Flash flood warnings are issued when thunderstorms continuously form or move over the same area, producing heavy rainfall that can cause rapid flooding; during such events, residents should avoid low-lying areas, stay off major roadways, and exercise extreme caution near water bodies, especially during holiday weekends when many people are traveling and gathering.

Showers and thunderstorms continue through the holiday weekend, flooding becoming a higher riskAdded:
Well, welcome back. We've had quite a morning here in the weather world. We were tracking a few tornado warnings.
Meteorologist Matt Barentine and I right now we have no current warnings, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't still keep an eye on the weather as we go on through the rest of our day. This is a current look at our radar picture. Lots of lightning with these showers and thunderstorms forming across the area.
are more coastal communities, especially in Gulf Shores, uh, Orange Beach, and then Pensacola, not too bad. Northwest Florida is just seeing a few of these thunderstorms start to kind of build up as we go on throughout the rest of this afternoon. But everybody else, it's been quite a rowdy morning for the most part.
So, I'm going to take a zoomed in look on our flash flooding right now. So, one thing to note is we do have two flash flood warnings in place for mo mostly Mobile County, Baldwin County, and into Clark County as well. This will go on through the afternoon because these are trailing thunderstorms. What does that mean exactly? Well, these thunderstorms are continuously forming or moving over the same area and this is from last night included as well. So, a lot of rainfall in parts of Sland. That's where we're seeing the most of it at this time. This is the estimated rainfall in the last hour. We've seen about three inches of rain recorded. We're also getting people sending in reports from their measurements at home where we've seen three plus inches of rain falling within the last couple of hours. So you can see here apparently around according to the I65 corridor area that is where we're seeing most of the rainfall. Now that is a big deal just because it is going into our holiday weekend. A lot of people are traveling. A lot of people are coming to us. A lot of people in the Fox 10 neighborhood are leaving the area to go see family for Memorial Day weekend. Just be careful because there's a lot of pooling on the roadways right now, especially the major roadways to get out of the area to come into the area. Now, on top of it, look how much rain has fallen within the last 24 hours. We had showers and thunderstorms moving through the area yesterday as well. We've seen nearly eight inches of rain in this area where we're already seeing that flash flood warning. So, that's one thing to note there. We've had a lot of rain yesterday and then more rain is falling on top of that which is creating that flooding and that pooling as well. So, you're going to want to be extra cautious on the roadways. You can also slip and uh slip with your tires as well. These are just things to need to think about. But here's a live look across the area right now. beaches. The one thing to note there is our rip current risk looks terrible. It is not very good out there.
We're starting to see single red flags waving out there. That's why we tell you to pay attention to those beach flags.
Everywhere else is looking dark and gloomy. On top of that, it is a very windy day overall. 20 to 25 mileph wind gusts thanks to this unsettled weather pattern we're having. Forecast highs today lower to mid 80s. More inland areas will be closer to about 80° just because we do not have much sunshine in place today just because it's very cloudy. afternoon planner. We're continuing to track showers and thunderstorms as we are going to be in the lower 80s overall. Here's a look at our beaches right now. A lot of people are there for Memorial Day weekend, but please, please, please be extra cautious out there and do not get into the water as we are seeing single red flags waving at this
