We talked about this Dan Dang old trailer since I DID THIS THING.
>> WE'RE GOING TO WATCH IT ONE TIME THROUGH, then we're going to break it down.
>> This was one of the last scenes.
>> Yep. That was animated.
>> That you would have no You would never believe how recently this whole shot was animated.
>> She's obviously a member of the Argonaut.
>> She's an Argonaut. Yep.
>> An ether whale.
>> That's an ether whale. Uh >> you can get that plushy right now.
>> In the world, this is an ad for a cruise company. Yes. that is basically showing the kind of adventures in the beginning of what you can experience, which is why it says find yourself, >> which is find yourself among the stars.
>> Uh, we even named the cruise line. I forget what name it. It's the same cruise ship from the announcement trailer.
>> Yeah. Um, didn't we didn't we'll >> turn it down a little bit.
>> Yeah.
>> Pike obviously, he's looking to space.
He's been grounded. His ship's busted.
Busted. He's lost himself.
>> He's traumatized. He's got a little PTSD here for sure.
>> The rain looking like stars starfield.
>> He remembers his memory. He's seeing memories of him. Again, that light is no power. And he wanted to imply that he knew Red. That Red is an old friend that somehow found him >> and he offers him >> a job. A job >> as a boundary. Apparently that shot of hand extending his hand was extremely challenging to get correct. your perspective. The perspective is really this is his first time meeting >> and you get the sense of their character from a second.
>> Yes.
>> Every half second is precious.
>> Experience the wonder of space but also exhaust friendship. That is not shaw confirmed.
I'm turning this down so that you can hear us better. Oh, sorry. It's all good.
>> No worries.
>> This is them going through a series of missions and bounties. You see Dandy back there.
>> So many things to say. Everything's just flying.
We're going to get there. We're going to get there. Chuckles laugh out loud.
>> The Walt and Fall of Ziggy.
>> The background is amazing. Ziggy just flopping the arms is always so funny to me.
>> Guys, >> guys, we'll talk more about more about that.
>> Um, >> Chem, they get mixed up in Chem, obviously.
>> And the best shot.
>> We needed one of >> We needed like why didn't you put an Akira bike slide in the original trailer?
>> They did. They did. And >> you know, we wanted to give every >> stay tuned for this shot.
>> Every crew member >> in this shot.
>> They they want we wanted to show off what they could do. And we wanted to show, hey, they're having success. And look, his gem is starting to start to heal.
>> Ah, here we go. The hero of the story.
The hero of the story.
>> All right.
>> All right.
>> Ah, there he is.
>> Villain.
>> Did you mention the bounty board?
>> Not yet. When we break it down.
>> I mean, they know that we'll revisit it.
Uh there are so many little Easter eggs in everyone's ship even.
>> Yeah.
>> And then >> and then this that shot is unbelievable.
>> Yeah.
>> And then you can see the home indicator on the >> walking. That's one of my favorite scenes in the whole thing where he's walking and they're getting in the shit.
>> I do have a grievance though.
>> I love that world design. The world.
>> What's your general grievance?
>> The fact that we made Kane fuckable.
Like why would we do that?
>> You got to have a hot bad guy.
>> Yeah, you have to.
>> And you have to bad guy. Kane, >> you thought you could get away.
>> Pike almost had him.
>> You're coming. No, >> you almost had him. Kane is like a Darth Maul with substance.
>> You know what I mean?
>> Where he shows up and immediately gets defeated to their perspective, >> but he's so cool you don't care.
>> This the lighting in this particular uh uh fight with the the gunclaw is just uh out of this world.
>> Gunfu.
>> Gunfu or whatever.
>> Yeah, not Gunplot. Gunfu. Thank you.
Thank you.
>> So good.
>> Um >> uh Good luck everybody. transformation.
>> Vicky was trying his best. He was doing okay.
>> Getting the color right on that actually was very recent.
>> Oh, I want to talk about the color of that shot.
>> Sometimes you got to go phase two and just let them know where they're at. You know, exactly.
>> Put them in their place.
>> Cheeky heroes.
>> Um, the shots that we knew we were going to have at the very very very beginning.
>> We knew we were going to have the dark night of the soul moment.
>> Yeah. Worded out the the story.
>> And then we're going to pause and talk about this next shot for 3 hours without stopping.
>> Yeah. Right there. Right there.
>> Oh yeah. So much to say.
>> And you know that things are good cuz the color's back.
>> The color's back. It was all red before.
What's happening?
>> What?
>> Hacking.
>> Pixel pop hero. He's in his burn phase.
Pop her hacking. He's hacking.
>> He's He's cheating.
>> He's cheat death. Cheat death.
>> He has strips.
>> Uh we wanted once again all of them to have their We It's a D and D campaign, so everyone needs to contribute to the defeat of the final boss.
>> Yes. Everyone has a hero moment >> and they've buffed they've been buffed by Pix both pixel and just the emergence of this Phoenix soul, you know.
>> Yep.
>> And all the remaining drones are gone.
And then this shot I want to talk about this.
>> That's so important. That's so important.
>> So important.
>> Yeah.
>> First time I saw this, I cried.
>> I mean I I cried I cried three >> specifically them all cashing made me cry.
>> And then what the result of what he's done >> Yeah.
I mean just >> and then of course wait a minute >> back to the beginning >> now it's so small >> but and it's also reality it's become reality >> theor fair comeback >> the box >> and then we come full circle I I mean >> I made I took four screenshots last night of the >> I saw your post I thought it was >> looking up Pike doing out them clapping and then Neon Odyssey and I made that the back four halves of my Instagram post cuz it's just so it's Sums it all up.
>> It sums it all up.
>> It sums it all up.
>> Go to nanrg.com if you haven't backed.
>> And look at Hank.
>> He's He's the cutest thing on the planet fucking thing in the world.
>> There's Ona Christensen. There we go.
Wild Blues in there for the background characters. Shashimi, >> you recognize.
>> And then of course >> So there it is, folks. I actually don't know how good the scrubbing feature is on OBS. We're going to try it. I think you might just have to be in pause, start, stop, start, stop, start, stop.
>> Yeah, I think that's a good idea.
>> Um, >> yeah. So, obviously, >> so these uh meteors um or comets uh are a direct reference to the comets that started our announcement trailer.
>> Yep.
>> That was a shot that Wild Blue did that then Nights at the light table and Doy Swift that that Doy Swift uh picked up on.
>> Yeah. Want to kind of rhyme with that and it has a similar kind of screen effect too. So to sort of marry those two trailers together, both important for this project.
>> All of this is diagetic. Of course, you can see that we're already looking at the billboard display. The the the the scan lines or the pixels that you're seeing there, it's diagetic from start to finish. That's why you hear the buzz, the hum of that display through the entire beginning here.
>> And we wanted to in an instant establish this is not just sci-fi, but it's science fantasy.
>> Yep.
>> So there's a planet with >> three rings around it. And there's also space and space whales.
>> And space is beautiful and bright and colorful.
The colorway here is inspired by the cover of the cosmic codeex. Yes. As in my wild blue. So it goes to show when you're working with partners kind of it all goes back and forth.
>> Yeah. Folks start um >> resonating with one another when you have when you have good collabor collaborator strong collaborator. Oh, I have another detail here. We we wanted a starf fighter pilot to be part of this ad to sort of rhyme with Pike's specialty of being this great pilot >> and seeing someone else sort of live his fantasy.
>> And we know the Argonauts are really big on propaganda. Yes.
>> And so like they really kind of do a lot of promotion. Dude, you >> Oh, I was going to say about the helmet before we continued. Uh no, no, I'm not going to make you do that.
>> Oh, it used to be terrible.
>> Yeah.
>> Um right here. Uh, I love the that the helmet is not just a crystal dome or uh or or helmet that way. You've got the almost like uh headphoneesque uh uh backing bar and and and around the ears and everything. I can imagine those being what emits sound when you're talking to your your other Argonaut friends or and that they add to the structural integrity. Like little details like that are choices that artists make that create depth and richness and robustness in the world.
And we've already seen it. Just a simple >> plucky charming.
>> Yeah. She needed me to join the Argonauts. I'd >> fold it. And she probably, you know, she's probably an actress that she's not 100%.
>> Well, and I think the the thing that's also interesting is that uh from a meta perspective, we're also telling you this is a space campaign cuz she's wearing a helmet. She doesn't necessarily need one.
>> In her ship, but she's still wearing a space helmet, which tells the audience that has never heard of this setting before what what they're watching.
>> Yep.
Um, and then we again we wanted to show the >> the grandeur >> the grandeur in the clouds, the ether clouds that you fly through. Obviously, we got more more sea creatures.
>> And I mean, yeah, >> with the ether whale. Um, >> you got to have an ether.
>> It's just the greatest animal in the galaxy.
>> And actually, it was great is that one of the uh and that was the result of one of the boarded or planned scenes in the montage. Yes.
>> Was going to be flying past time dolphins and space and ether whales and it got cut. And there was an amazing thumbnail that had the rap city flying instead of that ship in front of the ether whale coming out of the clouds.
>> And we're like, let's just bring it back. Let's bring it to the beginning.
>> Yep.
>> And so here's a bunch of different things. Uh uh Doy and Swift, I think. I I can't recall who painted these, but basically they just thought of fun little scapes. These are palm trees, but it's actually ice. A frozen planet.
>> A frozen palm tree wall.
>> A frozen geyser. Yeah. And you know, we see we see the the space cruise ship for the first time.
>> Uh some fun mushroom Arcadia world, >> some like cool Mario islands.
>> I think this feels Yeah, I I I get galaxy out of that.
>> And obviously we reveal Pike and show, oh, >> this is a screen, right? This is what's diagetic and in the world.
>> And he's not looking with awe.
>> Yeah. And then we start to see the actual propaganda. Find yourself among the stars. Yeah, we also knew that this shot would be what tells everyone, welcome to Neon Fucking Odyssey, right?
All of a sudden, he moves and it's like, oh, you know what? We're going to do this 24 four frames uh a second.
>> Let's fucking >> And we zoom out and look, he's in he's in a box.
>> Yep.
>> Thematically he's stuck. He uh you know, he's can't see Richie's cursor, I don't think. Oh, you can't.
>> Uh so what Richie is doing is he's he's highlighting the frame. You can see that there is a box that is framing the the perimeter of what we're seeing diagetically and that he is contained.
He's he's still stuck.
>> Um obviously this is a bit of an homage to um >> Blade Runner.
>> Yep.
>> Uh and the billboard there about go off world. Go off world. Um >> and the funny thing is is that actually there is technically if you zoomed out text advertising text on the top of all of those cranes.
>> Yes. And you just can't see it because you're zoomed in. But I wrote I wrote advertising copy. I wrote an ad for this cruise ship company uh that just got cut and because you know it's very >> it was too zoomed in, right?
>> And you know here we see Pike trying to fix the ship, right? Like which he's not a an expert at, right? But he he's trying to change his scenario and oh it works. Oh, >> it's raining probably a turbo uh uh space strange space fruit berry. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely definitely a red flavor.
>> Radical red flavor.
>> It's not just green. There's there's multiple flavors.
>> We've had our Bladeunner uh uh reference. We're going to get another one here real soon.
>> And we see that he looks up kind of wisfully at like, shit, I want to be out among the stars.
>> Y >> Damn it.
>> Y >> and he's a little defeated.
>> But it's raining. It's raining when it rains. You know, >> I love that kick. That brought me a lot.
>> It shows that it's very different. We don't have uh drinking canisters and we have paper in our setting. We have cardboard. We have takeout Chinese noodles.
>> And presumably he's been here a while.
>> Exactly.
>> And he might be a drunk.
>> DAMN.
>> KEEP IT GAME.
>> Here's our second reference. Uh, which is to say uh we have uh made our bladeunner illusion or homal as they say. And uh in the background this unbelievable cityscape. Uh it's uh every frame of painting and of course is Akira or Akira.
>> Akira is like obviously this is very Neotokyo. Yes.
>> Inspired. Um it was very important for us to show that we had paper and just like to show that the city looks futuristic but it doesn't look like Corissant.
>> No, they aren't domed. They aren't like Tomorrowland. It's very much in >> skyscrapers. An 80s sci-fi metropolis.
>> Y >> Oh, and the camera being down low is obviously he's down low. It's showing up. is at its lowest point of the uh >> and now is a great time to ask ourselves who are we in the >> That's exactly right.
>> Who are we? We're Pike.
>> We're Pike.
>> Pike.
>> ALL OF US ARE PIKE.
>> YEAH, we're all Pike.
>> This is a reflection.
>> And this shot >> this shot was tough.
>> Was was tough. And we wanted to make sure that it was we could still see him but still communicate that he's looking up and out.
>> Pike. We're looking at the reflection.
We are We are Pike literally in this moment.
This shot is through Pike's eyes.
>> Yes.
>> And I can't imagine how many times he's >> Oh, interesting. I always thought it was through the glass.
