, okay.
All right, there you go.
Hopefully after that you won't be hungry for 15 minutes.
15 minutes All right, here's uh Little Niniput's feed.
Yeah, I ordered James' apple pie.
I don't know why you're ordering me extra food. I'm not the one eating for two.
You did a great job.
So you have to this What is she eating?
>> So, you have the this one or this one?
This one? I don't know. I have lettuce and tomato. You got lettuce on yours?
And I have rice. Well, maybe this one's mine. No lettuce.
>> is yours.
You have double patty.
All right, cool. I get Chow down.
So, you ate all your chicken already.
Yeah.
Next This is my dessert. Two lunches already. Yeah.
That's a medium. This is big big one.
Yeah, nice. Good.
Nice tomato on there and lettuce.
Good stuff.
Yeah, it's like double already. I ate it.
>> know how you eat so much cuz I can't do that. I don't know.
What are we after? You're after watermelon? Yeah.
There's no energy. Apple apple. No apples for Jen? Yeah.
Okay.
Do we still have mango? Yeah.
What else do we need?
We have any squash?
I have squash left there. Okay.
I I just buy that squash.
Oh, I Ready?
Yeah, I just have a watermelon.
Just a watermelon, okay.
>> buy later in other the Okay, okay. We'll try to find apples.
There you go.
All right, we found the apples.
The same as the banana.
Apple. You got the apple.
So, that's I have no This is 10. This is 12 and that's 25.
How much are they? I can this one. Much cheaper here. 10 pesos for these? Yeah.
>> Okay. Okay.
So that my sister have a apple.
So Jen doesn't get a stomach ache.
She needs her apple a day. Yeah, my sister eating apple every day.
You know that's a saying in America, an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
You want to get anything else, Karen?
You want to get some ham tech from over there?
All right.
Plain donut?
Yeah.
Donut in this one? Yeah, I like those ones on the bottom there. Those are good. Only five pesos a piece, that's very cheap. I bought chicken earlier.
Good. I'm starving. Chicken and tomatoes.
>> You didn't get any ham tech though. No, string beans.
They plant their own.
I thought my cousin have it.
But they are >> Sold out.
They went to the fiesta.
All right. So we're here in the Philippines province. We've gone to the local town of Kalibo. Karen's had two prenatal visits. We we got our first ultrasound results read out yester- yesterday. She got it and got it read out. She got her uh blood test results examined. They tested for uh you know, like basic STDs, blood-borne disease. They tested for hepatitis. They tested for syphilis, HIV. They tested for uh uh kidney disease. They tested uh They They did They did a full blood workup. Uh The only thing Karen had an issue with uh she has no blood sugar problem. We were worried about diabetes. She doesn't have that.
Um she has a I I UTI. So and she's thrown a little protein in the urine and the the doctor said, "Well, we'll handle that.
We'll try first to OB says with water therapy." You want to explain kind of tell her tell the our audience all the things you remember. A great doctor, by the way. Be great in any country in the world. First rate doctor.
Um very uh privileged to have such a great doctor. So, tell tell them what your doctor told you. Yeah, the the first uh thing that the doctor said to me is that there's a problem in my one test, which is the urinalysis. And then because I have a UTI and uh instead of giving me antibiotics is she preferred to uh uh water therapy. And that's what I'm doing and I need to go back June 8th there.
So, that um she can check me again. And that's for my second prenatal.
And uh yeah.
I'm happy that the doctor is really good and everything is fine. The result, I have no HIV. I have no hepatitis.
I have no uh diabetes. And I That is >> worried. I didn't think you had hepatitis or HIV. But I was worried about the diabetes.
>> Yeah.
>> Which you do not have. Your blood sugar after your 12-hour fast was normal. It was where it should have should be.
>> And also I ask her about ampalaya or the bitter gourd because we planted a lot of bitter gourd guys. My mother planted there at the back. And then One of our commenters says, "Don't let Karen eat bitter gourd." And I looked it up on on Gemini and sure enough it says bitter gourd can like cause contractions. But we went to the the OB and I thought, "I'm going to win this argument." And she's like, "No. Oh bitter gourd is good for Karen." Yeah, because um that's what James worried before that it's not good for baby. Maybe it can cause miscarriage.
>> It's >> lot of iron. She said that it has a lot of iron and that as long as Karen's not, you know, she says as long as it doesn't agitate her bowels, she's not straining, uh she it's not going to cause contractions or anything bad. So, she can go ahead and in moderation eat the uh bitter gourd. Also, they were talking about the uh we were talking about papaya. Yeah, the papaya. Green papaya, according to to Gemini, is bad, but ripe papaya is okay.
>> Yeah, I know it because a papaya the ripe papaya is really high in fiber.
And uh but in moderation also, guys, I need papaya and pineapple if it's time for me to give birth or near to giving birth already so that um it's not difficult for me to uh labor. That's what my uh OB said and uh that kind of hospital, which is private, is not very expensive, guys. Very cheap.
>> Very cheap. Their laboratory >> She could go to the barangay and give birth basically at the local birthing center for free, but it only cost really a little bit of money by Western standards for the private hospital. And I just like the atmosphere there. They did a good job with Skyler. They did a Was that Skyler there?
