Organic Farming in the Philippines: SAMAR| Growing Healthy Food From Wastes 🌱 No Synthetic ChemicalsAdded:
[music] [music] >> Welcome to La Mesa Farm. My place is so peaceful. Makes me want to stay here forever.
Having a farm makes me feel safe and living in a tiny house makes me feel like I'm always on vacation.
But there's still a part in my heart wanting to explore the world. Still want to see the other side of the world because I believe there's a unique beauty in every corner.
What I really dream of is visit an organic farm all around the world. But since I cannot afford yet, let's rather explore here in our region first. So today I will take you to an organic farm in Marabut, Samar. So let's go.
So this is San Juanico [music] Bridge, guys. It used to be the longest bridge here in the Philippines.
>> [singing] >> It [music] connects two provinces, Samar and Leyte. The story behind [music] it is actually very romantic.
But I don't have time to tell you because it's a very [music] long story.
So we are here at Promised Land Integrated Farm. They are located in Marabut, Samar. What if I told you chicken manure here turns into fish food, pig feed, and even grows more food?
Yes, even poop makes money here. On this farm in Samar, [music] nothing gets thrown away. Not leftovers, not waste, and not even poop.
Let's go and have a tour and learn from them >> [music] >> on how they grow food out of waste.
So these are the [music] food that they grow, guys. They have a lot of fruit trees and [music] here's one of them.
Uh it is called jackfruit.
Ate the jackfruit. [music] Most of their income are from jackfruit.
And they also have pineapples which is very [music] sweet. We tried it. And here is the passion fruit.
They also [music] have guava, guys, which is very nutritious.
They also have mangoes and bananas.
[music] I like how organized their farm is. They have [music] many huts and each one of them has um a purpose. Just like this one, [music] it's a farm tools. And this uh next one is for concoctions.
They also [music] use a natural mulch here.
It's a rice straw and I haven't seen [music] any plastic mulch which is very good.
So they grow different kinds of [music] veggies and look at the mulch, guys. They use um banana stem or we [music] call it bunny. They just chopped it into smaller pieces and we can also >> [singing] >> just cut it [music] into pieces. So aside from it retains moisture and hydrates [music] the plant even though it's hot it also give nutrients [music] to the plants as time goes by.
So this is where um they breed their black soldier fly larvae.
And [music] if you want to know more about it, just watch this video.
So this is a free food for chickens and fish [music] and then their waste goes to the azolla since it is high in nitrogen which is what the azolla needs.
If you want to know more about azolla, watch this video.
So they are also growing >> [music] >> broilers for chicken meat and they have native pigs. They also have um [music] the hybrid ones.
But it's good that they have this.
They also [music] have this crayfish.
Wow, this is really amazing. I really want to [music] learn on how to grow this um crayfish because they taste like lobster according to them. So [singing] what they feed [music] to their crayfish is the black soldier fly larvae. [singing] So they also have fish [music] here.
It's tilapia and koi.
I love tilapia.
>> [music] >> Best when deep fried. So this farm is still buying some feeds but they mix [music] um the feed with azolla and black soldier fly larvae.
But surely if ever borders will close, this farm can still sustain because they already have what they need. They just need to [music] expand it which is doable in their case. What I am very interested with is >> [music] >> um the crayfish. I really want to learn in growing them.
And the black soldier fly larvae because it's the key to success [music] in making your own feed.
So if you are from Samar >> [music] >> and you're looking for an organic farm where you can buy vegetables, fruits, and animal products follow their page so you can easily [music] contact them.