>> No. No. So, and and I thought so for a long time and then I called out his gauntlet's on the wrong arm >> and it's like it's not.
>> It's mirrored.
>> It's mirrored. It's mirrored.
>> So, then he's looking to make it clearer.
>> I always assume you're looking through the sparrow at him from >> No. If you see the angles >> of the of these bars because it's coming to a nose >> because it's coming down this way.
>> It's coming to the nose. So you're literally imagine you are Pike reclined and you're looking at the nose of the ship this direction as the glass comes down and you're looking up at your own reflection >> coming from outside of the glass that would be the same >> except for the gauntlets on the wrong arm.
>> Except for the gauntlet >> I'm saying the bars would would >> well but the perspective of this would be narrow. We might even see the side of the sparrow this way. Right.
>> If we're looking down cuz it's the rain's coming at us.
>> Yes. Right. I will still gush constantly every time I see this shot that the rain feels like the >> starfield but that it's getting blocked by glass and that's also again being boxed in not getting to the stars not reaching your dreams >> being limited. Tyler just saying that, you know, I believe he's just saying when a memory is a time machine, right?
>> Oh, he's about to.
>> He's about to.
>> But I am certain that Pike has had this vision, nightmare, dream, whatever you want to call it.
>> Y >> dozens of times since he's been grounded, right? We're just seeing one time that he's being haunted by >> and he's being haunted. He can't really let go. So, obviously, >> so first he sees the tentacles >> and we wanted to have be able to have a representation of Kane. We knew that Progress was going to have tentacles cuz that's just cool as shit. And all evil robots should have tentacles. Um, but >> there he is.
>> It's way scarier to have a representation of the villain or the monster where you don't see it.
>> Yes.
>> And so, and then but we then do see a silhouette.
>> But look, he's just wearing a normal hat. He's like a cowboy. And also says this is a space western something. What is it about? What is this?
>> Can't see here, but Pike is smelling uh hellfire smoke.
>> Yep. Oh, >> yeah.
>> There's a really cool like gritty western song playing.
>> Oh, yeah. 100%. Yeah. And we get a flashback to the moment where his gem cracked the first time. Yeah. And you see the red light come back. The red light of discordance and cacophony and >> and the relationship between the magenta pink and the red as a throughine that in that shot you're getting a little taste of both. And I think that that's very important.
>> And so we see a single cutaway to a full We're not looking down through the thing. We're seeing a full dream where he's been unc this is a time skip now. Y >> where he was asleep for some amount of time.
>> He's the whole night.
>> Yep. And it's too drunk.
>> No, no, it's not because we're about to SON OF A BITCH.
>> WE'RE about to see the morning. We're about to see the the the dawn, right? So in a second, but obviously Hank uh wakes him up and it's like >> Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Oh, what was going on with his eyes there? Is he Is he a replicant? Is it I was making a joke.
>> That is very replicant.
>> Oh my god, you're right.
>> Obviously, I'm making a joke. He's not replicant.
>> No, he's not. This was really important because cute dogs are marketable.
>> Yes.
>> Fucking cute Hankis. That's all I have to say.
>> And everyone's been been able to have been experienced about a being woke or many people been woken up for a dog looking in your face. Very relatable.
>> Get the fuck off me. Hand right in the face.
>> Hank is totally not disturbed by It's got to also be not the first time that he's been woken up.
>> And he's like, "Hank, what the fuck are you doing here?"
>> He knows instantly. Wait, what?
>> Yeah.
>> And then Hank is just >> And now his ship turns on. He's like, "Wait, what the fuck? How is that happen?"
>> And obviously he knows, right?
>> Yeah. No. Yeah. Yeah. He knows what it means, >> right?
>> It hits him all at once.
>> He goes out and Rhett is where Pike was the previous night.
>> Yeah.
>> And you start to see a little bit of the light from the from the dawn right in the top in the top right.
>> He says, "I took care of it for you, buddy." Throws the tool back into your hands.
>> Yeah.
>> Giving him the agency again.
>> It's time to leave. And that shot, >> it's time to leave >> is it shows where how it's dark and you can see the direction of where Doy puts color and kind of the the the darkness and the shadow is is basically where Pike is or where the viewer whatever it is and the future and the forward is this bright almost the golden gleam before it fades away.
>> Yes.
>> Right.
>> And I love that through this whole scene you see the top of Hankset.
>> Yeah. I wasn't going to say anything, but while we're on the subject, I think weaker animators would have left Hank's head out of or they would have framed him or they would have left him out of the shot entirely. And the fact that you get this little peak actually really adds to the immersion in my opinion.
It's very sharp >> and it shows now he has a home. It was really important too that both for the story and the ethos of us as a company and and my own personal stuff with Rhett is that he's just offering the hand.
Yep.
>> He's not be like, "Come on, Pike." And like grabbing and drag him like, "You need to we need to go to Vegas, bro."
Like, it's not that.
>> He just creates opportunity.
>> He's creating the opportunity for his friend.
>> Mhm.
>> And he's just going to reach the handout. And then we're going to see in a second here.
>> It's up to Pike now.
>> Yep.
>> It's it's it's his agency.
>> And he's looking at his gem.
>> He's thinking about >> he's like, "Am I strong enough?
>> Right. Can I do this?
>> Can I do this? I lost before, >> right?
>> Am is this going to be a problem?" And in that little shot, you know, I had a seen from the information before. Can I do this? Maybe I can't. Maybe I'm not good enough. Maybe I'm not strong enough.
>> Or am I going to come up with some bullshit excuse?
>> He's thinking about it.
>> Or maybe he's drunk.
>> And he's like, "Fuck it. I can do this.
>> Done." And he pulls him literally and figuratively up on the rap city.
>> Oh, you got to pause here. Yeah, there it is.
>> I want to wait for Hank to get on the >> Yeah. No, that was perfect. That was perfect. And so in a single shot, we see that Pixel is in a bean bag chair playing on her kear. We see that Ziggy has his um video game, his grid boy.
He's playing a video game and there's the little like um Sim gems above his head and but it's like, oh, is that part of it? The outfit and it's genius. Oh, he puts the game away. They bl they they blip out.
>> This is his actual design, right? You see Ko the punching bag and Oil is enjoining the Sartini. She's a drunk.
She's a drunk is actually lush.
>> And how she's a little classier than the rest of them. A little oddly. And how Hank is just adorable.
>> Yeah.
>> He's just he's like And then this shot is so good. You see the golden gleam come >> and he's seen the wonder of space, but he's also taken aback by wait a minute.
These are people that I could get behind.
>> This is a family.
>> This is a family that I have found.
>> Yep.
>> And then obviously >> and then Uh this was another shot that we knew that on this beat we wanted the raps city to do glasses and so we timed everything in the beginning of the trailer so that this shot could happen on this exact beat at the beginning of the course.
>> I think it's also worth mentioning that just to give everybody at home some idea of like the timeline cuz we've been saying like oh you know we've been working on this for two years two years two years the song basically had to be almost completed before they could start the actual layout of all the animation because they're timing it to the song.
So that's why like that's why it's so almost so important that we talk about how the midnight basically nailed it on the first shot. Yeah. And there was minor tweaks and things and adjustments and improvements and changes we made, but really the timing of it all didn't really change >> once we were if you change a song by 3 seconds, it would fuck everything up astronomically. Fortunately, we were able to work with the midnight on the song uh and get and working on the overall structure while they were doing this dev and concepting and character design and shit design, all that. And then they were polishing it as we were working on storyboards and where it kind of overlapped was where we need to get the storyboard and the sack solo to come in. So, we had to struggle like rush to get the sack solo recorded so we knew exactly what it would sound like as they were storyboarding the fight scene.
>> And we should pull back the veil a little bit. Let me let me go back and we can look at these characters while we're >> I was I was going to say that there's a important shot if you can nail it.
>> Talk about how beautiful the rap city is right there.
>> That's exactly what where I wanted you to be. Two things. One, everybody's still in character. Everyone's still looking amazing. You get a lot of details in in a few frames.
>> There's the juke box. You see the juke box?
>> This was generated and pulled and painted over from the 3D model, a very robust one that they put together for the for the rap city. And so we've all had a shared understanding of the dimensionality of the interior of the rap city when we >> so many scenes in Anthem happen in this room here.
>> And so this whole time we've been able to picture we know exactly where we are.
I go to the house there and the bar is right behind >> or it's like when I can call back down to people. That's why I know exactly what it looks like.
>> And I think co mentioned the hell hole of that's their bar. you have several times.
>> Here's the L hole and then the arcade machine, the video game arcade machine's right there and like you know they but it's also lived in. There's pizza there on the table. There's a soda can or beer can couple beer bottles.
>> There's a couple of beer bottles.
>> We can see that Pixel's literally glowing here. She's a glow blend, right?
She's happy and she's enthusiastic and so we wanted to get that glow even it's like a single frame. Um, but I think another important thing to say is that when we started this trailer, we needed to design not only every single starship in this. So Kane ship, the Rap City, all six personal ships.
>> We needed to design Oilia. Oilia hadn't been designed yet.
>> Yeah.
>> Um, we needed to design Rex. Rex hadn't been designed. We had to design Kane.
>> We had to design what the trailer versions of these characters would be.
And then we had to design them again for the visual style of the trailer that we landed on after the fact.
>> Y >> um and so there's a ton of design work to do before we even started to storyboard.
>> Yeah.
>> Um but anyway, I I love this zoom out shot.
>> Incredible.
>> I mean this shot here, uh this was basically not done until relatively recently. If you notice, this is also the space shot from Wild Blue's uh cover of the Cosmic Codeex.
>> That's right. cuz you can see the same glowing light, a lot of the same worlds, >> um, a lot of the same planets, uh, same colorways in the big opening. They basically said, "Hey, this is so fucking beautiful. We're just going to take this." And we're like, "Absolutely."
>> Uh, wanted, we see that we don't have to say, "Hey, we're bounty hunters, >> but we have a a head shot and we say wanted and that's how we show." And if you in this shot, Hank is projecting.
It's very cute.
>> Show don't tell. This is a fun fact that uh Dyen Swift shared when we were reviewing uh uh doing basically what we're doing with you all now, going through every shot and just having this conversation over and over and over. And they made an unbelievable point which blows my mind every single time I see this.
>> When you're done, >> Pike goes through the entire his entire story in 12 frames or less. Here he he's he's out of the the the light of the hologram of the wanted poster, right?
>> Look at Look at his color. Look at his color. Everyone is warm. Everybody is ignored. And guess guess what? He's going to get pushed into the light by Co when she slaps his back here. And it's a it's a small way of saying with difference the same thing over and over because what is great writing?
Repetition with difference.
>> One of the things I like here is um I know there's a little bit of perspective happening, but not not really. It shows you just how massive Co is.
>> Yes.
>> Yeah. Oh, it's often hard to see how much she is, but it's very easy to tell like like everybody's size in this in this in this shot.
She's sitting she's sitting down.
>> She might be Captain Morgan.
>> What I also love is that knee up, right?
>> Everyone else feels so comfortable and at ease like, "Oh, we this we've been doing this for who knows how long, >> but Pike is like he's closed off. He's closed off. He's a new guy at work. He's kind of like, oh, what is this like?"
>> He's also turned away from everybody.
Turned >> away. Yeah. And then and then >> so we get a character moment for everybody and Ziggy knows what's about to happen. So he's smiling.
>> Bam. And he gets turned and he gets lit by the warmth.
>> Pushed into the warmth >> and he's being brought into the group >> and we get a character moment for everybody where co is, you know, it's what I do to to Ziggy and to whatever.
It's like pushing it. Ziggy's like, "Hey, anime character. Oilia is cool and confident, not reacting." And Pixels is excited to be there and Rhett's very open and like, "Hey, I'm the leader."
And you get a character moment >> and Hanks and Hank's doing the hologram thing like he knows he does.
>> Yeah, he does.
>> And then this transition, I mean, and just paints away as he's being chased.
>> Again, little decisions like what does a um a flight deck look like? What does the console look like? How do you what do you do? You control a a starship with with joysticks or a steering wheel or or what? Little decisions like the design of the spaceship, even for an interior shot that's only a few frames here, all had and required thought work.
>> This is not shit mouse shit jaws.
>> No, this is >> I just want to confirm that >> this is a space pirate of some kind.
He's solo.
>> He's just some some space pirate of the blood fleet, maybe. And the chase is on.
>> This scene was really important because you get to first look at all their personal ships. How cool is that? And they got the color coded paper trails.
But we needed to start off the montage.
What is Pike good at?
>> What's the superpower? What is his superpower? He is a vastly better pilot than everyone else on the crew. Why would you need to hire him? Why would you need him immediately? Not a handout.
And he's It's not charity that he got.
It's not a handout. They need a great pilot. And they got a great >> And I just want to show that everyone else is just flying in a straight line.
And from the second we see the Sparrow, he flies into the shot over. He's rolling. He goes down beneath the clouds here.
>> Oh god.
