Rep. Ashley Hinson on why she proposed banning House members from stock trading

[00:00:00]I think serving in Congress or the US Senate should be a privilege, uh not an investment opportunity. And so, I do think we should be banning congressional stock trading. I have a piece of legislation that mirrors one that Bernie Moreno just did in the Senate uh to try to make sure we're banning prediction market trading in the house because ultimately, people are in tune with a lot of information that the the general public doesn't know. And so, to be able to bet on that and to make money on that, I think it's just it's just inherently wrong. So, I've been working on kind of the clean up Washington approach since I got there. I don't personally trade stocks. I actually made that decision when I was named to the Appropriations Committee because I wanted to send a signal to Iowans that hey, I am not making a decision any single decision or anything I'm asking for, I'm not going to personally benefit from. And I think that's a a critical I think step that I took that I think more members of Congress should take or we need to take the action of banning stock trading altogether.
