How Much Chemical Do Farmers Actually Spray?Added:
Morning, Ty.
A little bit wet out here yet, isn't it?
That was a good stretch there, Yan.
Yana. Jana, that's what we call you in the morning when you yawn.
What do you think, Larry? Is it going to go to spray?
>> I think it looks a little bit muddy out there yet.
Ornidge.
Well, we didn't really have any measurable rain overnight since I talked to you last, but we had more sprinkles. It's enough that it's kind of wet. There is even a puddle, a single puddle. To be honest, I don't think it's worth having to drive out to the field and look to see how muddy they are. But since I walked past the one right at the end of the house driveway there, I'll jump in the ranger and I'll check anyway.
Oh, you need a little help, Dig. Here.
Oh, there you go.
You want to come with?
>> Yeah. You want to join the dogs? Come on. Let me grab you with one hand. There we go.
Change her plans for the cat. He said, "No way. I'm out of here." Not doing that.
There goes a pheasant. Where's he going?
Dig. See him out there? See him? You don't see him? Oh, there's another one.
There she goes.
There he goes. Where'd Who go? That's a Top Gun reference. The original original Top Gun for the kids.
That's actually not nearly as wet as I was expecting.
What would Val Kilmer say? I think he would say, "Get your stuff ready to go.
Get your cam on the trailer. Clean the nozzle that's causing an issue. Get things ready. Maybe by the time you do that, you'll be able to dry on this without it sticking to the tires, which would be awesome because we have uh 500 and some acres that we want to get sprayed. And there is an 80 to 90% chance of rain at 7:00 tonight. And you want to get the stuff sprayed before it rains because rain is what activates the pre-emerge to keep the broadleaf weeds from coming up uh through the through the soil, through the surface of the soil. So getting it sprayed today and having it rain tonight would be perfect.
That's fresh. Might have to get Isa out here with me later. See if we can put a trap in there.
>> Morning.
>> Morning.
>> It says maximum load on the tires at 35 lbs. Set at 36. So I think that should be good. Huh. There's no point in going any more than that.
>> Nope.
That'll work. Do you want me to hook that up?
>> Yeah. You want to?
>> Just the two products today. That's all we're putting on for pre-emerged corn is just the two products. Um, just helps to suppress the weeds for a lot longer. So, we have more time before we have to get back and spray those acres again. We've got one nozzle body that is uh giving us problems. So, we're going to use a kit here and take that off, take it apart and clean it up. But, it's been 2 years since dad's done that. And it's been 3 to four years since a technician walked me through how to do it. I've never I've never actually done it, >> isn't it?
>> I thought you said it was this one.
the inside of the outside boom.
>> Thought you said it was the outside of the inside.
>> No.
Where?
>> That doesn't seem >> Yesterday when you told me which one it was, you walked over and first sent this one and then you went, "No, wait. No, it's on the other folded up."
>> Yeah.
>> Do we want to spray and shut it off?
>> That's the only way to guarantee which one it is.
>> Feels fine. Feels fine. We found the issue. So, there's a I don't know if you call it a plunger or whatever you'd call this. It's controlled by a magnet, a valve body magnet that goes around this.
And there's a spring and a little piston inside here that look just like that. Go up and down inside here. But this one, it's springy until you push it all the way down and then I can't get it back together. Now, this little guy does springy things unless you push it down like that. Then it's stuck. The good ones that work correctly don't get stuck like that. So, all we had to do is put a new one of these in one of those valve bodies and we should be good to go. And I'm going to file this one away right there.
I don't know where your buddy is. D.
There she is. All right. Now she's going to have to let Dig out or Anna out. No, Anna, you go around. You circle. Now you get in, Dig. Go ahead. You need help?
>> My side.
>> Get in there. Get in there. You got it.
There you go.
>> It's a lot drier than it was when I went and looked an hour ago. But >> just turn around. But when you go through spot like that, it's not going to be like this.
We've got stuff at home here to spray and we've got 200 acres that's 5 mi south to spray. It's real close to the fields being fine. So, we're going to load this up here. He's going to run it down here. By the time he gets going on the fields down there, it's going to be 45 minutes from now.
It's going to be fine. We're going to get that done. We're going to have to drive down there anyway, so why not do it now while we're still kind of waiting for the fields to dry up.
That's how many gallons are in the sprayer right now. We will fill it to 1,000. So, we've got 1,000 gallons of total product in the sprayer. We've got 19 gallons of one product and 16 of the other. So 35 gall out of the full thousand are actual chemical product and at 10 gall per acre which is the rate we're applying that will go over 100 acres. So 30 what whatever I said 30 some gallons of product over that 100 acres.
Well, I'll see you in a little while, Anna.
That'll do it. I think that took about 90 seconds with only two products in there. It goes so fast. The amount of time saved by running a trailer like this, especially when you're even just 5 miles from home, is unbelievable.
Well, we're just going to kind of keep doing that back and forth for three more tanks today and then we'll be caught up.
So, there's not a whole lot to see. I don't know. I'm going to I'm going to do some odds and ends while I wait for him to get back.
Appreciate you guys watching. Thank you.