>> I love my ship, by the way.
>> Barrel roll right here. Yeah.
>> Uh I'll never forget when uh we were walking through the storyboards and I remember this moment very very clearly.
Swift specifically being like this is when we start to see him have fun.
>> Yes.
>> Yeah.
>> Smiling.
>> And I'm going to try to like pause on every frame cuz just the facial expressions that we go through.
>> He's letting out a woohoo we that we see Pike have.
>> Yeah.
>> Shows that he's truly in his element.
>> YEP.
>> LOOK AT THAT'S GREAT.
>> LOOK AT THIS GUY.
>> He's having fun. This guy is living for the first time in who knows how long.
>> Yeah, >> I'm gonna cry.
>> Get the disabilizing shot from out of way where he can't. His shields are probably pointed directly behind him.
He's underneath the shot.
>> He also showed that they're not murderous.
>> He also probably couldn't even see him there.
>> Yeah% shot blind and hit him through the ether cloud.
>> He used the force, man.
>> Cuz he's just so good.
>> He's just that good.
>> And then this part I remember this is one of the first ones that was fully colored. And the first time I saw it, I gasped >> because we had seen this for months and months and months in black and white >> from storyboard to sketch to pencils to black and white to like and then this was first fully colored and we lost our minds. Also, this is the first Jaza design we ever had done.
>> We weren't sure what they were going to look like and we basically said we needed it needs to look like a shark orc. We were calling them sharks at the time.
>> Yep. And I look at the shark orc and this was the basis for which all of the um wild blue visual development >> all wild blue. This was the very this is the proto Jaza right here. And could they nailed it first try?
>> I also like that he's this horrific giant like murderous looking monster but then he's also very shy and he's got like a cheeky like a strong you got starship lasers pointed at you know six times over. SORRY.
>> YOU KNOW HOW MUCH DICE THAT IS, >> DUDE. SORRY, MATE. You know how much dice that is?
>> And then they're all shot.
>> They're all shot. They're all shot.
>> Fuck. Look at that guy. Damn, he's good.
>> And then and then uh Ziggy is doing the classic anime light up the the glasses uh look. He's like, "Oh, I like this guy."
>> Everyone's like, "Hell yeah."
>> And so he's proven himself now and he's he's earned even more respect from from the family, from the crew.
Um, >> this is just the best scene.
>> We wanted to show off uh the galactic scale at some point and we really only see it in this one shot here, but we wanted to show the Sorok dynasty versus the Cavalon.
>> Galaxy at war.
>> It is a galaxy at war. Um, we pulled in some vizdev that Wild Blue was doing for the designs of these ships.
>> Um, and you know, we put it over like a super small jungle planet here, but >> it's very moious.
>> Yes, it's very moious. very mobious code.
>> Uh this is not um Morsy, right? This is not Morzy, but we wanted to kind of show that this is a battlefront area here.
And you see the Rap City is a big old transport. Huge transport. Tiny.
>> Look how small it is.
>> Compared to these capital ships and it's under fire from fighters on both sides.
>> Yeah. And and these are like sor kind of like drones, you know, or are they piloted?
>> Here we go.
>> And so here we wanted to be like, well, they're bounty hunters. Why would they even end up in the first place? We thought this is a great place to add Dandy. She's just kind of in the side there. And so you really only did if you're pausing here. But if you care about diagetically, right? This is some sort of escort or saving >> rescue mission.
>> Rescue mission.
>> Escort mission >> um that they're on and they found Dandy.
And obviously they're waring. They have to get through some sort of war zone.
And there she is. Look at how cute she is.
>> Co is the most helpless character in this moment. And it goes to show where um I actually too but I actually this shot was storyboarded before I had co's fear >> of space travel >> right >> and but I brought in this where she cannot keep her cool in a space situation >> right >> in in the situation and then um it goes to show we want to show off everybody being able to do their thing red he's everyone's on his back help us rat but then it's Ziggy who's able to uh have the ultimate kaku Translators note, Kakaku means plan.
>> So he's at the bridge here at the helm, but then right behind him, >> this is biblically accurate. Uh, Ziggy, >> so this is this is these are all the systems that Ziggy controls, right? So he sits very near Retin. And so when I've role played and we're both at our stations and I turn around and I talk to you, this is where we are.
>> That's right.
>> And someone asked, "Wait, who's piloting the Raps City?" When he's down there, it would have been Ziggy.
>> Yes. Ziggy would have brought the ship down uh in that moment because he has his own command center there. So, obviously, he's spinning around. We see that there's both like projected screens, but also some like cool CRT, a whole variety of tech. He's got boxes.
He's got machines. This is what he spent all those notes on uh in Anthem. Yeah.
Building this setup here.
>> And we see him. He's a He's not just like a goofy nerd. Yes. He's a master at work here.
>> He is. This is his super power now. This is his superpower. This is why I started sending grandmas of the mind because they included a little uh you can't see me see my mouse in the top in on from our perspective the top right of his screen >> there's there's a uh crystal clicker game that he has up and like sort of side window that he's playing.
>> He also has a voice activating uh like hover command in the bottom left which is so fun. Yes, there's a silly >> h silly for silica >> and it's the little silly.
>> Oh my god. So silica's activated there.
>> Silica's listening and helping.
>> You see his uh version of the radical Edward uh big smiley of his of Ziggies doing this with not very uh Dennis Nedry coded, right?
>> You can see locked up.
>> Oh, I don't know if you guys said this cuz I was heads down, but it's also very um radical Edward.
>> Yes. Yes. Okay. Yes.
>> And I think this is also really important to say like, okay, it's not charity. Why do they have this goofy, short, chubby kid on >> video game?
>> Video game playing. Why would they have it? And this is why.
>> Yep.
>> Um, God, this is a cool trailer.
>> And then he takes control >> of one of these one of these drones >> and he spins around and blows them all up, >> including self-destruct.
>> Including the self-destruct. And then we and then we transition through the smoke into a shot that makes me laugh almost every time because we just saw we just saw the peak Ziggy and we're about to see his fall.
>> But it's worth also noting you can still you see Pike's gem >> and it's still broken.
>> You can see the Pike gem. It's still broken.
>> They made a point to try to show it off as often and as frequently through this trailer as possible.
>> One of my favorite notes is of where uh we wanted to have for characters that we thought there's kind of did an overall '90s animeification. It's not fully anime, but it's inspired by and we wanted to have certain characters call out specific things. If you notice that Pixel is very uh her animation style is a little bit Sailor Scout, Sailor Moon.
>> Yeah.
>> And they pitched we think Chuckles should be Akira Toriyama >> from Dragon Ball and uh Dragon Quest >> and it makes him look different in a way that it was >> There's a specific film though that that Toriyama did.
>> Yes.
>> That had kind of a clownlike character that they pulled some inspiration from.
Yeah. So, Chuckles alone is in the style of Akira Toriyama. And I thought that was pretty cool.
>> This shot is doing so many things.
Obviously, everything we've mentioned also, we are establishing very firmly there is paper in the setting.
>> Yep.
>> It's not just takeout containers that there are newspapers. We see the bounty bulletin. It has Galactic Bounty Guild.
Not just the logo, but also their branding and that fun kind of campy western flavor that they have.
>> Yeah. The font.
>> It shows the note symbol. Uh for those of you that haven't seen it, we've shown it a few times. Uh and his bounty that's pretty fucking high. This is 220 effectively 90s dollars.
>> Yeah.
>> So this is he has got a high bounty. Um >> nearly a quarter million.
>> What's he getting up to?
>> Why is he 220,000 notes?
>> Well, I mean that just by merit of who he is. Uh oh, that's a great that's a great little detail. I mean, I'm >> It was very simple. There was an original pitch which we should say you guys will be upset that we didn't go away. It was a little too It was a little too goofy. It It was The original pitch was 8008152.
>> The original boobies boobies.
>> Uh but that was too much. Is that is very simple is that um 2022 is the creation of Chuckles and when everything changed.
>> That was when our lives changed.
>> That was when our lives changed. And so we thought 2200,000 also kind of makes Chuckles feel like wait a minute, why is it such a >> That's a high >> That's a high value. Oh, absolutely.
>> I'll also point out that just again um masters of composition when we're moving so quickly through these scenes, your eye is not going to have very much time to move around in the frame. You especially up on first. And so we're reinforcing your eye is going to start in the top left and it's going to scan to the right because we're all reading left to right. And then it's going to come back down and then it's going to scan again. And so you're going to get bounty uh bulletin reinforcing our bounty hunter uh uh mission, our purpose. You're going to get Chuckles's face. You're going to get the fact that the gauntlet is there. And then you're going to get the value. It tells that story in one frame. And it all you need is a fraction of a second to understand the context of the scene.
>> Yep.
>> Because of the because of the composition >> and he did nothing.
>> He did nothing.
>> But you can see that Chuckles would think putting on a Groucho Marks outfit would be enough to fully He's wearing the same clothes.
>> He's wearing the exact same outfit.
>> Yeah. Same clothes, same hat. But the funny thing is that >> he's not all worried and you're going to find out why. And this Yeah, he So anyway, we zoom out and he's completely surrounded. We see Elm Squadron enjoying a nice uh break >> uh in the back of the diner here.
>> Milo talking to Ren eating a burger.
>> He's fin Milo finally got his big arch burger.
>> Canonically expression of disgust is so perfect. And the way that Jace is like kind of casually >> just casually just sipping on a cola.
>> Home leader, can we please have burgers and fries?
>> Thank you, leader.
>> Um, and you get even like rs like this like you're caught buddy and they're so confident they got him dead to right, >> you know, sort of like lampshading it, but then >> he's extremely powerful. He's an ele.
He's a demon. He's literally >> He's not even like moving forward through the frame. He actually just disappears.
>> Go back. Go back.
>> Yeah, go back. Cuz early on we talked about how we loved that this was one of the most anime moments. The the the surprise face.
>> The surprise. That is so funny. I laughed out loud for like the first 30 times I saw this where they're like, "What?" And then IT'S LIKE, "WAIT, GET HIM."
>> We had to throw in some goofy like anime style.
>> This next shot of uh uh is also giving Cowboy Bebop's um uh the clown. I can't remember his name ever. It's >> Pero.
where where yeah Mad Perau where he's like floaty and weird and that he his his movement even his movement is Eldrich.
>> Um this was storyboarded by JJ Conway >> who actually had this there was a longer scene that had Chuckles in it where like originally the the montage was going to be um okay you're good you're good. Uh the montage was going to be the same length, have fewer scenes, and we said we need to show off more situations, right? But the chuckle scene was longer, but the way that JJ Conway does fluid motion, I think a lot of you would recognize if you've seen a lot of the animated more recent animated TMNT movies. Yeah.
>> Or the animated Sonic the Hedgehog, I think Shadow uh what is it? Dark Team, uh Shadow >> Rouge, >> Rouge and Omega >> fight a bunch of like Eggman bots and like the animations could flew. believe that was all JJ Conway.
>> Oh, someone's saying, "Where's Ziggy's not here?"
>> Oh, ZIGGY FORGOT ZIGGY.
>> ZIGGY FORGOT.
>> OH, we got to let him know.
>> I'm fine, everybody. The whole music video.
>> Anyway, Ziggy was getting his food. He was getting a burger.
>> He was getting a delicious squid burger.
Nebulous. We got to go back. We cuz he we blinked and we blinked and missed.
>> What? What? What? I don't >> go. Hold on. It's going to show.
>> Maybe you'll show her later.
>> No. No. Oh. Oh, >> so if you blink and you miss it, you see our um hypercoder grid runner. You see a subclass piece. You see our Uzoid.
>> Yep.
>> That everyone fell in love with. You see both the hollow star and her hologram, but she's a human here. She's flesh and blood. And this character here is a pogle that just Dogan Swift invented.
>> Yeah. So there are characters in here that that we didn't give them. They just designed themselves or they had their their artist design. So some of this is us, some of this is them. and Ziggy just, you know, >> we're on a mission and Ziggy's getting lunch and >> he's so happy.
>> And it's some SORT OF WEIRD LIKE LIKE OCTOPUS.
Fuck am I eating?
>> He's amazing.
>> Strapper Juggernaut. Um, you'll see behind the bar working at the restaurant, we have the uh Botnik uh with her robot and the riveter. Both now in this setting, they're employees at this burger restaurant. And then the one and only the bird and the bear, the bitlings.
>> The bitlings.
>> Uh Dory and Swift.
>> Swift.
>> Our director and art director and the geniuses behind this trailer. Um so, uh Swift is the bird and Doy is the little bear with antlers. And they're a huge reason why bitlings are part of the setting or why we didn't cut them. Yep.
>> They were one of the reasons where we wanted to have a canonical >> y >> Digan Swift um in their true forms which are kind of like Sonic style characters >> and he's not as avera cuz look he's an antler bear. Yeah, >> he has antlers.
>> Yeah.
>> Um there's some cool like slick backhaired greel.
>> A fuzzy greble.