They didn't No, it wasn't there, but it was with uh They did a great job with Nanay. They did a great job when you had uh What was wrong with you before?
No, I didn't I I consult in private.
>> Yeah, okay, you consulted there, but they they've just been very professional. We were happy to do business with them. Yeah. They've done right by us. And the doctor, the OB, when I met her around Karen's first visit, just awesome person. She knows what's going on. She you know, she knows the ropes, how to handle this her job, and we're you'd be hard-pressed to find a doctor that great in America.
Um so, I had seven tests. The first is the CBC with platelet count, which checks me for anemia or infections. And then with RH typing uh finds out my blood type and my blood type is B+. Yeah, you're B you're B positive.
>> yeah, I'm B positive.
>> Which is positive.
And the HBAG, which is screens for hepatitis B because that's really common here in the Philippines.
And that's really uh bad.
>> It's not so common up in the mountain cuz you don't have it.
>> Yeah. And then yeah, anti-TP syphilis test, standard routine screening.
And then yeah, the urinalysis, the FBS, fasting blood sugar. I'm okay there. And also the HIV test and it's all negative.
So yeah, that's not very very much, guys, because the problem only I I can go to public, but the problem is always delay and James don't want to wait.
>> bit dirty there. The people are a little [laughter] bit act a little bit like they're overworked.
And when you go to the private hospital, that they're cheerful. They're happy.
>> Because because in private is they rely to the patient.
>> Mhm. at the pay. Unlike in public that they have they work or not, they have already uh payment for that. So and it's always delayed, guys. That's here in Philippines. If you want to give birth in public, you should have a lot of patience.
Yeah, patience.
>> and a lot of expats are telling me that their wives did give birth at the local Burundang Hospital and the cost is zero.
So you can go that route if you choose to. Yeah, we can go there, guys, but here now I asked my mother, but there's a rules here in our municipality that if you are having your first baby, they don't accept it.
Especially Because we're far from Kalibo. Yeah, and then if there's emergency, we're far from Kalibo, so they are scared. It's okay if you're second, third, fourth.
And it's all normal. They can accept you.
So, that's only the Yeah. problem. And they give you a lot of injections or what do you call that? vaccines. So, I don't like that, too, because a lot of girls that I talked before, they are telling that they give like more than five vaccines.
>> All right. We don't need to get into all that. How about the ultrasound? Can we show the ultrasound report?
Yeah, here. I think here.
>> the video on YouTube? You made a little video on your phone of the uh Yeah, I took a video.
Here. That's the ultrasound pic. Oh, the ultra Okay, I'll get it. Pause for a minute.
Okay.
Here. Let me do a little pause.
All right. So, the ultrasound report.
This was the fun part.
Um It says there's a single pregnancy with a crown lump length of 23.32 mm dating to 8 weeks and 6 days of gestation. This was yesterday, so the estimated due date is December 24th, 2026, which is wild.
So, um everything was was perfect. No hemorrhage, 154 beats per minute heartbeat. And Karen got to see the baby move live.
Yeah. On the ultrasound. You want to show them? I'll hold it up. I'll hold it up. Tell them Tell them what your experience was while I hold it up. Oh, they use transvaginal uh ultrasound, guys, because if the baby's too small, um you need that kind of uh method. But if it's big, they only need the ultrasound outside. Well, they determined that everything was perfect, so >> happy that it's normal. The heartbeat is good. And yeah, it seems like she's move He or she is moving there, but they can >> yet. We don't know yet the gender because it's still too early. Even the doctor said The doctor also said to me that even I eat a lot, the baby won't change. But in like 8-month, 9-month, I should diet.
Okay. Because that that's the month that baby really expand the body. And and yeah, I mean you got a lot of good nutritional advice.
Uh you ate you ate two two lunches yesterday at McDo.
And you ate beef and manok and chicken, so and rice. So you you're you're eating everything. And you she's eating more than I can fit down, so I find that to be quite amazing. Yeah, I eat a lot than James. I ordered uh And she's the one that likes McDo. Yeah, I don't know why. Because maybe the baby like McDo. Before is now, if I eat some food, guys, I for sure I going to vomit.
I I I I feel like I want to vomit.
>> The baby knows that he he's American already. That's why he wants to go to McDo. Oh my goodness. Yeah, and we're so excited already for the baby. And December 24 is the expected or estimated uh due date for me.
>> you due date. Pretty crazy.
>> for sure that's early than that.
Because >> baby this baby is Aklanon, Ilonggo, American, and probably conceived on Leyte.
Oh my goodness, Leyte.
So the name will be Douglas if boy. No, I don't know about that.
>> [laughter] >> All right. So today, the cost of having this baby of the prenatal checks, the two prenatal checks, and the first ultrasound is 8,051 pesos, guys. 8,051 pesos. So >> many how much in dollar?
I don't know. We'll have to do the conversion and let y'all know.
Yeah, so thank you everyone for always supporting James and Karla Adventures. And hopefully, guys, you enjoy all of our videos and don't forget to comment, like and subscribe. It really help us a lot.