>> Fonzy Greble leaning against the jukebox.
>> Um in the back we can also see uh the two two of the goons >> from the shootout the the robo copo from the announcement trailer. the corpo.
>> Uh, we see Zetamax sitting next to an Isotron, I believe.
>> Yeah.
>> You see a cute little >> Yagron. Anatron.
>> Or an animatron. Sorry. You see a cute little fly like a Yagoth.
>> Um, >> so that's one or maybe a bit of a bit, but >> he a bit a bit.
>> There's an oculock there who looks like some sort of warrior. I can't even see the guy behind him.
>> Oh, and you can also see that this diner is in a tube >> that circles around in a ring.
>> Yes.
>> Oh, yeah. It curves up space station.
It's like boobies in uh in uh Space Dandy.
>> Yeah. And then this is one of my favorite shots.
>> That's mean.
>> And so Zigg's like, >> "What the fuck?"
>> And it's like, "What is Chuckles doing?"
He's like warping into a fucking hole.
He's like folding himself inside out.
>> He goes full around >> Looney Tunes pulls out a pie.
>> Ziggy Ziggy for no reason.
>> Look at the joy on Chuckle's fucking face. In a white flash, he has summoned Chames, his uh friendly llama sidekick.
>> Yes.
>> Who also defies reality and like literally look at this guy.
>> Oh, he's so determined.
>> And he just rises to sit on his back and laugh. And they're both having the most fun evading being captured.
>> They're not worried at all.
>> Yeah, they're not worried in the slightest.
>> And so now we see why the reward was so high. Chuckles is extremely hard to catch. He's very slippery.
>> And he gets away.
>> And I imagine that the bounty sort of relatively low and then it just kept going higher and higher as he kept escaping.
Um, now we're on some desert world. Maybe this is Shinsati perhaps.
>> Perhaps.
>> Uh, and we're on sand skiffs and we see the two smugglers, Labouch and Kavir.
>> Uh, and we're trying.
>> This one took a long time to animate. It was one of the scenes that was left for the end.
>> And we see how Pike shooting at at uh, Kavir, but he uses his time magic to blip out of the way and blip back in.
But then >> suddenly worm >> uh >> guys >> the they their ship gets broken and they get yeeted over to Pixel.
>> We're seeing another superpower.
>> Look at that devilish grin. Look at that that that gremlin grin >> with with Arcadia energy. Pixel ties them to the mass of their skip and they're like, "Oh, we did it." And it's like, "WAIT, >> OH NO."
>> And so, uh, Rhett is tied to the the the mast and he's shooting at this huge sandworm, the Dune Leviathan. I also love hear that red is the first to act 100% like it instantly swings around like at the ready. Yeah, 100%. But you get that, you know.
>> Yeah. And I love >> we have our zoid burging.
>> Yep. Yep. That uh he's zoid berging which is perfect.
>> And Kavir's facial expression is like both both Kavir and Labouch bring me endless joy here.
>> Um the design here was originally kind of just like a generic sandworm before we had designed it and they graciously updated the design to match our sandworm.
Um, we flash here and we're on some sort of uh maybe this is Neo effects. Who knows? It's some sort of uh cyberpunk mega unders city as we see here.
>> For me, my one of my favorite little details here is Ziggy's face. He's he's g he's gone full Toad scream from Mario Kart.
>> You can just hear him screaming into Pike and Red's ear here. Hos always called this the um uh the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles van. Oh, again we're It has a a toyetic feeling quality to it.
Uh even the wheels popping out the way that it does tells you so much >> information. And so clearly they've established some kind of plan here, right? And that this is in the middle of their plan trying to take this guy in.
Um, our thought was that this is was some small little scrawny guy and that when this fight started, the chemicals basically beefed him up bean style and now he's like running and galloping like >> knocking over the venom.
>> Fun fact, the only thing keeping Ailia uh stuck to the top of the van is the weight of her massive dump truck ass.
>> That's exactly right.
>> That's true.
>> We needed to emphasize her superpower and so we wanted to have a little scene to show what everyone did before the end. And so he wanted to show that Ailia was a sniper and that co had a bike.
>> Uh we also see here that there is an upper crust of some kind here, right? So there's an upper city.
>> We're getting some Final Fantasy 7 Midgar.
>> Uh we've all been adventuring and bounty hunting uh wearing normal shoes. Aphilia does it in heels. Yep. You know, >> she's like zero suit Samus. You know what I mean? Where she just does it in style. And so we see this wonderful shot in this p perspective where she zeros in and fires a >> on a moving vehicle.
>> On a moving vehicle, some some sort of stun shot >> hits him right in the jaw. Point >> and breaks his canisters. I love I love that it hit it. There's an impact and then the pop.
>> Yep.
>> And then the final part of the plan comes in. You can see a little Easter egg. This is actually the Chem Revolution.
>> Top left. Top left. You can see the the the the deep uh uh purple spray uh graffiti on the on the top left.
>> Um and so there's obviously Kech activity. This guy may be a member of the Chem Revolution.
>> Here comes Akira, too.
>> For all we know, and then Co comes around the corner, perfectly timed.
>> There's a brief >> finish the job.
>> Look at that shot.
>> There's that brief flash of black there that tell You don't notice it if you're watching it, but it tells you the impact was really, really hard.
>> Damn. every frame of painting, folks.
>> And just shows how intense she is, how she's having fun, and she's that she's also lightning themed. It has her, it has her club, it has the lightning, and >> what a gorgeous Akira slide.
>> And I mean, >> Ailia is still up there on the truck >> and they've stopped cuz they don't get too far away. They have to get the guy, you know, >> and so they're going to go grab >> that is so keen. Damn. And look at the background.
>> They pan up from the city >> and transition to a crowd >> in a club and continue to pan up. We wanted to show obviously that Pixel was a pop star and could bring in a crowd and with her crew disguised as the band behind her.
>> Uh have we discussed what everyone's playing here?
>> No.
>> No, we have not.
>> That you notice that she's glowing cuz she's a glow blind >> and she has the kear and vocals. Uh on the left there is Oilia on lead guitar.
We have Ziggy on the keys. Uh Pike is on the saxophone. Rhett's on the bass. And of course Co's on the drums. Uh, and so they're all playing and presumably they can play all those instruments or at least pretend >> at least or pixels making it look making it look like they are. Uh, there's an illusion going on and this it's not actually a costume as we see in a second. We see her kind of pixely Arcadia magic.
>> Her magic being pixelized in this way is going to be my head cannon.
>> We see the the heart. She's casting some kind of charm spell.
>> Yep.
>> Spins around, >> turns pink, >> and the the holograms disappear and reveal.
>> I love Ziggy.
Let's smash Ziggy Hulk hands.
>> Um, so good.
>> They leap up ready to action.
>> This is my favorite. The fact >> that they got the Starlight Lounge crew in here.
>> Uh, we just Neimatan. He's not supposed to be DJ Crazy cool or any specific Neimatan, but we thought it would be fun to have a Neimatan here. Um, the Starlight crew made sense in this scene.
Uh, this guy gets smashed in the face.
He was char wasn't able to defend himself.
just everybody's just loving every second of this.
>> Well, fans have have have noticed that the the the hearts are left behind for them.
>> And I just >> I just think that's one.
>> Yeah, the hearts left behind. It's above Frost and Bl.
>> I admit that Blurby and Frost look freaking >> they look fucking perfect. And I love that he's doing the anime like hands up, >> right? He's on hold. He's hoveranding.
He's like and she's like, "Oh no."
>> Which is too bad cuz if that boot moved out of the way, you'd see how lucky he was. The scrunchie.
>> I was going to say he's got the scrunch.
He's got the scrunchy. He's got the scrunch.
>> He has the He has the scrunchie. He has the scrunchie.
>> Yeah.
>> I imagine they go home that night and Torx's like, "What the fuck happened?
Who was that guy?
>> I can hear Grio. I can hear him.
>> And he's loving it." And then >> Oh, he's cheering.
>> He's got guitar on him, too.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. And so this is my favorite Easter egg in the whole show. Obviously, there's this amazing photo that Ziggy took. It's a selfie. YOU CAN'T SEE IT NOW. RED'S LIKE, "AH, I'M NOT READY."
PIKE'S LIKE, "OH GOD, he just looked it up." Oilia is trying to look like doing her best.
>> Yeah, she looks perfect.
>> Co is so hyped. And Ziggy obviously is the one taking the selfie. Uh, and this is what they submitted to the guild. Uh, >> and Hank is there. So, there's a bunch of background characters that are in Silhouette that we just gave them free reign to illustrate and design. So, all the like all the black silhouetted characters in the background, that's all them. Um, so don't ask us what they're for. Then you'll see second place.
Is it is it going to come back in frame here for a second?
>> It does, but not as I say, but not much.
>> There. There we go.
>> So, we wanted to have an homage to Tim and Tyler of the Midnight >> as isotrons cuz it fit.
>> Isotron just fits fit them so well. Uh, and so that >> that's the Midnight in our G in our univer.
>> They're made of pure synth wave, baby.
>> Yeah. They're they're made of pure hard light and pure nostalgia.
>> Pure hard light. Uh, what is it? Some of the effrovescence. Yeah, >> collective. They're made of collective effervescence. So that's Tim and Tyler of the Midnight uh as isrons.
>> Right. We see the bounty board again.
More uh GBG branding uh and their wonderful Western Sunset Cigarette Machine uh branding, which I just adore.
Yes.
>> Um but we see you can see the language uh there.
>> So this is where we started our language, our alien language to the left of the bounty board. Oh, we're probably going to get there, but I asked this the other day, and I actually keep forgetting to look for it. Originally, we were going to uh give the homage to Dyen Swift with the Wanted posters on the outside of the um saloon, and then they ended up inside the diner instead.
Do we know what the wanted post? We'll see cuz I never went to look.
>> I honestly don't know. Yesterday, we didn't have an answer. So, we'll have to keep an eye out for that cuz it's coming right up. It's coming right up.
>> Um and you know, once again, this goes to show that we're also inspired by space westerns, right? There's a there's a skull on the on the side. There's weapons hung up. There's decorations like an old timey saloon.
>> And then we see everybody cheers in >> glass glass. Uh >> yeah, pine glasses.
>> And so everybody has a beverage including Pixel and Ziggy.
>> That sure looks like an almost healed gem.
>> It's that gem.
>> I've got another favorite moment coming up here.
>> Me too.
>> And they're celebrating. And man, we crammed in a lot of references.
>> There's the shadow daddy.
>> Obviously there's Zyler.
>> Zyler on the left. Zyler on the left.
>> He is Zyler.
>> Oh, he has black painted nails.
Yep.
>> The uh we the bounty that they were here for and that they caught very recently was Rex Maxim on the floor there. He's tied up an old timey western rope.
>> We finally got him. Uh in the back there at the table we have the Yongu, the Claudaran, and the uh Zorbra species characters. Obviously changed a little bit to kind of make them fit a little more.
>> Yeah. But they've obviously they're celebrating in the CD in the CD saloon.
And then on the right hand side here, we see Quibbly looking at it, staring at a spoon.
>> Yeah, he's working >> with Glo Bondo.
>> Look how terrifying Glove looks. Go back. Go back. Go back. Go back.
>> Fucking horrifying.
>> Look how horrifying he is in that show.
>> Yeah, we missed my favorite moment. No, we didn't. No, we didn't.
>> And then you got the cow skull on the top. Once again, actually, you don't know this. You can't see this, but there is actually um the bartender is the species pacu piece.
>> Yeah, we we had her put in, but then she got covered. He got covered by Zyler and cuz he had you know >> worth and and once again you see red he's like oh no I've been captured.
>> I also love the thing above Zyler in the behind him where it's like that is a very like Star Wars feeling like it's some sort of something that's just futuristic and fantasy and beautiful.
>> And once again Co is just a monster.
>> Yeah you see how big Co is she is huge.
>> Um >> and then here's my one of my favorite parts. As we start to zoom in, you just see Ziggy yapping.
>> I'm talking about some bullshit.
>> I'm talking about some bullshit.
>> His pike is like fully integrated. He's standing up and he's leaning in.
>> Oh, yeah. He's like right now he's thinking, I guess things are all okay. I guess things are going to be okay.
>> Nothing could possibly go wrong now.
>> Uh we've never talked about this, but I my head cannon is that the center of that bar can be turned into a hot pot.
We see how there's that like like that opening for like a burner or something like that.
>> CHEESE POT.
>> OH, IT'S THE CHEESE POT.
>> That's the cheese pot.
>> Uh, and his gem is we see it healing here.
>> It actually% done, >> but it's it's mostly >> It's so close. It's so close.
>> Uhoh.
>> Magenta gem turns into the magenta sun.
>> I mean, wahoo. Yippi.
>> Who could this be? Oh, Malai has a great point that we didn't call out. Oilia's eyes are on Pike the entire time.
>> Yes. Oh my god. I actually I noticed that obviously obviously I know my own trailer.
>> Hold on. Hold on.
>> Uh you got the double sun from no property at all. Uh this is the first time there's ever been I guess triple sun.
>> That selfie is so funny.
>> So if we look here and when it zooms in, she's like so focused on Pike >> and and I'll I'll make another observation about Ailia here in about two two shots.
>> You can tell Ailia is not listening to Ziggy yapping at all.
And then there's some really great shots with Ailia later too that are sort of similar in theme.
>> Three sons. Three sons. That's too >> hot.
>> I Damn.
>> I fought for this shot.
>> Yep.
>> Originally, we we didn't It didn't work.
We couldn't find a way to get it in. I'm like, we need we need a shot.
>> The entire framing of this whole sequence was so we could get this shot in.
>> Yes. I >> all the logistics of the shot of the this whole sequence is so we could get this one shot.
>> I demanded not demanded that's a little extreme but I really I pushed and I pushed and I pushed I wanted Kane in front of a son >> like the man in black coming in from out of town.
>> Y >> he's walked similar to the Cad Bean shot. It's a classic western trope.
>> He's on a horse. IT'S LIKE WHERE THE FUCK THIS GUY COME FROM, RIGHT? And it's that classic >> straight out of your fucking nightmare.
There's three sons. He's >> three answer.
>> Uh, the man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Um, and so here obviously the exterior of the saloon is just stunning.
>> They've got two My favorite is if you notice there's a speeder bike shaped like a horse cuz we're on Western.
>> And then we actually designed the speeder next to it. Uh, thinking that maybe that's Rex's speeder.
>> Yep. Maybe that's what he came in on or what he ran with and and his >> Yeah. So that is designed to be Rex's speeder. Whether or not it's it's diagetically his is another >> we must have gotten rid of the wanted posters.
>> This shot is also giving >> That was a long time ago.
>> It was a long Well, and I think that we were going to have more wanted posters somewhere and they just didn't make it in.
>> Yeah.
>> So we wanted married to him. It's just something I remember from early on that like you know >> this is one of the first things anime that we saw of the little uh gopher. the little gopher like Yeehaw Gopheron and there's >> the neon light the neon light animated light of the gopher >> and we established that our cards have the same suits you would expect. We have whiskey bottles >> like it this is a >> and you notice it's kind of a rundown saloon cuz some of the panels are open >> and you can see >> see the the the machinery within.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Everything needs to feel lived in. Uh I love the background uh buildings to the left and right also are giving Star Wars very much.
>> Yeah. And I love that he has palace. Why does he have spurs? Cuz it's cool as hell.
>> Dope as fuck.
>> And so we see Oilia has goooo eyes.
>> Yeah.
>> And all of a sudden his arm starts hurting and she's so concerned. Look how concerned Oilia is.
>> Well, he's having a heart attack.
>> Yeah. This the big one.
>> Flash of red. Flash of red at the top.
>> The white lining.
>> It's so good.
>> White ink. The white ink coloring is so important. do during these little flashes of his memory. And I believe this comes in when Tyler says, "When a memory," right?
>> Yes. And again, and again, uh the core is pink, the exterior is red. The core is pink, the exterior is red. The color is so important.
>> Like this is for a frame, but look at how beautifully animated these tentacles are.
>> Well, cuz it's not just metallic. It also looks demonic as fuck. It's that flesh organic.
>> Also, the white lining remains showing in the past, right?
>> It's coming back and it's the present.
And he opened the door and the magenta sunlight hits him.
>> And then in a horrific realization, >> how did you find me?
>> And then one of the greatest shots ever ever invented. It's like this almost dreamscape.
>> It's almost You're from Pike's perspective and the world is slowed down.
>> Oh yeah. It's like bullet time.
>> The light from the eyes is so horrifying.
>> Can it be?
>> Now that's a bad guy.
>> Can it possibly be Can >> as Deborah Annew Wall would say, now that's a bad guy.
>> And so go back. Go back and watch the finale of Stardust Raps City Anthem season one and when Mace describes the silhouette and in the glass we see Kane and you didn't know what WE WERE IMAGINING.
>> ALL OF US WERE THINKING, "OH MY GOD." SO WATCH our reactions to that because that was all in our heads. And then of course Rex still >> look at poor Rex in the background.
>> He's like this. I'm telling you.
YEAH.
>> There might even be a little recognition in that those eyes. But I also want to point out Aphilia's hand is on Mike's back.
>> And she's look, he's looking at at at Kane.
>> Everyone's looking at Kane.
>> She's looking at Pike >> and Pike is like this is a moment of realization where he almost can't believe it.
>> How did you find me?
>> And he's like, "Oh my fuck." It's so well animated.
>> And then this is when he says, "It's time to leave."
>> And it's time to leave.
>> I love uh Ziggy's glasses through the entire thing. his um the lenses express his emotions. The exclamation points here just do me in. It's so good.
>> And this is the only time in the trailer where we there a word is animated. Run.
The word run in Pike's mouth is animated to be screaming run. Well, great point.
>> Also, the fact that we still don't see Kane. Kane's getting ready to fire.
>> Yep.
>> His hand's not even on the weapon.
>> He's not on the other weapon. He's getting ready and then blacks out.
>> Jesus.
>> And the moment where it goes black, I'm imagining is that's when he goes for his gun.
>> Oh yeah. Yeah.
>> The absolute then there's Rex's ass.
>> The absolute desperation in Pike being like this can't happen again.
>> Like I have to warn these people to run.
>> Well, cuz I almost always think of the in the very first moment when he tosses in the wrench and he catches it and he turns away.
>> It's almost like to me I had always thought like it's almost a moment of like >> do I want to put Rhett in danger? Do I think something's coming? And then he's like no this has kind of got to be behind me. I'm going to give it another chance. And this to me has always been the full circling moment where he's truly he looks back at Kane and he's like, "No fucking way. What have I done?
I can't believe I've done this to everyone that I've that like I did this.
I brought him here." And it's this moment of like terrible panic.
>> And a little subplot here is Rex is so lucky he's finally caught and that's when Kane shows up. That is so lucky.
But my additional head can cannon.
They're following a great distance. My head cannon is that Rex falls into a a mattress making factory and >> like a trampoline as he falls like there's a piece of glass that perfor >> and he watches them all run off and he's like out front.
>> No, he he looks at his meter. He walks across the street to the bar that's open.
>> That's my head cannon of what happens if we had a if we had canonically he gets away like that's wanted to show that he's lucky.
>> He's not dying. He's not dying here.
>> And this is the first time we see the Speely is like a pro. She's like gliding through the air.
>> Uh you can see their personal ships down there. So they're not parked that far.
>> Yes. In the bottom uh left I never bottom left. Yeah. They're not that far.
>> So fast.
>> Yeah.
>> And then we see this is where you first see that Pike uh his fighting style is uh he has finger guns.
>> And so he's shooting blasts and this is the best part. AND HE'S NOT THERE.
>> HE'S NOT THERE.
>> HE'S NOT THERE. HE'S not there.
>> It's fine. It's fine. It's fine.
>> This is just It all happened. There's so much going on after like three frames.
>> Yeah.
>> And then bam, bam, bam.
>> And we see like the gold but magenta >> and the fact that he's there, but it's still >> silhouette in the smoke with the eyes.
>> And is that Pike's imagination?
>> Right.
>> And what% it is >> cuz he's already at the door ready to meet him. You know, he knows where he's going. If you look at the image before the eyes go away, >> it looks like those are the red glowing eyes of Kane, but they're just equally chance of them just being fire embers.
>> So, it's not actually his glowing red eyes.
>> And so, he's just so >> And he's like, "Oh my gosh." Okay, here we go.
>> We got Power Condor, Widow's Whale, and >> Lady for posters behind the chair.
>> I don't think I revealed this, but basically, Widow's Whale is the band that uh we saw in Makoro where we met.
What's his name? Power Condor is Grio and uh Mim's band. Yep.
>> And then Lady Carell for Mel. Yeah.
Yeah. Exactly. For Morell and Lady Forlororn is the band that co-roteed for.
>> Uh and so that was the uh there's a whole there's a whole thing there. But >> there's a horns there, but also there's a little howdy bunny sticker.
>> Yep. There's a little Howdy Bunny on the controls.
>> You got to have a skull. You got to have a skull. There's the caution >> and throwing the horns. Uh, so anyway, >> just like a badass and just jumps up >> and then but is P is Kane running? Is he chasing after them? No. And it just >> he's inevitable.
>> Yep.
>> He's not jumping out the window to follow them. He's going back out the front door.
>> He's inevitable >> and he's walking.
>> This shot >> he's extremely patient.
>> And this is very deliberately. It shows that the march of progress marches on.
>> Y >> and it continues and they can run all they want but the march >> it's very much whatever you're doing right now is irrelevant because I will get to you >> only matter of time like a big inspiration for Kane and it's just that calmness right >> where he's not freaking out HE'S LIKE I'M COMING RIGHT it's he's just >> I am inevitable I will get there it nothing matters.
>> Um fun little note here that Pixel's uh joystick looks like a microphone.
>> Yes. Uh the uh >> she got the arcade buttons.
>> The she has the arcade buttons. This the uh the pads and the knobs is very it's like those sound pads and the sound and like the sound control things.
>> It's like soundboards.
>> Um and some fun cabling over there.
>> Oh, and we just see, you know, that everyone's very capable and then just he's just moving forward and he's black and black and red.
>> And then here >> or is that a collectible like Doom guy?
>> Some important collectible to him. you know, all these different shows that he cares about.
>> I believe that this is a little icon be kind of like Sonic or something like Swift. So, this is Swifty's icon.
>> Um or maybe it was Metal Swift when she dressed as when her avatar dressed as Metal Swift from from Halloween.
>> Um >> that's a Mecca, I think, on or no, it's it's some sort of anime character. He likes anime and figures and stuff.
>> Battle Angels. Battle Angels 2.
>> Hell yeah.
>> Hell yeah.
>> And it's very video game controller. Uh and then they >> The lens flare there is so good. They're taking off. And what I love about this shot is that you see right now on his display there's a little waypoint and it's called it his home and that's the Rap City. So it doesn't say Rap City, it says that's his home waypoint cuz the Rap City is his home.
>> In this shot, the two ships that are closest to Pike ship as they're running is Rhett and Oilius.
>> Yep.
>> And watch his screen as he gets closer to this cloud.
Oh my god. We're getting We're getting two two on the on the radar. Oh, three four.
>> Oh. Oh my god. It's starting to light up.
>> Oh my god.
>> Oh no. Yeah.
>> And you can see the rap city in the background behind the squadron. Uh the swarm I should say.
>> And yeah, and it goes to show that Kane is now not messing with Pike.
>> What Pike was worried Pike was worried about when he had that moment >> has come true.
>> Oh my god. Kane is now in between me and my home. Yep. which is also metaphorical of like, oh, wait a minute. I can't ignore and run from my demons forever to get what I want.
>> You have to face your demons.
>> I need to face my demons.
>> That's exactly right.
>> Face your demons. Uh, not available anymore, but maybe it will be at some point uh on the vantage shop. But >> so to get to the rap city, they need to fight.
>> They need to fight.
>> And so we have this beautiful It's short for this beautiful shot. I'm going to go frame by frame.
>> And these are all drones. Um there's no there's no one in that there in those pilots. Those are all are drones that he's commanding.
>> There's code ship back there. He's like, "Oh, fuck.
bigger than I even thought.
>> Evasive maneuvers.
>> And we just see that he's he's very skilled and adapted at maneuvering >> the wing uh joint and the whole thing being able to >> Oh my god. So that you can get that. It it makes me like there's something visceral about it.
>> No, I want to scream it. It feels so tactile.
>> Yes.
>> Here we go.
>> That that background shot.
>> Look at the fucking >> That background shot though. That background shot though.
>> Look at the surface. And see these We're on a space western planet. So these are massive meases that even like pierce the clouds.
>> Also known as butes.
>> Oh, butes. Yeah, you're right.
>> Oh, Ailia does a cool spin.
>> We got the ether barge in the back there shooting forward.
>> She blast star there. There's Ziggy back there.
>> We're doing our best. We're doing our best.
>> This is This is dangerous as fuck.
>> And we're doing okay.
>> I mean, LOOK AT THIS.
>> We're doing okay.
>> Imagine six ships flying into a hundred drones. And everybody needs to acknowledge uh or at least observe that uh you can see that pink beam that's going up and the and the yellow on the other side. That's the ring around the planet.
>> Yes. And um that they're in a space debris. There's a ton of space debris there.
>> And that's where they parked the Ravsy maybe to to lay low a little bit.
>> Yeah. 100%.
>> But it didn't work obviously.
>> Oh there's a wreck. There's a big Hulk there. Oh wait, there's only two drones on me.
>> Uh he's probably fine.
>> He's probably fine.
And then absolutely nightmare.
>> Look at how horrific.
>> Nightmare tal or slash.
>> Yeah. Gosh, is that a flash?
>> Is that a flash of pink in the background? What what's going on with this color?
>> And nice to the light table and and Swift designed all these ships.
>> Um, we originally were trying to like how do we show that he teleports and then we kind of had all this back and forth. We realized we don't need to show him teleport. the movie monster or the movie villain never explains how he gets there, right? He just shows up but canonically he teleported.
>> Basically, he war the world's beams up to his ship.
>> He war the world's teleport.
>> How did the T-Rex get in the rec center?
>> Exactly. Right.
>> He teleports >> and we see the fear.
>> Look at this shit.
>> Oh, this is this is such a good shot.
>> I want to go back. Go back.
>> Yeah. Him looking over his shoulder.
>> Um, obviously we see this total hell ship. It doesn't work. This is obviously a a cacophony ship uh of progress. We see he still has the fear. He's still running >> and >> basic maneuvers >> like what are the there's some some sort of magical hell controls at this thing.
>> He's not he's not maneuvering. It's like he's one with the ship and momentum momentum is not pushing him around.
Everybody else is being shoved left and right and up and down by the the forces of having to move in these ships. He's calm still. He's calm as fuck and and he he has no fear of hunt.
>> It's the wolf and the rabbit.
>> Yeah, exactly. The wolf the wolf does not fear the hunt, you know.
>> And then we see this shot. These tentacles go forward.
>> This is actually one of my most favorite parts. The first time I saw this, I screamed.
>> And I'll I'll tell you when it happens.
>> And so we see just how good Pike is to be able to to to dodge this. And we'll see. He does all this.
>> He's standing against him. He's standing against him like in the ships. He's going towards her ass. He's trying to get home >> cuz he's still running.
>> And then it's right fucking here and then I fucking screams.
>> And then he pulls the fucking stun mechanically.
>> The fucking brakes and basically falls back and just is like, I'm getting by this guy.
>> This is the first time where we're like, "Holy shit, I didn't expect that."
>> Yeah. So, look at Kane's face. Suddenly, he's No, he's not smiling anymore.
He wiped the smile off of his face. He just barely dodges.
>> And he's angry.
>> Yeah.
>> He's like, "Wait a minute.
>> Fine, I'll try."
>> Yeah. He's like, "Wait a minute."
>> And then it was so important that Pike basically win this fight.
>> Yep. He had to win the engagement. He had to win the engagement for this >> cuz we won a superpower.
>> Yep. But >> it's always an ace up his sleeve, man.
>> A few times.
>> There's a detail here that I absolutely love uh right when it gets back in the cockpit. So he he breaks. Yep.
>> This is for a frame and it's just so good.
>> And and the the cracks the cracking of the glass in the background.
>> It's so that's my favorite one of my favorite.
>> He's like, "Oh shit." And then he does the thrusters to create this bola spin >> to the rapsid. So he f he he gets there.
>> He gets there.
>> And it also creates the uh interweaving the the tornado that they're connected and the pink light is going back and forth. Every move that Pike makes is desperate. Pure desperation >> cuz he's like, I have to do something.
>> And one of my favorite shots is coming up here.
>> Oh, this I mean this crash on the rap city.
>> This next 10 seconds is unbelievable.
>> Look at how visceral and just it's a violence, >> dude. The sparrow's wrecked.
>> Violence.
>> The sparrow's all wrecked.
>> That's going to cause >> where we started and but it doesn't stop. He doesn't wait. The the ship is STILL MOVING.
>> IT'S STILL MOVING. YEAH, IT'S STILL crashing and he gives no fucks. He kicks that shit out and he just stands up and fucking >> a slow rise. It's also a slow rise.
>> Stand ready for my arrival.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Stand ready for my arrival.
>> And this is the first time you get the sense of where obviously he's a metal skeleton.
>> But he acts like a man. This is the first time of wait a minute. He starts to look like a monster, >> right? Cuz he he never like gets fully erect or he never like stands up all the time.
>> Yeah. I mean I'm fully erect.
>> I mean honestly. And then finally he's like, >> "Yep, >> I have no choice. Time to lock the fuck in."
>> Basically, basically, I'm afraid.
>> Yeah, >> I have no choice.
>> It's such a great expression because he still looks afraid. Yep.
>> But he's determined to like move through >> and he locks in. Bravery is not the absence of fear.
>> He ejects and we see one of the greatest shots >> a little bit forward.
>> Oh, you say what you said. You You said this when we weren't on on air.
>> This This engagement is the duel for Pike Soul. It's our fates.
>> It's our duel of fates.
>> And do you see that there's this diagonal swooshing that separates and there's the magenta and the red which have similarities.
>> I've been saying pink and and and magenta inter >> but but you can see that one represents the other.
>> Yeah.
>> And I mean just this is a this is a pain >> and the sparrow still flies.
This is also the moment when uh uh Mace says roll for initiative.
>> 100% the crash.
>> This is where I say roll for initiative.
And that's that's the frame.
>> The star the starship battle ends and I say roll for initiative.
>> And the fact and so there's no light in this eye cuz he's closing his eye and he's aiming his eye and he's aiming >> and you SEE >> I haven't SEEN THAT STILL.
>> YOU'RE NOT SURVIVING. You're not surv.
There's no way >> that is >> this is out of control.
>> This shot here.
>> This is out of control. Everybody, everybody in chat is saying like, "I'm getting a 101 play.
>> This needs to be a wallpaper. This needs to be." Every single frame of this music video could be a playmat.
>> How beautiful is this shot?
>> It's perfect.
>> It's unbelievable. It >> It's perfect.
>> I I I want to cry. How good.
>> I said for a long time that him looking down the barrel when he fires it moving, you see his eye for a split second was one of my favorite.
>> And it's mirrored.
>> And it's mirrored.
>> And there's that gem, though. His gem's cracked, though.
>> His gem's cracked.
>> Gem's cracked.
>> Bang.
>> He takes his shot.
>> Bang.
>> Boom.
graces him, >> clips him. It's a glancing blow, right?
>> He glides off the gauntlet.
>> Off the gauntlet.
>> Yep.
>> God.
>> He's a god hand. He's the god hand.
>> Guys, I'm about to scream my shirt.
>> And then he does the fire kick.
>> Go back to the very first frame of this shot. Go back to the very first frame of this shot because I want to make another point about how unbelievable and essential it was that the color theory that went into this uh uh into this animation was the way that it was. Okay, we get we get this. We get this.
>> Look at the contrast. his full blue, not a uh with the exception of the blast that's happening, not a black color in sight. The there everything is soaked in neon from fucking top left to bottom right. And this is another painting. I would put this up in front of uh on my wall as a person.
>> And what I love about Kane's energy, it's it's not just >> it's not just red. It's not bright red.
It's not red lasers. There's that black core >> that absorbs light and and it's the it's it is the absence of light, right?
>> They were very intentional with their use of every color.
>> You'll see this all the way through, especially when he transforms >> and it's hitting the gym.
>> And it cracks more. I saw that crack.
>> Look at that blue.
>> It cracked at the center.
>> Look at that blue.
>> And he does a spinning kick to show that he's also a skilled martial artist.
>> I'm really about for now. Look, he now is finally on the back foot. He dodges, but now finally Pike is pushing back.
>> Oh shit, Pike is actually fighting back.
>> And for those of you who haven't done this frame by frame, >> this is about to go.
>> This is going to go so hard, but but I love the movement that they gave Kane.
He's he's not the graceful uh uh monklike uh uh disciple that uh that Pike is. He who's who's who's doing incredible work, but it's graceful and it's powerful. Kane Kane is like not stumbling around but he's moving with this lumbering quality that >> it's a different technique is a different technique and it really creates a strong contrast >> and then >> and he's just firing blast dodges it >> goes for the slash coming in >> blocked >> blocks with his ARM >> that dodges that and also look think about If anyone that wasn't a disciple of God hand of they have a whole chest how fast he is how anyone else is dead.
>> Anybody else is dead and oh around my back I don't give a shit. I don't even need to look.
>> Yeah, >> that's a mean thing that Kane just tried to do to you. Killed a lot of people with that.
>> He never just dodges. He always attacks back.
>> His His back is turned now. And so Pike has an opening >> and he hits him.
>> Damn.
>> Yeah, he gets him >> and he's disarmed now.
>> The hat goes flying. ass off.
>> He's losing more and more of his main silhouette.
>> Yep.
>> Oh, you really got me.
>> PSYCH.
Buckle up, motherfucker.
>> Just how unstoppable progress is. And Kane, >> it's like lol. Lol. JK.
>> It goops forward and he's like, >> he's almost smiling here. There's a >> now this is a fight.
>> This is like I'm having fun. The game on >> But wait, the reinforcements have arrived. Reinforcements. This is D and D.
>> We had to show a classic. It's a D and D fight. We literally called this the D and D fight section.
>> Yep.
>> Because it's like, oh, we're all on foot and we're all fighting the the big bad guy and the beautiful vapor trails of the various ships.
>> Uh, and they all jump in. Hold on. I'm going to go through this frame by frame.
So good.
>> Bro, >> here they come. Oral drop. Co with a with a club ready to go.
>> Yeah.
>> Mid swing.
>> Next time in this guitar and >> look at like operative >> and just she's pissed. She's pissed. And then look at this.
>> She's like, "Don't touch my man."
>> He's lunging forward from that same shot. But now look, he's got tentacles out.
>> Tentacles are out.
>> And look at this shit.
>> Grabs him, dodges, but then look, he misses with his arm and then the tentacle gets him around the neck.
>> Yep. And so now Pike's in trouble, but his friends are here.
>> Look at that butt.
>> Butt.
>> And then she hits a power cord on her kear.
>> Look at it glow.
>> And then >> special shout out to doing all this in heels.
>> So Pike was the first person to hit Kane.
>> Pike was the first person to hit Kane.
And it's only appropriate that Co absolutely demolishes him with a baseball bat right to the face.
>> And he's getting desperate now. And then she gets a great fucking shot on him when here comes Ziggy.
>> Ziggy the whole hand. And there's going to be three Ziggies in this shot. This is Ziggy number one.
>> Ailia over the top. Oilia dropping a bomb.
>> You're Ziggy number two.
>> One v one me. One v one me on the deck.
>> And off screen pixel is buffing and Rhett is healing is kind of how I have been.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Another shot >> here. You can see me throw him >> throw styler and color in there. Oh man.
>> And he's like, "Oh no, this isn't even my >> That is horrifying."
>> That's Patrick Stannard, everybody.
>> Give it up to Patrick Stannard.
>> He's had enough.
>> He's had enough.
>> He's had enough. He's like, "Fuck this."
>> This was fun while it lasted. He's activating his ultimate form. He's unleashing his true progress demon power.
>> Y >> um >> and look at all the drones.
>> There are the drones in the sky. And we're going to pan to the right >> and you're going to see his crash ship, too. We're going to go through this.
There. Oh, >> there there's a drone.
>> There's a drone.
>> There's a drone. There's a drone.
>> And they're fire. They're firing. Oh, no. He's drawing in. He's drawing in energy.
>> It's very important to note the last piece, though.
>> And look, >> and then there's a ship.
>> The ship.
>> It comes in, it slips onto the head, >> and it forms his face.
>> Forms his face.
>> And we wanted to have a Tetsuo moment where these giant >> metal tentacles explode.
>> Um, and he turns into this just unspeakable. He's no longer a man.
>> He's no longer a man. You have your D and D monster fight. We had have a D and D monster fight and you still see some of the drones added to his form.
>> And the other thing that's happening here is during that entire shot, not only is he drawing in power and you're getting just all the the the everything is getting more and more saturated with red. But you can see on the perimeter of that shot that everything beyond is getting desaturated. Color is literally getting pulled out of the space that they're in.
>> Just reds and blacks.
And all of a sudden, oh fuck.
>> Yep.
>> We're screwed.
>> We're screwed. And >> they all take big hits.
>> Looks like she's trying to dodge, but she can't, you know. And then Pike gets hit.
>> The shattering of the shatter.
>> He was so close. And look Kane's face.
>> Kane's face is right there.
>> He's right there in the gem.
>> There goes all hope. And he had been chewing so hard.
>> This is where this is where the pink magenta throughine color hits hardest.
>> The background.
>> Yep. And this kind of also represents in a certain way where like you can be on your healing journey and you're getting so far, so far, so far, and then you have a massive backslide, a relapse, a relapse, a regression, and it's >> he's right back to where he was.
>> Right back to where it was. Maybe it's even worse. Maybe even worse. What was it all for?
>> And then we see it's all his cane. It's It's red. It's black. It's progress.
>> The gem shard shatter mirror shards are flying upwards.
>> Yep. Oh my god. And we already see >> um and we see his friends in the shards and he's entering this. Is he dead?
>> Some sort of dreamlike statement, >> but we know that disciples >> and is fading to black.
>> Disciples have a special >> connection to their soul in a way that others don't.
>> And so are we in are we seeing inside Pike's soul right now? Possibly.
>> And he himself is in a shard.
>> He's been shattered. He's just one shard.
>> And he sees his friends here.
>> Yep. sees his friends here >> and he looks up >> and he's see how how weak and helpless.
He's small. This is the smallest we've seen him. He was hunched working on a ship, but now we see fully curled up.
>> Only his friends. Only his friends in the shard over Rhett and Rhett was the his old friend, but these are the new friends he might lose, right? And Rhett, too.
>> And so when I was working on the uh like we had to went back and forth on what the Dark Knight of the Soul moment would look like.
>> But then it was the Eureka when we're like, "Wait a minute.
when he sees his friends, it's going to be on the billboard from the beginning.
It's going to look like a billboard and it's going to basically we're going to pull that all from the very beginning.
The first thing that we see, we're pulling that back all the way at the middle or towards the end of the video during this dark knight of the soul moment and he's literally back where we started, >> right?
>> And so this billboard is he's reaching out.
Yep. and and he thinks his friends are going to save him, right?
>> And then there it is. The billboard's done and the missing piece is him, >> right? He's >> his friends are there.
>> This this effect, by the way, they were at a movie.
>> Yep.
>> Uh at some sort of film festival.
>> They went to an animation festival.
>> Yes. and they saw the projector. Uh they were sitting in the back >> and hopefully we can have Doug and Swift on to talk about this, but basically they saw the projector and there's some sort of name for this of all of the air particles in the air flying through the projector and all the color. It makes this beautiful thing and that's just where they literally took the effect and put it into saw that and was like that's going in the trailer. This was another thing that they showed us like a rough version of super early on and like before we saw any color and we saw this kind of like rough version of this and we were all like, "Oh my god."
>> Like it's it's ethereal >> and he's reaching out and he can't get there.
>> He can't get there.
>> Can't get there. But then wait a minute.
>> Oh, a hand. Is that Rhett?
>> Rhett's gonna save him. Is it Oilia?
>> Who's Who's grabbing him?
>> Who's Who's grabbing him?
>> And he's shocked.
>> He's shocked. He can't believe it.
>> And then this turns >> And then this fucking >> Here's the ethos, everybody.
>> That this is the the fucking thesis and the ethos of this entire campaign.
>> Uh it wasn't his friends.
>> It was him. He was the one >> choked up.
>> It's hard not to.
>> I'm like, damn.
>> It's hard not to, man.
>> His friends are still important. They're there. His friends souls are still here with him. They're supporting him, >> but they aren't They're not even touching him. No, they're not touching him. The person that had the contact >> was yourself and >> and you have to pull yourself out of the darkness. You have to pull yourself up.
No one's coming to save you. You surround yourself with all these people who give you light. Bring light to your life. Bring color to your life. It's the end of Frozen 2.
>> It's one of my favorite Disney songs of all time. Show yourself. You are the one you've been waiting for.
>> Every time I hear that song, I cry. Me too. Me too.
>> That song is insane.
>> Um I quoted when we decided this moment.
I quoted that song many times. It was a big inspiration. But we we wanted it to evoke that still have his friends present and then also add >> the coloration, their color coding, this neon soul that everyone has.
>> Mhm.
>> Um and he's a piece in this sort of rainbow.
>> And so we kind of I I fought very hard.
We fought very hard to keep this.
>> Yes.
>> And because it was originally going to be Rhett that just grabbed him.
>> Yes.
>> And we're like I'm like, "Hey, >> that's not how it works, >> right?" And so like it was very very very important that he's not being saved by anyone that he is making the choice.
He has the agency. He is saving himself >> and that he's supported by his friends.
>> We're going to see in a second here.
>> They're all they still reach for him.
>> Yeah. They're like, "Hey, come on. Let's go." But he's the one that's doing the pulling and and he's falling towards his friends here.
And the gem, which is the the the projector.
>> Yeah. it which is a shard.
>> Actually was the gem.
>> Was actually the gem. The last piece falls into place.
>> There it is.
>> The gem that >> is fully machines.
>> First time I saw this, I literally jumped out of my seat in my office.
>> Hos loved when we would watch this taking screenshots of me reacting to it and just sending me these goofy ass faces that I was making.
>> And we see the Kane's still there.
>> Kane's still there.
>> But he has achieved his selfactualization. You now suddenly realize he was this demon of unfathomable. It was just color. But now he's made out of wire and metal. And if if it he has materiality, he can be killed.
>> Wasn't Wasn't everything in red moments ago? What what what is this orange and purple and green back and blue?
>> My man.
>> Yeah, he is my boy.
>> That's one of the greatest shots.
>> The most handsome man in the galaxy.
>> Every everyone else is surprised >> or shocked and Rhett just smiles.
>> I'm going to cry. Stop. Brett >> Brett saw it at the beginning of the trailer.
>> Now, Dad, >> he he >> Well, it's the same It's the same smile that he had when Pike showed off his superpower, right? It's that that confident I believe in my brother. He >> He knew he knew he could do it.
>> He knew he could do it. And so, he couldn't be prouder. And then bang, the fucking moment.
>> And then he has his figurative and liter literal >> rebirth.
>> Phoenix rebirth here.
Um, and then >> this fucking shot.
>> He's done fucked up now. This fucking shot.
>> Now he's calm.
>> He's calm.
>> Now he's entirely CMY.
>> Yep.
>> As it's the burn phase.
>> Yeah.
>> Pixel hero.
>> Pixel Hero.
>> Pixel pop hero. So everyone's in power.
Pixel buffs everyone. They're all about these amazing things that aren't normal.
>> They're not normal. They can't do this every day cuz this is a >> Yeah, we're going all out. We were originally going to show them the whole time having this yellow glow and it just looked awkward. So, basically the implication though is a second. Two things about this shot. I love the pixelized uh buffs that come in here.
You're going to see them hit all of the characters and then when we switch over to Ziggy's shot in a moment, you're going to see his the buff is still uh calming down.
>> Look at it.
>> As everyone is bathed in the golden yellow light of her magic and there So, okay, he's being buffed. She can do this crazy ass fucking spell. Look at this shit. He restrains. So Kane has how many different weapons, right? He has his claws.
>> He has his tentacles. He has the mouth beam. Yep.
>> And he has his drones.
>> Yep.
>> We're going to go through this now, right?
>> Yep.
>> He's stuck.
>> Yeah, HIS ARMS.
>> HOLD. HOLD MONSTER, BITCH.
>> They're stuck.
>> Yeah.
>> Hacking. Hacking. They're hacking. This >> guy reports.
Wall hacks. Wall hacks.
>> His arms are stuck. Out come the tentacles.
>> Yep.
>> I don't need my fucking arms, bitch.
Oh, the the beam. Sorry. The beam comes next. I'm just going to shoot you in the face, bro.
>> Oh my god.
Pitch black.
>> It's pitch black with the red ring. Just like his gunshots. Just like his gunshots.
>> And Rhett has summoned the ether barge. And you may wonder, how did the ether barge even get here?
>> Yep.
>> This is one of my favorite scene. This is one of my favorite shots. I never noticed this.
>> How did this happen? Right. Because on top of the ship, >> yeah, you see Rhett is actually not in the cockpit if you haven't noticed it yet. He's right on top.
>> Look at this fucking shot. And he charges up. Look at this guy.
>> There he is.
>> Who's piling the ship?
>> Who's piloting the ship, everybody?
>> Who's piling the ship?
>> It's Hank. Hank is Wank.
Hanks Hank.
>> So Hank was on the Rap City diagetically. Hank was on the Rap City.
>> Uh and >> and then he he then gets picked when the ship goes over.
>> Yeah. He gets picked up >> canonically. All of their ships have an have an autopilot when Hank's in a certain range that he can basically get them back.
>> He can control them. So Hank, he's a very advanced AI.
>> Yeah.
>> And Hank does it.
>> I mentioned this yesterday, but this is another one of my favorite parts.
>> And this beam that's not just red, it's black, it's it's there's darkness >> and he stops, but he can stop.
>> Pike's like, "Oh shit, I can stop. I can >> turn dodge and then kachchow."
And I love that you can see Pike in there.
>> Yeah, you can see the little tiny gem there. bends it and look at this is like sheet metal being >> look at how it's melting into cutting through everything.
>> Yeah.
>> But but shot bends it >> it fades away >> and it protects the rapsidity.
>> Yes, it protects the rapsity.
>> And then he's he's going to dodge around and then out come out come the tentacles.
>> Tentacles. Okay. Tentacles. He has nightmares about this.
>> Oh god. The tentacles. Boom.
>> Boom.
>> Boom.
>> Boom.
>> Boom.
>> MULTI ATTACK WITH MULTIATTACK. THAT'S CUZ THAT'S CUZ SHE CAST THE BLOODLESS >> AND SHE has god bullets.
>> What was that? Oh my god. It was Oilia Kosik's hot girlfriend >> on her own ship on her.
>> Yeah.
>> Look at how the gun is glowing like >> she's got she is locked in too.
>> And okay, he's getting to the face. He's rising up. He's rising up beam. What does he do?
>> I'm getting inside this bitch.
>> Yep. Slash. And he's as he's rising up >> no matter what this horrible monster transformation, it's still just a dude.
>> He's still him. He's still him. And this is very important. He had to be You always have to have the human element when there's the big monster.
Unless the story is the big monster, that's fine.
>> Oh. Uh and also you'll note notice here that um the chains are no longer necessary. Uh Ziggy drops concentration.
I like I like to think uh that right now he's realized that he only has seconds to buy tickets to uh or some like some game has popped up on his screen LIKE OH WELL HOLD ON JUST >> OH I NEED MORE GRANDMA I NEED MORE GRANDMA I NEED MORE GRANDMA OH NO YOU GOT THIS YOU GOT THIS >> I think in this moment right when he rips Kane out of we pass the saves he he can't control this thing anymore right like Kane is exposed >> there's nothing to hold on the monster's been defeated basically at this point >> SO HIS HIS LAST DISH EFFORT IS TO CALL IN HIS drones a couple more drones There's a couple more drones that haven't been consumed.
>> They're flying it. Just this animation, folks.
>> Look at this fluid, baby.
>> They're coming in, but she's there >> and just >> this is such a cool >> down a lightning storm to just blow every single one. And this shot here, >> I mean, look how helpless the monster looks now. It looks like a fucking shrimp, right?
>> You know, when it was so scary before, but now Pike is over it. All of the protect the final protection is blowing up cuz co >> Yeah, I agree. I agree with chat. Ziggy realized he forgot to back Neon Odyssey.
>> OH, EXACTLY RIGHT. YEAH, >> I HAVE TO GO NEON.
>> OH MY GOD, GUYS. FREE DICE.
>> HE WAS IN THE FINAL HOUR.
>> All the defenses are down. The drones are gone. Pike has his >> opening, so he takes it.
>> And even still, Kane still has some sort of energy demonic protection.
>> You But he's he's almost trapped by his own >> piercing. He's pushing against it.
>> He's pushing against it. And >> the black like lightning almost crackling energy.
>> He's fighting it. He's fighting it.
There's all of this thing of where he has to break through.
>> Y >> and and then >> and then Pike hits him with the Monado >> in his final moment.
>> In his final moment, he feels fear.
>> And look at this. And so my extremely important thing about this when you're writing, when you're doing narrative for a character like this, especially, it's never good enough that the character, the bad guy dies.
>> Yep.
>> That the villain dies. The villain, what truly is is cathartic and satisfying is the villain knows that they were wrong.
They have the realization, the understanding, I fucked up. I was wrong.
I'm afraid. I am weak. whatever it is, they need to have the the cathartic realization in the instant before death.
And we wanted to make sure we pulled that through when it came.
>> Yep. And we see obviously the reflection of the phoenix, >> the reflection of the soul >> and then we had this thumbnail from the story boards. One of the very first things.
>> Yeah. Look how tiny the rap city looks >> and we see the raps city, right? We see the the debris field. It is so tiny. and to show the scale of this Phoenix explosion.
>> Yeah.
>> The the the his Phoenix soul was inside of him and he's basically burning it and using it to to end Kane.
>> Yeah.
>> He himself his own soul. He's killing his demon in this moment.
>> Yep.
>> With his own soul.
>> Damn.
>> And his own power.
>> Kill your demons. Kill them dead.
>> What a beautiful.
>> I love the I love the down expression.
>> In your mirror, in your bed of the in your heart, in your head.
>> Just so good.
>> Don't you look good in It's like explosion. Is it a real phoenix? No.
Like it's not a literal phoenix, right?
But like >> it's a manifestation of his disciple soul.
>> And it's there, right? This almost Aurora, his his disciple soul blessed by Allora the Lightbringer.
>> And all all those blues that you saw, it's a little bit of the blues of Agathos, too. Um coming in here. Uh >> and so he can't fly anymore. He can't fly anymore.
>> Love that shot. I love that.
>> He just killed his demon. He's weak, but his friends are there.
>> The hands coming out is so good. His friends are there to catch him.
>> They let him go. They let him fall. Even Hank's there.
>> Hank's there, too.
>> And they all get a big hug. He pulls him in. They have a big group hug.
>> Ziggy's eyes again.
>> They won.
>> They look up >> and Hank can't keep his paw on him because that's very puglike to do. Trust >> because he trust it's one paw. It's one paw cuz he trusts and and loves and loves Pike. This shot was one of the first times we saw the name of the ship written on the side of the ship. Uh, and that became canon.
>> Yep. Yep.
>> Uh, >> that was that was nice. The light table that did that. That was do I swift.
>> And then we go up and we see >> we see >> the manifestation of his soul that he's unleashed to to kill an extremely powerful discordant being of of of progress.
>> His piece of the grand cosmic melody.
>> You mean we don't get a bounty for this?
>> And they're all basking in the glory.
this kind of magenta light, this pink light that's over them.
>> And it's the first time we see Ziggy with that where he's like he's almost tearing up or he he's in awe and it's the little line.
>> He's got a little Yeah, >> I like the line. It's it's it's simultaneously sort of like the cheek of his face pushing his eyes up in in admiration or it's a tear. I I like to think it's tears.
>> We can see that a little bit of a solidification of Pike and Oilia's relationship here.
>> Yeah. Um, and Co's like, "I bet my abs look really great in THIS LIGHT."
>> SHE'S LIKE, "NICE, SICK, >> SICK, SICK.
>> The lighting in here."
>> Nice. Someone take a picture right now.
You got such a good pump going on.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh, and so once again, it's important where we see, wait a minute, this is the this once again, we bring back again.
>> So, WE'RE BACK WHERE PIKE STARTED.
There's the billboard and you're in you're in the box.
>> You're in a box. You're in the box.
>> You're in a box. There is a literal frame around this is a prison. the prison that Pike was in before and the the billboard and it's wait a minute you can go on the stores pay for this cruise company but yet wait a minute hold on they're blasting past it big break he's made it from his prison he's made it out of his box he's made it away it's no longer a dream it's no longer an unachievable thing it's no longer whistful yearning it's the reality that Pike himself has decided on found and earned after the at the end of his journey >> and his hands are on his hips >> it no longer goes Chess is facing towards the camera.
>> They're all very bright and lit and neon towards what everyone else is.
>> And this is canonical that Ziggy and Co are playing Thoroughare Combatant 2.
>> And this is the I finally figured out how to get around.
>> Oh, go back. You got to go back. You got to go back.
>> I finally figured out expressions are so important.
>> So Ziggy finally figures out so spam Sonic Boom for Lieutenant Wilds. And so he finally realizes how to get away from the spam and she gets out of the stun lock and then jumps >> jumps over the sonic boom.
>> Jump over the sonic boom >> that that's Lieutenant Wilds. You can see on the screen here >> him right in the face.
>> Hits him right in THE FACE.
>> I FINALLY FIGURED OH FUCK. I CAN'T GET THE WIN.
>> I CAN'T GET THE WIN.
>> IT DOESN'T COUNT. IT DOESN'T COUNT. IT GOT PAUSED. IT GOT PAUSED. YEAH. YEAH.
YEAH. But it never You're never Well, you're never locked in again once you pause and you're never locked in again.
There's the Gex, the cartridge, the cartridge, the pizza, lasagna pizza, maybe. Who knows?
>> Y >> uh >> and then he >> and he offers it to Rhett. Hey, let's go on this bounty.
>> And Red right now is just so satisfied and content with the family that he's brought together. He's taking it in in a way. And then we're going to see here.
He's like, "Well, all right, Pike.
>> There it is." Y >> Pike is now part of the crew. Now it's Pike saying, "Let's fucking do it again.
>> Let's get to work."
>> Yep.
>> And then they There he is fully self-actualized.
>> We see the >> And then the sheen of the heel gem.
>> And then it cuts.
>> They go off to the next bounty.
>> There they are.
>> And they're flying out >> off on the next one.
>> It's brilliant. I know we basically didn't answer a single question for this whole stream, but that was like a perfect use of time. It was like a perfect That was perfect.
>> What a fun thing to do. I've been waiting to do this forever. Someone said, >> uh, in less than six minutes, >> they told more of a story and a better story than many animes do with a whole season.
>> Yeah.
>> Mhm.
>> And I that was only a five and a half minute music video.
And look at how much story and that's the power of animation.
>> Yeah, >> that's the power of animation >> and the power of good storytelling. The power of the storytelling >> um is >> structure >> a story >> music >> the power of song is the power the combination of music animation narrative world building ethos that sort of thing and um I just I think this is the greatest thing we've ever done >> by a wide margin 100%.
Um, I just want to shout out our director, art director and line producer respectively. India Swift, Michael Doy, and Patrick Stannard. Incredible talents.
>> Incredible.
>> India was had such a hand in the story and really played the role of the director well. And Michael being such a master of composition and color. Um, we were trying to figure out what should go in the credit scene and it's like, well, they're all blasting off for a bounty and Hank would just be behind. So, what's he doing? He's playing some video games. He's He's a PC gamer.
>> He's playing video games.
>> What a Chad.
>> He's got his little pad.
>> Absolute ch.
>> And he's so happy about it.
>> And so fucking cute in here. And so it's going through the credits. I want to make sure that we're we give people like some uh some accolades here.
>> Uh little sheen they have there.
>> The main the main storyboard artist, uh Kevin Molina Ortiz, JJ Conway, and India Swift. I believe all three of them are responsible for all of the storyboarding for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, presumably Sonic the Hedgehog 4, not sure.
>> Uh, all of the modern Sonic the Hedgehog animations I believe are the three of them as well. Um, I could be wrong, but I believe all three of them work on it.
It might, you know, I think that JJ uh I think and a lot of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle stuff I believe >> at least some combination. So like the modern TMNT and Sonic, >> I didn't know that. They're very I believe >> and the reason why the fights are so visceral and unique and well choreographed is because they're so >> pros at action.
>> They're pros at Yeah.
>> Swifty is um amazing at the emotional stuff.
>> Yes. She's responsible for the entire Shadow and Maria uh uh sequence in Shadow in Sonic uh three, which is the best part of the movie by a wide margin.
And I could could immed uh Kevin and uh JJ are just like the the gods of action.
>> Uh we have the color script by Michael and that's sort of what Derrick was mentioning earlier tonight where it's just this beautiful >> color script of from shot to shot to shot everything where >> he knew what the color was going to be before the shots were even animated.
Right. And it was so that it was thematic and unique and we were telling a story a million different times not just with the lines but with the color itself. It's so important. Uh the vizdev by Sarin L and India. Um >> and a really cool thing about Sarin >> Yes.
>> is that basically because of the incredible work that Sarin designed the ships of everyone.
>> Yes, >> I believe I worked on some of the >> worked on some of the ships. But basically like uh it was really kind of Sarin's like uh drove forward in a lot of the ship design. And when we were trying to get ships design across the board, we're like, "This isn't really working." Yeah, we're trying. And we said, and if you can kind of see in the uh the trailer, the announcement trailer, the ship design isn't really kind of what we land on a lot of stuff.
And we're like, "We need Sarin."
>> And so they hired, Wildl hired Sarin, and now Sarin does most of the ship design.
>> A bunch of people had a hand in designing Kane, but Sarin had the the heaviest hand. Y >> um India designed Rex, uh Canon Rex, >> the Rex that you know is is India. Uh, and all three of them had heavy design, heavyhanded designing all the ships, uh, that are now canon. So, amazing work, a wonderful character design by Eric and David. Uh, getting those character model sheets. Yep. Landed on that like '9s anime vibe that fits so perfectly with this style.
>> It'd be great if we had an art book to show off his beautiful character sheets.
>> I think an art book is a great idea. We have Gabrielle and Marius for additional prop and vehicle design.
our wonderful background painters, Amber, Luke, Michael, Pedro, Sam, Sean, and Stephen. Uh, I mean, all of those background shots, just these beautiful paintings. Um, we really wanted to kind of had that oil painted background vibe with the lined >> anime art uh in the foreground.
Uh, then original character design. Uh, Dr. Cav with the Rap City crew minus Oilia.
>> Yep.
>> Um, Wild Blue Studios did a bunch of the background characters. Ona did the crew of uh Starlight, Starlight and Walt, not Waltz. Uh >> Starlight and Guppin uh >> and Guppin.
>> Guppin and Quibbly.
>> Quibbly. And then Shashimi or she did the Walts characters.
>> Also illustrating our oracle deck. Also did I think all of our pins that we saw.
>> All of our pins. Correct. All of our enamel pins.
>> Um on the shop >> on the shop >> on the shop. Wild Blues artist uh did the design of uh >> um tons of animators FX animators. So, the animators, India, Nick, Miguel, Jeff, Hardock, Liam, Olay, uh, Patrick, Mkori, and Ryan. Uh, the FX animators, Notimbar, Roxan, Thomas, Patrick, Malcolm, Miguel, Torage, Jen, Salvador, and Ryan. Uh, >> massive team.
>> Yeah, massive team. Supervising cleanup artists was Beth. All the cleanup animators was Saresa, Dra, Denise, Ellish, Alina, L, Jerry, India, Jay, Olivia, Miguel, Patrick, William. You can see a bunch of the same names across different categories, >> different things.
>> Huge cross functional team.
>> But what's amazing is think about look how many people we're naming off here and the length of time it took to pull off >> five and a half minutes.
>> Yeah.
>> Yep.
>> Just insane.
>> Um Empty Cell Studio did the Thoroughare cap scene.
>> Empty Cell Studio.
>> Uh the compositing artist was was Michael Doy >> on his own on his low.
>> We were like he's like I can do this but like my machine just all of these shots to composite takes so long so much rendering power like we'll buy you a new machine. bought him a new computer.
>> So, we bought him a second computer.
>> Second computer so he could go back and forth.
>> Yeah.
>> And composite them >> cuz you can't do anything else while it's >> Yes. Exactly.
>> Yeah. So, we bought him a second computer just so he could go back and forth >> and composite everything.
>> I remember that conversation.
>> The ink and paint was Matt. Uh was Schne.
>> Uh I think Shene was around in Twitch chat at some point. A bunch of the other folks are either in Twitch chat now or they were in Twitch chat last night. So, thank you for tuning in and watching. Um um I've seen some folks starting to share shots they worked on.
>> Check Blue Sky and Twitter. I'm trying to retweet. If you are an artist, please tag Legends of Avantress on Blue Sky or Twitter because I will not be able to see it otherwise.
>> There's Let's go. Let's go.
>> Obviously, the music was was such an important part of this song by The Midnight. Uh written by both Tyler and Tim. Produced, mixed, and mastered by the great Tim Mchuan. Lyrics and vocals by Tyler. And then saxophone was Jacob Scesznney. Uh a great saxophone player.
>> Jacob did an amazing job. He came in clutch because their band was on tour.
>> So uh uh uh Clunk.
>> Justin Clunk.
>> Justin Clunk was not available, but Jacob came in and killed them.
>> He's the one he improvded both solos, the uh the the fight solo and the heroic outro solo.
>> Uh he threw in those saxophone trills that a few people have called out.
>> Hell yeah.
>> And then Characters in Story by Legends of the Vantress. I think you all know who those Yeah, you know those people.
>> That's all of us.
>> This has been so much fun. I'm so glad we did this.
>> This is amazing.
>> Seriously, this is something I've wanted to do not only with like live, but with just us. We haven't done that ourselves.
>> I I truly think that that video was is the greatest thing I've done with my life. Uh and it's not even >> Oh, I say this a lot, but I actually truly think it applies this time. That is going to be very hard to top if if we if we I don't even know if we can ever.
>> I don't know if we can.
>> We will do other very cool things in our lives. I don't know if we'll ever top that. My biggest problem. No, >> that's amazing.
>> My biggest problem now is whenever the Kane boss fight comes up, that's what that's what I got to stand up against, you know? It's like, oh, >> well, it'll be different. The content will be different. It won't be on the rap.
>> Oh, thank God.
>> That's not spoilers.
>> Yeah, you need >> I'm going to recreate that. Exactly. And everyone's got to be just as hyped as they are now.
>> Um, >> I need Richie to say after the combat, this is the greatest combat I've ever had in my entire life. This two full years. It took two full years. Damn it.
almost to the day from almost to the day from when I emailed uh Doan Swift. It was like a a year and 3 days from when you punched it.
>> Two years Sorry. Two years and three days from when I punched the first email to us finishing the trailer in the early morning.
>> Yeah, >> it was done like two hours before we launched.
>> Two hours before we launched. Yep. Is when we finished it. Um >> and >> it's been a joy to work on with such such talented people. And I think the whole point is is like that's why I say that like I say Andy does play Pike, but Pike is everybody.
>> He's the everybody. Pike is everybody.
You're Pike.
>> Everybody's Pike.
>> You're Pike. Actually, literally every literally all of us.
>> That is actually a great thing to call out is that everyone is Pike.
